Amazon has the "Asus VE247H 24-Inch Full-HD LED Monitor with Integrated Speakers [amazon.com]" for $149.99 after $20 rebate.

Was $159 on 03/14/2012 but I don't think there was a rebate on that. That makes $149.99 most likely the lowest price ever on Amazon.

Rebate is through Asus.

Fantastic reviews. 4.5 stars with 64 Amazon reviews. For reference and comments at the egg- 4 stars with 421 reviews (63% with 5 stars) [newegg.com]

roadbratt 01-17-2013 01:26 PM

I have this at home and it's pretty bangin'

Twistedshade 01-17-2013 01:35 PM

Got two of these in my home office, would love to get two more. Saving money on this site is hard

geronimorex 01-17-2013 02:36 PM

Wow. If I hadn't bit on a Dell U2410 recently (at more than twice this price), I'd be all over this... dual displays would have been affordable with this. Whew!

True that! I've going to micro transaction myself into poverty. :omg:

hahahaha 01-17-2013 02:46 PM

How does it compare with the Dell refurbished one for $180?

tinymonkeyt 01-17-2013 02:47 PM

Is the only difference between this one and the other one that was on sale recently (and still is, I think) just integrated speakers? And if so, is it really worth the extra cash, however little, to spend on integrated speakers when I have/mostly use a headset?

arunningpir8 01-17-2013 03:07 PM

I loved the first two I bought. The third I got was completely washed out colors were muddy and horrible...ASUS must have changed panels because I tried buying 2 from amazon and 1 from newegg and finally gave up...so now I have 2 excellent older models, and one newer muddy one that no matter how much I tweak the color is STILL off from the other 2 monitors...but I guess I'd rather that for my triple monitor setup than have a completely different model so its whatever...I just think its screwed up companies can do this without a model/revision change...

jshriganesh 01-17-2013 03:09 PM

Good Deal!!!

ben_r_ 01-17-2013 03:16 PM

Does "Full-HD" mean its only 1080 pixels in the width? Im assuming so since its so cheap, but didnt see it in the quick glance I gave the description on Amazon.

There's a new rebate for this month. Just click on "get forms" rather than "rebate forms for recent purchases."

I know someone else answered with a let me google that for you... but yes it means it is only 180 pixels in height. (not width). Any time you see a monitor that claims it is HD or full HD that is basically what it means. Dissapoints me because I love 1920x1200 and 16:10 for gaming and productivity. (Actually looking at goign 1440 soon lol

No way! I want one of the korean pixel guarantee ips panels.

ejtt7ciia 01-17-2013 05:30 PM

These are phenomenal monitors. I've had 4 of them that I got a year and a half ago, and they have not disappointed!

However, I'm still not sure I'd pay $150 each for them. I happened to get them open box (though the boxes were new/sealed, with all accessories new and sealed) for a much better deal. Still, as for the monitor itself, assuming it's the same quality as what I've got, it's nice, great color, runs cool, and is energy efficient.

I know it's a different category, but just debating between saving money on this or spending an extra $130 or so for one of the korean numbers with the ultra resolution. any thoughts on that to help me out?

Mines already got delivered and there wasn't tax on that same monitor that I bought. The ones with the speakers will cost $10 more. I wanted to return it too for the ones with the speakers, but there's a 15% restocking fee.. I'll just find good speakers for cheap on SD.

nerdrage 01-18-2013 06:03 AM

So I just bought a 23" HP 2311Xi (ips) for 180. Sadly I am very ignorant about monitors, and would appreciate advice on which is better. I do game a bit a few hours a day. I haven't unboxed the HP yet in case I found something better so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: just saw others post this question. Sarcasm suggests that ips is way better lol. I guess I'll just use the 2311xi I bought.

kn9ght 01-18-2013 06:21 AM

Does it come with one-year warranty? 90-day warranty? I don't see it mention anywhere. Anyone?

I have this monitor, brother has the VS without speakers.. for our uses I would rather have his monitor

Should something happen to your ASUS monitor, rest assured, you're covered with a 3-year system and panel warranty to protect it from the unfortunate. For even greater convenience, one-of-a-kind ASUS Rapid Replacement cross-shipping sends you a replacement unit as soon as the defective unit is in the mail—shortening your waiting time.

Yes it's not an IPS monitor but it's a good one otherwise and the price is definitely great.

zeroxray 01-18-2013 06:50 AM

thinking aobut getting it and pairing it with my Dell SP2309W for a dual monitor setup. is that weird? a 24 and a 23 inch monitor with different resolutions? lol. any feedback appreciated!

juanmon 01-18-2013 07:11 AM

Got this one at home and love it. Really nice looking screen. I like monitors with integrated speakers because then i can plug my computers speakers into it instead of the computer. So it depends on your setup, but I like to have more options whenever possible. The speakers by themselves are not very good imo. I really like it, the whole thing feels solid. I had a 23" hanspree that felt really cheap in comparison.

junjun26 01-18-2013 07:14 AM

Do anyone know by chance if this will pair well with a VE248H?

They look exactly the same imho.

Got the VS247H-P the weekend between BF and Cyber Monday. Newegg had it for $140 - $20 rebate = $120. Pretty awesome monitor so far. I use it both with my Xbox 360 and as a 2nd monitor for my laptop (swapping the HDMI between the two). Has an audio port in the back so you can plug in speakers or headphones. Highly recommend it and would buy it again at the $140 price if I had to.

Supercharged 01-18-2013 09:33 AM

Panels with only 1080 vertical resolution really suck. You will constantly have to scroll up/down when working on documents and/or looking at web pages. Get a monitor with at least 1200 (or more!) of vertical resolution. It'll cost a bit more, but getting away from this super wide/squished trend is so worth it. Most monitor manufacturers have jumped on this band wagon due to the reduced costs to make these panels which garners them more profits, but it has really screwed up what we can see and interact with on screen.

dubleo 01-18-2013 10:06 AM

This is one reason why I don't trust user reviews much.

Every now and then there are IPS and VA panel monitors that go on sale for $140 or below but you probably don't own any of those.

It's a fact that IPS panel monitors have better viewing angles than TN panel monitors.

Most user reviews are written by people who don't sample enough monitors so their review can't be as accurate as it should be.

I own an 8 bit S-IPS panel 32' HDTV , a 6 bit e-IPS monitor , a 120 Hz TN monitor , etc.

One of my laptops use an IPS panel as well.

On the other hand, I don't usually sit off to one side, when viewing my TN panel. And IPS can introduce some issues of its own - besides the generally higher cost. I have seen some bad looking TN panels though, I think it pays to check out a monitor in person before buying. Also it is nice to buy from a place that allows no-charge return/exchange for any pixel issues. A stuck bright pixel in the middle of a screen can turn a slick deal into a non-slick deal real quick, lol.

I just purchased 24" ASUS VS247H-P 1080p LED Monitor at staples.com with 25$ off coupon
and price matched with Amazon with some difficulty.
Staple's web site doesn't say anything that the item is from 3rd party vendor but when i contacted them for price match they said they couldn't because it's the 3rd party vendor item.

I needed to talk to the manager to get it through.
I hope the rebate from Asus also will go through.

duramax08 01-18-2013 02:16 PM

We use the VE247H at my work. Ive probably deployed about 100 of em and out of that, only had one DOA. I even got a dual monitor setup at home with these monitors. It is also VESA mountable, I got one hovering over my mac as I type this.....

Monitor looks amazing so far doesn't look like any dead pixels either. Does anyone have some good tuning options? Theater mode looks like it has the nicest results for the games i've been playing.

TN panel plus rebate?

m-e-h

I posted a deal for a 24" 1080p A-MVA panel for $160 with no rebate and it didn't even make FP. VA has better contrast and better viewing angle.

shrimpsiumai 01-18-2013 02:52 PM

First front page deal for me.
You guys rock :)

Ordered mine from amazon on 1/16, and order status went almost immediately to "Shipping Soon".

It's 1/18, and still hasn't shipped.

Poo poo!

Having much more realistic colors can easily make up for backlight bleeding in dark scenes.

I've actually had more problems with TN panels than IPS panels.

The worst backlight bleeding I saw in person was from a TN panel ASUS monitor even though low end IPS panel displays tend to be more prone to backlight bleeding problems.

If you can afford a high end IPS panel ( generally $700) , I'd generally say it's worth it.
Professionals tend to use high end IPS and PLS displays and there are quite a few reasons for that.

I feel that putting $100+ to a TN panel monitor (unless it's 120 Hz) is a waste of money but that's because I can afford to put more money towards buying one that I'd be much happier with.
I have too many TN panel monitors already. The only one that I use now is the Asus VG278H since it runs at 120 Hz natively and supports 3D gaming and movies.

Unless i'm missing something it looks like the only difference is one has speaker's and one doesn't. I would get the VS247H-P it's cheaper and most people have their own set of speakers already.

hugoyuguosd 01-18-2013 08:30 PM

I got one from newegg, looks pretty good
more colorful than the expensive IPS 1920*1200 monitor used at work
black is not completely black, though

JailBreaker 01-18-2013 08:30 PM

:confused:Apart from speaker..is there any other difference between Asus VS247H-P & VE247H ??

Yeah, there's an extra "-P" in the model number.

Check the response time, I have the VS238H-P and it's 2MS response time. The VS238H (without the P) is a 5 MS response time. I'm guessing those are the differences. Any of these monitors are great for FPS gaming, in response to whoever asked about gaming above. Stay away from IPS panels for competitive FPS due to input lag. IPS panels have higher input lag than TN panels. This is why MLG (Major League Gaming) and other competitive gaming organizations all use TN panels at their events. This particular models predecessor was actually the official monitor of 2011 MLG events for Halo.

It's a good monitor.

Anyone familiar with Asus policies? I wanted to jump on this but I found a cheaper (used) one on CL. Will Asus still honor warranty claims even if I'm not the original buyer?

Doesn't every retailer in CA charge sales tax? Therefore how is this different?

I doubt the warranty would transfer. I had to enter a bunch of information when I registered mine including were I bought it, name and address.

So if the person bought it in September and didn't register it then I should be fine? Otherwise I'll just spring the extra $40 and get it from Amazon.
TIA

Amazon used to not charge tax in CA. Now, us Californians can only hope for the same price from a place like B&H Photo and some others.

Edit: Nevermind wrong thread, thought this was the other model

ronpainter 01-21-2013 06:56 AM

Not a great deal!

Probably as good or better than than any other TN monitor !
The devil is in the details! A quick glance down the chart suggest that it may be an IPS monitor. Too good to be true?? You bet! It is only select models (which this isn't) that are IPS panels.

I have been using Dell IPS monitors for a couple of years now and have been spoiled with them, particularly for color accuracy. Color accuracy is important to me for my photo work.

This offer looked to good to be true...

PTS21 01-21-2013 10:12 AM

Damn it. My VE247H just came in. Set it up and the damn thing doesn't look anywhere near as good or bright as my other VE247H that I bought six months back. I've been playing around for over an hour. Simply can't get white to look like white on the newest monitor. It has a dull yellow tint to it.

Additionally, the monitor's GUI is different than my original. Same model, same revision, same version. Only difference is the manufactured date.

Anyone experiencing the same problems?

SkrolZ 01-21-2013 02:32 PM

This is my first time posting on SD EVAR, and it's because I wanted to warn people about these monitors.

I had an old BenQ 24". I bought 2 of these to replace the single BenQ to have a dual setup. Within an hour, I was Googling how to fix the ghosting. I couldn't stand it. You have to enter a secret menu and change a setting... EVARY TIME you turn on the monitor. I returned both of them and reverted back to my single BenQ setup (eventually finding another used BenQ).

Some might not notice, but I did. And it drove me up the wall. Someone also mentioned sarcastically that it wouldn't bother them because they are only using Microsoft Word. Well, that's where it's MOST apparent. Take a white background with dark letters and drag it around the screen. The ghosting becomes VERY obvious.

People, beware. All the previous people saying that the ghosting is an issue of concern are right. I am actually very surprised the amazing reviews these monitors got. I'm assuming its the same people who say there is no noticeable input lag on large HD TV's and video games. And mind you, I had two so it wasn't just a fluke.

tl;dr These monitors have a bad ghosting issue. Speaking out of experience, I wouldn't recommend them.

tinymonkeyt 01-21-2013 02:47 PM

Is the ghosting issue referring to the VE247H, or the VS247H?

SkrolZ 01-21-2013 03:01 PM

I can only speak for the VE247H.

mxjs19 01-23-2013 03:23 PM

I just bought this monitor and I the box says that it is a VE247 LCD monitor. I thought it was suppose to be LED, did I get ripped off? I'm also reading the tag for the model # and it also says VE247 LCD monitor. It is missing the letter H, should I return it?

FWIW, mine says VS247 LCD MONITOR on the box. On the lower left corner of the box, it says LED Backlight.

...I'm currently regretting my purchase: I'm using this at work with my Dell E6410, and the screen is flickering whenever it has to display certain solid colors. The flickering is less noticeable if I use a black or white background, but I didn't expect to see any flickering at all. (FYI, my laptop only has a VGA connector.) Any tips for my issue are greatly appreciated.

Sammich 01-23-2013 03:59 PM

Yes this monitor is a piece of junk. Ill be returning it as soon as I buy something nice.

I've got two VE247H Monitors. One is from this Amazon deal, the other is from Newegg 6-8 months ago. The new one does say LCD Monitor on the box. The older one says LED Monitor. Both say LCD Monitor behind the panels. It might be they had to change how the product is marketed on the box? See second attachment.

My issue is my older one is perfect. White and black levels are superior. The newer one simply does not do white as you can see my the picture I attached. Older monitor on right.

I want to exchange and hope I can get a good set again but Amazon is OOS and then there is the rebate issue if I wait to exchange.

deals2dream 01-24-2013 11:59 AM

i received mine from amazon ve247, should I open or return if you all having probelms?

deals2dream 01-24-2013 12:15 PM

ASUS is cheating people, "the LED is only on select models " and "display port is on select models only" what is this select models means? The model number VE247H but it depends whether you get these features or not. This company seems to be a very flase marketing. I regret buying it.

Was $159 on 03/14/2012 but I don't think there was a rebate on that. That makes $149.99 most likely the lowest price ever on Amazon.

So I did a replacement with Amazon.com and the newest VE247H monitor came in today. It's worse then the one I was going to send back. I don't know what happened but ASUS quality and consistency control must be terrible.

My VE247H that was manufactured November 2011 is perfect: white so bright it's blinding and black so dark it appears the monitor is off.

The September 2012 manufactured one simply didn't compare in terms of white/black levels. It was distracting.

This latest one is manufactured in November 2012 and it's straight up trash. My black is simply dark gray no matter how much I try to tune the settings.

I don't expect monitors to be perfect matches but I want them at least somewhat close. Very disappointed.
