This post can and should be edited by users like you :)

YOU CANT USE THIS CODE IF YOU ARENT ALREADY SUBSCRIBED (CANT DO IT AFTER-THE-FACT) AND EVEN THEN ITS ONLY FOR SELECT SUBSCRIBERS

All products that qualify: http://slickdeals.net/?sdtid=5811...-PromoWord

Alternatively, if you're a veteran or are considered low-income (exact income limit hasn't been announced yet for this year -- last year it was anything under $30k, I think) keep an eye on TurboTax Freedom Edition [intuit.com] which is free if you qualify. Last year it was free state and federal e-file.

I believe you need to be a subscriber to Newegg Email deals, which takes 2 seconds and is free, for the coupon code to work.

You can just sign up at the top of this page: http://promotions.newegg.com/neem...ge-_-promo

Yes, I assumed that would be the case,
and re-subscribed before putting the TT in cart.
But code still not accepted.
Maybe there is a lag between subscribing and code being available.

autumnmist 01-21-2013 07:28 PM

Hmm I'm already a Newegg subscriber and I didn't see this coupon code in today's email and I also get the "email address not eligible" error.

Molybdate 01-21-2013 07:39 PM

Neweggs codes are only for select accounts, pretty sure that even if you sign up for news after the fact, it doesn't work. You can keep trying, but it's all about luck iirc.

I'm using turbotax online to file. It's free to use and then there's a cost to file per state. Is there an advantage to purchasing this software? Does it include the filing fees?

david_kay 01-21-2013 07:51 PM

TAXACT is just as good at HALF the price...........$17.95 for federal and state,no coupon needed : )....they have a free federal file as well....Turbotax wants $39.95 to file your state, thats where they nail you.....

www.taxact.com

mee081224 01-21-2013 07:56 PM

state is cheaper on amazon, deluxe is same price. the only deal if you can use it is the basic. which is usually free for most people.

oxnardprof 01-21-2013 07:57 PM

Another option is to price match at Staples, if you have a Costco nearby. They will meet the $40 Costco price, and then you can apply a coupon. For example, I applied the 15 % off coupon this wekend, so TT Deluxe plus state came to 34 plus tax.

I like to do the taxes on my PC. For some reason, I remain leery of the online sites, that is a lot of information posted somewhere. OTH, that information is probably all over the place anyway.

(I don't remember if Staples will PM to Amazon.)

Been there, used TaxAct for many years, then switched to TaxHawk.com and never looked back. All is great and free!

Basic is not free, You're thinking of the online Federal Free Edition which lacks a few of the forms and schedules you can get with Basic

TurboTax Basic is perfect for me. Used it last year when it was a free Intuit offer. As you implied, it's the only one that is lower for a retail box version than anywhere else I've found. The Online version at TurboTax.com costs the same but I prefer to work on it from my computer's internal files.

Dustball 01-22-2013 07:47 AM

Amazon is currently selling many of those products for less.

MrHalliday 01-22-2013 07:51 AM

Basic TT on Amazon is showing $29.54

katthibabu 01-22-2013 10:44 AM

except for the basic, Amazon is cheaper by 13 cents. so not really a deal. but if you combine with cashback sites, newegg might be cheaper with coupon

Heckler101 01-22-2013 11:33 AM

I saw under Newegg's 48-hour deals this code for the Deluxe version with Federal & State ($39.99):

EMCNJJE65

chihuahua8383 01-22-2013 11:42 AM

Unfortunately, no. You need to purchase a new version every year.

Nevermind, I tried this code and it is expired

nytrinks 01-22-2013 12:02 PM

I tried code and received same email message as others - I have 2 states and 1 fed and when I tried to do online without codes and basic it was going to cost me $100 to file. I am going to try H&R through beehive link noted the other day or contact them to discount at least 35% through Bank of America

Fumus 01-22-2013 12:03 PM

Unable to replicate deal.

Amazon is pennies cheaper, so not a big deal. You do have the choice to download on Amazon if you prefer. Being in CA I think you're being taxed on Amazon as well.

In summation, the only real deal seems to be TurboTax basic ( if that's all one requires) thru Newegg. Unless any better deals for Basic come up in the next couple of days I'm going to order it from Newegg using my $10 coupon.

Just my personal observations: Advertising for what edition of Turbotax one needs is somewhat misleading. One example is the suggestion that if you have a rental property you should get the Premier version. This may be true for special cases and or/if you want guidance in that respect. Otherwise If you read the 1040 booklet it's easy to determine at a glance if you need additional schedules or forms - or not. Well I have a rental property, and Basic works fine using Schedule E (included). Also I am in a separtely distinct Limited Partnership that only needs Schedule E as well. My wife if working towards her MS degree and the proper forms are in Basic as well. So are Social Security and Retirement and Annuity payments, etc.

Obviously the best way to determine what you need is to compare what forms are offered for each TT edition and to look at your last year's taxes to see what forms you used. If nothing a has changed then go with the edition that has only what you previously used. If there are changes do a quick check to see what new forms and schedules are needed.

One place to see a list of forms for each edition is here [intuit.com]. You'll need to click on the "Learn more" link in each product box and then click on "Included Forms."

I hope this helps some people in making their decision.

If you earned $57k or less, H&R Block lets you do federal and state efile for $free.

Only if you don't itemize.

Why buy Turbo Tax software when you can do it online through their website?

I agree, but many people prefer to have the CD and install the software on their computer. If you use TurboTax Online, I found a good discount here:

For TT Online, there is a discounted price here:

http://slickdeals.net/f/5782006-T...usiness-55

Typically, when you buy a CD or Download the Software onto your computer, there is an additional $20 fee to file your State Return (Federal is usually free). When you use TT Online, both Federal and State returns can be E-Filed for free.

There are some differences.
Quote:

The desktop version can also import information from other tax preparation software, such as TaxAct or TaxCut, if this is your first year using TurboTax. The desktop version is more versatile when importing financial information from different personal and business finance software, such as Quicken or QuickBooks.
