FREE Honeywell Programmable Thermostat AR @ Home Depot or Lowes [Missouri Residents Only]
3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys,
I didn't see this posted, so I thought I'd share. Laclede Gas currently has a Residential High Efficiency Rebate Program running where you can get a mail-in rebate on several programmable thermostats. Limit 2 Per Household/Account # Per the rebate form: All programmable thermostats that are purchased and installed on or after February 26, 2011 qualify if they feature four (4) pre-programmed settings for 7 day, 5+2, or 5-1-1 day programming capability. Laclede Gas Rebate Program Page [lacledegas.com] $25 Mail-In Rebate Form [lacledegas.com] Here are some 5-2 Day Programmable Thermostats which qualify (and are FREE): Home Depot Honeywell RTH2300B #1 [homedepot.com] - $24.98 Honeywell RTH2300B #2 [homedepot.com] - $24.98 Lowes Honeywell RTHL2310B [lowes.com] - $24.98 NOTE: I have already participated in this rebate program and successfully received checks for both of my thermostats. The turn around time was 4 - 5 weeks from when I mailed it in. When I called the Rebate Center, I was told that you can do self-install, just put the approximate date of installation on the form. They also want an original UPC from the product box to ensure that you didn't return the units if you are doing self-install. If you purchase two units, you can submit both in one envelope. You will need to complete separate forms for each unit you are claiming though. Attach one original UPC to each form, and mail in the original receipt. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Let's Go Blues! :D |

The electric company on the Kansas City side (of Missouri, since the thread began as being related to Missouri) offers FREE thermostats and installs them for you (you are required to enter a program where they will "manage" your air conditioning during the peak a/c times in summer).

Is laclede gas the utility outside of St. Louis? I think its St. Louis Area residents only. I'm doing one rebate on something i purchased a while ago off of amazon.

I just did a little research, and the other Gas Utility company which covers much of Missouri is Missouri Gas Energy. They also have a Rebate Form, with the same $25 rebate, but it has to be "Installed with a qualifying furnace or boiler." Here is the form: LINK [betterheatingnow.com] |
I want free stuff :(

These things pay for themselves so quick. I'd get a nice $50 one for half off.

Wait... this applies to me!!! Missouran here!
Wait... I already have a programmable thermostat. And it's better than all those Honeywell models. |
Here are links to similar programs for New England Companies:
This is through Gas Networks which includes NStar, National Grid, New England, Unitil, Berkeshire Gas, Liberty and Columbia. http://www.gasnetworks.com/effici...v=20120124 or you can go to the link below and look for other rebates like water boiler etc. http://www.gasnetworks.com/effici...ations.asp |

Nice find! I'm in need of a new thermostat, and will definitely use this as reason to upgrade.

OP - How did you discover this rebate? |
I burn #2 heating oil - never any  for people who have to use oil. :(
I already have 5 programmable thermostats. :) |
PSEG - NJ has similar free thermostat as well
http://psegcoolcustomer.com/about.aspx check it out, you get free thermostat, free professional installation, $50 one time credit and 5% discount on your energy bill. This is not a wifi controllable thermostat though. Still, pretty good deal for a free programmable thermostat. |
I'm a Missouri resident, but unfortunately, this rebate does not apply.
Our gas is from City Utilities. They do have a $15 rebate, however. http://www.cityutilities.net/cons...-therm.htm |

Please share any information you have on this so I can ask PSEG for the discount. Thanks |
Duquesne Light in Pennsylvania has a similar program. $50 rebate on a programmable thermostat or a dehumidifier. Also, lesser rebates on T8 bulbs, freezers, etc.

I didn't even know Missouri had programs that covered thermostats, but I figured I'd let people know and spread the word. If anyone knows of a thermostat rebate in another state or area, feel free to add it to the Wiki. :) |

Get a mail-in rebate of $25 and save up to $180 a year. Rebate form https://www1.nationalgridus.com/f...mostat.pdf |
So the electric company will "manage" your air conditioning during peak times in the summer, i.e, when it's hot as hell and everybody else is sucking up electricity during the day, you'll be sweatin it out to save 5%?
|
Awesome! Bought a thermostat on Jan 1st to help resolve an HVAC issue meaning I didn't have time to slickdeal it resulting in overpaying. But this $25 back takes a bit of the sting out of it - thanks a ton!!!

Great post! def going to get a thermostat with this rebate. My dad bought me a water boiler and we were going to install it ourselves. Anyone know how much it might cost to have a contractor do it in NY? Not sure if it's going to be worth it to get a contractor or do it ourselves.

One thing to keep in mind with these thermostats is that it's much better to get one that has a "C-wire" hookup, which means that the thermostat is powered by the furnace transformer. If it has batteries, they are used as memory backup if the electric goes out.
The cheap thermostats do not have the C-wire hookup so they depend completely on batteries for power, and you will be changing batteries. Depending on your setup, you could be changing them frequently and the low battery indicator might not give you enough advance notice. That's what happened with my first thermostat. Went away for a weekend and came back to a frozen house and very angry cat. Since then I discovered that better thermostats use the C-wire connection to power the thermostat from the furnace which means if it has backup batteries, they will last for many years before needing replacement. My current thermostat is the Venstar with wireless remote sensor/control, which is c-wire powered and doesn't need a battery for memory backup. The remote unit does use batteries though. We keep it in the baby's room to regulate the temp in there precisely at night. |

Thanks for the ameren link. Now i'll tell the rest of my friends haha |
Can we buy it and not install? And keep it as a backup? Will they honor rebate without installation date?
