Seems like a fair deal if they actually put out 250 lumens and will last more than a week

flipmarc 01-29-2013 05:42 PM

I have that set. I paid $19.99. I might pick up another set for that price :D

I've had mine for a few months now. Great quality and still holding strong.

There are three modes: Low / High / Strobe. And if you press and hold the button, it will light up in High mode and turns off when you release the button.

alreadyposted 01-29-2013 05:43 PM

what battery do they use

flipmarc 01-29-2013 05:46 PM

Each flash light uses three AAA batteries, which are included ;)

SAFJrider 01-29-2013 06:27 PM

I've been waiting for this sale. They also had a 2 pack of larger flashlights for a good price...of course brighter. these will work better in the car tool kit.

digThisXL 01-29-2013 06:41 PM

Picked up this set tonight. Great flashlights.

Mantion 01-29-2013 06:52 PM

I have used these for a while and never had an issue. They have changed the models only slightly in the last 5 years. My only gripe is that they seem to slowly drain the battery, and when the battery gets low the button on the bottom glows red which is a neat idea except that it makes it certain the flashlight will be dead. When I leave them in my car they slowly die and when I need them they are worthless. I now put a piece of paper in the flashlight to break the circuit and that solved the problem of the flash light draining. When i need the flash light it only takes about 10 seconds to unscrew it blow away the paper and screw it back in.

If you use the flash light regularly then perhaps the slow drain and warning light isn't an issue. for me it is a poor design feature that they have yet to address.

sffire 01-29-2013 06:59 PM

The new 250 Lumen flashlight no longer has the low battery indicator. The on/off button seems to be better protected than the older lights.

linoox 01-29-2013 07:23 PM

Is it waterproof?

DesertCoyote 01-29-2013 07:33 PM

does anyone know how long the battery lasts in high or low modes?

dustyshopper 01-29-2013 07:37 PM

I have bought the same set last year and I use one of them almost everyday. Nice enough to have around the house and for emergency. They may have improved the switch button like mentioned above. Will pick this up if I am in the market. Sure are brighter than my e2dl surefire but not as well build.

Why would you use a flash light everyday?

dustyshopper 01-29-2013 07:40 PM

i just looked at mine as i type, posted are rated at 250 so they are mostly improved emitters which are brighter. Last years models are rated 200 lumens, with plastic lens that can get scratch easily.

Addiction to light darkness? venture at candlepowerforums and you be surprised on the compulsive.
On a serious note, I have a pretty huge backyard thats dark at some areas, walk the dog nightly, like to work on car engines and so on.

when I bought mines they came with none rechargeable batteries which is a plus. I use eneloop on one of them for my daily driver

pandy00 01-29-2013 09:01 PM

CPF is a drain for people like me. I like buying all the low cost ones to test. -_-

would be great if these used AA. i have so many AA NIMH.

if there was a costco closer to me -- i'd be all over this.

At our Costco the 200 lumen ones are $12. So, $4 each for 3 AAA duracell bateries AND a kick A$$ little flashlight. I may or may not have bought 10 packs.

There's nothing wrong buying the low cost lights. I have tried modding some but it turns out it gets more expensive with time and money. Now they are better and cheaper.
cree posted here is a darn bright light: downside is the battery if you are not into 18650's

Light emitters on flashlights is the way to go now a days.

Do you know if you can use an 18650 battery in this flashlight?

henny 01-30-2013 06:19 AM

Does this flashlight have the parasitic drain issue?

The last 3 pack I bought from Costco had an issue where the batteries went dead in <1 year from the circuit that monitors the switch.

They are? The packaging says "weather resistant."

There is no little red light so the monitoring feature appears to be gone.

Do the eneloop last longer under heat/cold conditions when kept in the car?

I have never read anything indicating this. When I was in very cold weather for long periods, i would keep the batteries inside my down jacket, hence body temperature. Then when needing them, pop them into the light/camera, and get much better time out of them. I think that the more expensive lithium batteries are the only ones that seem to deal well with extreme temperatures.

lowpro 01-30-2013 08:17 AM

I bought about 6 a few months ago. I love them.

Edit: I have the 200 lumen version.

sinners 01-30-2013 08:22 AM

I'm on my first round of eneloops and they don't seem to last that long. Do they need a few charge cycles before they become "normal" use?

I actually went back and checked for you and took some much better pictures.

High Mode: 1 Hour
Low Mode: 4 Hours

nottrollin 01-30-2013 11:56 AM

Thanks OP. FYI, my store (Coleman Ave) had them by the camping equipment, not in the tool area. There were lots of the Feit 2 packs, also.

Just picked these up today and taking back the 200 LUMEN Version (Item 609650). I bet you this new 250 Lumen Flashlight has the same LED in it as the 200 Lumen flashlight.

They did reduce packaging size, guess that is a bonus on the environment.

jp5392 02-07-2013 01:14 PM

Does the packaging say xpc led? If so those will only put out max 140 lumens assuming best binning. Pretty deceptive packaging if so.

No, the packaging identifies these as CREE XPG-R4 leds, which have a much higher intensity than the XPC's.

Bought another set last Sunday for $14.99

Can't seem to find any of the older 200LM version now on sale for $11.99

I did see the 500LM two pack for $24.99 but passed up on it.

So am I to assume that they do not drain? That is great. I had pick some up but haven't tested the latest ones yet.
