Requires Capsule to download and play

Awesome. Anyone know if these will be steam keys?
|
Most likely not. You will probably have to use GMG's own client "Capsule".

The capsule just is used to download the games, you dont need to have it running afterwards to play if these games use it. |
February 8th at Midnight GMT = February 7th 4pm PST right?

but if you gotta have DRM.. steam is the one Id go with. its convienient and I Id hate to be buying games over again or never playing them because I forgot I had it on another of my 50 random gaming accounts if I move to another computer or something. probably good to trade in though towards another game if they let you.. |

Also, I wanted to add that Ninja Blade is a really fun game, but you will most certainly need a controller to play. It has a lot of action and a lot of quick time events (QTEs) that are visually fraking stunning. You'll be jumping off of skyscrapers, slicing flying monsters in half, jumping off of the pieces, and running down the side of a building, only to do some more crazy things on the way down. Think Ninja Gaiden meets Asura's Wrath and you will have an idea of how it plays. It's a truly amazing game that missed a lot of press. It was made by the same people behind Dark Souls, From Software, and was never released on anything but Xbox 360, and 6 over months later, now on PC. For the low price of free, it definitely deserves a shot. I know lots of you have 10+ games in your backlog (hell, I have WAY more than that), but install it, fire it up, and see what you think. Reply and let me know!!

OP edited original post and it seems you do get the game permanently if you "buy it" at the allotted time slot. Good luck everyone!

I wonder if you'll be able to trade these games (your cdkeys) back to them for store credit like they've done in the past :O

I use steam for easy updates, no install problems, easy forum support and man, this sucks, but i really keep my games on steam for achievements. If there were no achievements, i would've chosen no drm. The indie scene should really create an open achievements platform.

Games are being given away in 24 hour sequences starting on Friday, Feb 8th GMT:
Zombies is available from 1200 GMT Friday 8th for 24 hours, FREE! Ninja Blade is available from 1200 GMT Saturday 9th for 24 hours, FREE! Unstoppable Gorg is available from 1200 GMT Sunday 10th for 24 hours, FREE! Superstars V8 Next Challenge is available from 1200 GMT Monday 11th for 24 hours, FREE! Quote from Greenman Gaming site: "We'll also be ending the giveaway sequence with a competition for XBL or PSN points (winner's preference), so console gamers still stand to gain from entering!" |
The V8 supercars game might be worth it.
|
I'm not liking that this Playfire wants my Playstation Network/Steam account name
UPDATE 2/7/13: Apparently this requirement was change at the Playfire website. I just entered a fake Xbox account name and it said it couldn't be found and let me create an account anyway. So, You don't have to use your real accounts names(if you don't want to)to create a Playfire account , just use a fake account name for any one of the linking account. |

Looking forward to play Ninja Blade and Superstars V8 Next Challenge. I'm glad I can use my Logitech driving wheel that been collecting dust for the last year.

wonder if these games will have a $.50 trade in value after the give-a-ways are over like the other freebies on GMG.

So I had no choice but to follow along with them and close the dispute, forever losing my ability to dispute the transaction in the future.. After another week, the billing issue was finally fixed but they never apologized for anything they did. |

However, holding every other prior transaction hostage simply because you dispute a charge is questionable, to say the least. I might normally recommend you also bring that up with your credit card company, many of them do not like anything that causes consumers to question the advisability to going "cashless." However, you used Paypal which has a notorious reputation. It's why I've refused to get "verified" by Paypal - the lack of legal protections for whatever account you "link." In fact I don't even have a debit card, also due to the legal protections, or lack thereof. File the complaint. You also might try the FTC, but I used them during a VOIP shutdown several years ago, and at the time (Bush admin) they were toothless. Due to regulatory capture, I have serious doubts it's improved much. A strong State Attorney General is often the last fallback for consumer abuse these days, and as I said - in many states they are already de facto a branch of the business lobby. In fact the US Chamber of Comerce, a very pro-business lobbying group has made it their business to make sure like-minded people become judges, Attorney's General, and to make sure "model legislation" (their terminology, not mine) get's passed that heavliy limits consumer rights. |
Thanks op!
|
do u need to give them real id in playfire?
|
Playfire wasn't detecting my gaming profiles right from the two sites I tried - but it eventually timed out and let me register anyway, so it worked out.
Thanks for the heads up, OP! (Also, as an aside on the subject of Steam, I'm of the opinion that the service itself is solid but the customer service is garbage and has entirely too much ability to take your games away. I prefer GoG whenever possible because at least you can back up your downloads from there and play them without begging permission later.) |
Are they going to run out of the free games quickly each day or do they have enough to give away for everyone so we don't have to hurry? Unfortunately I will be imprisoned at work where I can't access game sites until I get home 2 hours after the sale starts tonight.

BTW, these will NOT have any trade-in value. ZOMBIES showed $0 as trade-in value when bought. |

Setting up the Playfire account was a bit of a pain. GMG wouldn't let me link it immediately after creation. So I logged into playfire (and turned off email notifications, etc) and when I came back to GMG it recognized it.
|
The music and gameplay is AMAZING for free!!! HUGE THANKS!! I bought the iOS app just to show support!
|
I don't know what this Playfire thing is, but I'm not giving them any of my actual gamertags from different systems. Tried to give it just XFire, which I could care less about, but it just sat spinning for like 10 minutes with no activity and eventually I just gave up. If I could get them just by being a GMG customer, that would be fine, but with this whole "sign up for new shady game service that monitors and collects all of your information", I think I'll pass.
Update: Eventually it just gave up checking, but allowed me to proceed, so I signed up since they don't require anything really other than an email address. |
The game is absolutely terrible.

I love how I am downloading the game right now and in the purchasing window @GMG it's still processing my order!

Seriously it's a free game... Trying out games like this is fun, you might not like it but other people might and possibly the author(s) of the game will get some recognition... State of the art graphics don't mean a thing without gameplay. Gameplay is everything....;) |

It could also be the case that this statement is misleading/wrong and none of them will have any trade-in value, so make your own conclusions. |
Wow, these games look pretty lame (Zombies). Even free it is not worth it IMO.
|
These games may very well have a trade in value in the future...but never have a trade in value when free...
Quote from Playfire.... "What if my computer can’t play these games, or I don’t like them? Here’s a tip - GMG lets you trade games back in, and at some point soon in the future, these games will be worth credit you can trade back in, so even if you don’t like these games, you can trade them back later on to grab money off other PC gamers, or even console games if you live in the UK." |
I worry about my eyes after playing this game :) I pass
|
I entered my handles in playfire and it's been sitting at Loading.. "Checking Handle" foreverrrr
edit: finally timed out XD |
The only reason I got this was to bank on future trade in value... Which hopefully it will have. Maybe. Possibly. Eventually. Somewhere in time and space... Ahh who knows? Thumbs up anyways

The majority of achievements fall into two categories. Normally progressing through the game and getting the achievement for just playing, or pointless time sinks, some of which take countless hours to get. I really dont care about a gamerscore or a useless number tied to my gamer tag, and Id rather spend all those hours doing something else. So, maybe you feel a sense of accomplishment for having a game drain hundreds of hours of your life to get a popup notification saying you accomplished some random goal a developer threw into the games coding at the last minute, but I certainly dont. |
It explicitly says "This game cannot be traded in." Soo I don't know how we will be able to trade it in for anything in the future. I get a feeling it was just a copy and paste error on OPs behalf?
|
This is a lot of work. I can't seem to login to my GMG account now. I just go in a constant loop.
Edit: Worked with IE. Didn't work on Chrome. |

It baffles me how one can be so closed minded to think something that is completely optional and adds a slight level of depth to the overall gameplay is ruining video games. |

I never forgot about the third category. I only said the majority of achievements fall into the first two I mentioned. I wont deny that theres achievements that rely on skill alone to get. I dont exactly like waltzing through a game either with no challenge, but I dont need silly popups all over my screen telling me I got to the next level or reloaded my weapon 1000 times. But the bottom line is pointless achievements do much more to hurt games than enhance them. People start playing to get a number next to their name that doesnt mean anything, instead of playing the game itself to enjoy the story and gameplay. Thats why we have all the lame facebook pay to win type games. People just want to see a bar fill up fast and have more points than the other person. |

We are processing your order...:sleepy:.
|
I have been gaming since original Atari and I see no point in playing a game for a silly badge next to my steam account. I agree that some things that give you something extra (like hitpoints/armor/extraperks) are worth it but when you have to play a game like it's a job to get bragging rights it loses it's appeal. But usually acheivements don't give you perks, side quests do. I can say that when I do get an acheivement I say to myself "cool", but I don't strive to get all of them. You guys just need to agree to disagree and move on...

http://www.techspot.co I mean come on now....you didnt even answer the man's question. Steam are you that dumb or blind? Do you always have to copy and paste all your answers with something completely different? Well anyway, Valve is in some legal battles right now with the European courts. I hope they get whats coming to them. They are the ones who dug themselves into this hole with their "zero tolerance" policy regarding....well pretty much EVERYTHING. From accounts, to extra copies, to customer service |

I signed up this morning to PLAYFIRE. I may be a coincidence but I was locked out of my email account this afternoon. Had to text microsoft to get back in. Only this I did out of the ordinary was sign up to Playfire. |
Just noticed this after signing up, but they don't actually have "Playfire Gamercards" for XFire or Steam. My PSN connected right away, and the XBL one was just laggy, but if you enter your XFire or Steam handles, it most likely won't go through.

I like achievements in many games, so long as they are implemented reasonably well. Achievements that offer additional challenge or a different way to replay a game are good. Getting an achievement just for completing a level or performing some other basic task, on the other hand, is not particularly interesting. I can see why developers include those though, since it allows them to track how far people get, and whether many players quit at a certain point, which can actually be beneficial to their future games, since it can help them identify problem areas. It also provides them with free advertising every time someone checks their "Friend Activity" page and sees that someone's been getting achievements in a particular game, so I suspect they won't be going anywhere any time soon. Just thought I'd chime in and say that Zombies doesn't require Capsule to play actually. It does need to to download, but once it's downloaded, it's DRM free so you can move it to any pc you want.
|
Thanks OP! Can't pass up free games (especially when they're DRM free).

"(Please note that due to contract restrictions we're not able to sell this title in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Guernsey and Japan. Unfortunately this means that users from those regions will not be able to get this free game)." - http://blog.greenmanga

Do i have to enter billing/ credit card info to purchase ?

Looks like the Zombies deal is dead. That's the only one I wanted. I don't even think that was 24hrs! They should have had it free all weekend. Epic fail.
Steam is better anyways. Screw this noise. |

Or maybe just worth your time downloading. |
Your average achievements fan:
http://lurkmore.so/images/9/94/360_Kid.jpg Achievements can be said to cause OCD-like symptoms in those who choose to chase after them obsessively. I've always thought that, like day one DLC, such are an obnoxious development in gaming pretty much engineered to keep people addicted to a game they'd otherwise be sick of playing. Common sense ftw. Making a game "OMG so addicting! ^o^" rather than "naturally" compelling in the long term is taking the lame, easy way out, imnsho. Don't try and talk sense to these kids...it's all they know. Now get off my lawn. |
Come to think of it, I have most of these as DRM free downloads from IndieGala.....

Played the game for about five minutes. It seems they didn't even try to make this game work well on the PC. It runs fine, but the menus can only be navigated with the arrow keys and they still reference the ABXY buttons which is very confusing.
Good thing it was free. |
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Green Man Gaming
That is where it downloads the games to. You can go in there and take the .exe Setup file out and place it elsewhere in case you never want to use Capsule again. ^^^ Windows 7/8 location |

I have never been able to make a complete transaction with GMG. Is this true for anyone else? I either get "Your order is processing" for infinite time, or in this case, the "Buy Now" button does not respond. The only way I have been able to purchase from them in the past is by calling support.
I really want to like GMG, but they have been nothing but fail for me. |

Also, for those wondering. Ninja Blade requires some serial that the Capsule client gives you on the first startup. Just save that serial and the install files and you don't need the capsule client to run on another machine. |
So.. its not working for me. Clicking "Buy" and nothing happens.
|
After ordering, do I need to download immediately?
How many computers can I install it on? |
No way to get Zombies?

Ninja Blade is nearly impossible to play without a controller. What a waste of precious hard drive space.

Again with the hang up on proccessing your order...
Meanwhile I am downloading it.... If anyone has this problem check you e-mail.. http://i92.photobucket |
Funny, I just checked their website yesterday to see if there was any release date for this game on Xbox live (it is listed as coming soon to XBLA for the past year or so). So, I have to sign up for two more useless web accounts?
I prefer keeping all my games on my Xbox, but I guess I could use a game for my work pc. |
Free is always nice.
|
why not!
|
Wow, these are pretty impressive giveaways. Thanks for reminding me every day.
|
I downloaded the Ninja Blade game and that was horrible. Not worth the effort. I'm assuming this game is just as bad. I got spoiled once with a free copy of Metro 2033 a few months ago. This is not the case with these greenman things.
|
I just signed up for a greenmangaming account and got Unstoppable Gorg. I did not need to get a playfire account for this download.

Excessive Work
Lot of work. Probably a mistake.
I took the last free game just to have the option of downloading it someday (probably on a teenager's computer), and wanted to do the same for this one. For the V8 one they wanted you to join Playfire, and then link them, which I did. This promotion is obviously aimed at getting new users for the Playfire service and Green Man store. They eventually timed out on Steam and let me Proceed with setting up the Playfire account, linking them, and then make the $0 purchase. The whole process took longer than expected for what appeared a simple buy for free offer, and would not have been started if I realized all of the steps involved. |
I played a few races, I regret signing up for all that crap! The game isnt very good or realistic. Handling is bad, graphics are poor, options are minimal. what else? It's free for a reason. They're offering you free junk in exchange for your infermation and account.
Better off downloading Flatout demo for free on Steam, much more fun. |
I actually kind of liked the Ninja Blade game for the 30 minutes I played it. It is annoying that the save mechanism only saves at the end of a mission though and not at various checkpoints. Not sure if I'll like the other games though.

Is this game anything like Race 07 ?

Bring up the game installer/manager client. It should show the game listed with a download button. Click to download the 1.5GB install file, and then click install to install it. then click play. Played it a bit tonight. I like it. The physics are definitley cheat just a bit towards track driving lines aimed towards high hp cars (which I guess makes perfect sense for this game lol) |

Played tons of racing games growing up, mostly simulation. This game is a "not-fun" arcade game. The physics aren't advanced enough to be fun or realistic. And it's not goofy and arcade-y enough to fool around and have fun. Also AI sucks a lot. And the progression system is.... very weak. |
