Slashinhobo 01-24-2013 03:22 AM

Man if only I could register my wii, but my wii is strictly for offline play, due to complications.

iodi 01-24-2013 03:29 AM

Thanks, I'll have to dig my Wii out of the closet. I haven't used it in months, maybe even a year.

decarillion 01-24-2013 03:38 AM

LOL I just registered mine on Sunday...oh well...loving Lego LotR on the Wii :)

pholly 01-24-2013 04:12 AM

Finally, a reason to use my Wii again. It hasn't been on since I finished Skyward Sword.

sevast 01-24-2013 04:15 AM

I assume it's wii only since it comes automatically on wii u--they're trying to get more installs.

theodyssey 01-24-2013 04:17 AM

Oh sucky! I registered mine a few days ago. :(

SlickDealio 01-24-2013 04:23 AM

Nice find! Thanks OP!

I compiled a list of free tv shows on Amazon Instant Video if anyone is interested. Mostly pilot episodes though. Some will only be free for a limited time.

Man, I did it already. Bummer!

Christopher9995 01-24-2013 05:20 AM

Does this mean they've fixed instant video? It hasn't worked on PS3 systems for months... Even with a 100mbps connection - it says "buffering" all the time..

I use instant video on the PS3 all the time and never had a problem. May be an issue with your PS3.

vizsala 01-24-2013 06:26 AM

Like many of you I signed up before the 24th. I just chatted with amazon via their web application and asked for the credit and they applied it, so do that!

gostl 01-24-2013 06:29 AM

Thanks OP

I just registered for the credit, but it is not showing up as a balance under the Instant Video Credit. Is this one of the promos where it actually doesn't apply a credit but rather just takes $5 off a purchase? Has anyone seen an actual credit post to their account?

I have the same problem. I have to move the console upstairs if I want to play on the gamepad alone. For some reason it works on my second floor when its physically on the 1st floor, but not basement to 1st floor. With all that said, I think this deal is for original wii anyway.

contrepoint 01-24-2013 07:30 AM

Same here. Can't wait to get home and register my Wii now. Time to catch up on the last season of Breaking Bad. :) Thanks, OP!

I likely won't start using the Wii again though since my TV's internet-capable now.

endershadow 01-24-2013 11:41 AM

I registered like 4 days ago. First chat with CS said no. Second said yes...I was transferred to their digital team.

unhuman 01-24-2013 05:33 PM

Wii wants me to upgrade my firmware. Pretty sure I don't want to do that.

vizsala 01-24-2013 05:41 PM

For some reason the credit allowed me to buy an mp3 album with the credit + and the remainder (.21 c) was put towards my next order....

NINkita 01-24-2013 05:49 PM

Will I need to update my console from 4.1? I have mine hacked and I don't want to lose it.

FireRockss 01-24-2013 06:29 PM

Seems like a no brainer to do BUT what are they getting out of it? There has to be something??

fruitlassie 01-24-2013 06:38 PM

I sent them an email because I didn't get the credit after going through all the registration steps. A few hours later they applied a promotional credit to my account which can be used for any purchase, not just instant videos. Makes me feel better about missing out on that other $5 deal they had going on with the car video.

StriderH1ryu 01-24-2013 06:46 PM

guess this prob won't work with the Wii U... also, it's not worth $5 in vid credit just to update your Wii firmware. I haven't updated my FW since Mario Kart launched due to ...issues.

NYYSI 01-24-2013 07:20 PM

Annoyed that I registered my Wii U before this.

Yes, they want to update Wii Shop channel.
You will have to reinstall Homebrew

If your last update was in late 2010 it is safe to update with latest 4.3 (Nov.6.2012). It only updates Wii Shop channel - confired on my Wii.
If you have earlier updates - will have to reinstall Homebrew.

Definitely something wrong with your PS3. Mine is an old fat/heavy PS3 80G and I play Amazon HD movies all the time - no problem no buffering.
Do you have your PS3 connected wirelessly or ethernet? Mine is ethernet.

By the way, I do remember some time ago when I still had slow DSL AND connected Wireless, the PS3 did the buffering a lot. Strangely the computer wireless played the movie just fine. Maybe the built-in wireless of the PS3 just suck?

papatoony 01-25-2013 10:17 AM

How do you find Amazon Instant Video on the Wii?? It doesn't show up on my menu.

Nevermind, found it! There's no $5 credit showing up on Amazon, however.

If you're at 4.1, just use a WAD manager and install v21 of the shop channel and IOS 56 and the shop channel will work without upgrading.

Thanks to OP... :)

acesmuzic 01-25-2013 09:39 PM

worked perfectly. :thanks: OP! :repped:

Brittx1 01-25-2013 10:34 PM

Thanks, OP!

As others have stated... I registered my Wii but did not see the credit posted (click on an instant video movie, look at the bottom of any instant video page and there is "view balance" near "enter promotional code").... I began a chat with an Amazon rep and they transferred me to instant video services (or something?) and within two minutes the credit was there! ...and good on kindle, mp3, android apps, software & instant video...

Awesome!

logicyes 01-26-2013 05:49 PM

Thanks OP, gives me a reason to pull the wii out. I was going to use my wii as an internet streaming device to my non-smart lcd tv but realized it only played in 480- bummer!! If anyone knows a way to play movies at 720 or more, I would be ever so grateful if you point me in the right direction.;)

thebigcountry 01-26-2013 06:09 PM

do you need to download the amazon app or something on the wii?

hokie123 01-26-2013 07:57 PM

You download the app for free from the Wii Shop Channel. Follow these instructions from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature....1000829131

Frogos 01-26-2013 07:59 PM

Worked for me. Thanks!

DogCancerDoctor 01-26-2013 08:32 PM

I think I might have got a credit when I registered my bluray player last year. I just registered the Wii and didn't get a credit. Oh well.

crazeone 01-30-2013 11:45 AM

I didn't get credit either. Maybe it's because I registered the old wii couple years ago, it gave me no credit for the WiiU. Just won't use the service, Redbox is cheaper for me.

I know exactly how you feel, I only bought it to play the Nintendo exclusives but there haven't been that many of them worth playing. I'll be waiting quite a while before I get a Wii U, usually I buy consoles at launch but Nintendo always seems to dissapoint when it comes to quantity.

robuss76 02-08-2013 05:53 AM

bumped for those who forgot about this like me ;)

GUI_Center 02-08-2013 06:09 AM

Registered mine and got the $5 instant video credit, thanks!

MyBFFisaPanda 02-21-2013 12:45 PM

Thank you! Took me a few minutes to get it all set up but I finally got it and used the credit to buy Wreck It Ralph. :)

cookiemonster 02-25-2013 02:58 PM

Just did this today. The deal is still good 'til the end of the month!

BTW, I never got an email from Amazon telling me that I registered a device, or that I got the $5. It's there:

mikey1234 02-25-2013 06:36 PM

My promotion wasn't showing in my balance after my successful device registration. I chatted and they manually entered it. Not sure if they saw the wii registered in their system or just put the credit through so I wouldn't complain

TrackGyrl32 02-26-2013 05:08 PM

Registered today and also didn't see my credit initially. Started a chat like others and afterwards received $5 credits in video, mp3, apps, kindle, and software. Don't know if I was only supposed to get the $5 instant video credit, but I'm not complaining!!

DevilsSi1481 02-28-2013 12:42 AM

Once I get the credit do I necessarily have to use it on the Amazon app on the Wii or can I use it on my PS3 or Xbox360?

AFAIK, the promotion just adds $5 to your Amazon account. As long as you log in with the same account, it should work from any device.

DevilsSi1481 02-28-2013 11:29 PM

I had to do an Amazon chat in order to get my promo but it worked! Thanks OP!

They've had Netflix and Hulu+ for ages now. For an aging $90 box that also plays games, I'm willing to cut them a little slack with the distant third in the online streaming game.

Oh, and eat it Roku.

dogstar1 03-01-2013 04:36 PM

In case anyone is wondering, the deal is dead. Somehow I missed seeing this, and since the link at Amazon is still live, I thought I'd give it a shot. Well, after an hour of troubleshooting my wii network connection (what can I say, I'm home sick today and pretty stubborn), I got it to link to my account. But no credit for me ;-(

Thought I'd save another sucker the trouble of trying.

thesirjay 03-01-2013 04:40 PM

Thanks for posting it is dead, the pain of setting up my wii was enough that I was reluctant to try for it anyway and had it been dead after that it would have been annoying.

I wonder if the credit actually appears on your account. As per previous discussion, Amazon never took down the link, so you could still register your Wii even after the promotion was over. You would just not receive your credit because, as stated, the promotion has been over for months.
