It is definitely a great deal, if anyone has any questions read through the last fp thread too.

ChuckDLC 02-02-2013 10:39 AM

Do people prefer this over the LG LM series?

Dave89 02-02-2013 10:40 AM

Sick deal, I'd get it if I didn't already have a tv exactly like this.

MarkY9425 02-02-2013 12:47 PM

Has anyone tried the Dual View Gaming with this set? LG advertises a Dual Play mode which require dedicated polar glasses for each player. I am curious to know if this has been tried on this TV. I would say that most 3D Passive tvs are capable.

Deal2go 02-02-2013 01:00 PM

a rare free shipping by FRYS but tax in IL kills the deal

How does this compare to the LG 55LM4600 ? I need something with good viewing angles and good image quality.

Looking at mine (TC-L55ET5) now.
Image quality is fantastic.
Angles: look good at any 'reasonable' viewing angle.

Brock Samson 02-02-2013 03:08 PM

:( I bought a 47 inch Panasonic over the summer for just under that price. So far it is great. This is definitely a great price

How is the 3D. I actually care. Not some much about 2D-3D, but 3d blus. Also do you find the limited file format compatibility (AVI) to be frustrating?

i have the 47 inch version of this. It was 499 in november at frys. I think the 3D is really good, not the best out there but stilll really good. I downloaded a file server like PS3 media player and I just connect to that and stream the movies when i dont want to use the xbox to steam um.

MrBlackFriday 02-02-2013 03:13 PM

Rofl, televisions in this range should be running about $750 on Amazon pretty soon.

It is pretty good. Good picture, nice large screen, excellent brightness for using is a very sunny room. Okay (as far as LEDs go) viewing angle. Poor sound.

Just okay for as far as LEDs go?? I would say this is one of the best because of the IPS...no?

sound is poor, but so are the rest of the models in this class lol

I have 1 3d bluray - Green Lantern.
It's neat. I have watched a few items in 3d, but i prefer 2d 99.5% of the time.
Minus movie theaters 3d - i can't compare it to anything else.
There are limited file capability. I have a seagate media payer which I use instead to watch files. It works perfectly.

the webcam feature is blocked on this unit and you have to use panasonic extremely high priced webcam to enable skype. without it you can not even recieve calls voice or video, not even messages...

jay-zala 02-02-2013 06:15 PM

This has been $899 for the last 6 months... As soon as it drops under $899, then it's a slick deal.

IIvSHaDoWvII 02-02-2013 07:26 PM

I got Best Buy to price match this last night.. Tax was roughly 80 bucks but at least now I can take it back to the store and exchange it if I have any issues.

So far I have been nothing but impressed.. I have been looking for a gaming tv for a while and this fits the bill nicely for an LED HDTV.. I haven't had any issues with motion blur playing 360 and ps3. The Viera menus are a bit clunky (similar to the older roku models) but the apps run fine once launched.

RyGuy1 02-02-2013 07:28 PM

Does anyone have info if this deal will be available tomorrow afternoon(Sunday EST)? Thanks

derter1 02-02-2013 07:30 PM

any cheap sound bar with sub to go with tv? the sounds suck on this tv

Giatros89 02-02-2013 07:46 PM

How does it compare to the plasmas? Specifically the only one that I know of in this price range the Panasonic 55" UT-50 ?

kikin81 02-02-2013 08:06 PM

Want to go to my local fry's and pick one up, but IDK, since this year's CES was all about 4K and OLED tvs. Plus, why isn't anybody waiting to see what apple releases? It might be a tv set, might be a set top box. We don't know, but what we do know is that if it does exist, it can have the potential to change the way we watch tv, like the iphone changed smartphones. I would wait just a few more months.

Loan_Crusader 02-02-2013 08:20 PM

watch out for flash lighting with this model. mine had three patches of flashlighting, lower left, lower left center and upper center. i had to do a return to amazon. The new set also has some clouding, but i'm going to just deal with it.

flashlighting are bright white blotches on a dark black screen, most noticeable during movies with the black upper and lower bars. i also noticed it when switching between inputs.

Both 4K and OLED will be much higher priced (so will whatever Apple releases i'd assume), and 4K in a 55" set is just bragging rights unless you are sitting like a foot away

why would i need white glove? it says on the frys site that they just help unpack it for you and plug in the tv to make sure its working. i don't think i need someone to help me unpack and plug in my tv.

cause if it doesnt work you dont have to sign for it and they take it back....without white glove for such a large TV, if you unpack it and it doesnt work i dont think you can return it, you have to call warranty

but how does that even work? is the delivery guy gonna plug in everything for me? is there going to be a frys rep that comes with the delivery guy and the delivery guy has to wait around for the frys rep to see if everything is working? or is a frys rep going to deliver the tv and hook everything up? there aren't any frys store here in ny so how would that work?

I did back in December and Amazon price matched no problem. They had to check the website and go through the checkout process at Fry's to see the total.

I own a 42" Panny from 2005 as I recall and it is in my son's room and it still looks as good as day 1.

As for the TV, I love this Panny. I love it! Really nice picture, 3D is great but this is my 1st 3D TV so I cannot really compare against others besides the movie theater. Netfilx, web access, and other apps are a bonus. The wi-fi is really fast too! I have a nettop connected to one of the 4 HDMI but use the built-in wi-fi on the TV more convenient.

Pretty cool I can control it from my Android Smartphone too!

If anyone cares, Panasonic is the highest reliability rated TV for this class. From my experience with other Panasonic products, I expect a long life from it.

In closing, I love mine. I hope that helps others of you on the fence.

pkeller 02-03-2013 09:15 AM

I missed out last time this went FP, this time I got one!

Last time it sold out online (no fry's within 100 miles of me here in CT) and I tried to get Worst Buy to price match - no luck. Guess making sales isn't important to them - oh well lost my business to fry's!

Thanks OP

frys will send an extra guy that are contracted with them to deliver and setup the system, theyre both delivery guys that are working under contract with frys...the end game is that they set it up and check everything for you, even take it up the stairs to your room. as oppose to freight delivery who just leaves a huge box on your doorstep. just giving you my two cents...

eldonv 02-03-2013 02:15 PM

Ack, I just got myself a Vizio m550SL that is still in the box. Do I keep it or return it for this! Don't care too much about the 3D, although it may be nice to have. Price on this is only about $100 more.

pharmdogg 02-03-2013 04:05 PM

I got it last time it went FP and its a really nice TV. I have to admit the 3D is a really good!! I'm impressed. I have a 42 LG passive 3D and and this is better IMO.

eldonv 02-03-2013 04:35 PM

Awesome. Vizio is returned and this is on it's way. Even though I have a Fry's nearby, couldn't pass up free shipping. (Moving a 55 inch tv in my little car while possible, is interesting)

4k and OLED....you better be prepared to spend $8k to $20K or wait for 3-5+ years if you want them anywhere near this price range.

An Apple Unit, why it would most likely have some good integration with current IOS devices and app support...imagine it would cost several times what this unit is going for today.

does the TV have an "off" setting in its audio menu to turn off the Tv speakers?
ie....for a surround sound environment

I know Samsungs have this feature and perhaps other brands

The TV "shipped" a few days ago but I still do not have a tracking number. I am assuming someone has to be available to accept delivery of the TV. So it would be nice to know when it will be delivered. Anyone have any experience with ordering a TV from Frys and average delivery times?

mine was shipped a few days ago too. they're using a courier called CEVA, which i've never heard of before. but they supposedly will call you up a few days before it actually gets to your place and schedule a time and day for them to deliver it. at least thats what i've read about them.

You are correct. I've bought TV's from Fry's before. I'm in the Northeast of the US and it took about a week to ship. It was delivered by CEVA. They called me 2 days prior to delivery to see if anyone would be home to sign for the the delivery. Then the day of delivery they called again to confirm the time they will deliver and they arrived on time. TV was delivered without any damage.

Call Fry's customer service with your order number and ask for the tracking number. I did this yesterday and mine is slated to arrive up here in CT on 2/12.

You can track your TV on CEVA's site once you have the tracking number:

How is this comparable to TCP55UT50 for $749 @ Costco? Do the price difference of $150 justifies having WiFi-Inbuilt & 4 3d passive glasses?

This deal is now done. Price in cart at Fry's is now $1,899

Well, for starters this TV is LED LCD vs the TCP55UT50 which is Plasma. Personally I prefer LED LCD over Plasma, your preferences may vary.

Both have wifi and 3D BUT this is a passive 3D and the TCP55UT50 is active 3D. That is a big difference. I prefer passive for a few reasons:

1) I wear glasses and polarized lenses (which is what passive uses) are eat to fit over my glasses and they even sell clip on lenses.

2) Passive 3D glasses are MUCH cheaper than active 3D glasses as they are simply polarized lenses. Active 3D glasses cost quite a bit per pair and you need to charge/replace the batteries in them.

So personally, I would pay $150 more to get the technology I like (LED LCD) and passive 3D so that I can watch comfortably.

You'll end up spending that $150 on active 3D glasses when/if your pair breaks or on batteries to use them. Besides I haven't noticed a difference in passive v. active 3D quality but that could be because I can't ever get the active glasses to fit right over my glasses.

WOW!! Just got my tv yesterday and i am impressed!! The picture is very good, very bright LED, and connecting to the internet was very easy. I connected to my Pandora acct. and was listening to some old school rock.
I am connecting my PC to it today to watch movies and games.
This is the nicest TV i've ever owned, i hope it lasts!
I can get a Squaretrade extended warranty for $120 for 4 yrs., is this a good deal?
Or should i wait?
How long are these tv's supposed to last?

just wanted to let everyone know that i got my tv today in NYC. no issues with CEVA. they delivered it at 1:50PM with a time window of 11AM-3PM. no issues with the packaging. no visible damage to the outside box. haven't taken it out yet because i have to move it to my new apt in a few weeks but i might just take it out and test it anyway.
