. Walmart has this one sale with free shipping to store or home, must put in card and go to checkout to see the lower price. Not the best price ever, but a decent price for a good tv

Give it another month and it'll be cheaper. Everyone's trying to clear out this "black friday" special unit from their inventory.

I see in the reviews that it is passive 3d... How do you know whether a screen is active?

I have this tv in the 55 inch from last year. passive means u decide whether to put it in 3d mode or watch in regular tv. except for some sports and a few movies hardly use the 3d as not a game player

This is pretty much entirely incorrect.

Passive means the screen uses a FPR and you wear the glasses like you would in a movie theater (ie no batteries, no flicker) to see the 3D part. This also means in 3D mode verticaly resolution is cut in half.

Active means the screen alternaties showing left and right eye images and you have to wear active glasses which use batteries and have flicker that some people report they can see.

Usually a TV's sepcs will say which it is - so far the most common for passive is LG and Vizio LED TVs while Samsung is mostly (all?) active. As far as I know Plasma only comes in active.

For any kind of 3D display you must choose to turn on 3D except for sources which are frame packed 3D which the set will auto detect.
