The select-a-size is the same price btw. 6 rolls Select-a-size $13.41 ac [amazon.com]

Thanks Goodentree!

===
Price Comparisons:

Select-A-Size sheet = 11" x 6"
Full size sheets = 11" x 10.4" (LESS than two of select-a-size sheets)

This Amazon deal:
120 sheets/roll x 6 rolls=720 sheets (full sheet)
$13.41 (after coupon) / 720 sheets = $0.0186 per sheet (full sheet)

Other Amazon deal (6 rolls) (select-a-size)
$13.61 (after coupon)
193 sheets / roll x 6 rolls = 1158 sheets
$13.61 / 1158 = $0.0118 per sheet (select-a-size)

Target has 12 giant rolls select-a-size towels for $14.99.
Store Item Number (DPCI): 253-03-0081
116 sheets (the target photo shows 132 sheets per roll which is not true)/ roll x 12 rolls = 1392 sheets
$14.99 / 1584 = $0.0108 per sheet (select-a-size sheet)

Costco mega rolls (select-a-size)
$14.99 after $2 coupon
129 sheets/roll x 12 rolls = 1548 sheets
$14.99 / 1548 = $0.00968 per sheet (select-a-size)

Verdict: Target and Costco deals are cheaper than Amazon (not counting taxes nor driving costs)

Normal Size Sheet Pack is OOS from Amazon

Select a Size still in stock you have to change it to 6 rolls instead of 12.

I think your math is wrong... This deal is a total of 571.8 Sq. Ft. The select a size comes to 530.7 Sq. Ft. total.... you get more with this deal...

Eagles89 01-08-2013 09:51 PM

How does this compare to the Kirkland towels that costco sells? I personally don't like the texture or feel of the Kirkland towels. I think bounty feels a lot better.

shaosam 01-08-2013 10:09 PM

Paper towel experts, what's your opinion on these?

Goodentree 01-08-2013 10:19 PM

They are good, however, the Select-a-size version is way better and last longer. Basically because you use half-sheets instead of full sheets. Half sheets seem well equipped to handle most spills.

The select-a-size is the same price btw. 6 rolls Select-a-size $13.41 ac [amazon.com]

so has there been a LOWER price than this.. or is this as low as it comes so if you need it buy now type of thing

Fred001 01-08-2013 10:59 PM

Can get it cheaper at target when it's on sale and offer the $5 target gift card when you buy 2 multi-packs...But if you don't like getting a target gift card, then this is still a good price....especially if you can get free shipping to save on time, gas, and hassle...

worse compared to costco

food1313 01-08-2013 11:06 PM

Costco sells 12 pack for $20. At 76.2 sq ft per roll (914.4 total), this comes out to $0.0218 per square foot.

This deal is for 6 pack for $13.41. At 95.3 sq ft per roll (571.8 total), this comes out to $0.0235 per square foot.

TLDR: This is not a good deal. Buy from Costco or better yet, buy from Costco when they have the $2 coupon and you will get more paper towels for your dollar.

Well, I've seen the select-a-size for as low as $12.99 at a local Meijer store. But that is so infrequent that it doesn't count as anything approaching a "regular" price, and after tax it's about the same as this price. I'm going to pick some up.

Thanks all! TU'ed the deal, but will go back and rep the math genius who did the calcs! Got the select a size, since Costco's is one-size-fits-all. Of course, i often will rip half sheets off the roll for small jobs, but can't quite do a third-sheet or quarter-sheet.

reininop 01-09-2013 12:02 AM

Apparently paper towel is cheap in the Midwest. If I pay more than $0.75 per regular roll of Bounty, I'm getting screwed. I like to get it around $0.66 per regular roll equivalent.

And yes, this is Bounty, not the generic stuff.

wd40 01-09-2013 12:03 AM

I buy the walmart brand...1 cent per sheet (and if I cut a sheet in half, they cost me a half cent per half sheet)...my kid can use up half a roll cleaning his car and it won't bother me...if I bought these $2 plus rolls, I would have to put them under lock and key and put up a sign out log for every sheet.
if you zoom in on the photos, you can see that it says 120 sheets...a "standard" roll is 60 to 70 sheets...where does Bounty get off calling "2 rolls equal 5 regular rolls"?...2 x 120 equals 240 divided by 5 equals 48 sheets...Bounty has the nerve to call 48 sheets a standard roll????

not necessarily. he probably has seen bounty for 99 cents. I've seen bounty rolls at my local "dollar" store anywhere from 99 cents to $1.19 BUT they're the tiny rolls. I don't even think they're regular, might be some foreign or non retail package but they are bounty. however almost 3 of them are needed to make the huge rolls so its really like $3 a roll. so he's probably looking at those. Also, I think they sell it at or near cost simply to get you to come in because its always on the sidewalk advertised and then you end up buying a bunch of crap.

It worked for this deal. It also worked for the next thread the OP created right after finding out this one was a repost. (The next thread was a repost as well.) The OP got lucky though because I don't think the mods are going to merge this one.

aniqa99 01-09-2013 01:47 AM

i cant believe people are actually commenting on the "feel" of paper towels that are used to wipe up a mess! i minimize using paper towels. they are a waste of money . and most things can be done with a towel which is reusable! why in the world would i get bounty paper towels when they are so expensive? geeezzzz!

sacflies 01-09-2013 01:49 AM

These HUGE rolls are too big for my paper towel dispenser. Guess I will stick to finding the normal size rolls on sale at the local grocery store. Heard?

opie169 01-09-2013 01:50 AM

Bounty - the quicker picker upper!

They really do clean up messes faster.

And they really hold their weight - remember that old commercial where they hold, in the air, a full cup of coffee on a wet Bounty Paper Towel? Try holding a full tea cup in the air on a wet Chinese made Dollar Store Paper Towel and see what happens? You'll be needing a Bounty Paper towel to clean up the mess, that's what will happen.

As to choose your size - get regular size rolls and tear a towel in two. You'll save lots of money over their Choose-your-size rolls. If you don't believe me - take a look at the stats for each type of roll - for the Choose your Size, they're inflated because they count 2 sheets for every normal sheet. So Consumers think they're getting more towels when in fact they get less in a full roll, as compared to a regular roll. My husband bought the "choose-your-size" once - until I pointed out the stats to him. I explained that they didn't save us money at all - it was just an advertising ploy. He was mad at me (he gets so defensive sometimes (sigh), but he's never bought them again.

You are somewhat right about the select-a-size vs regular for these towels. Looking at the packaging, you get ~190SQFT with 2 of the regular rolls, and 176SQFT with 2 of the select-a-size. By no means 2x as much, but I see your point. On the other hand, how often do you actually rip the towel in half to use twice? Me? When I need a towel, often times one hand is messy so I just grab the towel and rip at the perforations and use the whole big sheet, I do believe that the select-a-size does reduce my usage enough that the roll lasts longer and is used more efficiently.

tigger_too_wooh 01-09-2013 05:02 AM

For those who missed this...

Costco has the 12 pack (=20 normal rolls) select a size bounty for $16.95 with a $2 off coupon for January. So $14.95 plus tax...

...and I would have gone out of my house and drove to Costco anyway so it wasn't any extra skin off my nose...

Please dont tell me thats the regular price. Because not sure where you live, but here in NY my local syupermarket sells regular rolls for $2 a roll, if I'm lucky they are on sale for $1.50. Yes I said regular not giant.

and a smidge cheaper since there's 7 dollar coupon that come if u buy 35 dollars or more, which is pretty much 2 packs and some of the o so fluffy toliet paper charmin. which is also on sale. megarolls 12 pack for 12.99.

lex2 01-09-2013 06:34 AM

Confused!??

Target has a circular that shows the 12 giant roll = 18 regular roll packaging for $15.99. Buy 2 and you get a $5 gift card back. This is running for week of Jan 6 - 12, 2013.

Does that mean they increased the price from $14.99?

Jagace: Your 8 rolls are equal to 12 rolls for $10.87 w/ tax, this Amazon deal is "Huge" rolls equals to 15 rolls for $13.71. Is amazon false advertising and this really isnt "Huge"? But if all is correct I am paying $2.84 for 3 more rolls of bounty? =)

jmor 01-09-2013 06:46 AM

This isn't a good deal as said by many people and all the math in the Wiki, especially compared to Target. I love my Red Card

e.chang 01-09-2013 06:50 AM

Wouldn't the 12 Roll Bounty Huge Roll, A Size be cheaper overall?

Merumeru 01-09-2013 07:00 AM

In for 1 X3 I like big rolls and I cannot lie <3

TheEdge 01-09-2013 07:03 AM

I'm on the run, no time for math, but Publix has the 12 roll equivalents for $9.99 on sale this week at Publix (both SAS and regular). There is also a $1 coupon when you donate $1 to the Special Olympics. So the coupon is somewhat of a wash, but it's less than $1/roll and you get a good feeling knowing you did a good deed.

Today is the last day for this "deal" in most areas as the new ad week for those regions begins tomorrow.

Meh on the 'deal' but props on the hype.

Amazon and their smoke & mirrors pricing models. Funny thing is, they've got people so hooked most (not SDers of course) don't even bother to compare prices anymore.

aimee1282 01-09-2013 07:30 AM

thanks, I ended up just getting the select a size for a few cents more.

arsk 01-09-2013 07:32 AM

I'll throw in my 2 cents. To get the best deal on paper towels, you really have to figure cost per sq ft. It's the only way to compare. If you have a brand you are loyal to, it is a bit easier, but even with bounty's regular/big/huge/gigantic naming system I found it worth the extra minute to bust out a calculator.

I figure anything under .025 and you are not getting totally ripped off. I can find this price in my regular grocery store.

This deal is $12.60/(190.6sqft*3) = .0220 Not bad
For reference, on Amazon on Dec 12th there was a lighting deal where 8 rolls of huge (4-2packs) were on sale for $21.88 - $6.80 (lightning deal) - $3 (coupon) = $12.08

That breaks down to $12.08/(190.6sqft*4) = .0158/sqft

That is a 28% difference from this deal.

That might qualify as "the best deal ever". If you are a large consumer of paper towels, it might pay to memorize these costs/sqft and set up an alert on SD.

DarthSaver 01-09-2013 07:41 AM

wth?? Not the lowest price ever.

I noticed this too. In the wiki it points to Target website item that is $14.99 (but "only sold in stores")
http://www.target.com/p/bounty-se...53-03-0081
but the circular appears to show the same item for $15.99

I wonder if they'd honor the website price and still give $5 GC for buying 2.

Target 5% card discount roughly cancels out sales tax, so that's roughly apples-to-apples comparison to Amazon (assuming no tax for most).

I prefer to examine cost based on "regular roll", as I find that to be more meaningful/notable. Bounty paper towels is one item I keep track of prices at a few stores:

Select-A-Size:
Costco: 12Mega=20Reg, $17.19=$086/Reg, -$2 coupon currently = $15.19=$0.76/Reg
Amazon: 6Huge=15Reg, $16.41=$1.09/Reg, S&S $15.59=$1.04/Reg, -$3 coupon = $12.59=$0.84/Reg
Target: Depending if it really costs $14.99 each, ($15.99x2)-$5GC, or ($14.99x2)-$5GC
12Giant=18Reg, $14.99=$0.83/Reg
2x 12Giant=18Reg, ($15.99x2)-$5=26.98 =$0.75/Reg
2x 12Giant=18Reg, ($14.99x2)-$5=24.98 =$0.69/Reg

- When adding tax, Amazon gets better than Costco normal price, but still not as good as Costco currently with coupon.
- Target flyer will be better than Costco when adding tax to both and subtracting 5% red card (and assuming you're not getting 5% on whatever card you use at Costco)
- Target if you can get them to honor online price plus still Buy2Get$5GC is the best deal.

Pre-tax and pre-discounts, I usually find that $0.75 per regular roll select-a-size is a good sale price. Anything lower than that is a great deal and worth stocking up.

Hope that helps.

Bounty can't seem to decide how many sheets are in a "regular" roll. Their 15X and 18X etc. use different numbers of sheets in the rolls. They round their calculations funny.

StrokerAce 01-09-2013 08:28 AM

$9.44 at Target

Thanks - I think I looked at it once originally and it matched or was close enough so I didn't bother looking deeper. Now that you mention it, I'll have to check closer/again. Thanks. Ok, here's what I can find...:

Mega=129 sheets, says 12M=20R, infers Reg=77.4 sheets
Huge=193 sheets, says 2H=5R, infers Reg=77.2 sheets
Giant=116 sheets, says 8G=12R, infers Reg=77.3 sheets
Big=103 sheets, says 12B=16R, infers Reg=77.3 sheets
Super=142 sheets, says 12S=22R, infers Reg=77.5 sheets
Regular=77 sheets

Everything seems to nicely match to 77.x sheets per Regular Roll. So I don't see any issue here in Bounty's math. HOWEVER....

You've helped point out some bad info that exists, it seems. The Target website photo appears to be a marketing photo / pre-production / etc. Note it does not have a bar code. I believe it incorrectly lists 132 sheets. I found the same product at Staples and it lists 116 sheets for a Giant roll. Also Amazon has an 8G=12R with Giants as listed above and those also show 116 sheets.

So the Target photo is wrong, as is the Wiki that lists 132 sheets for a Giant. I've never modified a Wiki so I'll ask/leave it to someone else to fix that.

Here you can see the wrong (132) count for Giant on Target's site:
http://www.target.com/p/bounty-se...53-03-0081
Which would have meant:
Giant=132 sheets, says 12G=18R, infers Reg=88.0 sheets <--- Wrong / Not consistent.

But on Staples site, you can see the correct (116) count for Giant:
http://www.staples.com/Bounty-Sel...uct_102435
Which, like the Amazon 6G=12R above, this 12G=18R still computes correctly:
Giant=116 sheets, says 12G=18R, infers Reg=77.3 sheets

Furthermore, I am also recalling some Bounty packaging that didn't specifically compare to "Regular rolls". It said something like " X Mega = Y Normal Rolls", or something like that. I'm having deja vu on this so don't recall exactly. Perhaps that is what you encountered as well. As noted above, at least for the ones that explicitly compare to "Regular Rolls", all seems on the up and up.

Yep. I looked at the 12 pack I bought at Target. It's giant rolls of 116 sheets per roll. The Target photo is wrong. I have E-mailed Target.

1 back in stock of the select a size.

snowcrash 01-09-2013 03:22 PM

Before tax, since it's different for each states.

This Amazon deal:
120 sheets/roll x 6 rolls=720 sheets (full sheet)
$12.59 / 720 = $0.0175 per sheet (full sheet)

Other Amazon deal (6 rolls) (select-a-size)
$12.59 (after coupon)
193 sheets / roll x 6 rolls = 1158 sheets
$12.59 / 1158 = $0.0109 per sheet (select-a-size)

Target has 12 giant rolls select-a-size towels for $14.99.
Store Item Number (DPCI): 253-03-0081
116 sheets (the target photo shows 132 sheets per roll which is not true)/ roll x 12 rolls = 1392 sheets
$14.99 / 1392 = $0.0108 per sheet (select-a-size sheet)
$14.24 / 1392 = $0.01023 per sheet (select-a-size sheet) - Target Red Card 5% discount

Target buy two and get $5 gift card back
($14.99 * 2) - $5 / (1392 * 2) = $0.009 per sheet (select-a-size sheet)
($14.99 * 2) - 5% off - $5 GC / (1392 * 2) = $23.48 / 2784 = 0.0084 per sheet (select-a-size sheet) - Target Red Card 5% discount

My local Foodmaxx had Scotts 6 rolls on mega sale for $2.48 then there was a printable coupon from the Scotts website for $1.25 off making a 6 roll pack only $1.23 or .20 cents a roll. It was awesome!

This thread is for people who like Bounty paper towels. Personally, Bounty and Costco paper towels are the only two brands I like and use. If you prefer other brands strictly due to cost then move on. This deal is not for you. Yes, I know I'm very late at making this comment.

$12.59. Amazon only adjust prices on pre-orders and only if it's lower at release date.

They'll ship the first one right away and subsequent ones according to the schedule you select. So, your first order will be $12.59 and your subsequent ones, if you don't cancel the subscription, will be billed at the price -- less the subscription discount -- in effect at the time they fill the order.

I was supporting the OP, you were not.

You were supporting Costco even though it is a membership location and it is B&M with a printed coupon from an insert/newspaper/whatever.

Op is Amazon online (open to all) and coupon (available to all) were presented. Easy to replicate.

If you would like to send me a costco membership, coupon, 2 hours worth of gas (round-trip) and pay me for my time, I'll gladly take it. Otherwise...

Thanks OP and don't listen to the TC-ers.
