A Decent Tablet for Educational Purposes

I am currently in a community college and want to find a good tablet (budget $500-) that can take good notes for engineering. I have looked into ipad 2/3 (Mental note/noteshelf app) or transformer pad tf 300/700 (supernote) because I want to type with a keyboard and draw symbols for my notes. Can someone give me insight of which one is better for educational purposes and little bit of time killer with movies/games?

Stick with pen & paper. I know SO many people (myself included) who started out with a tablet but then gave it up. You just can't keep up as well as with good 'ol paper.

If you want to try it tho, I'd say iPad is the way to go. There are SO many apps available.
