Lots of XPS 8500's available (at high prices). Cheapest I found was an 559, low processor. The new deals that have been offered lately with monitor make me want to wait for another new deal instead.

Just bought a latitude E6330 (i5-3360, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB SATA hd) for just under $500 after tax

planning on swapping out the hard drive and RAM, anyone know if it is easy to swap out the hard drives on these guys?

Have an e6430 (and a former D630) - and it is similar - two screws on the botttom and it'll slide right out.

Should be about six screws on the bottom, and the entire bottom will come off giving easy access to all components.

great laptop and great price. use one everyday. Sorry can't answer your question though since mine is from work and can't tinker with it. but I had a E6400 and it was easy enough to add a 2nd RAM. just unscrew and pop it in.

Well, I thought this is today's breaking new, Dell is out of Business.
Anyway Dell is going private and pretty soon out of business, so we would start seeing lots of deals on Dell on daily basis. They made lot of money by selling trash anyway.

Dell isn't exactly trash. I know there lower line stuff probably isn't that great, but I've always liked my Latitude notebooks... I've got a E6410 and don't have any complaints.

I was taking my trash out yesterday to be collected... and a dell truck drove up and took it !

Dell's are still some of the best built PC's on the market. They all use basically the same stuff anyway.

Build quality on latitudes has declined a lot over the years. My D630 is solid but my new E6430 feels like a piece of plastic junk. The bottom cover doesn't even fit squarely with the body of the laptop and the keyboard is mushy.

My new dell shmells, I think someone farted on it.

What about a Latitude 6530 with i5-3360m, 8GB, 7200 RPM HD, 5200 GPU and 1600x900 for $650-ish - decent deal? That's about the most attractive thing I can find. I swore off Dells after my second consumer unit failed, but I've never owned a Latitude and my patience with the Lenovo Outlet is starting to wear thin.

I guess you need to learn to read and write both.

My E6230 has Samsung 830 SSD, so I guess the larger E6330 should be upgradable.

Ok, the best I can do for you is say that you assumed that going private means going out business, which is not true. The rest of the options are just bad for you...please go read some more before you post stuff like that

during the last sale some people had luck with the XPS 8500 i7s coming around for around $425 after coupon, but you gotta get lucky.

i use my ps3 for gaming..so i dont need a high end card. anyway i ended up selling the desktop and making a nice profit

But at the same time, it's possible it may lower the overall cost because of less overhead.... So it can go either way, hard to tell

I love my Dells too. HP's don't look too bad but they tend to overheat. Gateway is garbage.

Samsungs are nice, but you can't build to order. Asus is nice too but build quality is iffy.

i'm thinking about an alienware as a media center pc. first time shopping for one, can someone ballpark me on an alienware unit?

It can sway in customer's favor given that they don't have to show numbers to stock holders ! But I really don't get their move, really don't ! Hey Loany ! Well, if you really want your machine to be media centric(attached to TV via HDMI?), I wonder how often you'd be picking it up. I don't. I am posting this post with a MK320 looking on my TV. Hardly touch my laptop. If that's the case for you too, then build quality won't really matter. If you can put money on better proc and GPU, instead of plastic vs metal blah blah, I think you'd be good. Alienware is just too expensive.

i'm with you. i have a cheap inspiron ?620? attached to my tv right now. works beautiful but it's time for an upgrade. as i'm looking at my setup i can picture an alienware laptop w/ those mood changing lights sitting next to it. it's not portability but looks. don't think i'd lug around an alienware, that's not what they're made for. i was thinking more graphics centric.

what is the ball park on alienware? and can i buy internal tuner cards for it cheap?

I'll still not advise Alienware. But obviously, you are from "Hot or Not" concept fan base, I'll leave it up to you. Alienwares run expensive. But you can get a deal from outlet when they run coupons and gift card promotions like buy $400 GC and get $75. Let me caution you against upgrading your graphics in LAPTOP (Desktop is easy peasy). It may void your warranty and want your super skills with hardware. It may require you to open up your entire laptop and then the question of where to find your new GPU that fits well in the laptop.

If I were you, I'd keep looking at lenovo and dell outlet (lenovo more so now). Keep an eye on i7s with 1/2 GB graphics. Get rid of that cheap D620

Edit: Just to add, I once saw a lenovo Y580 in outlet for 499 :(. I am kicking myself since for not getting it (didn't need it, or did i?)

looking at the outlet, they look to be about $820 after taxes - 150 gc = $670. i'll keep any eye out for the next $75 gc deal, they come around the holidays if i remember.

i know z-series vaios are $650-$700 and my ex picked one up free after MS windows phone challenge giftcards. I'm hoping dell lives up to it's name as being cheaper, i really like those alienwares.

Been using a Precision T3400 for the past few years and decided to upgrade. Went with an Alienware Aurora R4 for $1304.25 after coupon.

Specs include an i7 3820, 16GB ram, 1TB hard drive, 2GB GTX 680, 24x DVD burner, blu-ray drive, card reader, and TactX mouse & keyboard. I'm in the InfoSec field and the power of the GTX 680 is insane when it comes to forensic data carving and auditing password strength - it has 1536 Cuda cores!! Not a fan of the hard drive but I have 4 SAS drives going in instead. The CPU is fine for now but will probably upgrade to a 6-core 3920k in a year or so when they get cheaper. Overall I'm happy with the purchase.

So thinking of grabbing either 8500 and upgrading the video card to 660gtx or one of the Aurora r4s. Anyone have any thoughts on that ? can get roughly equiv proc/mem for 8500 around 650ish, and the Auroras run about 1000. Thats after the discount codes. The aurora seem to come with 560ti which is good but would prob want 660 so thinking 8500 is prob better bet. Any thoughts appreciated

I know... that was the only 'meh' for me... But, RAM is cheap... you will be able to grab 8 or 12 GB name brand pretty cheap...

You can pick up a Vostro 3560 with an i7 quad, 1080p screen, and Radeon 7670M 1GB GPU for $721. It is a fair price and Vostros are reliable machines.

I've been checking daily and had my eye on it. Also been looking for the new outlet coupons a few times a day so when they hit I was in there very soon after. The 1st system in my cart had an i7 3960x with a GTX 660 for $400 more, but I felt it was a better deal to stock up on the GPU now for less $.
