Beware buying from 1saleaday

If you know your HD TV to support 1080p (not 1080i), for best picture change Roku video output to 1080p in the settings, otherwise leave it be 720p. Most channels do the HD in 720p but a few (Netflix) go to 1080p.

I ordered from 1saleaday on December 23rd for the other deal (2 ROKU XS). It was shipped on December 26th, and I received it on January 03, 2013. I would do business with them again based on this order.

1saleaday took three weeks to ship my order. They refused to cancel the order, and gave me no shipping information until the shipment was already delivered. The customer support is non-existant. I'll never buy from them again.

-For what its worth, I've ordered from them many times and have never had an issue. I ordered a product on Amazon last week and today UPS delivered it. Amazons tracking info was incorrect and when I contacted Amazon they said my order had not shipped yet. Just like when you go out to dinner, sometimes the food & service is great, sometimes the food sucks or the service sucks and sometimes both.

Thanks! Best price so far I have seen.

Just ordered one. My order went through fine, received confirmation e-mail.

grendel20 01-07-2013 10:25 PM

Ordered the XD a few days ago and my purchase never went through. I was actually thankful for that since I accidentally purchased two and they have a draconian return policy.

zanetheinsane 01-07-2013 10:26 PM

I've ordered two of the older Roku's from 1SAD, both refurbished, and both have been chugging along perfectly for the past year+.

This is veeeeeeery tempting to upgrade. My Roku 1 is a tad slow on Netflix.

The USB and LAN ports alone make the XS worth the upgrade fee, in my book. I may have to finally bite.

Yeah, me too have a Roku1. It is quite slow in netflix. Just pulled the plug on this one. Thanks to someone who gave me the assurance that this seems to be the lowest possible. I see the last best one was from TD at $60 + S&H. This seems to be cool, just that 1SAD takes a good happy time to ship the item. I'm fine with it :) The fact that I get the motion control remote for playing angry birds alone is very cool :)

Does Plex update automatically for any new files that gets added to the PC. I've downloaded couple of new files to the same directory in the PC running Plex server. But the Plex channel in Roku doesn't seem to find the new files.

zanetheinsane 01-07-2013 10:42 PM

1SAD is very very consistent about selling Rokus. You can pretty much always count on 1-2 sales on these per month. I'm starting to thing that they're just an outlet for refurbished Rokus. Way more on here than on Woot!.

I've had similar issues but according to some plex forums the problem lies with the media server. Typically I just right click the icon in windows and update library. The forums say it has something to do with the file naming. Usually renaming to something simple will fix the problem (though I've not had the naming issue so far)

ss.camaro 01-07-2013 10:47 PM

So what am I missing?
Why are there so many Roku refurbished units for sale?
What are those who are dumping these things getting to replace it?
….Or are they not content with using a streamer and opting out?

zanetheinsane 01-07-2013 10:49 PM

A lot of people don't realize that things like Netflix and Hulu require a subscription fee and buy a Roku simply thinking it will just magically stream TV to them for free. And to be fair, while there is a wealth of content available for the Roku for free, the simple act of finding channels online and adding them to their account is too "high tech" for a lot of people.

if its supports mp4 and mkv files thats all the better.

if pirates/viewers are dumb enough to still be downloading/encoding avis over mp4s they dont deserve a HTPC or a media box like this Roku.....

deal with it.

Well, if you want to get technical, it went for $55 before and it's again going for $55, so it is still the "best price" seen, just not the first time the best price has been seen. He didn't say that this was the first time he's seen it this cheap.
I apologize, I just can't help myself but argue semantics sometimes... :bounce:

I recently tried out a WD tv live that did play avi files but the interface was insanely slow and buggy. It wouldn't let me properly 'eject' the usb drive so I would always have errors if I unplugged it. Also it seems to be the only avi player outside of an android device that resembles a roku, I may just have to bite the bullet and re-encode... hundreds and hundreds of gigs :(

I wish microsoft didn't own the patent and charge royalties on everyone making these handy little devices. Patents cripple the growth of technology.

How are these Roku's with reguards to responsiveness? Is there any reason it would be slow if the media was mostly just playing from USB? Does it have the same issues that the WDtv I mentioned had?

Same website, same price, same OP. Way to be a tool.

MrCrispy 01-07-2013 11:11 PM

I've tried a roku on the past and gave up because it was too slow and unstable, but it undoubtedly has the most support as far as channels go. My question is - is there any other streaming player <$100 which is faster and more stable? E.g. With Plex, is there anything else that will not require transcoding?

How about the blu ray players - is there Netflix UI faster? I see that the Samsung BR players also support Plex with a very nice client UI, but is it usable?

issai 01-07-2013 11:25 PM

Wow! Much cheaper than the $70 Roku2 XS package from Costco that I picked up last week.

Originally, I was going to nab a BR player w/ apps / channels to consolidate hardware, but I heard they're so dog-gone slow that they're painful to use.

CAsawStud 01-07-2013 11:30 PM

These are pretty useful until better technology appears. I picked up both a refurb HD and XS, the latter from 1SAD which shipped rather quickly. The XS is better if only because the motion controlled remote allows you to hide the Roku or attach it to the back of a flat screen. The others require the Roku to be visible to the remote.

FrostyWinnipeg 01-07-2013 11:46 PM

I missed the last deal but got it this time. Just in time for someones birthday. Although I bought it then came here to post about it I will still give a +1 to OP.

andrew_y 01-08-2013 12:07 AM

Definitely in, particularly because, as a Time Warner Cable sub, they just announced their app will be coming this Spring. Great for adding a number of cable channels to another room without installing a second line!

JohanS6655 01-08-2013 12:30 AM

Don't buy it! I got one from their last sale, and the device is really scratched up and does not work! No email response from the company yet, but I am trying to return/exchange.

Simoleon 01-08-2013 01:03 AM

Very much on the fence here. I would like to use this for a second TV in a home sports bar setup. Can anyone speak to the free sports options on this device? I looked on the Roku site, but it was vague at best, especially when trying to find out if things were free or not.

absolute42 01-08-2013 01:07 AM

would it be worth buying this even if i have a wii? i am looking for streamer and maybe video playing

It's hard to say, but I agree there seem to be a lot of refurbs. I suspect that most people are disappointed with the product received. Not because it's a bad product, but because the hyperbole is SO over the top. For starters, it's used for watching videos from the internet for watching television. You can watch Fox and Friends on the Roku, but it's yesterday's clips not todays live show. They boast of 600 channels, but a lot have a very narrow audience (religious, foreign) and many have one time or monthly fees -- or both. It's also a networked device that relies on a solid network connection and a decent home network. If either of these is not up to the task, the experience is not a good one.

That said, I own five -- including a 1saleaday refurb. Of the five, only one had a problem (meritline refurb) and Roku replaced the faulty remote. I have no reservations buying a 1sad refurb. The Roku 2 XS is their best device. It includes a sub port (though usb playback is not as good as with other devices). I have Playon and Plex servers. If you are a cord cutter looking for content, the Playon bundle includes what you might have expected to get from the Roku.

WDTV is much more mature, faster, and more importantly easily plays more formats. It also supports a wider array of external drives, has separate digital audio out.

Why would you buy a roku which doesnt support nearly many codecs?

BTW I have three WD for years and never ever damaged a hard drive unmounting. In fact I have a WD in my car with two.US drives for two years without a hitch.

all players support MP4 and MKV, Roku supports the least other codecs and containers.

Most Blu-ray players' Netflix interfaces are horribly slow. I have a Roku 2 XS and I find it to be very snappy for the most part,

Agree completley. I bought a few Smart blu rays players last month (when Cowboom was blowing out the better LGs and Samsungs for $19-28), for the Fios app, for Netflix, and for HT streaming. Very disappointed with the speed of accessing apps on the blu ray players (tho once you're into an app, it streams fine). After comparing the BR players to Roku2 XS, I'm ready to ebay the BR players and buy another XS or two.

And if it hasn't already been said enough: Plex is amazing (both for streaming files from by laptop, and for web streaming), and google how to install the Unsupported Apps, and grab IceFilms immediately.

I have both a wd tv live and a roku 2 xs. (got it from sams club during their 69.99 price + 20 off 50 credit offer for 50 bucks).

I've been very impressed with the roku 2 so far. We wanted it for netflix/hulu stuff since we just have the regular wd live and not live+.

Plex gives the Roku 2 a nice option for local media, and I really like the interface over WD's for the rest of the stuff.

I would say the free sports options would be classified as non-existent. I've got several Rokus and been using them for a couple years now. I love them, but I have not seen any live sports options whatsoever. No real live TV or any kind really.

Yes, and most everyone is Plex media server for that. I personally think it works great. I set up a folder for kids movies and one for grown-ups. I also pointed the server to my photos folder. I was worried about the photos because its a huge folder with many, many subfolders. It took Plex quite a while to update that library, but its working pretty slick now.

Never returned anything to 1SAD but I've heard it can be a nightmare. I've bought a handful of refurbed items from them, even one of these Roku XS, and they have all been like new condition.

No, it doesn't mirror your computer. Just streams content stored on your computer

malicxv 01-08-2013 06:10 AM

We cut cable almost exactly a year ago with one of these. We use this same model in our living room.

As others mentioned, I setup a PlayOn server and throw movies and TV Shows on that server, and stream them to the Roku player.

However, Streaming HD content over WIRELESS isn't all that great, it can be a bit choppy. But then again, its wireless. Its the connection speed, not necessarily the Roku's fault.

Just picked up a second one for the bedroom TV.

The drawback to "cutting the cord" I've found is really just the lack of "Live" TV Shows/sports. you want your buddies over to watch the NFL game Sunday afternoon? Sorry. Pick another friends house. And, that when you have company over (ie, Parents, friends, other people not familiar with Roku/streaming TV) you have to "teach" them how to use the system. They cant just flip on the TV and start "channel surfing" like they normally would. But for me, its worth saving the $50-$100/mo to the cable/sat company.

That would work great, if that's what you want to do. This is an alternative, with some pros and cons. Laptop connected is definitely more versatile.

but my laptop doesn't have HDMI, though I have connected it to the TV with VGA. Just way to cumbersome for what we want.

I'm married with three young kids and the wife would definitely be unhappy with a big old laptop and wireless keyboard sitting in the room. The roku is tiny, hidden behind the TV.

Also, the three young kids are perfectly able to pick up the Roku remote and find Netflix or Plex and watch their shows/movies. No need to connect anything or boot anything up. Just a convenience thing.

To each their own. We love the Rokus and currently have 4 of them.

I am going to guess no. You can with a WDTV, as long as you have a very good wireless connection.

JuryDuty 01-08-2013 06:23 AM

Thx! Grabbed one. This is my second--we use the first so much that we fight as to who has it on their TV. Especially great if you have Amazon Prime (so you can get Amazon Instant Videos) or if you use Vudu movies.

Since this one has the ethernet in and 1080p, it'll stay with my main TV.

I wish roku could act as a media center extender. I am currently using a 360, to stream tv from my ceton infinitv htpc, and choices are very limited. xbox 360 however does not pay my dvd finles (vob)

I don't know about that. I've been running Plex through the Roku on a Dell e520 (circa 2006, no upgrades) with no problems save the occasional network dropout (I'm on a wireless connection). Most of my files are in mp4, which does not require transcoding and so streams directly, but there are a few home video files in MPEG-2 and even MKV. The transcoding can eat up a lot of CPU, but as long as nothing else is running, it's worked more than well enough for my purposes.

Peliman 01-08-2013 06:50 AM

In for one making it my second Roku and on my way to cutting cable. The Roku and a good antenna to bring in live locals can do it. Sure I'll miss a couple cable networks but not much time to watch them anyhow.

No problem with Plex here. Use it every day. It's important to have a decent PC and a stable network to use Plex. I'm running mine on a really old Quad core AMD with 4gb ram. Surely an i5 dual could do the same job. Gigabit network (though the roku is only 10/100) and wireless N. I never have dropouts/buffering issues on any of my rokus, wired or wireless.

May be time to upgrade one of my older Roku1 units with another XS... Hrm.

Plex like serviio is a transcoding program you use on your computer. It doesnt work for anyone with a nas, direct connected USB, and even when transcoded lacks the quality and transport controls of native play. Just go to any AV forum and ask why anyone would buy a roku over a WD and everyone will tell you there is no reason whatsoever.

Plex on Roku is buggy as heck as well, just look at their fourms

rm1 01-08-2013 07:04 AM

Can this be used to stream Dish Network? I know they sell these on their website but buying this independently from another vendor shouldn't affect that .... will it?

And reencoding reduces quality. Roku is the only one of the majors (Western Digital, Asus, Seagate, Boxxee, Popcorn) that doesn't work with all the major formats. It is the choice of people who don't know anything.

FYI - The underdog in this category is the Sony N200. I've been using one for the past year+, and got another a few months ago... It's not as mainstream as the Roku, but has some advantages, and the firmware updates have sorted out the few early issues in the reviews. In short it does NetFlix, Amazon Video, a bunch of other channels, and has a USB port that can play just about anything, including AVIs. Plus is has a full compliment of connections: WiFi and Ethernet, Component and HDMI, Digital and Analog audio, etc.

Plus, it can be bought used/refurb'd for less than $40, shipped.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SMP-N2...=sony+n200

It's been perfect for my needs, especially since I have a projector, so I need to use a digital audio out that is separate from HDMI. The lone, extremely minor, annoyance is that the USB is not plug-and-play, so you you have to turn it off to plug in a different USB drive. A very minor issue, and inconsequential to me.

How about the blu ray players - is there Netflix UI faster? I see that the Samsung BR players also support Plex with a very nice client UI, but is it usable?

Not a fan of the Samsung Netflix interface on my BR. Can't search/add movies to the queue, you must do it online. You also have to wait for the movie to load, while the Roku loads it instantly, though it's choppy for about 5-10 seconds while it buffers (which is no big deal, as it's usually credits, etc. at the beginning of shows or movies.)

I don't see anyway to add Plex to my own BR unless it's a custom firmware or something, which I wouldn't want to muck around with.

I'm using N200 and have to agree with you. DLNA support is available in N200 and Roku doesn't. It plays (though USB) almost anything, but not all that my LG Bluray does.

However, lack of channels (not 300+ like Roku). No HD in youtube is the disappointing factor for me. Also subtitle doesn't work in streaming services. But I love N200! What else you can expect from a $10 streamer!

arm&hammer 01-08-2013 07:20 AM

This is tempting since I have two already. I've put a Roku box on almost all my TVs.
There seems to be a lot of refurbs out there for many reasons, but the ones I have gotten so far look brand new with the plastic wrapping around it and did not have any fingerprints on the casing. Ordered Roku2XD from Meritline ($50) and a Roku2XS from TigerDirect ($50) I wonder if ROKU is dumping these as repackaged new ones to get a name for themselves? There was a Wallstreet Journal article on Roku starting to compete with Netflix for revenue and content, I guess based on having over 600 apps.

My experience with ROKU has been good, but you do need a strong and solid wireless router (which is usually >$100) to make it work right troughout the house. I tried all the movie channels, checked out the weather, the webcam and played angry bird. It froze on Angry bird once then I unplugged/replugged and it hasn't hick-upped since.
It has an awesome picture, the Amazon HD movies look like Bluray. With so many HD streaming content out there there is no reason to buy a Bluray player. Roku is much faster for navigating than any Bluray player or TV SmartApp. As for picture quality I could see the difference between 720p and 1080p on my 32" and 46" HDTVs.

Make sure you set your Roku2 XS to 1080p for optimal picture. The default setting is 720p I had to go into the setup menu and change it to 1080p.

XS > Wii

Wii is not HiDef ... ROKU XS is, I tried Netflix on my Wii, Insignia Blu-ray, HTPC, Roku XS, to the same HDTV, the same WiFi network, so far XS is the best: menu, picture quality, quick start (because it's ON all the time)), and subtitles are the plus on XS, IMO.

That's actually a nice selling point, hadn't thought about that (makes sense, given you can play motion games with the thing). I got the XD from 1SAD last week, but I think I'm gonna give that to the girls and get the XS for myself. Not having to aim yet another remote is nice.

Most people I know buy the ROKU for Amazon Prime Instant Video since not all Bluray player with apps have Amazon. It is lower cost than buying a Bluray player and easier to use.

There are also free movies, which are "B" rate movies if you are into that type of thing. There are so many "bad" movies that you can spend the rest of your life watching it for free on Roku.

Just an ethernet port. if you are streaming wifi, then no real benefit. XS benefits are the bluetooth remote (which is way better remote, allows you to hide the ROKU behind the TV), ethernet port, and USB port. Though USB port is not much use since video format is so limited.

i always recommend the XS for the extra cost, mainly just for the much better remote. i had to have direct line of sight with the HD remote. It was a bigger pain than I had expected. Once I tried the XS, I bought another one and put the HD in the closet, its that much better.

I think his issue is something in the Roku client and not the Plex server. I too am running Plex server on a simple Core 2 Quad, and it works fantastic. Roku's Plex client is very new and quite buggy if you do anything beyond basic Standard def 2-channel audio h.264 videos, you will encounter issues on the Roku with Plex.

Paid more for a brand new one from Amazon yesterday, getting it today! I'm not dealing with shoddy sites like steal a day anymore.

Yep, you've discovered why I never buy from 1sad. It just makes you 2sad.

In my opinion, if you ship me a broken POC or something used that was supposed to be new, then you give me free return shipping and my money back. You probably won't get either from these guys. They just want to dump their junk on you and leave it that way.

If you're lucky and actually get one that looks decent and works...good on you. I limit my 1sad purchases to ~$10 so I don't care when I have to toss something out.

True. I have used the android remote a few times and it was cool. But I'm not going to hand my cell phone over to my kids so that they can control the Roku. Obviously, once again, different strokes for different folks.

The simplicity of the Roku remote is terrific. Actually, the simplicity of the Roku (once set up) in general is perfect for our family needs, as well as my 70 year old folks who love the Roku I gave them a few months ago

I'm a gadget guy. I've been following this sticks for awhile and will definitely be getting one. But it just isn't a good replacement for the Roku at this time. It would be swell for me, but not so good for the kids or luddite wife.

the stick doesn't come with ethernet port or remote either. Just too complicated for our family needs right now. But I'll be getting one soon to hook up to the motorola lapdock I bought awhile ago, even though we already have four tablets and assorted computers. Daddy just like to play with the cool new gadgets, but just the cheap ones.

I can't tell you the number of things I've gotten from this site. Everything has been delivered and as described. Only issue is slow deliver but if you have that expectation, than all is awesome.

no, video links baiscally have to have a "channel" that you install on Roku.
there is no browser

possible that someone will create a channel or plugin for Plex that would have access to that site. for example there is Unsupported App Store channel available for Plex that has some plug-ins that give access to some similar type websites

The XS is better if only because the motion controlled remote allows you to hide the Roku or attach it to the back of a flat screen. The others require the Roku to be visible to the remote.

The Tiger Direct deal was $49.99 with F/S after $10 rebate, (+ another 6% Cash Back at Mr. R for $3.60).
I really didn't think I'd have a use for this and was pretty hesitant about buying it. Just set it up Sunday, and now I'm thinking of buying another. Close to a 1000 channels, a lot of which I simply didn't even know existed. There are "private" channels, which you won't find at the Roku site, and honestly IMO one of the reasons that this device is so cool. If I would have known about the free porn channels I would have bought this along time ago :P
Seriously though, I can now see why people are referring to this is a "cut the cable" device. No Youtube but the VEVO channel works well for my "MTV" music video's. BBC channel and CNN International channel are streaming, sadly the CNN USA is not. Lots of channels, surely enough to entertain anyone in ones family.

It looks like these can be hit or miss. I've read reviews where people said the unit they received looked used, scratched up and looking like crap. Others, myself included, received units that looked brand new, even the remote.

Not so much but not really a surprise. I don't need to tell you how guarded the MLB, NBA, NFL and the like are about their "Product". NBA Game Time is free, although it's not streaming.

One of the biggest disappointments for me is installing channels like Scifi and NBC to find out what they offer is "clips", no full length shows. I like "Meet The Press" and was hoping to see past shows. What you get to chose from are different clips that are 3, 4 or if your lucky 5 minutes long. I was hoping for complete past episodes. Same with the SciFi Channel, clips.

Does Plex update automatically for any new files that gets added to the PC. I've downloaded couple of new files to the same directory in the PC running Plex server. But the Plex channel in Roku doesn't seem to find the new files.

Go to Plex on your Server PC. In one of the preferences you need to change the setting to update library when a folder is changed and to have it check every 15 minutes.

I ordered XS last month and 1saleadayaday has yet to deliver this. One UNHAPPY 1andsaleaday customer here. They get shipment from chinA and they start selling the product while the ship is still sailing in the Atlantic ocean. Then it takes another week or two to arrive the port then customs clearance is usually 3 days but if they hold the shipment for additional inspection, it could take another week. Thne internal shipping to customers is another week or two. BE WARNED! DO BUSINESS WITH THEM ONLY IF YOU WANT TO WAIT FOREVER FOR THE DELIVERY. They should not sell the merchandise untill it is cleared from the customs.

says HBO Go is inactivated on Roku by some providers. So it might depend on how you get your HBO account. This is old news, from February so it might not be up to date.

I just know that HBO Go was working for me on my Roku with Dish Network account. I no longer subscribe to HBO though.

Hope I didn't steer you down the wrong path...

Not at this time. I'm away from home. I installed the UAS and then from within that, there is a folder for channels/plugins. Icefilms was one of the options. I clicked it, installed it and everything worked for me.

Do you have other channels installed through UAS? Can you see and access them OK?

Do you have "Disable compatibility checking" checked in your Plex server preferences?

Definitely a good price for this however be careful when buying from http://1saleaday.com/. I ordered a leaf blower from them THREE months ago. It never showed up. They have no telephone customer support and their email CS is terrible. Two months later, and I have received nothing. No credit, no blower, not even a tracking number. Their email responses typically tell me to eamil again while the look into it.

Medic311 01-08-2013 10:22 AM

i have actually never had a problem with 1SAD. yeah, one time it took almost 2 weeks for the item to ship out but it did arrive. should i complain? i don't think so...they have saved me tons of money over the last year or so.

for the people who have not received their items after a month...now that is a different story. just call up your credit card company and you will have a refund within 3 business days. i had to file a dispute against Dell once. i returned a monitor and 45 days later i still did not receive my $150 refund. i called up Chase and told them the story including the UPS return tracking # and i had a $150 statement credit the next business day. i never heard from Dell or Chase again about that situation.

your credit card company is on your side, use them to your advantage when dealing with these kinds of situations

So... I ordered this from the 12/4/12 sale. It arrived two weeks later DOA. I sent an email to request a return. I heard back 4 days later saying that I had to return it for warranty service to Roku. I replied saying that it was a defective unit and I wanted to return it per their stated 21 day policy because Roku would charge me shipping.

They said they would cover the shipping, but still wouldn't take a return. So I sent it to Roku via UPS and sent the receipt to 1saleaday. They replied 3 days later saying they would be mailing me a check for the shipping.

To recap, I ordered on 12/4/12. It is 1/8/13 and I still have no Roku and had to spend an extra $11 on shipping for which I may or may not be getting a check eventually.

Order at your own risk.

Yeah, this is why I was asking. I only care to use Netflix and AOD - don't really use youtube so it doesn't matter to me. Only differences (other than disc playing) are cost - $55 vs $85

Well, VideoBuzz is "unofficial" Youtube channel on Roku, you can watch all youtube you want thru this channel.

Amazing device. Bought a second one, don't know what I am going to do with it yet :)

niceguywis 01-08-2013 11:57 AM

I saw a few posts stating this doesn't have a built in web browser however is there a way to get one working on it? Having a browser or something capable of streaming content from Tube+ or other streaming websites would be very nice.

How is the VideoBuzz channel working? I installed in for my folks a couple months ago and haven't heard anything from them. I have Youtube on my Roku, so I don't use VideoBuzz. I was worried that it would be removed somehow by google since they seem to have successfully removed it from the RateRX channel.

I have the Roku HD and bought the XS from 1SaleADay on December 5 when it was $49 and I have to say that it wasn't my greatest transaction . The charger didn't work and the remote didn't work even after battery replacement. I only know because I used the charger and remote from my HD and they worked fine on the XS. After determining that USB streaming was actually better through my PS3, I decided to just stick to the HD.

I imagine my experience was a fluke but having 2 separate things broken seemed a little odd.

I do face the same problem when I got my XD refurb from Tigerdirect. The remote was not communicating with unit at all. Also the unit was pretty beated up. Now I ordered one from 1SAD and very concerned as there is no tel number to contact them.

The one I got in December works great and I have had no problems. Ordered another today!

Yeah, this is why I was asking. I only care to use Netflix and AOD - don't really use youtube so it doesn't matter to me. Only differences (other than disc playing) are cost - $55 vs $85

I got my refurb Sony blu-ray player a while back cheap, I think around $55 so not too far off from Roku. ;)

True. I have used the android remote a few times and it was cool. But I'm not going to hand my cell phone over to my kids so that they can control the Roku.

Me either, that's why they can use their own cell phone, or the $20 (non activated) one I bought a few weeks back.
