Meant to save here comparing with Amazon :)

DrSandbags 01-14-2013 12:54 PM

I bought this about 6 months ago. It worked really well sticking to my windshield, even though I don't use it that often. Once it got below freezing, though, it became unstuck and it hasn't easily stuck back on. However, considering I don't use it that often, I haven't really tried to hard to re-secure it.

hinsdale1 01-14-2013 12:59 PM

Anybody know if will fit a Nexus 7 (7" tablet)?

Great for making Russian car-crash compilations to put on youtube, although you may not live to bask in the glory of your youtube fame...

I have a different iOttie with the adjustable arm, but it would NOT fit a Nexus 7. The biggest would maybe be a Note/Note 2.

I dont think so, max out at 3.2" in width. A Samsung Note 2 is the max you can go

ryocho 01-14-2013 01:13 PM

OP your amazon comparison link is not right. The Amazon one is the new version and Meritline is selling the old one.

dohcivtec 01-14-2013 01:14 PM

Just FYI. This barely fits my Note 2 with a case. It would fit the note snugly without the case...but barely.

oghowie 01-14-2013 01:22 PM

I'd go with the iOttie One Touch instead. Much easier to get in and out with one hand.

Good review on Amazon [amazon.com]

This thing is crap! The phone you put on it won't really stay still in the same spot, it is just not strong enough to support the weight of the phone.

darktemplar 01-14-2013 01:32 PM

I bought this from meritline from the last sale. I say it works for the price. The phone will jiggle around a bit if your are on a bumpy road... not sure how that compares to other car mounts (first car mount ever)

It barely fits a galaxy s3. It feels like you have to max out the distance of the arm in order to fit the device. There is some extra space of course but fitting the phone is a bit difficult. I guess its good for any phone that is the same size or smaller than the s3.
I can't comment on the sticky suction cup as I only had to reposition it a few times. Still working perfectly. Yes, it is sticky AND a suction cup. I have a feeling its more sticky than suction just by looking at the locking mechanism.

Is this product really that good? I don't understand the positive 12 or so for a car mount? It better be really good for this price and this number of thumbs up.

icemule1 01-14-2013 01:48 PM

I bought this when it was on sale at Newegg a month or so ago and it would not stick to any surfaces in my 2007 Corolla.

So it can basically fit 99.8% android phones?

uscpsycho 01-14-2013 01:52 PM

Not sure if I used this specific model but I used two others that looked very similar. They hold the phone well but they were nearly useless while driving due to vibration. In a nice luxury car, not a bumpy rice rocket.

I think this sits so close to the windshield that there's hardly any dampening. So the tiniest vibration is transfered to the hone which makes it nearly impossible to use while driving.

I have used others where there is a stem and there almost no vibration transfer to the phone so it is perfectly readable while driving.

vpoet 01-14-2013 01:53 PM

FYI, Meritline has an identical unbranded model for $6.99: http://www.meritline.com/showprod...ctID=95194

I bought 2 of the unbranded ones for our cars, and they work perfectly. Even came with the dashboard attachment.

This has been my exact experience as well, and I'm only trying to have it hold an iPhone 4S, which isn't all that big and heavy. Also, while it's easy to get the phone into the iOttie, I find it rather difficult to remove.

guest2011 01-14-2013 01:54 PM

disposable ebay crap bought one and made a phone holder for a mini tripod. horrible design, very tight. i had to open it, shorten and stretch the spring.

apatel87 01-14-2013 01:56 PM

I'm not sure if its not working on my iPhone but I am not able to add it to my cart. It keeps saying nothing in cart

Ignatz 01-14-2013 02:00 PM

If this one sucks, who can recommend a good one. I'd like to use one of these for recording my driving, etc.

ryocho 01-14-2013 02:05 PM

For those of you that are complaining about it not holding up the weight of your phone, you can tighten the grip at the ball joint by tightening the 2 screws with a screwdriver.

But yeah, the iOttie one touch (or even the easy flex2) are much better than this rebranded generic mount.

wildta 01-14-2013 02:20 PM

I have one that fits my Note 2 but barely. It's really hard to put my N2 in it because the spring mechanism is almost maxed out and pretty hard to stretch out with just one hand. It's pretty much worthless for the Note 2 IMO.

Without a case the Note 2 fits, but barely as well. I have about 1/16" extra gap when the iOttie is fully expanded.

The problem is that with my Otterbox on it I have to really jam it in there to make it fit. It won't sit flat in there with the case on. If it were a cold morning I'd fear placing the phone in there for it would probably break the mount.

The suction pad is super sticky. If it falls off, clean it with warm water and reapply.

It has zero reach on it. If you have a deep dash it could be hard to reach.

I'll still give it a thumbs up. I paid $10 for it a few weeks ago from Meritline as well.

puddnhead 01-14-2013 02:40 PM

I can't believe THIS crap, at THIS price, made FP at SD. It is not only crap, but it is crap that is only $3 less than you can buy it elsewhere.

I notice it's a meritline deal though, not a coincidence I suspect. SD always gives meritline mediocre/crap deals FP status. Please god, whatever you do, don't bring the firestarter thing back!!!

the nexus 7 is great to use as a GPS, esp if tethered. I'd also get a car holder for mine if I could find one. Maybe we think more creatively than you :)

1wondershow 01-14-2013 02:47 PM

I have a droid charge with the extended battery I'm wondering if this would fit it. The last thing I bought like this won't hold my phone because of the extra depth from the extended battery.

Nope, not coming out this month, according to Mountek's facebook page

"New Product Announcement: Mountek's nGroove 6000 will be made available for advance purchase on 02.15.2013. This initial version will be compatible with most Garmin nuvi and StreetPilot GPS devices. We are also very pleased and proud to announce that we are manufacturing it here, in the USA! But what about the long awaited tablet version? Stay tuned... We'll be launching a public campaign soon...."

Sounds like the tablet version won't be out till at least march or later.

It seems like it's basically the same product minus the branding.

The IOTTIE ones are the best suction mounts, so it's unlikely you'll run into the same issue. The surface is a soft/gel like material instead of some plasticky rubber.

Yeah sounds pretty cool when you think about it i guess. Is it just me or are the gps getting slower detecting satellites nowadays? Even when i updated my garmin to 2012..that and my galaxy nexus takes so long to detect a satellite to start the navigation. Farking ridiculous. I wonder if i'm the only one.

Slickdeezee 01-14-2013 05:19 PM

I've never used a suction cup mount which didn't eventually loose its grip and fall off at some point, I'm gonna pass on this. CD mount or vent mount would be more reliable than a suction cup.

mao18 01-14-2013 05:36 PM

I personally went with the Arkon Universal Removable Swivel Air Vent Mount with Mega Grip Holder [amazon.com] since I prefer vent mounts where practical.

patrick1853 01-14-2013 06:40 PM

Though not nearly as low profile, I have been using this one from meritline for a couple months with no complaints. Also, per the reviews it will hold a nexus 7.

It feels cheap compared to a garmin GPS mount, but it's $4...

I'm still tempted to pick one o the iottie ones up, just for the low profile. I'd like something to reliably stick to the dash board though.

I third the sentiment that this mount is not worth it. I got three for our various cars due to the low price and the high ratings.

Mount 1: failed due to warped tightener. It created a loose seal and the mount kept falling from the windshield. I-ottie (via Amazon) replaced that one.

Mount 2 and 3: on the clamps holding our S3s/iphones, the rubber cushioners quickly moved all over the place and eventually got stuck on our phones or fell off the mount. The rubber cushioner pads are attached through some sort of semi-weak adhesive. Ultimately, we were left with a mount without necessary padding to keep the phone securely in place. Also, if your charger wire is a bit taut from the lighter/adapter, it will pull the phone and mount quite a bit. The mount is not strong enough on its own.

Iottie did not honor the 2nd mounts problems, and Amazon refunded our money. When the 3rd mount failed, we just gave up. Interestingly, the stickiness to the windshield were not the main problems. It was the failure of the rubber pads in the clamps that caused the major fail for these mounts. We ended up testing a few more mounts and ended up picking 3 seidios--which are a bit pricer but strong and worth it. Not perfect (the clickety nature of the rotation mechansim requires careful placement to get your mount perfectly horizontal), but worth it.

opowello 01-14-2013 08:00 PM

Another +1 for the iOttie One Touch. I have been using it for a few months now and it works great with my iPhone 5. The suction is great, you can twist and turn it is all directions, and the best part is the open/close via the One Touch button.

FWIW, I had this mount and it was total crap. Suction sucked and kept falling off of my windshield.

I have an iPhone 4S with a Speck Candyshell Case and a 2007 Honda Civic Ex Sedan.

Spent the extra money on a better one on eBay.

Yeah, don't buy the real cheap <$5 ebay mounts like I did, unless you want something that will only keep suction for 5 days.

Inextricable 01-14-2013 10:22 PM

I bought this back in the summer when it was 100+ out here in California. It was good for 2 days and then I found it on the ground. The suction is not very good at all. Also the hinges or the mechanism that rotates started to droop when I would try to position it upward. Wouldnt hold my iphone upright after a day or so. I would not recommend this product at all.

Awesome! I just happened to order this last night, and for some reason, it shipped one day with Prime. I'll get it today.

I'm all about saving money, but spending 10-15 dollars on chaper mounts, only to have them last a short time, is not a smart decision. Also, I need it to be safe enough to hold my $600 investment properly and securely.

That's probably true, but I'm too chicken to try it! :bounce: I never use my CD player anyway.

I paid $10 for it a few weeks ago from Meritline as well.

thx will pass

I bought this one awhile ago from Amazon. It's pretty good during the warmer months, but during the winter the suction cup isn't so good, tends to fall off of my windshield. I've bought the newer version [amazon.com] with a much "stickier" suction cup and it seems to perform much better.

If you don't live in a super cold climate (or you just get the suction cup to perform better than me) this is a great buy!

Bought the iOttie One-Touch from Amazon based on good reviews even though it cost a few a little more http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007FHX9OK

Works great, But first quick attempt to get it off of the window to move it to my car and It wouldn't Budge...even after releasing the lever and trying to pull the tab....so um...works great lol
