$10 or $25 BM 7" Android 4.0 Tablet, 1.3GHz, 4GB, 1GB RAM, Capacitance Touch
3 Attachment(s)
CVS has this low-end but adequate for many on 50-90% off clearance.
Ask the store clerk to check: Craig Tablet 0741, usually in the Photo area with other "high value" electronics. Could be in the back of the store as well. Check the bottom of the box and the back of the tablet if the seal's already open that it's the CMP-741e. Photo attached below. Update: quite a few reported to have paid $25 with 75% off now. $12.5 anyone? (holding breath...) Update 2: multiple reports of $10 or 90% off. Receipt updated. Thanks, zirjacks! Craig CMP741e running ICS 4.0.3. Has HDMI, and works fine with Youtube and Netflix. The spec is much better than CMP741d, which seems to be the ridicule in this forum. A good review here, http://www.androidtablets.net/for...0-cpu.html which also gives the instructions how to root it and get G Play. Seems pretty similar to the Double Power tablet T711 sold by Walmart for $59 about a month or so back. I got one and it worked pretty good until my kid dropped it and broke the screen.
If you can find one, good starter tablet (for kids, for sure) IMO. |
how much does it cost to make? Not sure but to put it in perspective, think about this. Guess how much it costs Apple to make a COMPLETE Iphone? You'll choke! $8 (and yes I said $8 and no I didn't slip a decimal). They then sell them to the wireless carriers for about $600 and then these guys sell them much cheaper but make up for it on the service.

Wilson Rothman / NBC News Early estimates by hardware analysts put the cost of building the iPhone 5 with 16 GB at around $200 — more expensive than the 4S was at launch but not surprisingly so. The improved screen and wireless chip are tipped as major costs. The device isn't even shipping yet, but companies like IHS iSuppli can still put together an estimate by looking at published specs and talking with manufacturers. Until the actual phone gets dissected and the parts identified and priced, it's just speculation, but a ballpark estimate is still useful. An earlier analysis by UBM TechInsights put the cost at $167.50, however, so both should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt. The most expensive single item in the iPhone 5's bill of materials is the screen, according to iSuppli; by integrating the touch panel and increasing the size to 4 inches (from 3.5 inches), the cost for that one component jumps to an estimated $44. The new LTE-capable wireless chip is the next-most-expensive piece, costing around $34, significantly more than the 4S's more limited chipset. Not all the components are more expensive, though. The flash memory used to store all your music and apps has gotten cheaper over the last year, meaning 16GB of it now cost as little as $10, compared with $17 last year and even higher the year before. The $199 total is exactly the price at which the 16GB version of the device is being offered, at least with a two-year contract. With no contract, the price balloons to $649, more than three times the estimated cost to build it. It's a relatively high markup: Google's Nexus 7 tablet, for instance, is estimated to cost $152 to build, and it sells for $199 with no contract. These cost analyses help the industry understand how much profit is being made per phone, and teardowns show who actually makes the components in question (for example, Sony made the iPhone 4S's camera). Expect a full breakdown of parts and costs when the device actually ships. Devin Coldewey is a contributing writer for NBC News Digital. His personal website is coldewey.cc. |

Good kid tablet for the car. Got an N7, and now my kid (as well as myself) won't put it down. Rooted Nook Color gathering dust, and it runs wonderfully with an amazing screen. Damn technology. Love the one you're with and hold out if you can. The Tegra Zone games are amazing, but so were the basic free "simple" Android games.
|
Hoping to get a price adjustment from the $50 sale price.

went to 7 CVS - was only available at 2 of them but rang up $49.99 on both...didn't buy it...will try tomorrow..
Any B&M CVS Coupons ??? |
Bought it for $25 at my CVS. They also had a tablet/computer with keyboard thing called "crystal view." Please don't waste your time unless you really need a tablet for some reason. IMHO both were really, really not worth even $25. The screen looks like its from the 90s, and they were so unresponsive.

There are $4/20 CVS Q's on ebay...and can stack (can use 2 on a $40 purchase, 3 on a 60, etc). I've personally never had any problems using multiple ones in a transaction (I've used up to 10, and in the DS forum, heard people used up to 20+), but its a YMMV as some places will only let you use one. If you plan to buy a few, its usually about $2-3 for like 10 4/20 q's.

-- Got the last one! Went to 2 different CVS's, 1st one out, 2nd one only had 1 left :) Quite an interesting device... "only" has 1 x 1.3GHz CPU, but also has Mali 400 GPU. However, it doesn't take much to power 800x480 resolution.. UI seems pretty smooth, battery was dead from the beginning. Uses mini-HDMI (you'll need an adapter), and has a MicroSD slot (probably only up to 32GB SDHC). Great for $25! (well, $5 for me cuz I had $20 in CVS bucks from the last Craig clearancing deal). I guess biggest con is that the port is Mini-B (as opposed to Micro-B). Darn, and I was just about finishing clearing out all my old Mini-B devices... |
Gps?
If yes this is great carputer |
How does this compare to the $59 Uniden some got @ Big Lots before Christmas? Are the screens the same? Resolution, etc?
|
Can someone compare to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/M009-E18-...51a20193d7
The one at cvs seems better because of HDMI right? Or am I missing something, because for $25 this seems outstanding. |

The Craig Tablet offers 1gb ,while the latter only has 512. The prior may be charged via mini Usb and the ebay and uniden tablet must use a dedicated charger. I have owned the Craig tablet and have been happy with the purchase. There is an active community for hacking and such. My young daughter seems to enjoy it as well. For $25, it really can't be beat and if you aren't satisfied with the purchase, you can always return it. I hope this helps, Aanairai |

There are 7 tablets at the Grove City CVS south of Columbus if anyone is interested. Bought 1, along with a router. $6 and $25, plus got a $6.25 extra bucks coupon on the router transaction (may be giving extra bucks equivalent to xmas purchases?). So it made the tablet $19.
Impressions scale (1-5, 5 being a Nexus 7) Build quality 3 - light cheap shiny plastic with big "CRAIG" at top. Fingerprint magnet. Needs a case. Used it for 20 minutes and the back shows fine scratches already. Keep the plastic on the back until you get a case. Screen 2 - worst screen quality I've seen. Turn the brightness to 100% and it's tolerable. Touch responsiveness 4 or better. No problems at all. OS stock 4 (no issues at all, and easily downloaded Amazon apps, and Amazon app store runs much better than rooted nook color). You don't need to root this if you're not comfortable doing it. CPU 4 - this thing is snappy. GPU 4 - no stalls at all on video, ninjump, letsbowl2, talking tom all work great. maps satellite zooms in rather quickly. Overall - 3.5. Put the brains of this in the shell of a Nook Color, and you'd have an almost perfect budget tablet. I'm impressed with the speed and fluidity. It's a very, very far cry from the polished Nexus 7. But at one eighth the cost, it's a must have for tinkering, kids, etc... Not sure I'd recommend as an e reader. Text quality on email is horrible. Very fuzzy. |

How to install G Play (and root it along the way),
/Thanks to Dax Krishna on TheUnlockr. I. Before You Begin 1. Make sure that you have your device charged to 75% or more before you begin. 2. Back up everything you feel is important just in case. 3. Make sure that you have ADB set up before you start with the procedure. Look to our procedure on this to help with this. II. Necessary Downloads RootThat-ICS.zip http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8744740/RootThat-ICS.zip III. Rooting the Craig CMP741D Android Tablet 1. Enable USB debugging on your device. To do this, go to Settings > Developer Options and tick the Android debugging checkbox. 2. Connect your device to your PC. Windows should install the relevant drivers at this point. If these are not installed, set up ADB and try again. 3. Extract RootThat-ICS.zip to a folder on your desktop. 4. From the extracted folder, double-click on windowsstart.bat. 5. Click on the Root Device button. 6. Follow on-screen instructions. At the end of it all, you should have a Craig Tab that is rooted! IV. Installing Google Apps 1. Great deal!
called 15 CVS locations along my route to work this morning before I was able to find a store with some tablets left. I had the clerk hold the remaining 4 and happened to mention one of the other stores I had visited marked the units down to $9.99. When I made it to the store on my lunch break, all 4 tablets were sitting behind the counter waiting for me with a note to ring them up at $9.99!
THANK YOU OP! |
While messing around with the tablet, i found this file in File Manager under android com.rovio.badpiggies.premium but it does not have the Bad Piggies installed on the tablet itself. So, is it already in the tablet or how do i install it? Or maybe the one i bought was a return.

f you live in Los Angeles don't even bother visiting your nearest CVS.
I was bored today and me and my friends went all over LA looking for this $10. I personally check 7 different CVS stores, I basically checked all of west hollywood, and west los angeles including the wilshire, la brea, and la cienega area. Just trying to save you guys some time. |
What's the difference between 741d and 741e other than the home button? Any advantage to either one?
$25 was a good deal but wish I could get in on $10. |
Buy, Switch and Return
Yesterday my son call all the CVS pharmacies in the Camarillo, Oxnard, and Ventura area, to no avail. He also called several stores from Thousand Oaks to Agoura, and also Simi Valley. He lucked out and we were able to buy two tablets at the Wood Ranch location. We wanted two more, so we had the clerk at CVS call a couple of stores in the San Fernando Valley. We were lucky again and found two more at the Tarzana store.
There are four members in my family so we each have one. My son was eager to have me open mine so I obliged. At first glance, everything looked good, the box had Craig seals at each end. The first red flag was that the box is missing an AC adapter and a cable. The next flag came when I looked at the back and saw the word Sylvania. It did not turn on, so I put on an existing charger for a couple of hours. When I finally turned on the unit, Sylvania popped up on the boot screen, followed by a strange looking home screen. Major flag! It was really difficult to bring up the About screen in the settings. That was the final straw... the model was SYTAB7MX, a real low end tablet with a 1ghz processor, 512mb RAM, wifi b/g, and running Android 2.2! It is registered to s______9@Gmail.com and had a few non-standard apps installed, including a Super User root app. Googling the name came up with several entries including a domain name page that listed the guy's home address and phone number. He lives only a couple of miles from the CVS Tarzana store. The jailbase web site shows an arrest for a felony charge but no details. My forensic data investigation yielded a huge "paper" trail. Now the question is how to proceed. CVS needs to know about the switched return and how it ended up with me. I went to a lot of time and expense to buy a tablet with very good specs and would not be satisfied with a return of my $24.99 plus $3 recycling fee and $4.50 sales tax. I want the kind of tablet listed on the box, or another with equivalent or better specs. I haven't looked at the other three tablets but the chances are pretty good that they are correct ones. |

I just paid $25 plus tax for one. The manager said any store selling it for $9.99 will be getting in trouble with their DMs. They were only supposed to mark them down 75%.
In any case this thing is a hot pile of garbage. I'll probably return it, at $25 it still seems like a bit of a rip off. It's almost painful to look at the screen. |
returned mine, can't get it recognized to win 7 or mac, even using adb...
so, no way to push superuser over to root it... (my unit has an "unavailable" serial #, which every android device should have in order to be recognized by adb) btw, my model # is CMP741d, though the sticker on box is CPM741e, if i could ever see 3-5 of them on shelf, i'd just get them for resale purposes, not good for personal use even. not even worth my effort for such piece of crap, and for such low-end stuff, i'd thinking about the same-spec-ed china-pad, which at least comes in rooted with PlayStore installed. that'll save u tons of trouble with the Craig |
Currently trying to root mine, even for just stock it's a decent photo album, kids toy, crappy e reader, YouTube player... Found the only the store that had one in my area... Went to 7 other stores looking for a friend and a family member.. Wasted 90 minutes thanks OP for the one I did get.

OOS in my local CVS here in Brooklyn, NY. Most likely same in most of the other stores here too. I literally ran to the CVS cause I saw this post 10 minutes before they closed.
|
Found out mine was a return after opening the box. The seal was still attached as it was not the super sticky type where it's will pull off the top part of the box. After checking it for a few hours, nothing seems to be wrong with it and the only sign of it being turned on was a picture of a kid taken on 12/25 in the photo app. The only reason it was returned i think was because the buyer does not know how to install amazon app store and could not download any apps. The tablet does not come with the app installed, instead it have the icon link to the download page on amazon and i found that the app was downloaded 7 times but was not installed. So i assumed that the kid got it as a christmas gift and returned it since he couldn't install the app.

Besides, even with these specs, considering the actual production and materials quality and minimal support, these Craig tablets really aren't worth more than what you paid, maybe less. You'd have better luck eyeballing Chinese brand imports from a US store. You can get much better overall value even if you have to start with $50+. |
Please for the love of god put B&M in the title please.
|
Both of my local stores were out. And to the poster that asked if people actually buy these? I see people buying them all the time in my local area for $70-80.
It might seem obvious to some people, but the vast vast majority of people don't know the difference between anything when it comes to tech. |
As I posted in the other Craig's clearance thread:
"Was able to score the last two at my local CVS for $25 each yesterday. Model CMP741d. Rooted them both. First off, I have to say that I am impressed by the quality of the touchscreen for this price. It has had only a few issues with freezing, but I give it a couple seconds and it's fine. It runs Angry Birds Rio (but not the others for some reason), Bejeweled 2, Jewel Quest, and Duke Nukem 3D, quite well (i.e. very little or no lag), as well as some other games too. I even got it to play Super Mario 64 in the N64 emu with almost no lag. Pretty excited about that. Works well with Amazon App Store, but has some issues with the updated, new user interface version, so I've kept it on the older version for now. I've installed Chrome, Opera Mobile, and Firefox, but Opera seems to work the best for some reason (I use Chrome on my GS3). A suggestion for those who are disappointed because of the lag: try Nova Launcher. It runs noticeably better with Nova tweaked to "fast" animation settings. Not to mention you can get more apps on the screen and make everything look better too. Did some simple clocking of the CPU with CPU Tuner to run it between 408MHz and 1008MHz. Skype works (as well as it can with a 0.3MP camera!), and so does the Xfinity streaming app. I'll admit the battery life kind of stinks; I think heavy wifi usage (i.e. downloading multiple games/apps) kills it the worst. Even playing games doesn't seem to kill the battery as much as heavy wifi usage. But as someone else already stated, it is to be expected with budget tablets like these. I don't think I'd have the same opinion if I had paid $100, but for $25, I can't really complain. Thanks OP!" Anyone have any success flashing 4.1.1 yet? I want to, but I'm not sure which compatibility pack to use, as per the youtube guide. |
Nothing at the Sacramento Elk Grove-Florin Blvd store.
|
i got one for $25. crappy is an understatement. thing freezes every 2 seconds, even after being rooted and CPU tuner running. idk wtf i'm doing wrong
EDIT: installed novalauncher and things seem to work a little better. CPU Tuner still freezes everytime I launch it |
I can't for the life of me get the drivers to install on WIndows 7 64 bit. So no root for me. I have tried every guide I could find and it won't see it as a ADB device. Shows up under hard drives?? Does anyone have a rooted ROM image they could post for the CMP741d??
|
Happened to me too. Go to control panel, devices, and locate the tablet. right click it and click properties, then go to hardware. It will show all the drivers that it has installed. It should be two for mass storage (sd card and onboard storage), two that say something about linux, and another saying usb device. Look at the name of that driver, and go to device manager and uninstall it. Plug it back in with debugging enabled, and it should install the correct one. This is what I had to do after following all the different guides out there and the driver still wouldn't install. I take it this happens if you plug in the tablet before installing the android sdk or modifying all those .inf files.
|
I found my answer here...the article is for the Nexus 7 but if you click on settings->then storage under advanced options-->USB--> change to PTP device it finally shows up as ADB device!! Change driver and root away!! Tut with screen shots...http://zacktutorials.blogspot.ca/...pment.html

In nyc, the christmas stuff in my area finally went down to 75% at 1/12. Today I took my tablet that I brought a few days back for $50 and wanted to do a price adjust. At first the clerk gave me a bad time and finally said "you should be lucky that you get it for less."

Does anyone know the difference between the 741D and E? I know the E has a home button, but there has to be other differences too since they have different app compatibilty. The link the TS post doesn't really detail anything except possibly one being a RK chipset and the other an Allwinner. Both the E and D that we have here are clocked to 1008mhz. I think the confusing part of the 741D is it being associated with the earlier Gingerbread tablet. |

Hey is anyone else having issues with The touch screen and typing? The first one I opened seems the be having issues where I'll type a letter, say an a or q, and the keyboard closes. Its almost like the multi touch is being overly active?

it is quite interesting to see how these tablet are made

For $25, this thing is pretty good. Perfect tablet for me to give to my son and soon-to-be-nephew to mess around with.
The viewing angles on the screen really suck, but the speed is pretty good for something so cheap. I am keeping one to mess around with and maybe turn into a automation controller or something like that. |
Bm to check Cvs tomorrow

Can anyone compare the performance of the Craig tablet to an 8GB Nook Tablet?

Thinking of returning it for a faster one. :bulb: Seriously, they're all gone in NE IA or I'd pick one up, just so I could PRACTICE rooting and all. ;) Even if they're not as quick as an i7 HP Envy. |

I never had a nook tablet but I did have the nook color. This thing is as fast if not faster than the nook color was. This thing is no slouch. |

Nook tablet is dual-core. And yes memory matter; try running some game like Angry Bird with 512MB and you will see. CMP741e has Mali400 graphic and it will blows away Nook punny GPU http://www.sleetherz.com/2011/09/...u-can-get/ |

is inferior compared to Mali400 (on CMP471e) So unless Nook tablet comes with DDR5 RAM which would be better than CMP471e DDR3, its not going to beat it. Even if Nook tablet is $25, i would still pick CMP471e over it. |
How many times does this have to get posted?
|
Is there a support/development thread for these?
Stopped using mine cuz it's so unusable.. |
Been looking around in North Jersey. Yet to find one.
