I had earlier posted this as a P.S. to another deal which is now sold out; I think the pricing on this shed is slick enough to merit its own posting!

Hope this helps someone!

Rokket 01-20-2013 10:55 AM

Okay, who is giving this deal a thumbs down for "not a good price"? I'm pretty sure you can't find this shed anywhere else for less! (If you'd like to try, just search for Suncast model # WRS8800.)

mcmd 01-20-2013 01:08 PM

In for 1.....thanks! ...will go nice with my new cedar fence.

getwilde 01-20-2013 01:24 PM

Hmm, seems like a great price, especially if that's solid cedar, and not just some sort of veneer. Someone gave a thumbs down for product quality, but I'm having a hard time finding any reviews on this shed, aside from the positive review on HD's site.

yagru 01-20-2013 03:19 PM

there was a review for the same cedar shed product except the smaller shed.. they said the ceder felt like ikea quality. so it does not look like its worth it.. better off paying more to a local shed company for a shed that will last 20-30 years

Any idea how much more it would cost to have a shed custom-built and delivered? I bet it's at least double this price (but I don't know, so feel free to correct me).

Rokket 01-20-2013 03:40 PM

never mind, posted twice!

maj0819 01-20-2013 05:21 PM

Seems like a great deal to me. In for 1.

namlook 01-20-2013 05:24 PM

I went with all resin myself, but this is a good price.

T-SHIZZLE 01-20-2013 07:14 PM

In for one, thinking about a second as it should go together even faster once I learn on the first one. Thanks OP, repped.

maj0819 01-20-2013 07:32 PM

I was actually thinking about a second as well. Was going to buy some Home Depot egift cards to save a little more.

1 for one. Do I need a permit?

Hmmm...not in my area.

agureghian 01-20-2013 08:04 PM

to make this really slick, put a bed in there and pay someone so that you can lay this thing in their backyard.

Same price probably less - this is only 8x8

cellneuron 01-20-2013 08:30 PM

Now the question is how to build this shed? Let's start from the foundation.

In the suburbs of Wash DC you can get an 8x8 T1-11 (laminated 5/8" textured siding) shed built on-site for $1000, probably cheaper in most parts of the country. That would include 2 windows, choice of door(s) style, shingles, site leveling and delivery of all materials from a reputable dealer/builder that will warranty their work.

8x12 $1400
12x16 $2500

Your choice of foundation/floor is extra.

That info is fresh as of 2 months ago when I was looking to NOT help my neighbor build his :D

This shed at $1000 is a great deal for cedar.

I priced a few companies here in Austin. I went with one that was not quite the cheapest, but had a great reputation. Here was my breakdown:

8’ x 12’ Gable Storage Building (Premier)
• Storage building will be constructed on site
• Level ground with cement blocks and pressure treated 4 x 4 runners
• Pressure treated 2 x 4 floor joists spaced 12” on center / 3/4" CDX plywood floor
• 2 x 4 wall joists 16" on center and 2 x 4 double top plate
• Install Smart Panel exterior siding and trim / 7' high walls / 9’ peak
• Install a 4’ wide double door with pressure treated ramp
• 2 x 4 roof trusses / 2 x 6 ridge beam / 7/16th” roof sheathing
• Install 15# roof felt and composition shingles that match house shingles
• 8’ of ridge vent and two flat grid vents / Paint building to match color of house
• Replace the door and rotted trim on the shed near the back porch
• Clean up and haul away all job related debris / 7 year workmanship warranty

Cost of 8’ x 12’ Gable Shed (Premium) - $2550.00
Cost after applying 10% Val Pak Coupon - $2395.00

So I would say this for $1,000 is a good deal. I sort of want to buy one... I wonder if it can be painted (HOA rules require any sheds to be the same color as the house).

But I've never met a Home Depot shed that I'd have on my property at any price. But then I subscribe to the motto "buy once, cry once". HD usually has most of their sheds built on the lot as samples. There isn't a chance I'd buy one without seeing one built.

There are a couple custom shed-builders in my area and they charge $15/sf. That would be $960 for an 8x8 (same size as OP).

correct answer is

you'd have to call your town/city/village/hamlet and ask to find out. I can say that where I am, the city is pretty fond of their permits, and any shed (that doesn't have a concrete foundation) that is less than 100 square feet does not need a permit.

But this isn't a Home Depot shed, it's a Suncast shed sold at numerous retailers - Home Depot just happens to have the best price - by far - right now.

yagru 01-20-2013 09:47 PM

yes it would cost around 2k for an 8x8 from a reputable shed company. To me though this is one of those items that you should either go real cheap (500) on or pay the price (2k) and get quality. You can get the rubbermaid big max on sale for 500 or 450 which will probably last just as long or maybe a little less than this shed. Ive never seen this shed in person though so maybe it is decent quality, but i would be skeptical of a ceder shed in the price range.. just my opinion

do you really think suncast uses quality wood in these retail units?? i dont know

Thanks for your comments about this! :)

Good looking shed. Why not buy a smaller Rubber-Maid shed that you can attach washer-dryer hook-ups to a guest house.

dormat029 01-20-2013 11:11 PM

got 2 of them. Gonna stack them on top of each other for a 2 story house shed. in ya face trailer park, IN YA FACE

WindySummer 01-20-2013 11:32 PM

At this size, don't buy anything you have to paint. 2"-3" cement pad depending on where u live.

That's a quick way to having to get a permit where I live. YMMV

Fair enough. But I still wouldn't spend $1000+ on a shed when I've never seen the finished product. The fact that it is on sale at HD or costs more elsewhere would not be a compelling reason for me to buy a shed, presuming I was in the market.

I was looking for a good price on a wooden shed. I found this website. http://www.shedliquidators.com/ca.../Closeouts

They have two sheds, one is 8x6 and the other is 8x8. Do you think this is a good deal for wood sheds? They seem like they're quality made....

fourml8r 04-29-2013 09:16 AM

suncast products are typically very low end. i would suggest looking at their other product to see the type of quality you can expect.
