Nothing can beat Onkyo NR509 for $127 from Amazon.

I also asked this in the other thread, but I'll phrase it differently: with the 471 roughly the same price on Newegg, is the 373 markedly worse, other than slightly less power output? I'd rather deal with Amazon if I needed to return it.

Does the RX-V373 have HDMI pass-through when the unit is turned off? In other words, does the tuner need to be on in order to watch a Blue Ray movie with sound?

I've tried to figure this out based on the product description and can't find it - does this unit upconvert SD sources to be delivered to the TV over the HDMI cable? In future, how do I determine that?

It's Yamaha, don't forget - they make the most reliable receivers in the business. You won't regret either one. To whoever mentioned the 509 for $130 - don't forget it's still Onkyo, and that model is notorious for HDMI switch problems - TONS of returns. Onkyo is terribly unreliable. Quote:
When I watch TV at night and the kid is asleep, I just use my Sennheiser wireless headphones - much better than my TV speakers ;) |

The a720 is a kick ass receiver and $320 is WELL BELOW cost price. If I were you, I would buy it right now and sell it. With eBay buy it not price's being at $559, that's $240 profit, excluding eBay fees. I bought the receiver in the $400 range and if you keep it for yourself, you won't be disappointed. |
No up convert on this (373). I got it months ago and I love it. It does everything I need for a 5.1 theater and lots more. It is super reliable and has more power than I need or will ever need for normal theater use.
It is very well made and has not disappointed at all. |
How easy is to set it up with a 5.1 system? I saw in the hometheater.com that, it is easier for noobies like me to setup a home theater system with the receivers having Audyssey EQ setup and Yamaha doesn't have it.

Are you certain? From my understanding, the 373 doesn't have HDMI standby. You have to move up to the 473 to get Standby mode.

The 373 does not have HDMI standby pass-through, neither did the 371...but the work-around is Optical or ARC from TV to Receiver

Amazon has lowered the price.
Currently showing $188. http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-RX-V...007JF8FD8/ |

I bought this receiver recently from Best Buy and I like that it has HDMI, but don't like that the receiver has to be on for the HDMI signal to pass thru. I'm glad it has multiple types of inputs compared to the HK AVR1700 I was looking at. You can work around the HDMI pass-thru with the extra non-HDMI inputs. I love that it has a front usb port for my iPod which I use all the time in my car.
Jumping from a 10 year old 325w 5.1 Onkyo to this one surprised me. The sound I am able to get out of my speakers seemed more full sounding compared to that Onkyo. This Yamaha also has 4k pass thru which means hopefully I'll get 10 years out of this receiver before I upgrade again. I certainly won't be buying a 4K TV anytime soon, but who knows in 4-5 years. |
Here's a dumb noob type question. Will the front USB imput work with Android USB connections? If not people wanting to use their Android phone would have to upgrade to the 473.
This is actually my only real sticking point on pulling the trigger. |

I'm sorry, but can you please elaborate on this? I am interested to know how this works. From my understanding, if I have all of my components connected to the receiver via HDMI cables (PS3, DirecTV DVR, Computer, Blu-ray, etc), and have the HDMI ouput on the receiver go to HDMI 1 input on my TV, how am I able to view any of those components without having the turn on the receiver using your work-around? What I've had to do was to use the Component cables from the DirecTV DVR to the component in on the TV, and another HDMI TV input for my computer (which supports dual HDMI monitor with two outputs), so that I can watch DirecTV by selecting Component 1 input or the computer Media Center on HDMI TV input 2, respectively. I can not use my PS3 without turning on my receiver, and would like to incorporate your work-around for all my components if this is possible. I appreciate your help with this. BTW, Repped you in advance. Sorry OP for taking this a little on a tangent. |

My Pioneer car stereo can not read either data partition of my Android phone, so I have a feeling this situation will probably be the same. |

To get around this I ran optical cable out of my DVR to the receiver. The v373 has 2 optical inputs. The point of doing this is so you can watch TV without the receiver constantly on, and just turn the receiver on whenever you want to use your stereo/surround setup. |

Anyone have any input to compare this receiver against the Harmon Kardon AVR1700 from Best Buy the other week?

Great deal on A720 but huge YMMV.
If you search around, you might find the A710 for 300 on clearance. |

Let me start off saying that I have a 10 year old klh receiver in my living room. It still works perfectly and sounds great but it's time to retire it. Time to cut back the wires and get one with hdmi. Stop laughing. I don't need networking, blue tooth, or apps. I want to hook up my ps3, 360, dish, and roku. I want basic but quality and this looks perfect. I've been looking at onkyo and hk but there looks to be headaches. I just want to hook it up, set it and forget it. What do you all think?

The downside to this one and many of the other cheaper receivers is no HDMI pass-thru, so in my case most everything was hooked up identically to my old receiver with the exception of my Blu-ray player. This one does have an TV screen setup which makes setting it up a breeze, and to top it off it has a built in program that you can use an included microphone to calibrate your speaker levels for you. As I previously posted there was a pretty decent increase in sound quality that I was not expecting. YMMV but this is my experience with this unit so far. |

I have wireless headphones from Sennheiser, but my new LG TV doesn't have RCA out. The receiver I have has a headphone jack in front but I hate plugging it in because it's a total eye-sore. |
