Flixster Disc to Digital Beta - 5 free credits

Download the desktop Flixster app and try their disc to digital beta. I got 5 free credits. It appears the credits are only good for SD copies. Their movie library isn't quite as extensive as Vudu's but I had no problem converting 5 DVDs I had. Movies will be added to your Ultraviolet collection.

Here's the download link

Thanks

Any chance you might explain exactly what this is, and instead of pointing to an executable file which could be filled with god-knows-what-malware, point to a website?

Absolutely. Sorry... Here's a link to Flixster's website answering all questions disc to digital.

http://flixster.desk.com/customer...ital-beta-

-Download the desktop app (I believe only Windows so far)

- Should see "Disc to Digital (Beta) on left hand side of along with 5 free credits

- Insert DVD into computer and wait for it to read it. If it's compatible you'll see options to add the movie to your library (Standard Def or High Def). Free credits (1 credit = 1 movie) are only good for SD.

Note that not all titles are eligible. But I didn't have much trouble finding 5 DVDs that were.

This is similar to Cinemanow's beta disc to digital (although Flixster was much easier for me to use) and Vudu just released their own beta. Up until fairly recently the only way to physically add a DVD or blu-ray to your Ultraviolet library (without having a UV code) was to take it to WalMart (Vudu) and that can be a chore.

Any link to the list of movies currently available for this? I already have a Flixster/UV account, so wouldn't mind taking advantage of this. Didn't see it in the above FAQ link.

Ditto. Do you need to receive an email in order to be eligible for five free transfers?

playcatcher 02-05-2013 08:23 PM

Did Vudu or CinemaNow have similar promotion to for trying out?

OP, did you open new flixster account to get 5 free transfer offer?
Thanks for the heads up, but we need more info...

Maybe try logging out and logging back in? I have heard that it's working for some people but not others. I don't know why. Maybe random.

I did not get an email. I happened upon it by a google search (I heard they were coming out with a disc to digital) and figured I'd check. I downloaded the desktop app in my original post and next to disc to digital beta it says something like "Try disc to digital beta. You have 5 free credits remaining." That's all I did. When I convert the movie the regular price ($2.50 I think for SD) is crossed off and replaced to $0 until the credits are used.

To my knowledge neither Vudu nor CinemaNow have had a recent free disc to digital promotion for their beta in-home conversion. I have used Vudu's without any problem but CinemaNow freezes up on me.

I already had a flixster account but I had only installed the android and iOS apps (you get free movies for downloading the apps). This was the first time I had downloaded their Windows desktop app.

I guess it's random. I tried logging out and logging back in, logging in with FB details as a new account.. nothing, haha. Oh well.

It wasn't working for me yesterday, but now I see an option that says "Disc to Digital (Beta)" on the left side. It says I have 5 credits.

Thanks. I'll give it another go tonight.

I had the option for Disc to Digital, but did not have any credits and it was prompting me for $2.50 to convert.

wizard7926 02-08-2013 06:05 PM

.. and now it won't even recognize my DVD, haha. Awesome software..

wizard7926 02-08-2013 08:06 PM

Finally got it to recognize the disc, and now it's giving me $2.50 SD and no option for HD. Last time, it at least gave me an option for HD!

Flixster is becoming dead to me here..

Some titles are not available in HD. Depends on the movie, or perhaps more importantly, the studio.

Did you ever get the credits to show up?

Nah, they still haven't shown. Maybe I should uninstall and reinstall the program..

Oh, and what I meant by that was, the last time I put that specific disc in, it gave me an HD option, but no longer.. did they "sell out" of the HD version? :wink2:

Hey just wanted to bump for a follow up? Did you even get the 5 credits?
I just installed it and though the beta option is there, there are no 5 credits :(. I'll keep trying but just wondered if you ever got the option for them?

I recently (December 2012) got into the whole UV process. And was looking for something the other day & stumbled on Cinema Now (now) being linked to UV - which I guess it was back in Dec 2012 as well but nothing on the UV website pointed me to that information at that time (only Flixster & Vudu) and since I had a Universal Movie w/ UV, and had played with pocket blu-ray before I knew that - that also sort of worked for their own movies.

I've now linked my account to them which means on pretty much every device I have I have at least 1 if not 2 options to stream form my growing UV collection (Vudu & Cinema Now).
I see that Cinema Now had the first beta & Vudu + Flixster added their own at home Disc to Digital process which is pretty positive.

Well, I haven't checked it in a while, but got so frustrated that I don't really even care anymore, haha. I'll never be buying the service, so.. (but I'll check again tonight for posterity, heh)

No idea if this is why or related but it sound like the older install file that you used may be why were not getting the free credit offer. After reading this thread thru: http://forum.vudu.com/showthread....61&page=10

Do you / anyone still have that original .exe install? Not sure if that would work of if they would just download the newest version that I just got anyway or not.

Thanks, I read in a much longer thread that tracks the progression that they had a lot of issues not just only some getting the credits offered but also the option being flaky as to whether it's there or not.
http://forum.vudu.com/showthread....61&page=10
Or it's just random - somehow flixster decided who gets the offer & who doesn't
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthre...072&page=2

Hope you get lucky.

I honestly don't know. My guess would be whatever file you downloaded Flixster would make you update to the latest version. But I am not sure.

I downloaded the exe file in the original post shortly after they released the beta disc to digital. The credits showed up immediately without doing anything else, and redeemed just as easily (assuming the movie was available). Obviously it didn't work for everyone. I have heard of people emailing them asking about the credits not showing and getting them. Flixster does have some excellent service (especially compared to CinemaNow) but I don't know if they would do anything now.

Wish I could help more.

Hey that was actually a great help. IDK if it was because of the email, I'm thinking yes. Bc i had installed it, then I logged in logged out a few times that day before leaving it alone. Then tried the next day still nothing. Sent an email and the CS agent said log out (I already was) and log back in, and when I logged in the credits were there. Not sure if they did it but that is my feeling. :repped: ya.

EDIT: P.S. So I have a stack of $1 & $1.50 DVDs from Pawn America. About 1/3 of them were eligible for Flixster to convert that probably wasn't so bad bc I then had less to decide over (but would have liked to add Super Troopers & Scary Movie 2) just for some giggles on demand but no dice thru Flixster. I tried to pick movies that I thought didn't need the HD quality.
Anyway it only took about 30 seconds to detect and add each of the 5 free movies (after the time it took finding which ones from the list etc. that flixster could add and then decidng which ones I wanted to add).

Hey just to follow up, so did you use the link on the website or the link the OP posted. And did you have the credits instantly?
What version of the software do you have?

Thanks

changeup45 03-22-2013 12:47 PM

Thought I'd update this since I know some had issues redeeming the free credits before.

Flixster is now advertising their disc-to-digital right there when you log into your account online. It says:

"To get started, install Flixster Desktop on your PC or Mac
Start now and get 5 free copies!"

So, before the credits just showed up (for some), now they are advertising it. Here's a link to the latest version of their desktop software:

http://www.flixster.com/d2d/downloadFD/

That's a download link. If you log into your account you'll see the disc-to-digital link there on the left side.

If you have tried before unsuccessfully I urge you to try again (if you want the 5 free copies). I am determined for this to work for everyone! :-)

wizard7926 03-22-2013 12:52 PM

I'll have to try again, I keep forgetting about it.. pinning the thread now! Thanks changeup!
