This just replaces a pci card right? I use this to pick up internet from my router? I'm a bit new to these things...

Just started looking for one of these, it looks like a fair deal. It's $38 minus $10 promo code = $28, minus $10 rebate card to get it down to $18.
Some negative reviews, but it sounds like downloading the latest drivers from ASUS takes care of most issues. EDIT: Not all issues are solved by latest drivers, apparently. It is very inconsistent at detecting my 5 GHz signal, while the Netgear WNDA3100 detects it perfectly every time. |
tempting, must resist

Eh, I decided to buy it. I was looking at the cheap ones for my new build, but I thought why not pay a bit more for an incredibly better product...

TRASH!
Received the product yesterday. Totally Trash! The signal and speed are MUCH worse than the FREE TINY Tenda Wireless USB Adapter! http://slickdeals.net/f/5565010-N...dapter-FAR |

I too am having regrets about this adapter -- it is very sensitive about picking up 5 GHz signals.
I also bought the Netgear WNDA3100 adapter, a better deal anyway ($1 cheaper without needing a rebate), and it picked up my 5 GHz signal immediately, no problems: http://slickdeals.net/f/5838238-N...p=57347626 |
I use this unit on my PC on 5Ghz band, and I get 270 to 300 mbps consistently.

When it detected my 5 GHz network, this ASUS unit worked great. However, it would not detect my 5 GHz very often. Tried multiple machines and OSs, using latest ASUS drivers. FWIW, my router is not simultaneous dual-band -- I have to set either 2.4 or 5 GHz. The ASUS unit would always see it when I set it to 2.4, just not 5, even after rebooting router, PC, etc. Like I said, it saw it sometimes, which was promising yet frustrating.
The Netgear one I linked above has not had any trouble finding the same 5 GHz network. So that's my frame of reference here. |

no it doesnt... no consumer adapter gets 270-300mbps. you might be "connected" at 270-300mbps, but i would be surprised if you actually got more than 80mbps using a speed benchmark |
I'll agree with you.
I should have stated that I connect @ 270-300. |
