If calling to make a complaint at 1-888-BestBuy, SPECIFICALLY request to speak with CONSUMER RELATIONS. Everyone else will give you the run around! Bestbuy will issue you a $50 GC via mail once they verify your receipt for a SINGLE ITEM purchase of $100+.

**I just spoke with the consumer relates dept. and they told me under no circumstances are they allowed to compensate anyone. This directive came down from the big wigs at HQ.** 01/27/13 15:36

Deal is DEAD! Promo was only good for ONE DAY, Monday January 21, MLK Holiday!

Original LINK finally removed from BB servers sometime on 01.23.13

Edit by ReanimationXP, 1/22/13 @ 12:24pm:
Deal is dead officially, but still working provisionally! YMMV.

A correction like this is false advertising! Don't let this one die so easily, SDers!

I just called 1-888-BestBuy and explained that the manager at the Camelback location in Phoenix, AZ was refusing to honor the deal of the printout I had, and warned this could bring about a false advertising lawsuit. She was very nice and helpful. I was trying to buy Amazon gift cards which she could not pull up online (I coudn't either), but she offered to mail me a $100 gift card and only charge me $50 for it. She also double-checked that I would be able to buy an Amazon gift card with my Best Buy giftcard once it comes in. YMMV, good luck!

EDIT: I just mentioned how they took care of the guy below me with the Keurig, and she sent me $150 gift cards for the price of $50 and express shipped them to me without me even asking! This is incredible! They really don't want a lawsuit :)

Ooops, we are losing way too much money, no freaking way are we running this for a whole week. We'd better cut our losses with "correcting" it to a 1 day sale, and while we are at it, restrict to stuff we don't lose money on.

PROOF: http://slickdeals.net/forums/show...count=3174
Got $1600 for only $800.

PROOF: http://i46.tinypic.com/2mq2nnk.jpg Apple TV for $45 (Woodbridge,VA)

ZOMG MOAR PROOF: http://slickdeals.net/f/5810572-B...st57012464
$600 for $300

$2500 for $1250 http://slickdeals.net/forums/show...count=1143

READ the thread for latest info. Some people got denied when using the coupon.

What has been confirmed based on comment in this thread (WITHOUT manager override)
  • Doesn't work on sale items - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum confirmed this. It is $50 off regular price
  • One Single item must be more than $100 - Not true according to some but Bestbuy forum link in the beginning of Wiki confirmed One item must be at least $100.
  • Doesn't work on GC - Confirmed to exclude gift cards by a Best Buy representative on Facebook, but YMMV

Note from a Slickdealer about gift cards: "Bought the Amazon GCs and manager thought $50 would be statement credit, told me if I did not get statement credit to come back and he would adjust. Did not want to play that game so returned the GCs and got a printer. The manager had to call their support team, and they said that it does not work on any GCs at all. (YMMV of course). It did not take the $50 automatically on the GCs but did on the printer..."
  • Doesn't work on video games - Not true according to some
  • Doesn't work on Kindle Paperwhite WiFi without manager override
  • Doesn't work on Apple TV without manager override
To qualify for the discount, MasterCard must be used on a purchase of $100 or greater. Some people indicate ONE item need to be over $100, but multiple people have gotten it to work with no override on a combined purchase.

Per the facebook page:
Quote:

Hi Amy-

It has to be ANY Mastercard credit card. Mastercard gift cards would not be accepted.

-Jesse-

Pre-paid master cards may no longer work if the manager is in the loop

* I paid CASH... but had a prepaid Walmart MasterCard($3 fee) in hand because after the cashier and manager were done doing the override,
they paid no attention to the $50 bill I handed over.Just rang it up and gave me the receipt. :)
I think the reason is that the coupon didn't scan on the 4 $25 Amazon Kindle gift cards
and they had to take off the $50 manually. If the coupon had scanned, it would probably
not accept any other payment except MasterCard. :)

If you don't have a Mastercard, purchase a prepaid Mastercard from any store and use it. Read cashier instructions on coupon. Doesn't seem to have exclusions regarding type of Mastercard.

Shop Status (Post what stores worked, semi worked, or refused. Feel free toupdate this!

California
Valencia - purchased multiple blu-rays. bb.com had the LOTR extended blu ray set for $45.99 so price matched plus bought Ted, Sons of Anarchy, Legend and Red Riding Hood. Manager override needed, he came over and knocked down the price of SOA and LOTR to reflect the $50 off. Cashier had issues with the coupon, had to be scanned first but still needed the override to work. paid with best buy card :) not mastercard.

Tustin - Wouldn't accept the coupon on multiple items, it had to be over $100 on a single purchase.

Marina - As of 4 pm, my wife was able to snag two Amazon GCs (cashier and manager didn't care). I was able to buy 9 x 16 K-cups, even though the coupon said ONE SINGLE ITEM. The Marina Best Buy is really lax. It's probably because it's in a small town.

Georgia
Atlanta (Perimeter) - Not taking coupon *today* "due to error in BBY system"
Duluth - Worked with Roku 2 XS with mgr. over ride

Maryland
Owings Mills - Gift Cards of any type - no good (manager said no), everything else is okay (minus exceptions) (1/21/13 @ 10:01)
Security Blvd - gift cards are considered "air time cards" therefore will not sell any product that requires "activation" with this promo, else products can be bought. (1/21/13 @ 11:20)
Frederick, MD (21703) - WORKED! needed mgr.. Wanted to buy 3 with seperate transactions, instead mgr took $150 off the canon 430 flash. (scooped for $111, down from $350 on sale for $255)
White Marsh, MD - The manager has asked all the associate to deny honoring the coupon because "the system does not apply the coupon correctly" . I talked to the manager and she refuses to do overrides even though I stood in line for 45 minutes.

Minnesota-
St Cloud - I was able to buy the 24" LG LED HDTV Reg Price $229 SALE price $169-$50 coupon = final price of $119 + tax. I was THRILLED! They were very careful at first to make sure it didn't go against any of the restrictions but went through smoothly. I purchased at about 7:30p.m. Monday though. They weren't going to honor it any other day. There were signs all over the store and on the front doors.

Virginia
Manassas (20110) -Worked on Canon lens
Sterling/Dulles - Worked with xbox 320 GB hdd upgrade without any problem
Reston - picked up the last 3TB WD Green. Manager was needed to process the order, but gave me no trouble about the coupon. Got it for $104.99 after tax.
Chantilly - picked up ANOTHER 3TB WD Green. This time for some reason, they gave it to me for $99.74 after tax! Apparently when the manager overrides the price, the result can be different depending on how they do it.
Woodbridge (22193) -Worked on Apple TV w/ Manager Approval at 3pm. Went back and they won't give any discounts to Apple products as of 6pm.

Indiana
Bloomington (47404) - Did not work on gift cards. was able to use it on a Roku XS 2
Columbus (47201) - Worked on 2x $50 Amazon GC's - overridden by cashier w/out manager approval. Crappy store. Refused to honor the coupon.
Mishawaka - Worked on a sale Brother laser printer without manager approval. Cashier mentioned some people had tried GC's and managers were approving sales but stopped.
Lafayette - Worked on a Nike+ Fuel GPS Watch which was on sale by giving you an extra $10 BB GC at time of purchase.

Iowa
Coralville - 1/21/13 8PM would not work for GC and was told "only one coupon per customer." Purchased a 3tb Toshiba external hard drive. $129.99 - $10.00 (on sale) - $50 = $70 + tax Manager override not required. Used Walmart GC MC.

Oregon
Cascade Station - manager had to override on AGC, but seemed to be aware of the coupon and was honoring the terms.

Pennsylvania
Whitehall - did not work on gift cards, manager would not override.

Texas

Austin(78704 on Ben White Blvd) - did not work on gift cards, manager would not override.

Willowbrook(77066) - worked on Intel 520 120GB SSD drive. Coupon wouldn't scan but worked on manual entry.
Edit: They have stopped any GC purchase with coupon here in Willowbrook store. They are NOT doing manual override anymore. Whatever scans will be allowed only. Had to buy a kids DVD on top of Roku-2 XS to bring it above $100. Even school supplied or candy won't work :(.

Washington : Bellevue and Tukwila are no longer accepting purchases for gift cards

Florida: Jacksonville (St. John's Town Center) - Apple TV will not work. - Other items work
Palm Beach Gardens - iPhone 5 upgrade for ATT

New Jersey
Brick - 10am: worked on Amazon kindle cards with manager override
Brick - update 10 minutes before closing: Wouldn't let me buy a giftcard but said I can use it on ANYTHING else that's regular price. I opted for a zumba game, headphones and a bunch of HP ink. Coupon still wouldn't take but manager (different from the am, obviously) came over and fixed it no problemo. :)
Woodbridge - worked 2 min to closing, but they held firm to exclusing/inclusion list. Poor cashiers were hammered today, so I conveyed to them a heartfelt thanks
Howell - Didnt work on giftcards but I got 2 aqua pure filters for Samsung refrigerator for $100 - $50 total being $50 plus tax. Manager had to override but it worked and still a decent deal.
Howell - around 8pm had signs all over the door that it must be on ONE item equally 100. I walked out empty handed. :(

Anchorage AK
Bought a Roku 2 XS and a Snickers bar to put me over the $100 mark. Total came to $51.48. Needed manager override.

Fairfax, VA
Tivo Premier and M&Ms for $52 and wife grabbed a WD 2TB for it for $62

Looks like gaming stuff is the only thing that isn't excluded on their list lol. Xbox 360 4GB at $179-50=$129+tax might be a good deal. Unfortunately, I want the 250 Gb and that is no real bargain on their site.

Even though it doesn't exclude gift cards I can guarantee my best buy will somehow say they *are* excluded and won't let me do it. Good luck to everyone else.

Then again...it says gaming hardware excluded so that probably is off limits as well. Gift card may indeed be the way to go.

TrollAccount 01-21-2013 01:15 AM

is it 1 coupon per transaction?

am i going to have to print out 20 of these things to get 20 $100 gift cards tomorrow ?

Well it's 50% off if you just spend $100, but the higher you go that value of it will decrease. So I guess they are hoping you spend more like $300-$500 and it will only be like a 10%-15% discount at that point.

ANY mastercard. any of them will work. at least that is what it says on the paper. either way i'm sure you could get the clerk to do it.

escapingreality 01-21-2013 01:19 AM

Well you can force them to let you buy gcs because it doesn't exclude them

ImaPuppy 01-21-2013 01:19 AM

If this works, someone is getting the axe at BB on Tuesday. Also, Canon isn't excluded. Gonna be on the lookout for a close-out camera deal for sure if GCs are a no-go.

I think the key is going to be being one of the first people to use this thing tomorrow. After a couple trickle in the manager at each store is going to step in and then its going to die quickly.

No, it's an inkjet. It's cheaper than laser, almost as fast, has color, and is on sale at staples. MfC j430w

No, actually I was actually returning a unit I decided not to keep. All the other computers I got are no longer on their site and people said that makes it sketchy to return/rebuy. As long as the price hasn't changed I would give it a try for yourself.

Binar 01-21-2013 01:20 AM

no restriction on buying GC, no restriction on how many a customer can use, not a unique code, not even required to have a rewards account

if this is real you better save it in a PDF

Ray97 01-21-2013 01:21 AM

There's no limit on the coupon as far as I can tell.

With no limits on multiple use it's got to be fake. The entire store will be cleared out of everything at $100 or less.

escapingreality 01-21-2013 01:23 AM

Seems fake tho because no one else got email

milko 01-21-2013 01:23 AM

Just seems like a crazy oversight to me. Today is going to be nuts.

My computer is still listed on their site with the same price I bought so I think it should not be an issue since it will still be in their system once they do a full return and right after I buy it again.

Who buys large ticket stuff from Worst Buy let alone small stuff? I suppose you can go stock up on DVDs and games and small stuff like that, but there prices generally are not that good on that sort of stuff to start with andyou have to pay sales tax.

Canon is not on the list either but they excluded DSLRs so that knocks out that major aspect of their product line.

Nah. If they pull that, you can expect a BB gift card as a make-up kiss, so it's all good.

aznxenon 01-21-2013 01:31 AM

Good luck checking out without cashier reading the goddamn coupon 20 times, call over 5 different managers to have each one of them read the damn coupon 5 times, then run your background check, credit score, lifescan and calling the cops before letting you walk out with the $50 discount. Best Buy's motto... Thousands of Possibilities, and you're definitely a scumbag shopper!

Should we start taking bets now on:
1. How long until this coupon magically disappears from BestBuy.com's servers?
2. If this promotion will last to its specifed end date or if SD will get it shut down early? :D

If this works on gift cards... this is going to be an absolute shit show.

namlook 01-21-2013 01:35 AM

East Coast will tell us if it's working before west coast needs to bother going out.

YanksIn2009 01-21-2013 01:35 AM

They do not have to exclude gift cards...I can see it now. The first few people that show up when the stores open on the east coast get the gift cards after haggling with the managers...the managers realize what is going on...then all the gift cards disappear off the racks to the back rooms with emails flying to all stores to follow suit so those on the West coast can pretty much forget it.

While supply lasts...oh no supply.

Well it has a barcode so a simple scan will tell the cashier if it works or not? Why read all the info and when a simple scan will do the job.

That's why you just hope to be one of the first ones to use it, and be smart about it (i.e. not trying to do what you listed above).

I'd be more than happy with one $100 gift card. Then perhaps running to a different store real quick to do it again.

Of course, there will be people who idiotically try to buy 10 $100 gift cards at once but there is no way that will work...and it will definitely kill this deal.

Any recommendations on a good quality mid-size microwaves? The ones I have bought recently have a bad habit of dying soon after the warranty period.

Nah it would be worse than that. This whole deal would get axed by mid-day, on everything. That is definitely what is going to happen. I think you'll just have to strike early and grab whatever you see as a good deal. Doubt GCs will even work, because they can refuse pretty much whatever they want...and getting a $100 GC for $50 is a lot more suspicious than getting, say, a $100 pair of headphones for $50.

You wave your rights when you enter a BB... How legal is for a retail store to finger print you when you return something or when you recycle a $5 item. How legal is for a store to even take a copy of your DL when you have a valid receipt and you also have the cc that you use to make your purchase with?

Congrats on being the first customer in the first Chinese Best Buy store. Now be sure to sell them fast. Merchants can pull the gift cards' funds from Amazon and Amazon can try to audit you if you eventually use them. :bulb:

They might not be excluded specifically, but they might not work at the register when you scan the coupon. Many gift cards require activation first, and putting in a discount on them at a POS system might draw a red flag or cause issues that need a manager override.

If you remember that Target price mistake a while back on PSN gift cards, some stores were having trouble activating the gift card because of a price adjustment. Not saying that's definitely the case here, but we won't know until we try.

Impossible. I just bought out the entire nation's stock of Amazon Kindle GC. I called all the regional managers (they're my buddies) and they agreed to contact all locations' overnighters to clear all the GCs for me. Once I sell the first few million, I'll let you know from my yacht and new 2013 macbook air with retina display.

Yeah there is no way they are honoring this for any length of time and without a one per customer restriction. This is either fake or a poorly written coupon. If not fake, they will just pull it or claim it was a printing mistake and say one per customer, no gift cards, no printers, no this, no that and just let you get overpriced dvds and video games. They are not legally boaund to honor mistakes and how could anyone prove it wasn't a mistake?

Looks like a similar deal occurred in December but not to the same scale this one is. Looked like most people were able to snag gift cards but with manager approval first. Link: http://slickdeals.net/f/5658988-1...st-Buy-B-M

Living Social then this. Maybe the same guy who code these coupons for the 2 companies.

That's what I thought too. Sadly, most cashiers I've encountered will not scan a coupon until reading it over and over again. :( they seriously think every customer = mad skillz 1337 h4x0r who can make fraud coupons, hack into their system and make it work somehow.

It's pretty annoying, not to mention once you give them with a coupon, they start treating you like crap, and call over a team of managers just to read more, shake more heads and find bullshit reasons to deny you. :vomit:

Should we start taking bets now on:
1. How long until this coupon magically disappears from BestBuy.com's servers?
2. If this promotion will last to its specifed end date or if SD will get it shut down early? :D

If this works on gift cards... this is going to be an absolute shit show.

Most likely a shit show either way.

$10 off $50 isn't remotely similar to $50 off $100.

Not. Even. Close.

The scope of this one will be gigantic, and this will be dead within a few hours I bet.

I'll be at the store at 9 a.m. if the east coast says this is a go. Also the more I think about it the less I think GCs will work even if there is no set exclusion. There is just no way a manager is going to let that happen.

kingkong00 01-21-2013 01:47 AM

Uh, it's the LAW for pawnshops in many/most states, and that's what BB is acting as taking in used items. They have to fingerprint or not do it at all.

I'm pretty sure only the first few people can do this. A manager over ride is definitely needed. Once that manager see's whats going on then its a no go for GC's.

YanksIn2009 01-21-2013 02:13 AM

This will not make it past the first person through the door imo. Save yourself the time and trouble. They are not going to subsidize another company by giving you 50% off gift cards to Amazon, etc. They have so many exclusions and can always claim a misprint and add more. If this is even real, the best you can hope for is $50 off some PC speakers or a couple of games or a gps and that would be after they make you wait for an hour and treat you like dirt and I would not waste the time and effort and gas. Their reputation is awful for a reason.

It's because it just doesn't make sense. They are going to lose a lot of money on this promotion if they honor it through 1/27 as the coupon states.

I do believe it is authentic as Best Buy is trying very hard to make their turnaround. Consider the $5 trade-in last 2 weeks, and Facebook RZ points now. However, I doubt that the system will apply the discount on gift cards.

Yeah but this coupon is not the way to do it, at least not if people take advantage of it even if they don't do the gift card route. It doesn't exclude some items that barely make BB any money such as computer monitors. After this coupon they'll be losing money on every monitor that walks out of the door -_-

Because if you read the coupon, you could legitimately walk in the store with a ream of them printed out, go to the gift cards section and grab all of them and then go to the cashier and pay in 100 dollar increments getting $50 off each. Then go get a bunch of $100 GPSs at half off, etc. If it is real, then someone forgot to add, "1 per customer" and "gift cards excluded"...Then it would be your typical $50 off nothing you likely want or stuff that is already way overpriced deal which is Worst Buy in a nutshell.

This bolded part is absolute nonsense. Even if BB doesn't have good prices, 50% off their prices is SUPER SLICK for the majority of their items, if not all.

Don't be ridiculous. Also, you've posted this more than once, and its stupid.

I hate best buy, but Canon isn't excluded, monitors aren't excluded, a number of pro audio brands aren't excluded, etc. Even at 1 per person this would be the best deal of January without a doubt on SD.

damn and I thought my Best Buy's selection in Mississippi was limited lol. My stores carry a few sub $100 monitors - going to try to pick one or more up depending on east coast's luck.

i don't think losing significant money will look good on reports but here's hoping this deal pans out!

You guys really aren't understanding the exclusions. The bolded parts on the coupon are the categories only, and then after the colon it shows WHICH parts of those categories are excluded. The only portable electronics excluded are ipods and bose products.

So no, tablets aren't excluded but I don't think its the best way to use the coupon. There is a lot of stuff that isn't excluded in fact.

Monitors are probably the way to go to get the most value out of this, depending on your store's availability.

DSLRs are excluded which is a major component of the Canon product line.
Monitors and the other stuff you will likely find either have had their prices raised or are out of stock.

Worst buy does not compete price-wise as a general rule. Every now and then they might have a sale on specific items that might be worth the trouble, but it is the exception to the rule in my experience. The only way they are not doing their usual finagling is if MC is underwriting the $50 discount and reimbursing BB for this offer (assuming it is real). Then sure, maybe they would not care and let anything go. Otherwise you can be pretty safe in assuming they are not going to let people get 50% off anything they already have slim margins on.

You are really confused about the exclusions. Only Nikon and Sony DSLRs are excluded.

Read closely:

Quote:

Digital Imaging: Sony camcorders,
digital cameras, NEX cameras, DSLR cameras, lenses & flashes; Nikon DSLR & compact system cameras, lenses & flashes & P510; GoPro cameras;
That means, Sony products and Nikon products.

Regardless, DSLRs are not what you should be buying with these coupons.

As for the rest of your post, your original argument was that BB's prices were so inflated that even $50 off $100 wouldn't be worth it if there were major exclusions, which is nonsense. My response had nothing to do with BB accepting these or not.

looks very legit, barcode looks generic, but in two hours I expect the east coast SD-ers to chime in

Per the coupon MC is NOT a sponsor of this promotion and assumes no liability for it.
