Obi 202 vs Ooma
 

Hi guys,
for a novice, there were initial setup drawbacks with the early Obi, but with the latest Obi202, you get two separate lines and setup is fairly simple and easy, they say!
I wanted to find out from fellow SD'ers their experiences in comparing these. I should have probably asked this prior to black friday when Ooma was on sale for $100, but i say never too late. I'm tired of using Vonage and paying $35+/month with not that great quality.
I definitely want to port my existing home phone # from Vonage.
Could you please give me your feedback on which one I should go with? Google Voice is free in 2013, so i can get away for this year at least...
I have Comcast Blast, and get good download/upload speeds (checked with speedtest).

If google voice is free, which every year it is, than I would probably go with the obi. Simply do to the fact that its cheaper.

I, myself, have the ooma and love it. I needed an Ooma because I wanted to keep my old number and port it to my new home. They did that for me for a flat charge of $39. It comes with nice features like voice mail to email and caller ID. You don't pay a thing and setup is really easy. Everything you need to control on the ooma is done over your homepage at ooma.com. If the price for the Ooma came down a bit more, hands down the choice to go with. Obi at $30... hard to beat, unless google voice starts charging. $100 for the ooma is a really good deal.

thank you for your input. Is Obi 202 simpler to setup and is the voice quality good without calls dropping etc (which is what I see on the Obi 101 forums)... If i want to make this as my main phone, i can't have calls dropping when on calls... so trying to determine real practical experience.
other than the initial one time cost (and the monthly tax etc), what are your risks with Ooma ? If they go out of business like SunRocket.. ?

Ooma is great. What put me over the top on it was the rating it got from consumer report. I think it finished number 1 among all voip devices, including Vonage. So with that said, I do not believe there is much worry about the company going belly up. The device also doesn't drop calls unless your internet drops. No additional costs unless you want the premium features like free calling to Canada and discount calling to other international companies and enhance voice mail and a few other cool features. I know about the work around to port your number to Google voice but having ooma do it is so much easier. Been pretty reliable up to this point (6 months). I think it has somewhere around 2,000 reviews on amazon alone with a 4.5/5 star rating. you also get a person when you call into customer service which is nice. I'm not sure if you get that with obi. hope that helps.

I have been using Ooma for 3 years now and NEVER had a single issue with it. NO dropped calls (unless internet goes down of course).
