The Editor's Choice (EC) $5 coupons were given out with certain (all?) Amazon digital download game purchases in between 11/16/12 and 12/31/12. Every time you made a valid purchase, you received an email from Amazon about earning a coupon for use in Jan, 2013 towards titles included in their Editor's Choice. The general consensus seems to be you have to count up those emails to figure out how many coupons you have. Some people have reported success in contacting Amazon Customer Service to find out how many they have left. The coupons/credits are NOT TRANSFERABLE to another account.

Wow, very nice, would definitely be in for the arcade game bundle for $5, would they activate on steam?

flyingvee 01-15-2013 12:01 PM

I must be missing something. All games still appear to be full price.

You're missing the part where the date that the sale goes live is unknown.

Amazon DVG reps usually give a heads up on upcoming sales.

johnked6 01-15-2013 12:02 PM

I'm definitely down for Mark of the Ninja @ $3.74.

Br0wNb0y 01-15-2013 12:03 PM

Nice, in for Mark of the Ninja if it is on steam.

No reason to apologize, here's hoping the $5 arcade bundle comes true!

Kardon86 01-15-2013 12:15 PM

I have a feeling I am going to miss this deal since there is no date, unless it gets reposted or makes front page.

mirai 01-15-2013 12:26 PM

Will get any game in this deal that is live enabled to boost my gamerscore:)

thanks for the HU

blockhead 01-15-2013 12:31 PM

Figures since I bought both Deadlight and Mark of the Ninja for $7.49/each during the Steam sale. Oh well, I guess I'm due for some buyer's remorse.

DeathDream 01-15-2013 12:44 PM

Some good games there!

I bet it gets reposted, but good chance its ignored.

Make a deal alert for microsoft arcade or Mark of the Ninja or something.

HR1 01-15-2013 01:24 PM

You didn't overpay for either of those games at $8 each.....at $4 each its highway robbery, both are excellent side scrollers. Mark of the Ninja in particular has replayability, less so for Deadlight but its a great ride at $10, and a must have at $4.

NJMaster 01-15-2013 01:31 PM

Both the Fable bundle and Arcade Style bundle sounds excellent for $5 AC. Another set of games to add to my STEAM collection I will never play.

nico07 01-15-2013 02:07 PM

Would Fable likely qualify for the additional $5 off Amazon best of 2012 deal? At $12.49 it's a great deal, at $7.50 it's a steal.

Ohhh man, definitely in to the Arcade bundle. I'd probably want that over the 2K Shooter Pack for $5 I used by last coupon on, buuut the bundle's still killer for $10.

"A bundle of the Arcade Style games (Deadlight/ITSP/Iron Brigade/Mark of the Ninja/Toy Soldiers) will be $9.99 and LIKELY on the EC list" (making it $5 after coupon)

"The Fable Bundle (Fable Lost Chapters + Fable III + FIII DLC) will also be $9.99 and likely on the EC list" (making it $5 after coupon)
Looks like the deal you are hoping for can get a whole lot better!

I really do hope that they will add these to the editor's choice list [amazon.com] and at these prices. It will almost make up for them "running out of" Max Payne 3 keys a couple of weeks ago. OP, how or where did you hear about these deals? I'm just curious if there's some kind of emailing list or something or did you see this posted on a gamer's site.

I wouldnt mind Mark of the Ninja and lol after getting AoE3 for $0.10 on GFWL Marketplace so many years ago...I would never pay more. lol. Game is alright but lol meh.

AOE 3 Complete (not downloable) on sale for $18.99 now on Amazon

I too am interested in trying out AOE 3 and just saw that the complete version is now only $18.99 on amazon which isn't too bad if you have prime and don't want to wait for the Microsoft deal. $9.99 would be much better but in-case the deal doesn't happen this seems to be a good price...

Steam had AOE3 for $9.99 throughout the Holiday sale. It may return to that price point for valentine day sale.

ROKET 01-18-2013 02:12 PM

They have a V-Day sale...well now. I keep forgetting. The Winter sale was SO bad. Same games as before and same old prices too. The THQ deals were good but you hardly saw many other good ones. I get the feel all those same sales are going to repeat over the weeks in 2's every Tuesday and Thursday. I mean look on Steam now - Anno 2070 for the Winter Sale price. Still wondering if I should but it but hey - they're coming back around.

They said they didn't know when it'd start, but it'd probably be sometime this month. Annnd that there's a 20% chance it won't happen at all. I'm still getting antsy though, this would be a sick deal if it goes through.

Not to derail this thread... but...

I give thumbs up when I appreciate someone pulling together good information to inform us slickdealers. If it's good info, I feel like people should have it hit their deal notifications... to notify them.

Think about it this way, what if you were thinking about buying some of these titles from other vendors for (potentially) higher prices... wouldn't you want to know about this deal being in the works, at least to keep an eye on it? I think TU for information is a good policy, but you are of course free to use your TUs for whatever you want.

As for rep (separate thing), I give rep when someone has posted something that I bought or a great deal that I would not have noticed were it not for their post. If another user has been extremely helpful with a comment, I may give rep to them as well, if it is "above and beyond" the value of a comment that I would normally expect.

OK that's the last I'll post off-topic, rest of my posts on-topic. Hoping these deals still happen!

Krakn3Dfx 01-21-2013 01:24 PM

My favorite part of any good thread is when an argument breaks out. To all involved: Thank you for your continuing efforts to entertain me.

JoMo23 01-21-2013 01:27 PM

I'm not sure this deal will happen. That Amazon rep was told "sounds good" by someone at Microsoft when a deal was pitched to him. He was probably just trying to get rid of the Amazon rep.

RyanL 01-21-2013 02:36 PM

I think the "thumbs up" are warranted. Thanks, OP!

Obviously you don't understand the meaning of thumbs up either. I never mentioned anything about "rep" being able to replicate the deal. If you appreciate the OP posting this "deal", then go ahead a rep the guy (I don't have a single problem with that). It's when a whole bunch of people go around thumbing up deals when they're not even legitimate deals (under one of the conditions for thumbs up is the ability to replicate deals at the prices represented by the poster). It's especially gotten out of control lately on SD (I suspect that it's mostly newbs) thumbing up deals that don't really deserve it. I see it way too often on extreme YMMV B&M deals where only 3 people across the country are able to cash in on it. Scores of SDers come to the thread seeing dozens of thumbs up believing that it's a trustworthy posting so they rush out to the store only to waste their time and gas. I know that this is not the same scenario, but it still wastes people's time. People post deals in advance all the time, but they usually have the date and time of when it's going to be active and most importantly, the deal comes from an email newsletter or an inside source. This one sounds more like hearsay to me which is why I was asking where the OP heard about this. Don't get me wrong, I want this deal just as much as everyone else here (I have a handful of those $5 credits and want these titles), but the OP should've either posted this in deal talk or better yet just waited until the deal was active to post. If you're worried about "missing" this deal if it ever goes live, I seriously doubt that anyone will since these games at these prices will easily go front page.

nvm, irrelevant in first place since deal is not live(nobody got the deal yet, meaning no "replication")

also, "could not replicate deal" is probably for when op claims the deal is up, but it is not working.

you are probably talking about the "i bought this" button, not thumbs up

greenjelly01 01-22-2013 09:20 AM

Nice debate. I can understand the angst felt with the slow realization that a deal as juicy as this is just too good to be true.

Btw, a presently unnamed entity has now marked the deal as "bought", possibly just to mess with your heads.

To me this thread is the same as any that goes live and then falls through. I can recall one months ago for a TomTom Top Gear edition that went live and then fell through because of the pricing mistake. I purchased it and was refunded. There were pages upon pages of grumbling about how unfair it was. For me offers like this based on some reputable information are as relevant as the price mistakes that sometimes work and sometimes don't. That is what makes Slickdeals different than other sites is that deals are posted as information is known. I've picked up several deals that were obviously pricing mistakes and were corrected shortly after my order had gone through. Here's hoping this deal goes through. And yes, I enjoy a good argument as well. :)

CyberAthlete 01-23-2013 09:43 AM

In for Deadlight and MotN at $3.74 each.

tannersarms 01-23-2013 12:46 PM

Latest on this deal from Tony today:

Quote:

Also update on MSFT, we just sent an email that basically reads: "Hey guys, we need to hear back tomorrow or we can't run the deal next week".

Insomniac34 01-23-2013 01:02 PM

I've lost all hope that this deal will happen during January to take advantage of the Editor's Choice coupons. Pretty ridiculous that Microsoft can't be bothered to respond to Tony's requests regarding whether or not Amazon can push through with the offer. It shouldn't take 8 days for them to confirm the pricing.

Having said that, even if the bundle takes place next month and can't be used with Editor's Choice coupons, it would still absolutely be an instant buy.

The deals have been confirmed!
From Tony, an Amazon rep:
"Everything was approved the only thing that changed was Age of Empires being added to the EC list at $9.99 pre coupon"
The bundles will run from this coming up Sunday through Saturday(27th January until the 31st, when the coupons will most likely not work anymore, but the bundles will still be on sale until the 2nd)
The Fable bundle might be delayed a bit, as they didn't get the steam keys for the DLCs yet. But the other ones look to be on time.

The bundles will run from this coming up Sunday through Saturday

So that means from the 27th of January through the 2nd of February? AWESOME SAUCE!

I just need me a link to the FABLE bundle :happy dance:

The Fable bundle might be delayed a bit, as they didn't get the steam keys for the DLCs yet. But the other ones look to be on time.

Good find.

You had to have bought a digital download PC game sometime in Nov-December. You can't get one now unless you have a time machine as the coupon is tied to your account and can't be traded. The only way you could feasibly get a discount is to beg someone who has a code to buy it for you.

greenjelly01 01-24-2013 03:24 PM

damn... I just bought AoE III on the steam sale for $10... coulda' saved $5 with the ECC.
Between this and the THQ deals, I've lost a lot of money I could've saved... on a lot of games I haven't even installed yet...

bobbyg27 01-24-2013 03:48 PM

Man is that arcade package gonna be $5 with EC????? Insta buy. I already have MotN on Xbox... maybe I'll give that code to a friend.

In the middle of this thread there is a discussion on whether "possible but unconfirmed" deals should be posted in the "Hot Deals" section here on SD. There were a few people that thought since they were unable to have that deal at that moment in time that it qualified for a "Unable to replicate deal" thumbs down. I see their point, but I still think this was good information.

firebirdx01 01-25-2013 09:57 AM

My body is ready.

The arcade pack finally has a link (it didnt when this was first posted) so I will bet that this is real- everyone be patient and thumbs it up.

Got it, so the downvotes represent folks who don't want advance notice for deals. Thanks for the answer :), repped.

I was the main one commenting on all the thumbs up, but never gave it a thumbs down either. Like I mentioned before there's plenty of deals posted in advance, but this one didn't have a date, time, exactly what games it was going to have, or even a certainty of whether or not it will happen (the original post originally stated that there was an 80% chance that this deal would go down and wasn't sure if these would be on the editor's choice list). The fact that these games aren't on the editor's choice list yet has me a little worried and the dates listed might exclude some of these from eligibility for using the $5/off coupon (only good for the month of January). Is Amazon putting these all up at once or are they gonna do one a day for several days? If this deal does come to fruition then you bet your ass that I'll be back to thumb it up. Spread as many repps around as you like, but way too many SDers thumb up deals without even checking to see if the deal is valid these days. That's what my main beef was.

And how did they do that and what did they check exactly? Did they know reps from GFWL or Amazon to get in contact with? Oh wait, they must've used their time machines to go to the end of the month. Now why didn't I just think of that? The original posting sounded like it was based on little more than hearsay. A lot seems to still be up in air such as the Fable III deal which may or may not happen in time (that's the standout/highlight IMO; it's been on sale a couple of times, but was ~$25 I believe). While a few of the others are fairly new releases, they're more or less indie titles that I would expect to see on something like the next humble bundle or indie royal. The microsoft bundle seems to be the one that everyone's after, but the OP clearly stated previously that it would not be included in the Editor's Choice list (that seemed like it was the only thing he was sure of in his original post). Whether that's changed or not, IDK. Many people seem to think so, but that was never officially mentioned. Maybe if you could see the original post you would feel differently, but there's too many variables at play for me to thumb up this deal (I will when and if it goes live). I guess we'll see what happens tomorrow.

I never once said that the bundles would not be on the EC list, I said the INDIVIDUAL titles would not.

Also: Source: Amazon DVG. All info comes FROM an amazon rep. How much more of an official source would you like?

I'm sorry if I misunderstood your original post, but it seemed like you had it the other way around; I believe you had the individual games listed with their projected sale prices minus the $5 coupon. For example I think you had Fable III for something like $12.49-$5=$7.49. At any event, there's no point in arguing about it since your first post is cleaned up now with links and pricing to everything.

And as for as an official source, I don't take what a rep mentions on a forum as gospel and most importantly it still needed to be "approved" by microshaft at the time. You did and ran with it, but I didn't have too much of a problem with that aspect of it. It's just when everyone feels that they need to thumb up everything under the sun whether or not it's a valid deal with a solid chance of scoring (which it wasn't at the time). You even stated originally that there was an 80% chance that this deal would happen and wasn't sure if they would be included on the EC list or not. For instance, can you guaranty with certainty that all of these deals will go down as stated (especially the Fable III bundle)? I bet that you don't want to take that bet. It's all still a bit on the YMMV side of things if you ask me.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm attacking you now as I always come to this forum with the best intentions, but I'm just trying to make a point about something. Throwing reps your way is a good way to show appreciation for the heads up, not giving deals thumbs up without merit. When I came back to this thread a week ago and saw a couple dozen thumbs up, I thought for sure that this deal went live. Checked the EC list and thought "Well, where the hell are they?". Looked at the individual games on Amazon, but they were still full price. I should've known that the newbs were at it again. It only wasted a couple minutes of my time, but it's just the principal of the whole thing. I mentioned this before, but it's the same sort of thing that sends droves of SDers out the door chasing fantasy (or should I say phantom) YMMV deals only because the deal was falsely misrepresented by way too many thumbs up. I don't know if I'm a minority on the issue or not but I know that I'm not alone because I received a few reps from others saying that they were in agreement.

It's funny that you feel that way. personally, I feel that there are too many, way too many people on SD who are more than willing to Thumbs Down a deal than they would be to TU a deal. I've seen people multiple people TD a $1 Humble Bundle thread as "Not A Good Price". It just makes me :shake:

I'd like to see a system introduced where if you're going to TD you have to be dropping a few TU here and there.

But ultimately if the deal is good and valid then the thumbs up will prevail. I agree with what you're saying; it should be a balanced system.

Mark of the Ninja for PC $3.75 (Amazon)

I know there's a bundle with a few other games for $9.99, but I think this is a great deal for people who's just interested in Mark of the Ninja. I wasn't too fond of the other games in the bundle.

The game is a really good deal. At first the keys would show but it started bugging out and iron brigade would not show.
I found that logging out and logging back in got my keys to show. Just wanted to share.

Fable 3 has 2 versions, the Steam DRM and the GFW DRM. both are at discounted price. as i'm not sure if the Steam version is live enabled (i.e., have achievements), i got the GFW version.

The discount is tied to the person's Amazon account. It can't be used by others.

^ I figured that, but why would you prefer to buy the Steam version over the regular one? Just so that your friends can be notified what game your playing? It's to my understanding that you NEED an internet connection every so often to verify that your game is "yours" when you're using Steam.... seems like a big downside.

(Also, where do we get this "EC coupon" that everyone keeps talking about?)

Individual keys for each game.

darkest4 01-27-2013 06:03 AM

Mark of the Ninja at that price is a great deal, I'm in.

JasonD18 01-27-2013 06:05 AM

Indie Bundle for $0!

($5 coupon and $5 left from an Amazon GC)

I have the EC coupon, however when I purchased the 5 game pack it wasn't applied... just an FYI, I had several of the EC coupons and they have all applied up to this point, I still think the games are worth the $10, but would like to hear from others if their EC coupons ARE working...

gymsock 01-27-2013 06:43 AM

In 4 Mark of the Ninja for $3.75

Since I'm out of $5 EC coupons and the other games in the $9.99 pack don't interest me, I'll skip the pack and save the $6.24 I would have wasted on those other 4 games(have a huge backlog right now) for another Amazon deal that might interest me more.
Thanks OP and :repped:

Blizzard101 01-27-2013 06:55 AM

ah, sucks I don't have a EC coupon, I don't have enough time to catch all these deals.

Anyone with a coupon want to purchase the bundle for me? I'm sure we can work something out because it'd just be nice to save 50% off

JasonH2752 01-27-2013 06:56 AM

Did anyone else get Age of Empires Collection free? I went to buy it and got two credits (one 7 cents and the other 9.9x) to make it absolutely free. For the pics or it didn't happen crowd: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/102934855/proof.jpg

jbonez21 01-27-2013 07:00 AM

Got the arcade bundle for free, had one EC coupon left, and got the free $5 credit on Friday for facebooking about some ford card. Thanks!

Are you sure you didn't just run out of coupons? The only way to know for certain is to email Amazon cs. The Promo credit tool on Amazon is off because it includes the value of all those f2p bundles. Guess the other way is to review your previous pcdd purchases from 11/16 to 12/31, assume each of those got $5, then review your purchases since 1/1 (specifically those that took $5 off).

staypuft13 01-27-2013 07:13 AM

Oh nice! I somehow had a $5 promo credit through Amazon, so this only cost me $4.99!

toolio20 01-27-2013 07:15 AM

WTH is the EC coupon?

Worked fine for me.

Howsabout you chumps clarify.

Yeah, there should be something in the first post to explain the Editor's Choice coupon, so that instead of hundreds of posts asking "What's the EC coupon?" cluttering up the thread we instead get hundreds of posts asking "Does anyone have a spare EC coupon?" cluttering up the thread.

EC = Editor's Choice. You earned one $5 coupon for every downloadable game you purchased from mid-November through 12/31, good during January for any downloadable game on the Editor's Choice 2012 list.

Renard 01-27-2013 07:32 AM

I guess I ran out of coupons... I thought I had a ton but I guess not. Oh well I don't really need more games :)

Scourge210 01-27-2013 07:44 AM

thanks OP i bought mark of the ninja :D

Yes, I purchased Max Payne, the Microsoft bundle and age of Empires! :)

You just need to check your account to see if you still have the monetary value in vouchers left. I believe that some were confused with the Air Mech and other incentives thrown in. I keep all of my emails to sort out a plan of attack later.

I don't think I've ever even let the chat box appear on my screen!

nolf66 01-27-2013 08:09 AM

Waiting on the Fable Bundle to go live. Picked up MS 5 pack x2 and AOE III x2, great deals.
Also got Hot line for free x2 the other day.

Halewafa 01-27-2013 08:11 AM

Does anyone know where to see how many EC coupons you have? I know for sure I have 1, but I might have 2... waiting for darksouls on the 31st, so if I only have 1 I won't get AoE. Thanks!

You cannot. The coupons are tied to your Amazon account, and only people who bought games from Amazon during a limited period of time received the coupon. That period of time is over, so it is not possible any more to get an EC coupon.

The only sure way is to count the number of EC coupons you have in your email or contacting Amazon customer support, but I'm not if they can even check how many you have with their system on their end.

destruct1214 01-27-2013 08:57 AM

Awesome deal for Mark of the Ninja at $3.75. Thanks for posting!

I just had to add how much I am enjoying the Amazon game express! Here we are, weeks after The winter sale, and Amazon is still taking Steam to the woodshed!

Rattor 01-27-2013 09:11 AM

Not yet, they were still waiting on keys for the DLC when it was last mentioned.

KathrineT 01-27-2013 09:30 AM

The best thing about this is each game has its own game code so I gave a few to my kids for their computer on their steam account.

Product Description

The Microsoft 5-Game Arcade Pack includes the following games:

DEADLIGHT
Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet
Iron Brigade
Mark of the Ninja
Toy Soldiers

Requires Steam Client to activate. Some also require a Windows Live account.

tzhu07 01-27-2013 09:48 AM

I've played through Mark of the Ninja and Deadlight. Those two games alone make the bundle worth it for only $5.

kens01 01-27-2013 09:58 AM

Total was 4.99 for all 5 games. AWESOME deal!

SpankN 01-27-2013 09:59 AM

Very nice deal! Thanks

Isn't that what the Wiki is for?

gb12345 01-27-2013 10:13 AM

Sorry for the dumb question. Is there a benefit of buying one download type over the other? Standard vs steam. Thanks.

I'd say just one of them is worth the 5 bucks. And then you get 4 games on top of that.

awu2 01-27-2013 10:34 AM

I have one more coupon after buying the MotN bundle. Anyone have an opinion whether AoE3 or Civ5 is the better game? Planning on using my coupon for one of those bundles, thanks!

ben_r_ 01-27-2013 10:36 AM

EC worked on the Arcade Bundle for me! $4.99! Awesome! Been wanting Deadlight.

bigmace 01-27-2013 10:43 AM

Hard to consider age of empires 3 a hot deal at $5 consider I purchased it from Microsoft for like $0.15 (10 Microsoft points) about a year ago.

Did that include the "WarChiefs" and "Asian Dynasties" expansions, and are you required to run the GFWL client every time you want to play?

ben_r_ 01-27-2013 10:59 AM

Looks like Max Payne 3 is $9.99 after the EC coupon too.

Being that most of us might not have a delorean, I would say that it is still a good deal for those of us that live in the present.

gorfyako 01-27-2013 11:38 AM

$1 per game. What an incredible deal, even though I'm really only interested in ITSP and Mark of Ninja. Either way, $2.50 for both is still an incredible deal.
