Looks like Citi is trying to copy Chase Freedom and Discovercard with their quarterly 5% cash back and is offering a version of their own. I received this email giving the offer but it could be targeted, so could be ymmv. Check your email to see if you have the same offer.

allmil 01-17-2013 10:46 AM

Nothing yet for me. I sure miss the 10% off at Amazon I got from them last month.

kaikaidragonz 01-17-2013 10:48 AM

savemybucks 01-17-2013 10:49 AM

I got it too but only for "Travel Purchases"

mrredskin 01-17-2013 10:51 AM

impsteven 01-17-2013 10:54 AM

Just enrolled my CitiForward card.

chuck4rooke 01-17-2013 10:55 AM

when are the discounted gift cards going to come back? They usually had a $50 for 4500 points once a month for different stores, but hasn't been anything in a while.

bdlsmo 01-17-2013 11:01 AM

2500 point max

gamma-13 01-17-2013 11:29 AM

yup, for 2 1/2 months, a 2500 point max is seems really small.

ynotgee 01-17-2013 11:44 AM

I haven't gotten any, is it because I unsubscribed from Citibank's promo/newsletter? I have the student CitiForward.

Yea, kinda small but if you have Freedom and other 5% cards, you can use the Citi for only the ones the other cards don't support currently.

Most likely. You elected to be left alone, so they are just complying with your request. ;)

jordanz12 01-17-2013 11:58 AM

I have the forward card and haven't seen anything yet. The 2,500 point cap totally sucks, cause those are good categories!

haroonie 01-17-2013 12:01 PM

What card do you have OP?

Got a letter the other day they're upgrading the citiforward to a signature visa. did everyone with a citiforward get this?

I have two citi forward cards and they just upgraded both of them a week or two ago.

dlmcdowell 01-17-2013 12:31 PM

I just got a new Citi Forward last week...

pezdukie 01-17-2013 12:36 PM

Enrolled on my card. Will probably just buy a $500 gas gift card with it since I have to use up my cap on my Freedom card this quarter

kaioho 01-17-2013 12:43 PM

Got it for everyday purchases =)

wint33 01-17-2013 12:53 PM

bunnyeric 01-17-2013 01:00 PM

I usually get around 10,000 points per month anyway. So I guess this promo wouldn't work for me, or do they give you an ADDITIONAL 2,500 points?

shackrock 01-17-2013 01:03 PM

My citi forward card gives me 5% on restaurants.

I got the email for:

groceries (matches my blue cash)
gas (matches my chase freedom)
drugstores (matches my chase freedom)
commuter expenses (i drive a car...so....big whoop).

Oh well. ha.

DoctorYoshi 01-17-2013 01:03 PM

Nothing for me yet. I have the 'thankyou Premier' card

isidrohong 01-17-2013 01:04 PM

Got the same promo email today and enroll right away. I did remember writing feedback on their survey and comments about falling short on the reward comparing with Chase freedom/Discover. 2500 points = $500 expense limit (mark that down to make the most of it):D

jonnyo95 01-17-2013 01:08 PM

I have the Citi Preferred card and I got the following email:

Get a head start on making this a more rewarding year with your Citi ThankYou® Card. Earn 10 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on purchases, including dining, entertainment, groceries, shopping, travel and so much more. Earn up to 2,500 additional points, through 03/31/13!*

Dimon1990 01-17-2013 01:38 PM

Got travel, sucks :(

Chauzer 01-17-2013 02:06 PM

:( Well when I had it on, they kept sending me e-mails daily. Which I'm using my email as personal for school and everything else not a spam mailbox.

Just enrolled in email promos, hopefully they will send me this offer.

Most people have 1, 2, 3... or 10 email addresses and use them for spam emails from companies. Sure, most of the time, the emails are useless but there are occasional times some junk mails become useful. And during those times, come to SD and see someone posts "check your email" deals and you'll be surprised what can be had. :D

lydenju 01-17-2013 04:35 PM

Anyone knows how to signup for their email promotions? Have a Forward card but never receive any email for promotion

bigtedshred 01-17-2013 04:46 PM

I didn't realize that it was different categories for people. I'm Citi Forward and got it for: grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores, commuter transportation expenses.

nw2this 01-17-2013 09:34 PM

Got it! Groceries and gas are my biggest expenses so I'm going to put this card back into rotation!

SpAcEmAn SpLiFF 01-17-2013 09:39 PM

Mine only applies to travel too. Lame

recklessmax 01-17-2013 09:42 PM

got the 5 thank you point offer today but its only limited to 2500 additional points
so around 625$ in purchases max..not such a great offer from citi

sammyonsd 01-18-2013 07:45 AM

I have diamond Preferred card, which is recently automatically converted to citi thankyou card. It offers 5x ty point up to 5000 pt until 3/31/2013. No categorical restriction. I guess it's just because they are discontinuing diamond card.

xiphosurus 01-18-2013 03:28 PM

Thanks! Found this email in my trash!

klingtop 01-18-2013 03:49 PM

I have a CitiForward card and got grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores, commuter transportation expenses.

inm8num2 01-18-2013 06:44 PM

This doesn't mean that the always 5x points on Restaurants/Entertainment/etc. for the Forward card is going away, does it?

Also got this offer last week. Already signed up!

RowdyReptile 04-09-2013 07:24 PM

I realize this thread is old, but I just got an offer in the mail for my Citi ThankYou card.

"Start earning 5 ThankYou Points per $1 spent on purchases, including dining, groceries, shopping, entertainment, travel, and so much more. Earn up to 2,500 additional points, through 06/30/2013"

It's only worth $25, but it's so easy since it applies to ALL purchases. I've never seen one like that.. it's always just certain categories. I could use it for groceries only and still hit that amount.

It's four bonus points per dollar, so it sounds to me like if you spend $625, you get 625 normal points plus 2500 bonus points.
