Rooting info
This info from a previous deal is what I used:
Make the NT rock and install Jelly Bean boot via microSD in 10 easy steps: 1) Format a good SD [google.com] card of at least 4GB in size (A good SD card should have a formatted Crystal disk [cnet.com]4k QD32 write of 1 or greater.) I found the 16gb G.Skill Cl10 cards from newegg were great - QD32 1.4. 2) Download the rather stable cm10-121208_acclaim_sd_hd_img.rar [google.com] and extract the image file using 7-zip [7-zip.org]. 3) Write the extracted image to the SD card using win32diskimager [mediafire.com]. Make sure you are writing to the SD card and not to some other portably drive or SSD on your PC! 4) Open MiniTool Partition Wizard [partitionwizard.com] and you should see your PC's partition(s) (leave these alone) and 5 partitions including the unused partition on the microSD card. 5) Delete Partition 4 (Fat 32 SDCARd) and hit Apply 6) Delete the Other partition ~600mb and hit Apply (Neither of those two partitions had any files in them. DO NOT delete the 1st or second partitions which both have the necessary files already inside.) 7) Create a new partition called DATA and select Primary and Ext 4. Make the size 1-4GB (or more) depending on app usage. This is where apps will install. It you are an app hog, them go with 4GB. I went with 2.5GB. Hit Apply. 8) Create a new partition called SDCARD and select Primary and FAT32. The size should be the remaining card space by default - leave it this way. Hit Apply. 9) Close the Partition Wizard, remove the microSD card and place it in the NT that is currently turned off (it needs to be off and not in the sleep state). 10) Turn the NT on and welcome to Jelly Bean. (If you reboot it will go back to stock NT. If you turn it off and then on it will boot Jelly Bean.) Enjoy! Thanks go to: http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/20...ok-tablet/ http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/20...ok-tablet/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=1789407 http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=2037368 and gilbert_rebel Note about this method: I attempted to use this method with a 16GB SanDisk Ultra Class 10 and it wouldn't load - just got stuck on the CyanogenMod splash screen forever. I tried a second brand new card (same type) and had the same problem. Finally, I did the above steps with a 32GB Class 4 Transcend card and voila -- booted in Jelly Bean the first time. My advice is to stick with Class 4. --Parachute07 Note about Minitool; it resets some fields (like partition name) when you change other parameters. This drove me nuts for a couple of hours until I noticed that changing the file system type removed the 'DATA' or 'SDCARD' from the partition name box. This caused the unit to not fully boot, getting stuck at the swirly 'cyanogenmod' boot screen. It also caused some other weird issues. So set everything and then double check that its still set before applying the changes. Once I made absolute sure everything was right, no more problems. MM I bought 4 at Xmas for $80 a piece and bought 4 of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6820313169 and did just fine with all 4 of them. 1 for me and 3 for the kids. All rocking JB and plenty of space to load apps and movies. |
I'm going to paste into the Wiki some great info on how to root the Tablet. I did it using the Wiki info and it's been running great ever since.
|
Great info on how to root. I was able to root one of the tablets for a relative using the noob way where u basically get the market. However I could not root my personal NT and had the same problems. Ended up bricking and just sent back to B and N and told them it was DOA, lolz! might try this with the above steps and buy a new one!

So will I be happy with this running CM10?
I got my son a Nexus 7 for Christmas and I don't really want to spend that much on a tablet for myself (I regularly use my XPS 13 and Nexus 4 so this is not necessarily for heavy primary use). I guess one thing that is disappointing is the lack of camera so no video calling, etc. Seems like this would be better than something like a Diablotek D2 Pad for $80 (at least I know I can run CM10 on it). |
I would say this is probably very similar to a nexus 7, with the small exception that you have to update operating system yourself. i purchased for the kids for christmas and they really like them. There have been better deals, but if you need one right now, this is an ok deal.

Price is now $139.99.

Yea, I drug my feet on this and the price went up. I think if I'm going to purchase one, I want front/rear camera and gps (bluetooth if possible). So maybe I'll wait for a good deal on a Nexus 7.

Great tablet, between me and the kids we have 4 and they are rock solid with the JB info in the Wiki. I also posted a link to the 16GB microSD cards I used and all 4 work perfectly and fast!

The Wiki was great, everything's running well, except for one thing. When I connect the Nook to the PC or Mac, I cannot access the SDCARD partition to add files. I'm assuming I did something wrong with Minitool? I set it as FAT32 and Primary for the remaining space. Is there some other setting I didn't check, do I need to do something specific with the drive letter?
