Panasonic Smart Viera 55'' UT50 Series Full HD 3D Plasma HDTV $699 at Sears - Very YMMV

1 Attachment(s)
Just picked up a "Panasonic Smart Viera 55'' UT50 Series Full HD 3D Plasma HDTV" Model# TC-P55UT50 at Sears for $699 (plus tax). You can find them online for free shipping/store pickup but it would appear they are out of stock a lot of places I checked in California. Just checked Vegas and they are in stock in 3 stores there. You have to go all the way through checkout to see the $699 price, it shows as $1399 until you actually reach the checkout screen.

Good luck!

P.S. Sorry if this is a repost, I searched but didn't see anything.

mrbb008 02-03-2013 09:59 PM

I got the costco one for $749. I think the extra $49 is well worth the costco extra 2 years warranty and no hassle return.

Patchinko 02-03-2013 09:59 PM

Thanks. Looks like that's without any 3D glasses, is that correct?

Is the Costco deal the same model? And did it come with glasses? Don't see it on their site. Thanks mrbb008.

There is another deal on a 55" Viera (LED) at Fry's with 4 pairs of glasses, $899: http://slickdeals.net/f/5835198-5...ore-Pickup

bbedwards 02-03-2013 10:01 PM

Hot if you can find it. None in stock here (SLC).

Mako1215 02-03-2013 10:09 PM

No 3D glasses, and needs Wi-Fi adapter.

Baddogdaddy 02-03-2013 10:21 PM

Smokin price, none local for me but I'd jump on it if there was.

22chamkila 02-03-2013 10:26 PM

If it is the same as http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Panas...&cp=1&lp=1 this one, then Best Buy has the same price too.

DFW seems to be cleared out at bestbuy and sears.

Crap, just ordered this one from costco last week, getting delivered this week. I wonder if I can call and cancel. Gotta love how these things keep going down in price.

Baddogdaddy 02-03-2013 11:20 PM

Damn all the best buys around me have it available for $699. I may have to bite

I agree, But Its nice Option for people who are not Costco members Or just want to save more $$. I agree For $49 dollars for two years warranty cant beat that.

15% restock fee with Sears for a non-defective (I just don't like it) return

Daemon_EA 02-04-2013 12:09 AM

Watched supperbowl at a friends house where he got one of these for the game.

My gal turned to me and said "this looks way better than ours.... I think it is ok we get a new TV now"

:)

iluvgudeals 02-04-2013 02:28 AM

pretty good deal.. just no where to put it until the house is finished in july.

Tintinet 02-04-2013 02:43 AM

Buy with Discover card, get extra year of warranty. And, if you buy it on line, through ShopDiscover, 5% back. More back possible via Upromise and UP CC, on line. Might trade DC rewards for Lands' End cards at 20% discount and use them at Sears for purchase also.

mutha_scratcha 02-04-2013 04:30 AM

Great price, found one about 100 miles away. I'll pass.
I don't trust sears inventory though. You may end up with a cancellation email after the store opens and realizes the inventory is off and they can't find one.
Nice find Rook

Nice deal! I am tempted for the 3D. But I will pass. Looks like a good deal!

kwtrading 02-04-2013 05:31 AM

Just ordered it! Thanks OP!
My closest available was 90 miles away but I'm driving right by there tomorrow for work and can pick it up. Was going to get the Costco deal later this week but prefer this despite Costco's extra year of warranty. Have never had a problem with a Panasonic product.

executivedealer 02-04-2013 05:55 AM

2 years with Costco is awesome, plus you can get an extra 3 years making 5 years total with square trade warranty for $60. Totally worth it with their return policy in case anything goes wrong :-)

tennis8363 02-04-2013 06:07 AM

Available for free delivery to me.

jkoravos 02-04-2013 06:18 AM

Sears has one local-ish to me. Super tempting deal. I said I'd jump on this if it hit $700, now I'd holding out for $600. :)

eng70778 02-04-2013 06:30 AM

Still waiting for my P50UT50 bought from Amazon for $599 to be delivered. Does the extra 5" worth for $100 more plus tax?

I usually prefer Costco - but in this case - my Credit card gives me 2 years of warranty and also 5% Discover Cashback means that Costco is $85 more (Unless your an executive member - then you get 2% Costco Rewards and 1% American Express to almost negate the cashback). My Amex Rewards are garbage though. They are like 1 point per dollar but points are like .75% when trying to redeem for any giftcards. If you buy most things with the points - they are way overpriced.

Correct me if I'm wrong, my understanding on the return policy is 6 months on TV's. well from the TV I purchased last time at Costco.

It is 90 days with Costco for TVs. I was talking about the warranty that comes with purchasing this TV, you get 2 years of free Costco Concierge service warranty and the option to buy an additional years for $60 through squaretrade.

If you try to check out it gives you the item not available, I tried the stores in Frisco, The Colony, Plano, Denton, Lewisville, McKinney.

Yes, indeed, crappy Best Buy, unlike Sears and Fry's they show the availability on same page as soon as you enter ZIP code.

I actually made the mistake of going to my local Sears store on Sunday morning, since this was featured prominently in the circular. Turns out they have none in stock this area, and you can't even order one on line. I was then subjected to a very serious bait and switch, and told a bunch of lies and half truths by a very aggressive sales guy. I ended up walking out in the middle of the pitch. This really takes Sears down a notch or two in my book.

Foop 02-04-2013 08:22 AM

I bought this TV at Costco on Saturday for $750.00. WORTH EVERY PENNY! Stunning picture and size for the money. It's huge so, if you can get free delivery, go for it or you'll need to rent or borrow a truck or SUV that can handle such a large box.

Set the picture mode to "Cinema" for pretty good quick calibration. The picture was dark and the colors muted when I first turned mine on but putting it in cinema mode gave it great color and contrast.

ecnica 02-04-2013 08:35 AM

I found some settings for the 50" model of this TV if anyone is interested.

ahh, i see they lowered the retail price this week...either way im pretty sure they charged u tax on the $799.99 instead of $749.99 if u do the math. so its an extra $5 tax on top of the extra $50 you are paying.

22chamkila 02-04-2013 10:50 AM

They charged me $750 * 6.25% (Mass) = $46.87. (I know they charged me $46 something in tax).

The Panasonic USB wifi adapter is usually 2x the cost. Basically you get the adapter that I linked, press the WPS button on the adapter, press the WPS button on your router within two minutes and they are connected. Plug a CAT5 cable between your adapter and your TV and you're set.

So...

Router -> 'wifi' -> Adapter -> CAT5 cable -> TV.

I just returned one of these from a sears.com order in the SF Bay Area. Maybe it will show up in stock or on sears outlet soon?

The glare on the screen was almost mirror-like. If you can't control the light in you're viewing area, you might want to move up to an ST50. It was a shame since picture is beautiful in the dark, best bang-for-the-buck if you can control ambient lighting

Pass. Still waiting on the 60u50 for $650 or maybe even $600. Rather take the 5 extra inches over pointless 3D and smart features.

Anyone know the odds of the 60u50 going on sale $600?

kwtrading 02-05-2013 04:15 AM

Anyone know if the connections on the back of this tv (hdmi, etc) point down towards the bottom of the tv or straight back? Shopping for mounts and wondering how much breathing room I need behind the tv. If anyone has a mount they recommend for it let me know that too. Thx.

I highly doubt it will go that low when they can have them fly off the shelves at $699.

They point straight back toward the wall, and they're on the far left side of the TV.

i highly doubt the 60u50 will see $600 price, they are selling like hotcakes at $700 and they are phasing out this 2012 model TV to get ready for the 2013 model therefore i dont see $600 happening for the 60u50. its already a steal at $699...if u dont buy soon u will have to wait (aprox 11-13 months) till the end of 2013 for the 2013 models to go on sale and hit similar prices.

Agreed. I was waiting for the 50u50 to hit $550 but havent seen a deal on it in weeks. I jumped on the 60u50 from fry's at $700. You might see the 50" come on sale for $500 or $550 but i doubt the 60" is going any lower. Good luck though!

Picked mine up tonight at the Kings Plaza Sears in Brooklyn, NY. I asked the kid who rolled it out of the back if they have sold many of them in the last 24 hours. He looked at me like I had two heads and said "since Christmas we haven't sold much of anything. it's dead." I guess that is Sears for you.
Thanks again for posting.

I ordered online from Costco last Friday. Can anyone comment on how long it took them to get their TV standard shipping w/ white glove? They changed the status to shipped on Monday but the Home Direct USA tracking page doesn't even show it as picked up yet. Just impatiently waiting and wishing it would've come surprisingly fast.

EDIT: I should add I'm in Seattle and it's shipping from Mira Loma, CA.

Whoa. We're apparently not going to get ours in the same amount of time. That'd be like us getting ours tomorrow and late last night it JUST changed to Picked Up. Ugh...

Well, I tried making another thread, but it disappeared. The Panasonic P55UT50 is now $699 at the Costco B&M at Castleton, Indianapolis. They doubled the rebate until 2/24 from $50 to $100. If you picked up this recently from Costco, it might be worth your while to check your store for a price adjustment!

Yep, I was denied, too.

I didn't have a Costco membership and decided against getting one since I never shop there so this cost almost exactly $900 all-in-all w/ tax, surcharge, and white glove. I'm wondering if there's any justification at this point to cancel and wait for something else, but I'm otherwise okay with it. I just wonder if there's any other deal I could snatch up real soon, but it seems everything's drying up and I just want a TV ASAP.

I received my TV a week ago in Seattle. It took 10 days to deliver. My TV sat in Auburn for 5 days until I finally called the distribution center (# is located on the tracking site). They lost the paper work, but were able to get it out the next day. On delivery day they didn't call 30 minutes ahead of time, but called right as they were at my door. I also suggest having them open the package for inspection before signing off. Give them a call earlier than later!

Why plasma over LED?

Mine arrived at the distribution center in Kent last Wednesday or Thursday. They called Thursday to schedule delivery the following Tuesday - 5 days. A couple Hispanic guys showed up a couple hours earlier than I was expecting at ~9:30 AM. Like I said, I paid for white glove, but the two guys just brought it in and the older guy turned to me immediately after setting it down and asked if that was fine and moving to leave. I had to register what he was saying and asked if they could just unpack it and put it on the stand and the older guy sighed and looked away, and then him and his younger helper just got to racing opening the box, taking it out, grabbing at the manual and taking out the remote, and they obviously weren't familiar with putting it together as the older guy was just racing to screw in the stand, didn't have a screwdriver on him and asked me for one, and was just sort of stripping the screws - then realized he had to undo everything he did to put on another part and so on. When I realized these guys weren't really professional, I just made sure to look at the screen and then wanted to get it on the stand and get them out. I was expecting more deliberate attention for paying for white glove... Not impressed with Costco and the company they use for white glove delivery so far.

Luckily, everything seems fine and I'm enjoying my TV for the past couple days, getting used to it. Only thing I notice is a bit of buzzing on lighter scenes which I've read can be due to loose screws inside and got a price match to their recent online price drop.

Glad you got your TV! Agreed, I won't be buying anything from Costco.com if they are going to be using such a horrible delivery service. I too got a price match, so in the end, all is good! The TV is amazing for the price.

I bought online. Would Costco price match with the in-store price?

I was denied. They told me the online and warehouse prices are totally separate. Once the online price dropped to $699 I called customer service and was OK'd a refund in less than 30 seconds. :bounce:
