Buy.com and Newegg are charging tax on an item that is not taxable in CA.

Report them to State of CA: http://www.boe.ca.gov/info/icomplaint.htm
http://consumerist.com/2012/06/27...scription/

Bestbuy and Amazon.com knows not to charge tax on this.

TigerDirect is not in CA, so there is never any tax from them.

If you want the code instantly , amazon is now offering the 12 month subscription for 39.99

Beat me by 2 mins . Great job !!

valhallanole 01-25-2013 09:02 AM

NewEgg is a little late to the game on this one. Buy.com and TigerDirect both did this deal within the last week. A lot of people took advantage then.

gamerguy69 01-25-2013 09:02 AM

It will be the same price beginning on Sunday at Best Buy.

You can probably start ordering ONLINE late Saturday evening for in-store pick up on Sunday. Sales tax applies to most in both instances.

Usually there is no sales tax on these Xbox Live codes. These codes count as a services not goods, so sales tax don't apply.

GuavaTooo 01-25-2013 09:07 AM

Missed out on the last few of these and current is close to expiration, so thanks so much, OP!

egas 01-25-2013 09:13 AM

Makes me wonder if I should get another one..

You get all your cards then the next day you see the following headline. MICROSOFT announced XBOX live gold is now free..... You know with the next Xbox announcement in the coming months anything can happen.

Ha, Microsoft isn't going to give up a HUGE revenue stream. I think I'll be safe ordering.

ishacg 01-25-2013 10:43 AM

Nice find thanks. Like the poster above me said, very unlikely Microsoft will make this free for the next Xbox, so stocking up on a year worth or so is probably OK.

The way Microsoft is pushing integration across all platforms of their devices you would be surprised. Plus how often has Microsoft made sensible decisions lately.. Windows 8 RT.... Just something to watch out for, even though i am pretty sure your going to be reselling, so you wont have them that long.

ishacg 01-25-2013 10:56 AM

Ahh, now I get what you are saying Petey. No worries, there is a limit 5 on these. Re-sellers won't get too far. Kudos to Newegg for spreading the love. I'd imagine that Microsoft would have a mess on their hands if they made it free though... they might have to do some kind of credit or something.

LimaCharlie 01-25-2013 11:01 AM

These keep on coming. Who will sell it for $35 next? Amazon?

Na, I'm not into the whole reselling thing. Mine expires here in the next few months.

Another note, I'd be pretty damn excited IF they canned Gold. I only use it for Netflix, Party Chat, and a few games.

I'm going to hold off for the Best Buy sale and use some Gift Cards. I do feel that Microsoft will continue to milk this service until the last drop. I was hoping the PS+ model might be adopted, I could go for some Free on Demand games on live as well heh.

Nick153452 01-25-2013 12:56 PM

Why the hell isn't amazon running anything on xbl subscriptons?

TheMexican 01-25-2013 01:00 PM

On the fence on if I should order... Comes out to 38.14 with tax...

theglove33 01-25-2013 01:24 PM

Supposedly buy.com charges tax (I'm in California) because it's a "tangible item."

kellyhsieh 01-25-2013 01:51 PM

Still a good deal with CA tax.

papo83 01-25-2013 02:01 PM

In case anyone is interested Amazon is selling for $39.99 card or online code.

TheMexican 01-25-2013 02:02 PM

I just put the amazon deal on the wiki. Would have paid an extra 86 cents to have it immediately...

JTIC 01-25-2013 02:21 PM

Posted over at CAG earlier this week. $34.99 for the 12-month card. Printed ad 1/27 thru 2/2 can easily be matched at Wal-mart.

Arista 01-25-2013 06:37 PM

For those who buy multiple memberships when these sales come around (often), I must inquire about the motivation. As I said, these sales pop up often and a year from now when your subscription is up, you might find it for less than $35. At the very least, the price will hold steady.

XBL prices have been going up and are likely to continue to do so. Might as well lock it in now when you have the chance.

Ah. I see. I had no idea about the state of things. This is only the second time I've purchased an XBL membership. Each time it was $35.

You just never know with Microsoft. I bought a $40 membership in between two $35 memberships (still kicking myself for that one) because before this month, $35 for a year of live was a fairly rare deal. The alternative was $45+ to pay for a year and most people don't want to wait a few days/weeks just to save $5-10 if their friends are online begging them to play.

treedog5 01-26-2013 08:37 AM

Deal must be dead, price is showing $39.99 now

illogos 02-01-2013 10:53 AM

I bought a code from ebay newegg, but decided I would rather have a roku. If anyone wants it for $35 paypal just PM me. I'll email/PM the code so you can have it right away instead of shipping it.
