For those who rely on T-Mobile's Wi-Fi Calling feature, it will not work on this phone.

Wowsza 02-05-2013 12:04 AM

this was the same deal posted in december (albeit without the MIR), keep in mind folks that this version of the phone is NOT 4G LTE capable. the speed difference between HSDPA and 4G LTE is enormous, so if data speed matters to you look elsewhere.

the model number of this phone is n7100.

for verizon you'll want SCH-i605, and AT&T is SGH-i317. an unlocked t-mobile phone will NOT have 4G LTE on AT&T's network and the same is true vice versa, their radios operate on different bands.

stevenq 02-05-2013 12:05 AM

Pretty good price - best smart phone for Android there is. Even better than S3. Haven't heard of any problems with the Note 2. S3 has too many problems with phones resetting and bricking randomly.

Will this phone work with TMobile?

gyzo33 02-05-2013 12:07 AM

Might as well get an iPad mini; a little bigger for half the price.

it will work with t-mobile, but you will not have 4G LTE speeds.

edit: actually, from what i'm reading you won't even get 3G on t-mobile with this model number.

it's a lot bigger, at least the note 2 will still fit in your pocket... barely. the cellular models are also more expensive.

Great find. Thanks for taking time to share this deal which is useful to me.

Oh really? My note 2 sits in my pocket nice and fit. It is also barely noticeable because of its slim size.

buister 02-05-2013 01:58 AM

This is not a phone; this is a tablet with phone capability. :D It's freaking huge! How and where does a guy carry it (not in a pocket for sure)?

It depends on where you live, I think.
I'm using a Galaxy S2 international version on T-mobile. I only get edge speed at my house, but at my work place, I got "High" (which I suppose is 4g, cause the download speed was approximately 1MB/sec when I was downloading app through playstore.)
And funny when I came to my friend house, which is a rural area, I also get "High" speed.

T-mobile is allow to use ATT spectrum now. They've install the cell tower in quite many city. Not the whole US, but quite many city.

HemanC 02-05-2013 02:07 AM

It will fit inside the jean pocket, both front and back. If you put it in the back pocket, it will stick out a little but the width is fine. I like to put mine inside my jacket's packet. Fit perfectly. I always tell my friend, if it fit inside my pocket, then it's not big.

i understand what you are saying, but your S2 is getting fast 3G speeds because it has the UMTS 1700/2100 MHz radio. t-mobile 3G requires the 1700 AND 2100 MHz radio, and the note 2 in this link only has the 2100 MHz radio, meaning it is only 2G capable on T-Mobile's network.

My Note 2 fits fine in my front pocket, jeans or regular pants. After a while you don't even notice the large size, just the pure awesomeness.

Spoken like a true apple idiot.:shake:

You can carry it in just about any pocket. Yes it will be tight if you have other things in said pocket, but it will fit. I can imagine if you are wearing girly skinny jeans , you may have a hard time keeping it in your pocket.

Data and carrier's aside, I have yet to have any issues (performance or operational) at all.

I don't think this is true. I was in SF 2 weeks ago and my HTC Incredible 2 with T-Mobile sim card was able to work on 3G (Incredible 2 has 2100 radio and not 1700). But for some reason, even though there are 2100 towers here in Chicago, I can not pick the 3G signal.

Logansmom 02-05-2013 05:00 AM

T-Mobile has been moving HSPA+ (3G/4G depending on your opinion of what is 4G) services onto the 1900 Mhz frequency around the country for the last 6 months or so. They are currently live in 40 markets (see this article: http://www.tmonews.com/2013/01/t-...-coverage/ ) If you live in one of these markets than this phone will work in 3G/4G for you. They are rolling out coverage on the 1900 MHz band to all major markets across the US over the next year. You can check the map at airportal.de to see where coverage has been spotted near you, T-mobile considers a market live when they have upgraded 75% of the towers in that market.

Yep. Like Logasmom said, T-Mobile is moving to 1900/2100. I get 3G in my city.

http://airportal.de/ is pretty accurate.

Not really true if you are willing to root once T-Mobile or someone else disables the software lock on it. Both AT&T and T-Mobile versions have LTE hardware for bands 4 and 17. See below [anandtech.com].

I’ve confirmed that MDM9215 is present without having to disassemble or otherwise tamper with the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2.

One of the most interesting things about the Galaxy Note 2 on T-Mobile is that it literally is the same hardware as the AT&T Note 2 with LTE. Sure, the model number is different, but the T-Mobile Note 2 includes support for LTE bands 17 (which AT&T uses) and 4 (AWS, which AT&T has specced devices out for and T-Mobile has confirmed it will deploy LTE on).

You can't get T-Mobile's 1700/2100 HSPA+ signal unless you have both radios. You can, however, get their 1900 signal, which all of the phones discussed in this thread so far have (including the N7100). T-Mobile is working to support 1900MHz in all HSPA+ locations [hardforum.com]. I suspect you're really picking up the 1900 signal in SF.

demirhan13 02-05-2013 05:44 AM

Yes I was meaning to say 1900.

My buy finger is itching. I really want this device I think, but I don't want AT&T to "upgrade" my "unlimited" non-smartphone data plan to one of their smartphone plans that cost a whole lot more.

No way, gyzo. The Note 2 is a beautiful blend of power and size. I use a belt holster for mine, but it fit in my pocket just fine for a week before my case arrived. The best phone I have ever owned bar none. It's so great, I can't imagine upgrading to anything else when I'm eligible again. I plan on using this phone for the next 3-4 years unless Samsung develops the Note 3 or the S4 or S5 to do something completely unprecedented and amazing. Not a bad price. But I agree that the omission of 4G LTE in the N7100 is like Ron Burgundy: kind of a big deal.

With a screen like that, what's the battery life like? My S2 has a horrible battery life. I'm a heavy netflix user so I don't expect my battery to last all day, but my battery will typically drain just by browsing and calling.

Actually, I'm pleasantly surprised by the battery life. I use a live wallpaper (moving jellyfish, which soaks up more battery than a static image) and I max out the screen brightness and I still get a full day's battery life. There are some days I don't even charge it overnight and I'll still have 30-40% battery when I drive into work the next day. Easily lasts a whole business day when I'm traveling, making calls and texting, using Google Maps, and playing games. Brilliantly designed device. Samsung thought of everything with the Note 2.

great phone not to big for pocket if u dont ware skinny jeans which no man should

naireland 02-05-2013 07:29 AM

ha ha, all of these negative jabs at size from people who have never even used the phone. Bias in phones seems to be everywhere. Drop your brand myopia and actually the thing before you dismiss it. I have an iphone 5 for my work phone. It's boring and basic like every iphone ive had before. It works great out of the box and does everything it's supposed to do effortlessly but its bland and at this point only good for making calls and the occasional ios appstore only applications.

I upgraded to the Note 2 about a month ago and there is no going back. At first I thought I made a mistake in upgrading from my GS3 but after spending a day with it hands on I could never go back. The functionality is limitless and I found myself almost using it for most of my work related task. Jotted down notes while on phone with clients, had multiple windows open, and found myself emailing from my phone moreso than from my computer, amazing. More importantly the battery is phenomenal and nearly laps my iPhone. I can use it constantly without ever having to charge it throughout the day. Not being tethered to a car or wall charger is liberating as I only have 1 iPhone cable to go around.

I even renewed my netflix membership because movies look amazing on that screen. I'm on the verge of even selling my beloved iPad and Tab since the Note 2 is constantly in my pocket. Sure its big and if you are used to 1 handed texting then you might be better off with the S3 but within a few hours I had already adapted and could never go back to one handed phones. You can even re size the buttons if you so prefer 1 handed use but why bother. Can truly say that the overcame my bias against this phone and would be hard stricken to upgraded to anything else.

This deal is nothing phenomenal unless you really need a phone off contract and don't need the LTE. Demand is simply too high to get a good deal on this beast yet and I would recommend waiting until it goes down to $500 probably within about 2-3 months.

Chimay 02-05-2013 07:30 AM

Love the phone, upgraded from my SGSII (which I liked, but battery was garbage). I have AT&T version, the SGH-i317.

I was concerned about it being too big, but it's fine - No problem with it fitting in pockets. Battery is outstanding even on stock ROM (I ran stock rooted w/ no mods/tweaks for the first month). Well-written stock software + big battery = great battery life.

For someone like me that uses a phone for everything, this is an excellent device. Stylus is well implemented, having all that extra screen size is amazing. Games, movies, web, email, calendar - everything benefits from the 5.5" screen. Was kind of excited about the multi-window feature but I've used it a grand total of once. Even so, this is easily the best phone I've owned. Also, my poor Nexus 7 hasn't left my side table in a while :)

Every Note/Note2 thread is the same, with people rambling about the size. I thought it was absurd, too, until I handled one. Now, to me, it's the new normal; other phones are pathetically undersized. This is a phone for adults, iPhones look like kids' toys. Now if we could just get the app base that Apple has.

A Nokia N8 currently, before that an N900 and then an N82. Yup, I like Nokia phones so this would be a big change.

I'm really liking Android on my TouchPad through CM9, and I believe a Note 2 would be a good fit for me.

I just do not want to lose my non-smartphone data plan. I know it may be silly, I'm surrounded by wi-fi almost all the time but I still manage to do about 700MB a month, so their data plans do not fit my needs. I don't particularly care if I do not have LTE. It's probably not even offered in my area, but I don't care enough to bother checking.

Just the stupid question of whether AT&T will tag an unlocked Note 2 as a smart phone or not... I've seen some people say yes and others no. There's no definitive answer anywhere that I've seen.

I'd like to know the same. I've heard conflicting information, with some people saying that AT&T flags not only based on recognized smartphone MEID/ESN but also via the type of data traffic the phone generates.

sammyccc 02-05-2013 08:29 AM

Is it dual sim?

cHaNg-sTa 02-05-2013 08:38 AM

I like how people who never owned a Note 2 act like this device is so huge that it's illogical to think it would fit in a pocket. Yet the S3 is one of the top selling phones in the world, and it's like half an inch wider than the S3. If you're pocket can't handle less than half an inch width, then there's something wrong with your pockets.

My friend showed me his Note 2 and let me played with it a little. What an incredible device. Makes me a little jealous as it made my S3 look small in comparison haha.

The battery is great on the Note 2 because of the smaller die processor and the huge mAh battery. I can't think of a current smartphone model that can out last it.

BEWARE OF BUYING THIS PHONE FROM NEWEGG:

I bought this phone about a month ago, and despite using it like a piece of jewelry, the screen developed a crack. No pressure, no drops, etc. just one fine morning it cracked from one corner to another.

I contacted Samsung and they could not find the serial number in their system and suspected that it was an imported phone. They asked me to contact Newegg directly since they could not do anything about it.

I contacted Newegg and their so-called "90 day warranty" is handled by a third party company called "pdagiant". Their recommendation was to fill out a form with pdagiant and ship it directly to them for a replacement. I did some digging around and this pdagiant has a "F" rating on BBB. Some people have complained that they shipped their phones to this company and never got it back.

So I am stuck with a $600+ phone which cracked by itself and basically no one who can help me. I am thinking of giving the local repair shops a shot.

I do not know if AT&T can legally sniff your data and make changes to your plan based on that. On the IMEI sure, but your use should not be used in that manner.

It's not such a bad thing if it takes a while for us to get an answer, it means the price for the device may drop or a Note 3 may be released!!:lol:

I would probably look into a charge back as well. It's not worth going through all the trouble of getting it returned, especially since some people have not received their devices.

Noob question - but how do I initiate a chargeback if Newegg refuses to take back the product?

Please, don't put "best android" and "Samsung" in one sentence.

Why not? They've established themselves as the marque mfgr. Now there is talk of Apple trying to compete by putting out an IPhablet :lmao:

Every Note/Note2 thread is the same, with people rambling about the size. I thought it was absurd, too, until I handled one. Now, to me, it's the new normal; other phones are pathetically undersized. This is a phone for adults, iPhones look like kids' toys. Now if we could just get the app base that Apple has.

Yup!

Yes, you can.

How.... does it have a cellular radio? And WHY?? A 5.5" phone is much closer to a standard smart phone than an 8" tablet.

call you r credit card company and tell them that you received a defective product that newegg is refusing to correct.

re-affirm that you have a non-working phone for which you paid via their cc

make sure to get a case #. for some credit card companies, you may have to send in a letter

I'd like to know the same. I've heard conflicting information, with some people saying that AT&T flags not only based on recognized smartphone MEID/ESN but also via the type of data traffic the phone generates.

I was running my N7100 on ATT's GoPhone $50 plan since October. This month they finally figured out it wasn't a dumb phone and blocked data. They are now blocking the Nexus4 too. I suspect they are blocking them by imei and not sniffing because my Note1 N7000 was blocked from day one but hacking the imei got it working and the N7000 is working on the same sim that has the data blocked on the N7100.

I hear that on the postpaid dumb phone plans, the N7100 has had data recently blocked too.

And all N7100, N7102 and N7105 are considered imports and are not covered by any Samsung warrantees in the States. Import phones have always been that way, it's not a Newegg thing.

So this phone will or will not do LTE on AT&T? Wouldn't it do LTE on tmobile for markets that support the LTE 4 band? Or LTE is not available on this model at all?

I can confirm that the Note 2 rocks. I almost feel bad for my friends when I see that combined look of awe and disappointment on their face as they hold their iPhone 5 next to it.

If this international version had LTE for Tmo 'hidden' on it, to be unlocked via a radio flash I'd be on it in a heartbeat, but I plan on holding on to this beast for a while and don't want to be left out of high speed once Tmo LTE goes live. Keep hoping that I can find a new, warrantied Tmo Note 2, but no luck so far.

If you read reviews they are agree that battery life is outstanding for a smart device. Samsung used the second to biggest battery there is (they had plenty of space for it). If I owned a Note 2 I would expect outstanding battery life, better than S3 for sure.

I own an S2 and I know exactly what you're going through. If any smart phone could play your Netflix, this Note 2 would be it (and maybe iPhone 5).

I have had iPhones up to 4S, switched to GS2, loved it. Then switched to Note II, it's in a different level.

First off, it's not huge, it fits in my pockets find except for one pair of jeans where the pocket is too small for the whole phone to go in (all my pants are tight fitting but not extreme). Unless you are wearing jeans that crushes your balls (if you do, phone is least of your issues), you should be fine.

Second, the battery life is great. 3100maH is a lot of juice, I can use it 12 hours a day (LTE, wifi left on, auto brightness, BT off) and still have 15-20% left when I get home.

To give you an idea how great the screen size is, when I use multiwindow, it's like having 2 iphones side by side, that's how small the iphones are.

Oh, and not having to deal with iOS anymore. I always jailbreak my iphones and ipads but I got no need anymore. I can do everything I want out of the box with Android. And here's something about your user experience...last night it took me 2 hours to update my iPad2 to 6.1 using iTunes. The update was 88mb only. Few days ago, my carrier pushed the new jelly bean 4.1.2 to my phone and it was 245mb, it took only 20 min to download and install and I didn't even need to connect to anything.

And to those haters going on about the size. Have you even held and use one? If not, try and see for yourself instead of just being a sheep. I have had a lot of experience using both iphones and androids, and I have made my educated choice.

Gah! It's dead! Here I was hoping I'd have a few days to think it over (it *is* a monster price to pay for a phone), and now it's gone already. Bah!

Well, apparently it's died and come back to life once already; let's hope it comes back again.
