Wait until Feb 8th to get 25% off if you don't want it so much and can take the risk of OOS

Yeah ... the only problem is the risk of going OOS otherwise 25% is better ...

Yep, also if you want to go through the hassle, order one now and if in stock order again when it's 25% off and return the one you bought with 20% off...

Can I use reward certificate? It seems it is not part of bestbuy since we can not use regular check out.

Pretty good price for ivy. You'd normally see this for ~$100 more.

Due to SD effect, it probably will. :) But I always wonder why people keep buying computers, don't really need many, otherwise you have the hobby of stocking up computers, just like I stock up Nike shoes

Understand what you mean. The only room that doesn't yet have a laptop is my basement restroom... I put a budget of $250 for the restroom, so wondering if this laptop is too much.

My mom's last laptop was purchased probably around 2009. It works fine, but I just recently switched them to using an HDHomerun prime and Windows Media Center, and her current one cannot properly stream the video. I think this is a worthy upgrade to her laptop (which was one of those $200 emachines BF specials).

B/B 02-03-2013 10:41 AM

People still use laptops? lol

scooby8611 02-03-2013 10:42 AM

Got one. Don't need it, but a friend or family member always seem to need a laptop. I think that anytime you can get an ivy bridge i5 for under 400...you are doing well for yourself.

This will be OOS shortly today, not gonna last as this is about the best bang for the buck on a 3rd gen i5. Downside for me is no USB 3.0. Still if I was not already flush with laptops, I would be in. You would be very unlikely to find these specs for under $400 currently. As soon as it hits FP it will be blitzed. I am proud to say I could have got one. Run, don't walk.

All 3 are not a good deal but If you intend to buy now then go for HP Probook but you can wait so you will get a better deal.

Thank you, that was what I was thinking, but my "I want something now" part of my brain was taking over. I think I'll wait it out and look for something that is faster, better, stronger, what-have-you. :) I got my current laptop about 3 years ago when black friday's had laptops under $300 that were really nice considering the technology. Have been disappointed lately by the deals..

Code does not appear to work on regular best buy site. The price would be $359.99 with the code if someone has the inclination to call and try to argue with the customer service reap about it. I tend to not have luck arguing for discounts--I'm told I don't speak stupid, the language of customer service reps--so won't try.. I'll haunt bestbuy.com and the local store, eventually an i5 will go enough under $400 for me to bite..

Way to much for 14" and only i5 and its only 32GB SSD which is like $40 to buy. You can buy any laptop and put SSD in it 120gb SSD are under $100 now.

I just bought this last week on clearance for $698 so this is a good price. Does anyone know if Bestbuy will price match itself with this deal???

By the way this is a Ivy Bridge i5 4gb ram 32gb ssd + 500gb 5400rpm hdd 1600 x 900 screen (main reason I chose this laptop over other deals). It's not as fast as I would like but overall I'm satisfied. I'd be happier if Bestbuy will price match it!!!

You'll like the Asus, fun thing about it is you can get the dock and be able to connect a flashdrive to it via usb port. When we got the tablet it was the only one with usb ports, a major selling point for someone in school who needs to be able to easily port files from one computer to tablet to laptop, etc. Good speed, nice system, reliable thus far..

Thank you. Good to know. I appreciate the input. I was a bit hesitant about the 1GB vs 2GB RAM difference.

It's a pretty sweet laptop. If I'm not mistaken, the SSD is mSATA, so you can upgrade the cache medium. It is also possible to repurpose the mSATA as a boot drive.
It's realistic battery life is between 5 and 9 hours; and build quality is very good.
Overall, it's a great balance of hardware and build quality..
It's a gamble, but personally, I'd hold out until the 8th for the extra 5% discount

I got the Asus X501a [bestbuy.com]. No one mentioned in the thread yet so I'm just looking for some opinion (if it was a good buy or not)...
I thought it was a better deal than the $339 before-coupon Toshiba [bestbuy.com]: larger hard drive, faster processor, a USB 3.0 port, lighter in weight, and I rarely use CD's anymore so wouldn't miss the optical drive that the Asus lacks.

Possibly. The rest of us didn't even have an option to ship so it's probably not going to happen for the rest of us.

Any comments on the Asus vs. Toshiba cheap laptops?

I selected an option to "Ship to Store", and it shows the tracking for ship to store status. May be you can check and see if there is any change for you.

Picked up one of these [bestbuy.com] adapters for a little over $14 shipped. Pretty phenomenal deal if you ask me, now I won't have to go behind my bed to unplug my adapter every time I go to Uni with my laptop. Just leave one in the backpack and one at the house.

Ordered Dell i5 laptop w/ 20% off code on Sunday. I'm gonna pick up the laptop today. Do you know if they'd honor today's 23% off discount instead?

I just purchased an XPS i5 for $674.00 last week. If this Alienware had a 3rd gen i7, then I'd return mine and get in on this. Too bad it's a 2nd Gen i7, but still a great system.

It bugs me that these manufacturers skimp on "4gb ram", "32gb ssd", and "500gb 5400rpm" at these prices. They could easily upgrade this to 8gb ram, 64gb ssd and at least 7200 rpm hd for the secondary drive with minimal extra cost. 32gb ssd is barely enough to hold the os.

What're you talking about? That's plenty for the OS. It's certainly not meant to hold your other programs, but it's definitely enough for Windows, even formatted.

Which version of Windows are you talking about? IIRC Windows 8 used about 19gb on a clean install. Add in pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys and that drive is more than full.

Well, either. Windows 7 is about 14-16GB, and Windows 8 looks to be 18-20GB. A formatted 32GB SSD should look to have around 27-30GB of available storage. You can adjust the storage space delegated for paging.

If i'm not mistaken it is a hybrid drive. Moving files between ssd and normal disk is control by the harddrive it self. So end user will only see it as a single drive.

This is correct, if left in "cache" mode. Its just extra high speed memory.

jayyysunnn 02-11-2013 03:53 PM

ugh i feel like a noob for missing this deal....

anywho, i talked to a best buy worker and he told me that
"clearance.bestbuy is a DIFFERENT STORE from bestbuy.com. they are affiliates, but considered a different store. meaning that Best Buy gift cards don't work with clearance.
it's kind of stupid, but idk hahah.
