It's a mechanical drive. SATA I is faster than most mechanical drive and SATA II is faster than any mechanical drive.

SATA II interface for this drive is fine. It would not benefit from a SATA III interface as it could never come cloes to saturating SATA II.

 What would you gain from a SATA III 1TB 7200RPM drive?

Can't say for sure but this might be another misprint on hard drive specs. If you google the exact model number of the item [ 0S03563 ] you will find the same drive with a sata III 6gb/s connection.

Microcenter [microcenter.com] 16mb cache no mention of sata speed
J&R [jr.com] 32mb cache sata III
Newegg [newegg.com] 16mb cache sata II
Amazon (not sold by) [amazon.com] 32mb cache no mention of sata speed

It's been this price for a couple of days at B&H. I've never seen it on sale though so this might be as low as it gets especially since it's the only 1TB 2.5 7200rpm in the market. Still a great price for what it is other hdd's in this storage size and 3 year warranty hover around 80 or higher with slower rpms (WD Blue).

If you remember to mention it could you verify the specs after you receive it?

Nice deal, tempting!

The only link you provided that I see states SATA III is the jr.com link (Amazon link is also sold by JR). I just checked the retail box and there is no indication. It simply states SATA. But again, not sure what difference it would make being that it's not an SSD. If you're concerned whether or not it's 7200RPM, I can confirm that it is based on a previous order with BH.

potential difference transfer from cache, but even then probably not.

Wonder how this compares performance wise with a scorpio black.

I think 500GB is the largest 7mm hd you can buy

centurion99 02-05-2013 11:01 PM

Does a sata II drive have a different connector than a sata I drive or can it be easily installed on older systems?

schianvex 02-05-2013 11:18 PM

website says SATA II 16mb cache, 3Gb/s.

I have a 750GB Hitachi that is 7mm, I believe they make a 1TB 7mm as well.

EDIT: Apologies, it is 9.3MM, not 7MM, you are right.

Just thought I should chime in to say that I picked up this drive from B&H yesterday and the package says 32MB Cache.

The back of the box says SATA Hard Drive (doesn't specify I, II, or III).
