Can someone explain this deal? What is a golden key, what is SHiFT?

This is an offer to get a golden key in the game Borderlands 2.
Basically, it allows you to get free in game items.

Golden is the color of my vibrator, shaver that is!
Shift is the key that makes letters CAPITALS when you hold it of course :)

My question to you is.... Who turns your Xbox on for you?

If you dont have Borderlands 2, dont sweat it. If you do, but still dont know what any of this is, Google is your friend.

In Borderlands 2, you need golden keys to open a special treasure chest that gives you really nice weapons, shields, etc that you can't really find elsewhere in the game. SHiFT is just the in-game interface they use to enter the codes...I think. If SHiFT does anything else, I don't know what it is.

Xbox code is invalid? Were these one time uses?

I just entered the xbox code and it worked.

it's not an xbox live code, it's a shift code. you have to enter it within the in-game menu.

these threads have been posted like 300 times, separate threads, and people still have issues.
these keys are really kinda useless too, there's better stuff out in the borderlands. hell, if you're before the city takes off the kid they put in the game that hangs out in sanctuary gives far better weapons. obviously they're lower level, but great items.

I am hoping you didn't just spoil anything for me. I installed fuel cells and we were unable to get the city to fly. That's all I know so far.
Any suggestion on what level I should be before redeeming a key?

nah, no huge plot line spoiled.
i saved mine to get weapons at max level... but with the quality of the weapons in the chest, it doesn't really seem worth it at this point. i'd say, if you're weapons are lacking a little use a key or two and see what you get. the weapons will probably last a few levels, then do it again. they put out enough keys that it isn't really worth saving them up any more.

sounds like you just started playing, have fun the game is fantastic.

Playing as a gunzerker in co-op.. we seem to get more special pistols and nade mods than anything else.

I dont use it for the my level 50 people, you're better off getting drops from bosses. I use mine around 25, 30,35, etc.. to get better leveling weapons if I need stuff.

Would have to disagree about the keys being useless. They have provided me with some very good guns/shields/grenades during the earlier levels (before level 40). It is also a lot easier to use a key than to go out farming for some of the higher level items.

i dunno, i got good weapon/item drops from normally playing through. i didn't farm anything until i got to level 50 and started looking for legendary stuff. i always found better items in chests and boss drops than anything i've found in the chest. almost all etech weapons from the chest too for me, which really aren't that great... aside from the machine guns with fire and such, but then they use 2+ ammo per shot which gets annoying.

but yes, after having played through a few times, i'd say use the keys as you level up... don't wait, there's no point.

I read somewhere recently that they are going to raise the cap with a DLC.... will have to try to find it.

But then again they just released Hammerlock and that didn't do it... I think they planned for 4 DLC's (at least the season pass said 4) and we are now on #3.

Personally I'm almost done with the Torgue one (#2) and then will start Hammerlock (#3). I'm getting really tired of the fetch quests that have you going back and forth all over the stupid map. And I really miss that flying skiff from Scarlet's Booty DLC.

I say use these keys as you are leveling up but keep 1 or 2 in your back pocket, who knows. There are 5 or more listed on that website previously mentioned....
