Any way to read Kindle books on this?

webculb 01-31-2013 09:55 AM

I had one of these. They are so slow that they end up being completely useless. Yes, I rooted it and installed the custom ROM. Still, too slow to every be used.

To the OP that update is already out and can be installed right now. It does add Full tablet use. But, Like I said it is so slow you'll never end up using it. Even your kids will give up and just grab your ipad or real android tablet.

Yes, you can install the Kindle app, and for $20 if that is all you need, you will probably be satisfied. I bought them for my kids a couple years ago and hacked the crap out of them for fun. http://www.slatedroid.com/wiki/in...ital_Novel

Yes, they are slow and battery life is not great, but as a cheap e-reader, they are fine and you won't break the bank if you lose it.

If you just want to read though just get the basic kindle. It's not that much more, runs faster, and gets more than 3 hours of battery life.

This thing is such a piece of garbage that after returning it I never touched a Pandigital product again and never shopped at that store again for carrying such junk.

For 20 bucks it might be something for a tinkerer/maker though.

threebeers 01-31-2013 10:35 AM

Nice price, maybe the cheapest tab yet. What's stopping me is the battery and wifi. 1600mAh is a cel phone battery. That's not enough to for a 7 inch screen. For comparison the first gen Nook Color battery was 3200mAh. And it is a used battery. And there are reports of wifi issues. And it has a resistive nonresponsive screen. Still...

If you keep it on its stand and only use it for an hour at a time, close to a router, it might work for some dedicated applications, like a kitchen recipie thing.

djack15 01-31-2013 11:13 AM

This thing is trash. I bought one a refurb from Best Buy earlier this month for $33 and it just died last night. It had constant wifi connection issues where it would randomly just disconnect and then finally it wouldn't boot. It got stuck in a loop while booting and after resetting, it just won't turn on at all. It's going back to the store and I'm just getting a cheap tablet from Amazon. I won't touch another Pandigital product.

I know the thing is slow, but I just wanted something for my mom to check email with... it didn't even last long enough to give to her.

odie5533 01-31-2013 12:15 PM

I was hoping it would be an eink display, but instead it has a 2 hour battery life.

LOL, it's an e-reader. specs are not up to par for running any android apps. just because
you can hacked it to run android, doesn't mean that it will do it well. you don't buy
a yugo and expect ferrari performance out of it.

The custom Rom is faster than the offical firmware. Still a piece of trash.:vomit:
