What is this "20% Savings Code" you speak of?

EDIT er, $20 savings code

SlickDillie 02-01-2013 12:30 AM

Add in that $20 off, reward points, 18 months no interest and it's not too bad overall...

Jaxattaxs7 02-01-2013 01:11 AM

I still wish I bit on the Amazon BF deal for $962 this seems still too high for me. Any thoughts from other on buying advice?

lilaznjocky 02-01-2013 01:16 AM

At least have it at $999 from Fry's again, then I'll bite.

Frys.com sometimes or watch the Amazon warehouse.

Jaxattaxs7 02-01-2013 01:39 AM

Thanks for the advice I am thinking of pulling the trigger on this model this seems like a great buy to me if I want a computer to last me again another six years like my mbp gen 1 has done. Any thoughts on this build?

It appears to be their usual 'do store pickup, get a coupon code for a future purchase' type of deal since their main winter doorbusters page says you have to do store pickup for the $20 savings code.

rolfeskj 02-01-2013 03:32 AM

Does the basic MBP at $1049 have enough power (i5, 4gb, intergrated video) have enough power for everyday computing (web, farmville, etc) and some photo editing? What about in 3-4 years, is it worth upgrading to be more future proof? Fells weird to ask if a $1000+ computer has enough power being more of a pc guy. Thanks.

Been using this model for about a week now...it is light, thin, fast, powerful and the screen is absolutely stunning. I got mine from an Amazon reseller for 1799, brand new! I would look around online a bit for a better deal, but at 1999 it's still worth it.

feard 02-01-2013 04:42 AM

Don't forget the Open Box items as well. May be able to get another $150 with this sale and there is a 10% off coupon out there as well. This was discussed last week when the MB Air was on sale. YMMV.

I would say yes with minor modifications. I used to own this model and upgraded it to 8GB memory and an SSD. If you can get a good deal on a SSD and change it out, it would last at least 4 years. The base model as is, is good but I wouldn't count on it four years from now.

The short answer is yes. My wife is still happy as a clam with her 2009 MB and that gets daily use of the sort you describe. I upgraded hers from 2GB to 4GB which made a substantial difference. Of course this model is IB Core i5 (vs Core 2 duo) and with a faster bus. You may want to consider memory & SSD upgrades in the future but if you're happy with the way it performs out-of-the-box then that satisfaction will most likely continue.

mvarghese84 02-01-2013 05:37 AM

Im not seeing the savings when I look at the MBPs on the website. Is there a trick to getting the doorbuster prices to show?

willybguy 02-01-2013 05:46 AM

I also don't see the doorbuster price - not showing - nor is the $20 "savings coupon?"

Hmmm...it says "limited quantities." My guess is the MacBook deal is OVER.

BigCTM 02-01-2013 05:56 AM

All the doorbuster prices are not working. It's not just the macbook. It's like they pulled all the sale prices for some reason.

Phaenon 02-01-2013 05:58 AM

people the MBP line ups update in a couple months or sooner. buy by Feb 15th so you have the 45 day return policy if you are premier silver. better yet buy the apple refurb.

I have the 15" rMBP, and, while I love it, I'm not sure I can guarantee it will last you six years. One of the key variables to longevity of a computer is upgradability. This laptop is, for all intents and purposes, not upgradable. So what you buy today is what you'll have for as long as you own it.

why buy refurb when you can buy it new from JR.COM w/o sales tax and you get huge cashback?

UltiDealSeeker 02-01-2013 07:26 AM

Is the deal active? I still see $1,199.

Call best buy 1-888-237-8289 to get the price

BigCTM 02-01-2013 07:45 AM

Apple only had a record net profit of over 13 billion last quarter. Yeah they really need more promos. I do not see it.

Buy the open box. I got mine for 1630 + tax with over $100 in rz points (convert to Amazon gc) to mitigate the tax issue. I also got 0% apr for 18 months so I can pay it off $100/month. This is really the best deal you'll get and there are still some available if you take the time to research ones available at area stores.

pinoy530 02-01-2013 08:15 AM

These were showing the discount earlier this morning.

bunsen1 02-01-2013 10:25 AM

Prices correct in-store

I just bought the $1049 one in store. They had the displays tagged with the sale pricing and it rang up as such.

I know I don't get the $20 savings code, but I did have an "in store only" triple RZ point coupon to use. Seemed like the better deal.

sds413 02-01-2013 10:54 AM

Seems to be showing the updated price now.

Jaxattaxs7 02-02-2013 05:56 AM

Just bought the 13in 8gig retina 256ssd i5 for $1799. I will be snagging apple care at the apple store for $250 since I have an unused apple store gift card I got as a gift. AppleCare has always been well worth it for me. Was debating going to a 15" and i7 for $200 more but I prefer a laptop to be smaller and lighter with better battery life. Thanks for your advice guys.

I prefer square trade... cheaper and does what apple care does...

bballintom22 02-02-2013 06:18 AM

Thanks for the heads up on the deal...was able to get an open box 15.4" i7 8GB 512 SSD model (retail 2799) for about $1900. I also bought the ADH protection plan for $350 so the total came out to $2450 after tax.

The breakout was as follows:
Open Box price: 2307.99
Doorbuster discount (from this deal): - 200
10% open box discount: -210

and add in the 350 for the ADH plan

Total: 2250 before tax, 2410 after tax

Very stoked about the deal, and I confirmed that i have 30 days to return the protection plan for full refund if i decide against it.

Do all stores give the $200 discount or its YMMV? I got a rMBP yesterday for 1800 before the 10% discount. It was a brand new one and no even started once. I can check if they would oblige by wanted to be sure if this is a manager's discretion.
Do you have a receipt that I can use?

I definitely think it is YMMV...i tried after reading this user's post...he also has attached a receipt...

Mine was bought and returned within two days b/c the original buyer decided she didn't need a laptop this loaded so she went with a lower version. I checked and the battery cycle was only at 1 so very minimal use.

Thank you. I was not so lucky. They said the discounts are already built in and hence I cannot get the dollar off. Nevertheless I got an unused one with the Samsung panel for 1630 and no tax in DE. I am happy with what I got though the 200 would have made it slicker.

willygee 02-02-2013 02:33 PM

Posted this in the MBA deal from last week but didnt get a response:

I posted the question earlier about warranties. Any thoughts would be appreciated. In basic

1) Any advantages of a BB ADH vs SQ ADH? Geeksquad made it sounds very hassle free and even suggested I ask for a new battery and charger at the end of year 1 and it would be no hassle.

2) Leaning towards SQ ADH b/c it is longer coverage and i'm not convinced anything BB related is hassle free but also concerned about returning the warranty and if they give a hard time. Any tips to make me successful?

TIA!

justinre 02-02-2013 05:40 PM

In Marin, California, I just got a 13-inch 128GB Retina open box for $1250 after 10% off $1388 open box price. The manager wouldn't budge on the open box price since it was already discounted from $1700. I even tried to buy a Geek Squad service plan, but he wouldn't increase the 10% discount either.

Still, 28% off normal retail is a steal, compared to refurbs that are 15% off.

Thanks! Reppd.
