Yay for the king size mattress.

Is it just me or does it seem that Costco isn't even trying anymore. Each month looks like the month before and nothing really new or different. Yawn

I agree with you. They don't have anything interesting.

gerrytwo 01-23-2013 06:46 PM

One thing for sure, Costco is shipping out their coupon booklets faster. I got mine today, before anyone had a chance to post scans from the booklet here. A first for me. $20 off a Seagate 4TB Backup Plus External Drive, with a final price of $159.99, is a good deal. Not good enough for me, I just bought a 3TB Seagate for $120.

I'm pretty sure that Costco is simply using the coupon books now as a form of advertising to its members. I'll say this, I know the retail game very well and Costco is run better than just about any other large retail chain, and that includes Walmart. Of course what is good for Costco's bottom line is not good for its members' pocketbooks.

Costco has sneakily cultivated a generation of consumers willing to shop there on autopilot.;)

Try going back 20 years. Costco was an excellent deal on everything everyday. For many years everything has cost about the same as any other retailer. I miss the Costco of old :(

we bought our king size mattress from Costco.com about 5 years ago & I still say "I love this mattress" everytime I get in bed. it's the best mattress we've ever owned (it's a Sealy Posturpedic). I haven't looked at the one in the circular yet, but if that's it, I wouldn't hesitate. our previous mattress was a Stearns & Foster and it was crap within a couple of months. after 6 years I gave it away. it was so painful to sleep in & I woke up exhausted every morning from tossing & turning.

Price Club [wikipedia.org]
Price Club merged with rival Costco in 1993, becoming PriceCostco. In 1997, PriceCostco became Costco Wholesale Corporation and all remaining Price Club stores were rebranded as Costco.

I think Price Clubs became PriceCostco, but Costco always remained Costco - at least where Costco originated from in Seattle/Kirkland.

actually the way they do it works pretty well for me. only a couple or so items are must-buy for me at any time, thus no need to buy 10 different items every month, geez, how many 40 oz bottle of shampoo or 70 counts of one kind of snack bar can you finish in a month.

it has a good deal on next coupon book.
$699 for lenovo u410 ultra book, i7 cpu, 32gb ssd, 8gb ram, 1TB HD, plus 1GB video card.
got a $100 reward from costco reward. finally price will be $599 plus tax.

Anyone know how much this mattress will be? I had been planning to save up for a sleepnumber but if the price is right...

Edit: Current SD on this, it is $480ish in store until 1/27 http://slickdeals.net/f/5770472-Sealy-Posturepedic-Langley-Plush-Queen-Mattress-Set-for-479-00-after-120-IR-at-Costco

The question is, will the in-store price still be $599 when the $160 off hits, or will it go to $699 as the online price now shows?!???!?!?!??

And how would I move this mattress to my house? Is it possible ot load a king size mattress into a longbed pickup?

Edit edit: Referenced SD was for a queen mattress, so this one will def. cost more.

I don't think so. However you only need to scan one coupon and you get all the discounts.

My Costco has coupon books available at the front. The cashiers also generally have some and will just scan them for you. YMMV on this stuff obviously.

There are baby wipes on sale in the current ad that expires this weekend (1/27). It's $5 off a box of Huggies 1120 count wipes (limit 2). We priced them out compared to Kirkland 900 count box and the per unit cost was almost identical.

my Costco never needs a physical coupon. All discounts are applied automatically when things scan. You can see next time u check out, they don't scan the coupon book at all. they do scan manufacturer's coupons not from their book.

The only coupons that apply automatically are the instant manufacturer rebates. The cashier does have to scan a coupon for the other discounts to appear but there is usually one taped to the scanning gun so you may not notice them do it. Also, Costco doesn't accept outside manufacturer coupons--unless they are specifically branded for Costco (some similac and nature made come to mind)

Many people prefer Pampers -> Kirkland -> Huggie's

Personally, I don't like Huggie's wipes. Feel like they are drier than the other 2 brands.

Still remember the Price Club at Newport News, VA. Bought 4 tires which got worn out in a month due to bad alignment, Price Club replaced them for free ! ! ! No questions asked.

Great Service. No complaints at Costco as well.
Found 20 years old single malt for around $45. What a steal.

I have 2 kids under 20 months...I clean a lot of shit...a lot!
The huggies they sell at Costco (there are many kinds) are the nice ones. They are plenty wet and the pull shit away from the ass like no other wipe can, it's super rare I use 3 per poop...most of the time I only need one. They never tear or fail like many other brands, therefor the huggies natural wipes rule my babies butts :)

Positive - have a look [addictedtocostco.com] It's about 5 pages from the bottom.

Haven't had the opportunity to get these yet, the DD is only 10 weeks and we're only halfway through our first box of Kirkland. We do like the Kirkland wipes though - they're huge and stay nicely damp, which is perfect for the daily blowouts. I can think of a handful of times when we've needed more than one wipe for a job. Yes, I know it gets worse soon and most of these wipes will be going to daycare.

Think and say what you will but I've shopped Sam's Club (was a member for over 10 years) and also at Costco. In comparing the two, the quality of Costco's "Kirkland" private label brand BEATS Sam's Club "Members Mark" hands down.

I continue to shop at Costco. To suggest "autopilot" is rather inane. Perhaps a better word would be "a BETTER alternative" to Sam's Club. If and when I go there, I look for specific items. Not necessarily a lemming as you're implying. You and I are both on SD because we look for good deals. The same applies when I shop Costco.

We bought this king bed a few weeks ago. Going back for a price adjustment when these coupons take effect. The in-store price was $799 for the set. We had no problems getting it home in an F150 with a standard bed, using some tie down straps. The mattress and box springs just fit in with the tailgate closed. We've loved the bed so far.

Cal King was available in store. $800 (or $900 online including delivery). Sale price brings it down to $640. Excellent deal.

Bought this mattress about a month ago. Very comfortable. Plush firmness only. But very supportive. Compared most closely to Castle Rock (i think) Sealy from Macy's which was priced at $1600 at their end of the year sale. But Costco version include layer of gel memory foam as well (instead of only regular memory foam). $800 is a great deal, and $660 is even better.

Will be going to Costco on the 31st to get a price match.

Like all King/Cal King beds, the box spring is 2 pcs, so you could theoretically strap the mattress to the roof of an SUV and put the box springs in the back if a truck or van is not available.

I tried all.

In terms of dryness, Huggies are very much dry. Kirkland are semi-wet and Pampers are much wet.

I'm on the fence between this, a memoryfoam mattress, or an adjustable air mattress. I have heard good and bad things about all of them! Or, there is always a water bed ;)

Thanks OP. Next to the mattress is a pretty good price on the Norelco electric shaver, after rebate.

I'm on said fence, too. The site below has a pretty decent breakdown if you have time to research:

I spent the money on a Temperpedic Cloud when they first introduced it and after laughing about the ridiculous price we paid for a bed for weeks, we can now say, after a few years, it was one awesome investment. We hit every mattress and furniture store in town and tried every generic made and none felt like the Temperpedic. No mattress store can discount them more than 10% and since every store in town has to charge the same price, you have some flexibility with negotiation. Free delivery, two temperpedic pillows, gortex mattress pad (protects the foam from breakdown from sweat), and free same day shipping are all extras you should try to get thrown in for free.

We also went to the mall and had a sleep number rep run through their bed with us laying on it. I was expecting something pretty substantial. However, to me, and remember I went in with a positive attitude about it, it felt like a really overpriced air mattress. Something along the lines of a nice aerobed ect.

I was surprised when I went into my Costco a week ago and say a display of a Temperpedic. I think it was the basic model and it was $1400 (Queen maybe?).

I find their prices good, still....

Just a few examples:
Yogurt with fruit mousse on top (new)...$1 on sale at Kroger...$.80 each in the Costco pack
This month, Poptarts are $6 at Costco...same amount would be $8+ on sale elsewhere
Kirkland organic diced tomatoes, $.70/can. At least $1/can elsewhere
Biggby coffee beans, $6/lb. Nearly double elsewhere.
Radioflyer 2-seat canopy cart for kids...$80 when I got it. Saw it for $250 at Babies 'R Us (yeah, not a fair comparison, I know!)

Anyway, just some things I buy. I'm happy with Costco :) Oh, and their furniture is exceptional for the price. And their wine selection. Oh, and their baked goods and crazy cheap filled mousse sheet cakes.

Oh, and their bulk spices. And organic hamburger. And organic coconut oil. Yeah, I like Costco :)

I buy shampoo at amazon, 50oz of Pantene for around $2.50 on sale.I believe this to be cheaper than Costco, even on coupon. But certainly not every month.

I do like the QUALITY of many of their items (mainly the Kirkland-branded stuff), but a lot of things used to be closer to half the price of retail. Perhaps retail has come down in price (relatively) over the years/inflation.The produce and whatnot are alright. The rest of the warehouse (I don't go there for anything but food since better deals can be had on clearances, craigslist, certain stores, etc) with less-perishable items just aren't priced well. I've even found that frozen fruits for smoothies I can get for a better deal per oz/lb at a store about a mile from my house. I still shop there since they continue to be one of the few reasonably priced stores that treat their employees quite well. The smaller places with similar ethics/food quality just costs much more.

The "sales" are still nothing great though, nor the current prices versus the incredible prices of their start-up days. It may all be the market and the way retail has shifted to warehouse pricing, with the internet and technology changing how everyone shops.

Does anyone know how much is the Quicken Deluxe is? After the $20 coupon. I am asking because right now there is deal on Amazon.com that if you buy Quicken Deluxe + TurboTax Basic Federal + E-File 2012 for a little over $27 and I can use my discover card rebate on it and no sales tax for me there.

I see on costco.com, it is $29.99 for it after the $20 coupon. So I am getting it from Amazon.com instead. If I buy it from Costco, I would have to pay for the sales tax on $49.99 which be $3.56.

Just got this for $640. It's replacing a 8 year old mattress. Our old one lost its support so hopefully this is good one.

Purchased the queen for myself last month and It's been great. For the price point you couldn't have gotten a better deal.

I love my Sealy plush Euro pillow top from Costco! It is the Birchmere model. Got it online a few months ago, after coupon I paid $900.

Sealy Posturepedic Langley Plush King Mattress Set
$899.99
$739.99 After $160 OFF, that's what I see online. Is it going to be same in store too or cheaper ?

TIA

I have been looking for this mattress (item 705884) but they are not available in the San Diego area. Will costco.com match the price delivered? Has any one done it before?

The world will not come to the END because of a missing Costco's coupon booklet. I am sure someone on SD will scan it, post it and get a lot of rep points.

Last time I went over to the counter and bitched not getting the coupon booklet via USPS. They couldn't give me an answer...sigh and asked me to wait and see if I will get it next time.

attca2k 02-27-2013 03:57 PM

I've talked to some Costco employees, and they've mentioned that corporate is trying to move out of using the coupons, and have instant manufacturer rebates. I think to try and get ppl back physically shopping at Costco.

mixter 02-27-2013 04:00 PM

Don't they have some instant rebates right now. I know they won't accept manufacturer's coupon on Sunday newspaper.

not sure that makes any sense. don't 95% of costco customers shop at the warehouses?

costco.com has very limited items.

Don't they sell cooked baby back ribs (like $15 or more) in the oven with the $4.99 rotisserie chicken.

Not all Costco are created equal. Some Costcos have more things than others depend on the area, shoppers, etc.
