Thanks.

Is it strange that it also shows condition "new" under specifications?

it's best to consider it refurbished with the conflicting info, given the price.

superdeal 02-03-2013 01:19 PM

The specification says that it will play only MP4 video. Any tricks to make it play AVI, MPG files?

Believe if you download the free PLEX sever for your PC or dedicated box, and then install the PLEX channel on the Roku you can accomplish that.

Dang it, kind of P.O., the leaked information was that when this came back to TD in Beginning of February it was supposed to be at the $50 AR price (again). Not back to the more common $59 AR 8-( :(

PlayOn will also work by using the My Media channel, Video works fine but I've found I can't rewind or fast forward

What's support from Roku like on their refurb units?

I've never used support for mine but I bought a refurbed netgear Roku about a year ago and haven't had any problems, so I guess the best support is not needing it.

It also plays MKV files. Sucks it doesn't play AVI because it took quite a while to convert all my movies to MP4.

"Quality refurb"?

Well, that's the thing, they seem to work well for most people, but these refurbs have to come from somewhere, right? Thinking I'll probably go for it, since my Equiso isn't panning out as well as I hoped.

I've been looking for a Roku2 XS in the $50 range for a bit but lately I've been thinking that an android stick might work much better for me. For something of a toy at this point if it were 60 with no rebate I might jump.

Ah well, TU for electronics deals anyway.

Yeah, that's what I thought, now here I am ordering a Roku. Maybe the people with the MK808 and such have better luck, but for media usage, my Equiso seems to be mostly good for streaming local media via DLNA. Netflix and YouTube, not so good. I'm not saying the stick won't work for you, just make sure you read in-depth on the particular model you're looking at.

No kidding. The android stick waters are murky and filled with ridiculous acronyms and model numbers. I don't mind tinkering, soldering and modding but they make it hard to decide when the same model from different Chinese suppliers has such a different capability.

The Ouya and Gamestick from the Kickstarter world are due to release relatively soon along with more conventional offerings from Dell and Acer. It is going to be a pretty big change in the PC world pretty soon.

Roku does kind of make sense for most uses at the moment however.

Is this a good price for a refurb box? TIA.

The lowest I've seen a refurb XS go for is $50. Probably not worth waiting to save $10, you'll get so much use out of this, esp. if you find a new tv series to watch on Amazon Prime.

If you don't need the bluetooth remote and motion controls, I'd recommend the cheaper XD model. The bluetooth remote is nice but I prefer using the app...my phones already always in my hand. The XD doesn't have USB though...the 1 time I tried it on an 720p MKV it didn't work. Probably use Flex or a WD live if you want to play more file types.

What's the difference between the XS RB-3100B and the regular XS?

ynotgee 02-07-2013 05:18 AM

I heard I can stream mkv files from a mediaserver? Can Roku 2 XS do this?

Plex or something like that? Setting up own media-server with all the movies/tv show/etc I have.

Can you pick this up in store? I didint see a ship to store option. I know its free shipping but I drive by a TD store everyday and it would be very convenient to be able to pick it up.
