This post can and should be edited by users like you :)
For those who rely on T-Mobile's Wi-Fi Calling feature, it will not work on this phone.
|
this was the same deal posted in december (albeit without the MIR), keep in mind folks that this version of the phone is NOT 4G LTE capable. the speed difference between HSDPA and 4G LTE is enormous, so if data speed matters to you look elsewhere.
the model number of this phone is n7100. for verizon you'll want SCH-i605, and AT&T is SGH-i317. an unlocked t-mobile phone will NOT have 4G LTE on AT&T's network and the same is true vice versa, their radios operate on different bands. |
Pretty good price - best smart phone for Android there is. Even better than S3. Haven't heard of any problems with the Note 2. S3 has too many problems with phones resetting and bricking randomly.
Will this phone work with TMobile? |
Might as well get an iPad mini; a little bigger for half the price.

edit: actually, from what i'm reading you won't even get 3G on t-mobile with this model number. |

Great find. Thanks for taking time to share this deal which is useful to me.

This is not a phone; this is a tablet with phone capability. :D It's freaking huge! How and where does a guy carry it (not in a pocket for sure)?

I'm using a Galaxy S2 international version on T-mobile. I only get edge speed at my house, but at my work place, I got "High" (which I suppose is 4g, cause the download speed was approximately 1MB/sec when I was downloading app through playstore.) And funny when I came to my friend house, which is a rural area, I also get "High" speed. T-mobile is allow to use ATT spectrum now. They've install the cell tower in quite many city. Not the whole US, but quite many city. |
It will fit inside the jean pocket, both front and back. If you put it in the back pocket, it will stick out a little but the width is fine. I like to put mine inside my jacket's packet. Fit perfectly. I always tell my friend, if it fit inside my pocket, then it's not big.

My Note 2 fits fine in my front pocket, jeans or regular pants. After a while you don't even notice the large size, just the pure awesomeness.

You can carry it in just about any pocket. Yes it will be tight if you have other things in said pocket, but it will fit. I can imagine if you are wearing girly skinny jeans , you may have a hard time keeping it in your pocket. Data and carrier's aside, I have yet to have any issues (performance or operational) at all. |

T-Mobile has been moving HSPA+ (3G/4G depending on your opinion of what is 4G) services onto the 1900 Mhz frequency around the country for the last 6 months or so. They are currently live in 40 markets (see this article: http://www.tmonews.com/2013/01/t-...-coverage/ ) If you live in one of these markets than this phone will work in 3G/4G for you. They are rolling out coverage on the 1900 MHz band to all major markets across the US over the next year. You can check the map at airportal.de to see where coverage has been spotted near you, T-mobile considers a market live when they have upgraded 75% of the towers in that market.

Yep. Like Logasmom said, T-Mobile is moving to 1900/2100. I get 3G in my city.
http://airportal.de/ is pretty accurate. |

My buy finger is itching. I really want this device I think, but I don't want AT&T to "upgrade" my "unlimited" non-smartphone data plan to one of their smartphone plans that cost a whole lot more.
I just don't know!! |

I'm thinking of upgrading my dad's plan on AT&T. Trying to get retentions to give one to me for $99 with no fees. |

ha ha, all of these negative jabs at size from people who have never even used the phone. Bias in phones seems to be everywhere. Drop your brand myopia and actually the thing before you dismiss it. I have an iphone 5 for my work phone. It's boring and basic like every iphone ive had before. It works great out of the box and does everything it's supposed to do effortlessly but its bland and at this point only good for making calls and the occasional ios appstore only applications.
I upgraded to the Note 2 about a month ago and there is no going back. At first I thought I made a mistake in upgrading from my GS3 but after spending a day with it hands on I could never go back. The functionality is limitless and I found myself almost using it for most of my work related task. Jotted down notes while on phone with clients, had multiple windows open, and found myself emailing from my phone moreso than from my computer, amazing. More importantly the battery is phenomenal and nearly laps my iPhone. I can use it constantly without ever having to charge it throughout the day. Not being tethered to a car or wall charger is liberating as I only have 1 iPhone cable to go around. I even renewed my netflix membership because movies look amazing on that screen. I'm on the verge of even selling my beloved iPad and Tab since the Note 2 is constantly in my pocket. Sure its big and if you are used to 1 handed texting then you might be better off with the S3 but within a few hours I had already adapted and could never go back to one handed phones. You can even re size the buttons if you so prefer 1 handed use but why bother. Can truly say that the overcame my bias against this phone and would be hard stricken to upgraded to anything else. This deal is nothing phenomenal unless you really need a phone off contract and don't need the LTE. Demand is simply too high to get a good deal on this beast yet and I would recommend waiting until it goes down to $500 probably within about 2-3 months. |
Love the phone, upgraded from my SGSII (which I liked, but battery was garbage). I have AT&T version, the SGH-i317.
I was concerned about it being too big, but it's fine - No problem with it fitting in pockets. Battery is outstanding even on stock ROM (I ran stock rooted w/ no mods/tweaks for the first month). Well-written stock software + big battery = great battery life. For someone like me that uses a phone for everything, this is an excellent device. Stylus is well implemented, having all that extra screen size is amazing. Games, movies, web, email, calendar - everything benefits from the 5.5" screen. Was kind of excited about the multi-window feature but I've used it a grand total of once. Even so, this is easily the best phone I've owned. Also, my poor Nexus 7 hasn't left my side table in a while :) |

Every Note/Note2 thread is the same, with people rambling about the size. I thought it was absurd, too, until I handled one. Now, to me, it's the new normal; other phones are pathetically undersized. This is a phone for adults, iPhones look like kids' toys. Now if we could just get the app base that Apple has.

I'm really liking Android on my TouchPad through CM9, and I believe a Note 2 would be a good fit for me. I just do not want to lose my non-smartphone data plan. I know it may be silly, I'm surrounded by wi-fi almost all the time but I still manage to do about 700MB a month, so their data plans do not fit my needs. I don't particularly care if I do not have LTE. It's probably not even offered in my area, but I don't care enough to bother checking. Just the stupid question of whether AT&T will tag an unlocked Note 2 as a smart phone or not... I've seen some people say yes and others no. There's no definitive answer anywhere that I've seen. |

Is it dual sim?
|
I like how people who never owned a Note 2 act like this device is so huge that it's illogical to think it would fit in a pocket. Yet the S3 is one of the top selling phones in the world, and it's like half an inch wider than the S3. If you're pocket can't handle less than half an inch width, then there's something wrong with your pockets.
My friend showed me his Note 2 and let me played with it a little. What an incredible device. Makes me a little jealous as it made my S3 look small in comparison haha. |

So if I want this phone I have to give up wearing skinny jeans? Well I guess its a good thing I went with the Nexus 4.
|
The battery is great on the Note 2 because of the smaller die processor and the huge mAh battery. I can't think of a current smartphone model that can out last it.

BEWARE OF BUYING THIS PHONE FROM NEWEGG:
I bought this phone about a month ago, and despite using it like a piece of jewelry, the screen developed a crack. No pressure, no drops, etc. just one fine morning it cracked from one corner to another. I contacted Samsung and they could not find the serial number in their system and suspected that it was an imported phone. They asked me to contact Newegg directly since they could not do anything about it. I contacted Newegg and their so-called "90 day warranty" is handled by a third party company called "pdagiant". Their recommendation was to fill out a form with pdagiant and ship it directly to them for a replacement. I did some digging around and this pdagiant has a "F" rating on BBB. Some people have complained that they shipped their phones to this company and never got it back. So I am stuck with a $600+ phone which cracked by itself and basically no one who can help me. I am thinking of giving the local repair shops a shot. |

It's not such a bad thing if it takes a while for us to get an answer, it means the price for the device may drop or a Note 3 may be released!!:lol: |

I was running my N7100 on ATT's GoPhone $50 plan since October. This month they finally figured out it wasn't a dumb phone and blocked data. They are now blocking the Nexus4 too. I suspect they are blocking them by imei and not sniffing because my Note1 N7000 was blocked from day one but hacking the imei got it working and the N7000 is working on the same sim that has the data blocked on the N7100. I hear that on the postpaid dumb phone plans, the N7100 has had data recently blocked too. And all N7100, N7102 and N7105 are considered imports and are not covered by any Samsung warrantees in the States. Import phones have always been that way, it's not a Newegg thing. |
So this phone will or will not do LTE on AT&T? Wouldn't it do LTE on tmobile for markets that support the LTE 4 band? Or LTE is not available on this model at all?

I can confirm that the Note 2 rocks. I almost feel bad for my friends when I see that combined look of awe and disappointment on their face as they hold their iPhone 5 next to it.
|
If this international version had LTE for Tmo 'hidden' on it, to be unlocked via a radio flash I'd be on it in a heartbeat, but I plan on holding on to this beast for a while and don't want to be left out of high speed once Tmo LTE goes live. Keep hoping that I can find a new, warrantied Tmo Note 2, but no luck so far.

I own an S2 and I know exactly what you're going through. If any smart phone could play your Netflix, this Note 2 would be it (and maybe iPhone 5). |
I have had iPhones up to 4S, switched to GS2, loved it. Then switched to Note II, it's in a different level.
First off, it's not huge, it fits in my pockets find except for one pair of jeans where the pocket is too small for the whole phone to go in (all my pants are tight fitting but not extreme). Unless you are wearing jeans that crushes your balls (if you do, phone is least of your issues), you should be fine. Second, the battery life is great. 3100maH is a lot of juice, I can use it 12 hours a day (LTE, wifi left on, auto brightness, BT off) and still have 15-20% left when I get home. To give you an idea how great the screen size is, when I use multiwindow, it's like having 2 iphones side by side, that's how small the iphones are. Oh, and not having to deal with iOS anymore. I always jailbreak my iphones and ipads but I got no need anymore. I can do everything I want out of the box with Android. And here's something about your user experience...last night it took me 2 hours to update my iPad2 to 6.1 using iTunes. The update was 88mb only. Few days ago, my carrier pushed the new jelly bean 4.1.2 to my phone and it was 245mb, it took only 20 min to download and install and I didn't even need to connect to anything. And to those haters going on about the size. Have you even held and use one? If not, try and see for yourself instead of just being a sheep. I have had a lot of experience using both iphones and androids, and I have made my educated choice. |
Gah! It's dead! Here I was hoping I'd have a few days to think it over (it *is* a monster price to pay for a phone), and now it's gone already. Bah!
Well, apparently it's died and come back to life once already; let's hope it comes back again. |
