Wow, that's absolutely killer. Awesome price for a good tablet that will become great with BB10 OS.

got it for 65$ off craigslist lol

Nate650 01-25-2013 12:18 PM

Tremendous value for such a rich tablet especially with HDMI out.

bohmwu 01-25-2013 12:18 PM

well.... liked veer... but only the shape, system crashed down too often, even for calls... not reliable for phones.
tried about 2 days for the playbook... better... but too less apps, not ideal for me as i have many ipads already

acmewidgets 01-25-2013 12:19 PM

IS RIM going to make BB 10 available for these first generation playbooks? I heard they are.
Are they going to get Netflix or skype?

BastardLunatic 01-25-2013 12:20 PM

while the processor and pixel density are not going to win any awards, the features and build quality of the device are pretty good. Probably my favorite of the 3 tablet OS's. Can't go wrong for $80. At that price range you are looking at android chinapads that you cant use in sunlight and have a 2.5 hour battery life.

Yes, it will be available for the first-gen PlayBooks.

I would have to hope that they are being more diligent in getting the good apps for BB10, as the life of their new OS will depend on it. I would be very, very surprised if BB10 does not have both Skype and Netflix.

However, even with BB10 launching in just days, Skype and Netflix have still not confirmed. (BB has acknowledged that they would have a team of devs at Netflix's door in 24 hours as soon as Netflix gives the OK, so it's on Netflix's end right now..)

evila 01-25-2013 12:23 PM

get one cheap now and braced for BB10 impact!

xveganrox 01-25-2013 12:24 PM

At this price, might as well pick it up to keep the Touchpad company :P

acmewidgets 01-25-2013 12:28 PM

Excellent on getting BB 10!

Can one hook up an external hard drive or other storage? I hate that these do not have a memory card slot.

neovus 01-25-2013 12:32 PM

Forgot to mention that the cameras on these Playbooks are some of the best on tablets.

lantzuh 01-25-2013 12:42 PM

Only 5s available so I went for it... 50/50 chance I get a good one

myamex 01-25-2013 12:42 PM

The speakers and camera are great.
I would love to buy it back, but no netflix, skype, google map, google voice, tapatalk, evernote, dropbox...

RickyF4449 01-25-2013 12:57 PM

would it be better to get one with no notes but still a 5 or a 5 with a description of the scratches on back?

You can sideload every app you mention except for netflix and skype. Google maps doesn't run well though.

I know. I used to do it, but it got annoying after crashes, updates, bugs...so I ended up getting an android tablet.

luis702 01-25-2013 01:04 PM

Now this is a good price :)

MephistoMyHero 01-25-2013 01:11 PM

I only see condition 5 mostly

BoomSchtick 01-25-2013 01:13 PM

So I take it that this has never been rooted to the point that someone put straight up Android on it?

Is there free return shipping /refund if say we dont like it? Anyone have experience with cowboom and returns?

JED-EYE 01-25-2013 01:28 PM

I am going to give this a shot. Wife keeps "borrowing" my ipad so this will give me something to play with.

Found one with everything except sleeve.

turningpoint84 01-25-2013 01:29 PM

UHHH how do you charge it? LOL no thx.

Cowboom a return policy is great , they pay for return shipping no hassle at all !

afbond 01-25-2013 01:31 PM

Figure I can let my 1 year old play with this for the front facing camera as opposed to our phones and ipads.

hokie123 01-25-2013 01:36 PM

Be careful when you select the actual unit to purchase. Many of these units do not come with the blade (std A/C) charger. Also make sure you get a Grade 5, as there are some Grade 4 units in the inventory as well.

I'd also look at getting a unit which does not have specific notes about the scratches. Granted the Grade 5 condition states signs of use and/or scratches, but many times you'll get a unit that's beter than the grade.

That being said, I purchased my first playbook last spring from CowBoom, and was extremely happy with the transaction. Free return shipping if you don't like it for any reason. If you have a BlackBerry phone, this tablet is phenomenal with the Bridge functionality.

ewin8 01-25-2013 01:37 PM

If you buy a 6 you will have to buy a charger for it. There are none with an AC adapter.

ciber 01-25-2013 01:38 PM

those are heavily used tablet and you can't change battery, I do not know why it is worth to buy

drmaxxmd 01-25-2013 01:38 PM

I got a 6 !!!!!

IamMunneY 01-25-2013 01:50 PM

I'm in for one... The Fiance' will love this!

pinkston32 01-25-2013 01:51 PM

Just finished checkout for a 6 with a charger and sleeve. No cable or cloth but I've got plenty of Micro USB cables, and they're dirt cheap. I had to pay tax so it was nearly $85.

RickyF4449 01-25-2013 01:59 PM

got a 6 with sleeve charger and usb cable!

jbloggs 01-25-2013 02:06 PM

I love the QNX and WebOs OSs, they are the most intuitive out of all the tablet OSs and they do real multitasking. I wish RIM all the best and hope they do succeed with OS v10.

kds2004 01-25-2013 02:09 PM

Thank you OP, I got a playbook from cowboom maybe a year ago and love it. I just bought another for the wife. I was able to find a 6 with a charger. Halfbrick studios is starting to develop games for the PB. Jetpack joyride is a heck of a lot of fun.

Do yourself a favor and buy this also.

i used to have it, and i can clearly and confidently confirm that the cameras on these are NOT anywhere close to being good. Sure, they are superior to the usual CRAP asus and acer puts in their tablets, but compared to the later models of the iPad and samsung tabs, these are just complete garbage, esp for still shots (that given, asus and acer crap are just horrendous garbages - for cameras anyway). For videos on the other hand, they do a fairly decent job.

Check your local Craigslist you may score one for same price with all the goodies included .

abodd 01-25-2013 02:30 PM

I remember buying a PB last year for $180 from CowBoom. It was a 7 with everything but the wall charger. It had lots of potential but BBOS sucked! The youtube app sucked, the facebook app sucked, and those were like half the apps in the app store (; . However I now placed an order for another PB because the actual device was way ahead of its time. It was a 7 inch tablet two years ago, whereas everybody was making 10in tabs. It had no buttons, now also becoming the norm.

Anyways, while I know none of that matters, I just hope BBX saves this tablet.

I added to my cart with the playbook and it still wanted to charge 5.99 to ship the charger. F that. Skip it and get the rapid travel charger on Amazon. It doesn't have the connector issue that the rapid stand you linked to does.

charger here [amazon.com]

el31415 01-25-2013 02:57 PM

just to repeat myself

Playbook = $50
. No android store
. No skype
. No netflix
. No VOIP ( sorry only one app)
. No kindle
. No xxxxxx. Just name your favorite app
Copy/edit/past functionality is a total joke on the playbook.

As for the os upgrade waiting forever and playbook got 2.1 with nothings noticeable unless you use it with your bb phone
Who is still using bb phone anyway

The built quality is the only pro.

Having purchased a 64GB Playbook when they first came out, I can honestly say, it's only been good for BlackBerry Bridge -- which allows you to use Bluetooth to connect to your BlackBerry phone (a dying breed) and check your Enterprise e-mail, surf the web, and more importantly use your BlackBerry as a remote for some pretty awesome presentations when you hook up the Playbook to HDMI ..

That all being said -- if its not for business purposes, it's been a big disappointment. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, RIM will release OS10 for the Playbook, because as it stands right now, it's a brick that sits in my bag unless I need a presentation on the fly (aaaaaaand I forgot my laptop);.

RichP1000 01-25-2013 03:09 PM

Got one of these a week ago for $100 shipped free. For a condition 5 it was in excellent shape. Be aware that without the rapid charger, you'll be SOL as the USB port won't provide enough oomph to charge the battery.

You can side load android apps. I have amazon mp3, and it works great, even streaming songs from the cloud player. I purchased mine last year from cowboom. It was a grade 7, with all the accessories. It was in excellent condition. For $85, and the potential for BB10, I don't think you can go wrong. I mainly use it for internet, and watching videos. Works well for my needs.

Google is my friend, that's why I got tired of sideloading every app I used and just bought an Android tablet instead.

It's just too much work to convert apk to bar every couple weeks. I have to pull the apk from my phone, copy it to computer, convert it to bar, then install it on the playbook.

only 4's and 5s left(just checked) and would not get anything below 6 from cowboom. Last 8 had a big scratch and died within a week but then again a 7 before it was brand new looking(and missing all accessories besides "thank you for purchasing" leaflet) and works great a year later(tablet also). I know technology is a fast moving industry but does anyone else think its absurd that RIM thought to sell these for $500!? IMHO its not even worth it at $80 unless you enjoy hacking/rooting and messing around with devices.

I am afraid, that the reason why the price is continuously dropping lower and lower, it is that PlayBook will not be supported by BB10, and after 30th they will be totally unsellable (their market value would be cut by half)

I hope it is not true, as I already bought one in one of previous deals...

z2tHaShiZzY 01-25-2013 04:36 PM

Great price on a solid tablet. I got rid of a couple of mine a while back unfortunately, no skype or netflix, and there never will be. Otherwise I would so keep them for if nothing else, fast browser and excellent screen, sound and battery life.

Godson 01-25-2013 04:39 PM

Hate to break this to you, but BBOS is dead. BB10OS is DOA.
If this was hackable for Android (like Touchpad), then there may be a market, but it's not.
Android cannot be installed on it.
It can run Android apps (via a quasi Android emulator), but it's not Android.

I'd rather buy toilet paper with my $80 than this door stop.

I hope it is not true, as I already bought one in one of previous deals...

All these companies kill their tech with ridiculous prices.

For example, Motorola Lapdock, an amazing device, retailed for $500. So dumb.

If this was hackable for Android (like Touchpad), then there may be a market, but it's not.
Android cannot be installed on it.
It can run Android apps (via a quasi Android emulator), but it's not Android.

I'd rather buy toilet paper with my $80 than this door stop.

Your post is idiotic. BBOS is not dead, still selling BB7 devices, and BB10 OS is going to be awesome, I've used it first hand. What companies like is that it's NOT hack able. And android apps run pretty well on the newest OS for the playbook. 80 bucks for a tablet that has great flash browsing, great HTML 5 usage, built in hdmi, decent camera, real multitasking.

Great price on a solid tablet. I got rid of a couple of mine a while back unfortunately, no skype or netflix, and there never will be. Otherwise I would so keep them for if nothing else, fast browser and excellent screen, sound and battery life.

I use mine mainly for my son, to play movies and music. I convert movies so they are playable on the Playbook (except some Disney flix don't convert). It's an extra step, but it works. I think I have seven movies right now sitting on the PB. For flights, it's awesome. For long drives, we hook it up to the back of the headrest and my son watches movies.

I've recorded video and used the camera. I've been able to view attachments and opened pdfs from my yahoo email account.

Not as versatile as an iPad but better than just having a smartphone imo.

that was funny as hell though. had to rep you on that :). what would be funny is if you actually made a stamp of that with the previous expired staples deal.

dj-3lusion 01-26-2013 08:56 AM

so....... age old question that may have been or may never have been answered.

1) can the playbook accept android apps. why am i asking that? somewhere someone said you can run apks.

2) can you nuke this bbos and run strictly android on it or over it?

3) is there any apps for bbos like logmein, vlc chrome firefox ip cam viewer apps and other necessities for android / ios that work on bbos.

if no for none of these then why the hell does anyone want one of these tablets?.

EOSummer 01-26-2013 01:19 PM

Just FYI, as others have already pointed out, the sale is still on. I purchased one yesterday with no accessories but checked back later to find one with all accessories. Created another account to use the coupon and snagged it. Will be returning or cancelling the original order..

TheTrillestOne 01-26-2013 10:40 PM

They have more in stock now i just ordered one

enigma4321 01-26-2013 10:44 PM

True, I also ordered one. Coupon code is still working.

Genius4sho 01-29-2013 11:37 PM

More are in stock and the coupon code still works! The BB10 OS is coming TODAY!!!, I imagine these tablets being in demand now. I don't mind getting this at such a steal! It was $79.99 w/ free shipping for me.
Link for BB10 event: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/te...le7937914/

No accessories included but I'm sure I can charge this thing with a USB cable, that's all I need is a cheap charger.

turningpoint84 01-30-2013 06:34 AM

still deciding if i should order one.

Me too, I only see grade 4, significant scratching. I only wanna buy playbooks for movies, and that would ruin my experience with a big scratch across the screen even for 80 dollars.

turningpoint84 01-30-2013 09:26 AM

I found a 6, but i don't want to buy a charger etc.

You should. BB confirmed upgrade to BB10 for all playbook

As part of a post-presentation Q&A, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins answered a question about RIM's future with tablets and whether the ill-fated PlayBook would be upgraded to BlackBerry 10. Fortunately for those who purchased the company's first tablet, the answer was affirmative. "Our plan is to upgrade all existing PlayBooks to BlackBerry 10,"

The CEO of Blackberry just said on live TV that they will upgrade all Playbooks to BB10.

Were you looking under the $99.99 or $129.99 listing when you saw this? Missed out on this deal last week and no seeing anything good in the lower priced listing.

I grabbed the last "6" about 1 hr ago in the $99 listing

afbond 01-30-2013 11:31 AM

Don't really pay a whole lot of attention to their number scale for condition. I just got my grade 6 Note 10.1 and it is perfect, even came with the box which was a surprise.
Playbook should be here on Fri. still waiting for my Chromebook to arrive from them as well. So far pretty happy with my first purchase from Cowboom.

jimuk 01-30-2013 11:39 AM

any place to get charger at reasonable price?

When I posted here that there were more in stock I bought one that was condition 5 and had no notes as to whether it had any scratches on it and another was listed as having only scratches on the back (also a condition 5). I think there were three units that were ranked condition 5s.

MarlonM 01-30-2013 07:51 PM

Ordered a 6 tonight w/ no charger. So I suggest anyone interested to check back often for new listings.

I guess I'll just give my 5 without a charger as a gift to someone.

My "5" arrived last night. Looks like new. I like the build quality of the playbook. Now to figure out why I bought this thing..

No, at the time there were none available with the charger. Got one with the unit and the sleeve. Used one of my HP Touchpad chargers and it worked great.

KinKin 02-01-2013 07:16 AM

Those that got a PB, is it worth it? CB have them again right now for $10 more, I'm debating if I should get one.

The original price was $99 and the current listings start at $119 so it's $20 more actually.

Still waiting on mine but from what I can tell its pretty solid. Only thing you'd really be missing out on were some the 1 billion apps found in the Apple or Android stores. But you weren't planning on using all billion anyways were you???

CB is having a Deal of the Day right now for $89.99.

Yeah, I totally agree with you about the apps.. My main use/ concern with the PB take advantage of BB10 OS.

cowboom does have a new Rapid Charger Dock for $8 + Shipping ~ $14.43 to California.

TheTrillestOne 02-01-2013 01:32 PM

I got mine today it was a grade 5 but by looking at it you would think its brand new. Can not find a scratch on it i already had ordered a case from amazon ahead of time so all i need now is a screen protector. Mine only came with a sleeve but i have mirco usb cables so i won't need to buy a charger.

tearsana 02-02-2013 12:06 AM

I bought one during Christmas of 2011, and returned it about 3 days later. There just wasn't enough quality apps.
In terms of productivity, I feel Windows tablet is much better (Thinkpad Tablet 2, Surface).
Personally I wish the Playbook would just die so BlackBerry can release something new.

TheTrillestOne 02-02-2013 01:07 PM

One i am noticing is the battery life is horrible. I went to bed with like 83% and woke up to find it completely dead

Try this and see what your PB's recharge count is like (it cost you $1.99 though).

I also purchased a grade 5 and it looks essentially brand new (came with charger, micro cable, and sleeve).

IamMunneY 02-05-2013 01:34 PM

I got mine last night and its flawless. No power cord or anything but its perfect... Fiance is gonna be stoked...

Anyone know if the code still works?

cmorris1441 02-05-2013 02:39 PM

Got mine today, it was a 6, but it looks brand new. Only came with the PB.

However, I'm having a problem with it. When running through the setup it asks me to select a Country and Language from a drop-down menu before I can agree to the ToS. When I press the menu it opens, but it's blank, so I can't move on with setup. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

EDIT: Working now.

dieBay 02-12-2013 07:04 PM

Got mine a few days ago, but my micro USB cord won't fit in it, very odd. Bought another micro USB and it won't fit either. The cord itself has a flat side, but the port has no flat or rounded side, both look identical! USB is retarded from the beginning with their symmetrical top and bottom, and the tiny cords are horrible. I can see which way is correct, and it simply will not fit.

MarlonM 02-13-2013 08:17 AM

Can tell you w/o a doubt that the cord goes into that things the opposite way you normally play a micro-usb cable in.Flat side should be closest to the back of the unit. Try forcing it in a little. It should work.

I'm not sure what's wrong with your unit, because that is not a blanket problem.

Mine routinely lasts for days, sometimes a week at a time with no charging.

I wiped and restored it and now the battery seems to last me a good while. Good thing i tried that first instead of returning it. Now i'm just waiting for BB10
