My question is a similar one.

I would like new oven mitts, and this is the lowest that Amazon has ever offered them, but I may hold off a bit longer.

I literally just paid $17.48 on an order I placed yesterday.

Is it too late to cancel your other order? If it hasn't shipped, you may be able to do so.

GeorgyG 01-03-2013 08:43 AM

Did some research and looks good, overstock clomes close at $18. Thumbs up OP!

Yes. Typically generic silicon mitts (that tend to be shorter) go around $10-15 at Target/Kohls/etc. Getting two for $11 is a very good deal if you need two and don't mind a little red in your kitchen. The price in the past month has been between $15-20 and has never been this low.

If you're not baking often at high degrees (ie 450 and above) or you don't like the feel of silicone there's other options that tend to be found cheaper. But as always YMMV.

Mogully 01-03-2013 08:45 AM

Yes. Outer shell is all silicone. Inner is cloth.

Thank you for a good deal post and for staying here to answer questions and post informative, unbiased replies. Although I did not purchase these mitts, I appreciate your help.

Do a chat with Amazon and ask if they can refund the difference. They did the same for me the other day, supposedly as an exception.

e-powersellers 01-03-2013 09:11 AM

Price is good, however we sold our at the yard sale. My wife could not use them and I did not like them. They are too big / floppy and hard to use. Seems like a great idea, but the function was not great. You cannot easily pick up items with it. Regardless it does work for avoiding heat and burns. Totally your choice. I am not TC this, as they work, but not for everyone. My-2.5-cents.

arucyone 01-03-2013 09:14 AM

I'm sold. Thank you!

seedster 01-03-2013 09:14 AM

I've had these exact ones for a month and they are the shiznit. The cloth lining inside is VERY soft and comfortable

geminimagk 01-03-2013 09:14 AM

Nice deal. I needed a new pair and I hate the cloth ones that get dirty so fast.

gr8ramses 01-03-2013 09:16 AM

amh1967 01-03-2013 09:20 AM

i bought cheap ones without lining that do not work and, based on reviews, these appear to do well.

Usually if you get on chat they will give you a "one time exception" and either refund the difference or give Amazon credit for the difference. If they won't you can order now and return the higher priced ones. I've done it many times and get a partial refund >90% of the time.;)
In for a set...front page!!!!

myuu 01-03-2013 09:42 AM

+tu and rep, got a set for my parents at twice the price, would love to get one for myself to use with my castiron. The largest appeal of these is that I can just wash the outside of them in the sink instead of having a kitchen load in my washer.

In my opinion, not worth the money. I bought similar ones at Wal-Mart for a $1.00 - I think they are going for $3 now. They are only good for keeping the counter from scorching when putting something hot on.

The mitts on this thread are more than worth it, though. Especially for those of us who work with cast iron cookware.

buzhaker 01-03-2013 10:12 AM

Amazon sucks! They cancelled my account and banned me for shopping as a thank you for placing hundreds of orders over the years. Now I can't even login into my account. I did not abuse any of their policies. I spent over $10,000 over the years and apparently that's how they treat you for being a good, loyal customer.

Amazon will refund you the price difference if the price of the item has changed within seven days of the delivery of the order, including the tax applied. Contact them and let them know. I recently got credited for the Apple TV price drop. I don't believe it is a one time thing either as someone mentioned as that was not in the email reply they sent me.

If it makes you feel any better I can add that they can also be used as silicone iPhone 5 cases. Removes the risk of injury if your phone catches on fire in your hand. Reduces access to some (all) phone functionality but as a bonus no one can FaceTime you when the phone is in this case...

But apparantly people looking for oven mitts after weeks of cooking holiday dinners is a big enough group to be noticed. :)

I think this is for electronics only. I tried this for a couple of things I bought during December.

The.Dude 01-03-2013 10:19 AM

Thanks, just received 2% Amazon Credit from a December TV purchase, so these were free for me. TU!

I'd buy these if I didn't have a bunch of welding gloves that work great.

Also, I know of another use and being from Alaska I thought this was hilarious. My wife was visiting relatives down south in an area where it hardly ever snows. She was driving through this neighborhood and saw a half dozen kids wearing oven mitts as gloves for playing in the snow.

This beats me seeing 'inner city' folks wearing plastic chemistry googles for science class on the ski slopes in Wisconsin.
Thnx OP.
Been getting burned recently bc our small oven handlers don't cover the wrist area.

i think he's speaking about the pot holders. i use those pretty inexpensive ikea circular corkboard guys as potholders. i don't see a need for silicone, either. you could honestly just use a thick magazine or book as a potholder, too (e.g. my wife's old wedding magazines).

Not the mitts, the pot holders question I was replying to. The mitts are totally worth this price. Specially for 2.

coginy 01-03-2013 11:43 AM

Thanks

butaneko 01-03-2013 11:44 AM

In for a pair! I only have potholders so if I ever use the oven I inevitably burn my hands. Thanks OP

Ask Amazon to adjust the price if you want, they will do without any question asked.

Thank you for this advice. I emailed them and they said exactly what you did. Because it was within 7 days of delivery of the order, they would refund me the difference. Thanks, everyone for your advice!

Does anybody else touch yourself with these gloves on while watching food channel network or is it just me?

HunkaBurninLove 01-03-2013 05:16 PM

I like the fact that they are lined on the inside, but can't justify myself in buying a pair.

New Year's resolution is to reduce the number of "wants".

bigperm0107 01-03-2013 06:29 PM

If you cook anything that drips or ever use those cheap throwaway foil pans this'll be a huge upgrade. I burned myself badly when taking something out of the oven that had liquid in the bottom of the pan. The pan ripped and dripped onto my cloth mitt removing all of the insulating property as it soaked through. I learned this as I went to push the oven rack back in.

And yes, I know you were going for a dirty joke, but silicone is always better when liquids are involved.
