Pretty neat - didn't even know something like this existed. Nothing I hate more than a iphone charger that breaks after a month of normal use so I tried to search reviews but found very little other than Fry's is selling this for $39. The braided cable looks like a solid touch - worth a shot at $8 I suppose. Thanks!

Also, I read on the Fry's website that this also includes a micro/mini usb connect so it will also charge nearly every smart phone out there. See for yourself!

the filter part of it might help reducing humming sound or you could just buy something like if you are not using a apple product

Anyone know if they make one for the iPhone 5?

tenslaedkcils 01-15-2013 05:49 AM

This is a much better deal than a bluetooth adapter because you are plugging in your phone to charge anyway, he 3.5 is built in and is a much better quality streaming.
I dont see one for iphone 5 anywhere online, there arent too many real accessories out there for it.
Cant go wrong.

fiftythreefly 01-15-2013 07:16 AM

saw this on edealinfo and seems to be a better option than my fm modulator with built in charger. no more static or having 2 separate cables plugged in

e3NiNe 01-15-2013 07:54 AM

There's a pretty bad design flaw in this product.

You're only supposed to charge your iDevices when the battery is low. By doing partial charges, you kill the battery over a shorter amount of time.

There's no way to not charge and listen.

So, to listen to your iDevice, you always have to charge it ... no matter how long the drive. (5 minutes, 10 hours, etc)

shashipramod 01-15-2013 07:58 AM

But i challenge that nobdy can get the same type of product in this price... its very useful ll and full of features.

Uhm... dude. No one is stopping you from pulling it out of the cig lighter socket and just using audio.

Besides, are you sure your info is right? At least with MacBooks the more regularly you charge it and use the charge, the longer it is supposed to last, it prefers a constant flow of some charging some discharging

You sure it works like that?

Is there an audio only pass through on the 30pin connector?

This is incorrect.

Lithium batteries are perfectly happy with partial charges.

Not true. They go into trickle charge....100% = one charge cycle, whether one complete charge or multiple partial charges.

Yes -- the 30 pin is superior audio quality to the headphone jack when you hook up external amplification, because the 30 pin can do proper LINE OUT. I usually use a Fiio L9 to Fiio E17 headphone amplifier with my iPhone in my pocket for portable use and superior audio quality, so I have a lot of experience with the LINE OUT.

and isn't the sound quality lower if audio is coming out of the ipod/iphone 3.5mm jack? ^what the above post said lol
now im tempted to buy another one!

This design is not unique to this device. Pretty much any car that has integrated iOS device support will charge it while playing music except for bluetooth option. Partial charges don't kill battery, complete charge diminishes it slightly*. The only way partial charges can decrease your battery life is because of heat, playing music form a charging iOS device will produce more heat than playing music from an "un-charging" iOS device

Does anyone know how long they take to ship? I have a trip on the 25th and was wondering if it'll get here in time.

superfan86 01-15-2013 08:23 AM

Sprung for this. Seems like a good deal for a certified charger and it's nice to eliminate the annoying dual cables from the car.

Thanks OP, TU.

I used to think the same, turns out that info is incorrect.. read this:
http://batteryuniversity.com/lear..._batteries

Basically, you're better off keeping any product with lithium batteries fully charged all the time. Every so often let it discharge completely and charge it back up to full to maintain it.

Anyone have any suggestions for a decent car charger for an iPhone 5? TIA

m0n0xIDE 01-15-2013 08:51 AM

Interested in this - any reason why it doesn't list Iphone 4S as compatible? Thinking this might be a good way to integrate music and gps into my car at once. I'm also wondering if this would integrate well with the Iottie car mount...

thedealbuddy 01-15-2013 08:52 AM

You can buy a cheap iphone 5 adapter on ebay and just leave it on the charger.

nilk 01-15-2013 08:53 AM

I currently use a hacked together solution that does the same thing as this:
  • I have an old iPhone dock (for the 1st-gen iPhone)
  • I send the audio out from the dock to my car stereo aux port
  • Dock is connected to a car charger
  • I have an iPhone/iPod extension cable that plugs into dock that I then connect my iPhone 4S to

This works brilliantly. Only have one connection to make to both charge and send audio out. The audio is sent out as a line out, so there is no volume control on the iPhone, which is good because I don't have to worry about finding the right volume for the best audio quality.

Sounds like this does the same thing and I think that is worth $8. I wonder if the noise filter does any good. I would buy this myself to replace my somewhat kludgy solution that is a bit of a mess of wires, but I'm planning to go Bluetooth sometime soon. Proper Bluetooth (with A2DP) is much better than this, but that costs a lot more than $8.

Edit: BTW, I've been using my solution for a year with my iPhone 4S, and have not noticed any issues with the battery. I dont' think frequent charging is a problem.

jimbeau 01-15-2013 08:56 AM

I checked ebay

But, I would like something that I can keep in the car. I don't want to use the same wire at home and in the car. Also, I hate to rely on a cheapo charger for my IPhone.

Yes I had a problem with chrome. To solve it, click the paypal radio button...

then go to the address bar and hit enter so the page reloads. It will magically go to paypal. Not sure why that worked, but it did.

Tried this in Chrome, didn't seem to work, so I tried checking out with Firefox. Again PayPal didn't work but using your trick it somehow did, thanks.

This was only the case in very early devices (early 2000's) which used NiCad Battery (Nickel cadmium). These are the batteries which are effected by "battery memory" or "lazy battery effect".

Newer devices use LiPo batteries (Lithium Polymer) which are unaffected by this and actually hold charge better when charged regularly.

Bridey 01-15-2013 02:27 PM

This maybe really dumb, but how do I know if this will work with my car? I have just the factory statio and obviously no iPhone jack. I've been trying to figure out the best way to play music through my car speakers. I know there is the casset adapter thing but if this would work it sounds better.

shashipramod 01-15-2013 02:30 PM

its works with all the iPhone and Ipod Models...

Yes it should, in fact amazon reviews for a similar product (kensington) say if you replace the usb with a lightning connector it will even work with 5, which is great

EDIT: nevermind this one doesnt have the replaceable USB

Yes, like a home theater. The filter is magic. Seriously though, open up the filter. The wire just loops once around a magnet. It works, but you could literally make one of these using a fridge magnet and tape. You can buy these filters on monoprice for less than a dollar.

Home theater.:lmao: I don't even buy stuff, I just come here for the comments.:lmao:

Pretty smart setup. Now just need to find a place to put the dock... I currently use a split cable that I assume is similar to the Haier product bought off eBay for cheap. Works pretty well except the 30-pin connector is tough to connect to the phone with a case on, depending on the case.

i think you may have to put the phone into a different usb mode. i have the same phone but don't have usb in my car to try it. but that's how it works when you plug it into the computer you need to tell it it's a media drive so it'll read the right folder structure.

i would assume it would be the same way with a car, maybe someone else can chime in.

Yes, you're right. I'm pretty sure I have to put it into mass storage mode but the S3 doesn't let you do that without rooting yet. I rooted and still can't figure it out.

Got it yesterday. Great quality, retail product. Used it this morning, worked and looked good. This is for Iphone 4s, clean sound while charging, in the past when I used a charger and the 3.5 plug from Iphone to the car there was humming, however with this the sound was clear with phone being charges. I was listening to Pandora this am while phone being charged. Overall nice product!
