DiMAn0684 01-22-2013 07:30 PM

I know this is cheap. but what do you do on a mac mini that takes up 16GB of RAM?

laphroaigh 01-22-2013 07:31 PM

got this a month ago for my iMac 2011 - 24gb RAM in total now

ImaPuppy 01-22-2013 07:31 PM

I assume this will work in non-mac laptops as well, no? Or in a hackintosh mini build?

Excellent post OP. I just picked up a Mac Mini yesterday, was going to hold off upgrading the RAM, but not at this price, thanks again.

rocky567 01-22-2013 07:45 PM

Just curious does this fit any model, since there are lot of specifications for each year model.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1270#link1

Mine is mid 2010 model.

BosuxRedsux 01-22-2013 07:49 PM

SDRebel 01-22-2013 07:50 PM

With virtual machines, 4GB per machine is pretty average. Windows + Linux = 8GB, plus the 4-8GB for Mac OS.

Most people won't need it though. Just nice future proofing. Also nice for RAM disks.

omartian 01-22-2013 07:53 PM

In for one. Thanks OP!

cheshirecat 01-22-2013 07:55 PM

would this fit 2010 Macbook pro 13'' ?

Whats the maximum amount of memory it could handle? Apples site says only up to 8GB!

BoomSchtick 01-22-2013 08:01 PM

Awesome! In for 4 for two 2011 iMac's.

kerms 01-22-2013 08:02 PM

FWIW i ordered two sets of these and both had bad blocks in them...the first set caused my macbook to crash randomly, or safari to force close every few hours

make sure to run a memtest on them when you first get them

Apple also said that the 2011 iMacs have a max of 16 gigs (4x4's), but that is because the 8 gig sticks were not out at the time that they did their testing. So they are not saying that they can run 32 gigs, but I know for a fact that they can.

Do your homework, but I'd bet a 2010 macbook would be ok as long as it had two slots.

This will wrk with all 2011 imacs right I googled and got more confused. I can use both stick to get to 20gb from the 4gb apple included right? Even though apple says Max is 4x4 for a total of 16gb? We can over ram these babies right?

I have a 2011 iMac with this kit [newegg.com] installed. It's working fine. If it works for those, it should have no problem with these. I can't tell you for sure, but I got some to try out.

I don't know what kind of results you'll get if you are mixing brands and speeds of memory. Try it out and if it sucks, then take out the 2x2's.
