Genuine Apple iPhone 5 USB Cable $16.99 at Amazon.com

1 Attachment(s)
Yes, I know you can get a generic cable for $3. However, if you are looking for a genuine Apple iPhone 5 USB Cable, it is currently $16.99 shipped via Amazon.com These rarely go on sale, so $16.99 is a whopping $2 discount compared to the normal price of $19.00

Sucks Amazon.com charges tax now. Just wanted to post this deal for all those who want a genuine cable.

Thanks! I had ordered a amazon basics lightning cable for 14.99..... Canceled that and got this instead.

DroidBricker 02-06-2013 07:19 AM

I had a $3 adapter and it only lasted a month. TU, thanks!

eibgrad 02-06-2013 07:26 AM

Thanks, but there are so many fakes wrt Apple accessories (even if it says "by Apple"), I just as soon pay the $20 on the Apple website for the peace of mind. Otherwise I'll *knowingly* buy a knock-off for $3. There's even 5% cashback w/ ShopDiscover when you shop Apple.com. :)

ddtmm 02-06-2013 07:43 AM

Just an FYI. I bought two of these exact cables (non Apple) from this seller on ebay and they worked with no problems and both sides of the charger work. only $3.89 for each cable

Ebay Seller: victorealness
Product Link: http://www.ebay.com/ [ebay.com]

Yes. They sync and charge both in both directions. I was a bit skeptical at first too but they guy gives you a 60 bay money back guarantee.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I'm in for one of these for $3.89. How long did it take to receive it?

intence01 02-06-2013 08:00 AM

In for one, can always use a spare cable.

ddtmm 02-06-2013 08:01 AM

I placed the order on the 20th of Jan. got the cables delivered on the 25th.

That's true if it is another seller "fulfilled" by Amazon. But if it is being sold by Amazon.com or LLC, and list Apple as manufacturer, you are getting the real deal.

For those interested, the Amazon Basics lightning cable works flawlessly both when charging and syncing and is a few bucks cheaper. I was really surprised by the quality of Amazon's lightning cable.

I assume you mean the following:

http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasic...009SYZ8OC/

One possible problem I see is the rather FAT plug. That might be a problem w/ some cases. Most have very tight tolerances.

quick2k2ecotec 02-06-2013 08:17 AM

Is this standard length or longer? I'd like a longer cable than what came with the 5.

mr7rizt4n 02-06-2013 08:22 AM

i wish i knew this would take off... i just bought one last night for this price... didn't realize this wasn't public knowledge.

ckayser 02-06-2013 08:24 AM

So I just added this to my cart and I also added the Powergen 2.1Amp/10W Dual USB Car Charger [amazon.com]. When I got to the checkout page, there was a promotional credit of $16.99 applied, making my total $9.99. So I got the cable for free!!!

I thought it was a mistake, so I went back to the page with the cable and I used the "Add Both To Cart" feature. When I went through to the checkout, there was a promotional credit in the amount of $12.97 applied, making the total $14.01.

I'm not sure if this is some sort of mistake, but I did receive the order confirmation from Amazon. Give it a try. The cable showed up as free though by adding each item to my cart separately.

Yes that is the one. People with certain cases will definitely have an issue with this cable but it didn't affect me as my bumper gives me enough space.

ckayser 02-06-2013 08:27 AM

This is weird. I added both items to my cart separately again and it gives me credit of $12.97 leaving a total of $14.01. If you delete the USB Car Charger from your cart, the promotion remains and the total cost of the cable is $4.02!!!

I think you just have some promotional credit from amazon that may work with any product. Try adding something random to your cart and see if it applies the promotional discount for that.

How long have you had them? I bought some cheap cables from a different seller, they charge both ways but the wire jacket broke near the USB plug and you can now see the wires, they still work but it looks bad.

Took a few weeks to start falling apart.

Are you sure the credit is a promo and not a gift card balance?

Emjay 02-06-2013 08:33 AM

Apple is making millions by having to go with this proprietary device cable. It's not a superior product compared to the 30 pin Iphone 4 cable, I personally like one that is easier on the hands...as this thing is tiny.
I'd go w/ generic...for 70% off.
Apple is in it for the money. Both data transfer is at the same speeds.

ckayser 02-06-2013 08:34 AM

No it's not a gift card balance. On the right hand side of the screen where it has the order total, it had $16.99 listed where it says promotional credit.

Even the best retailers have been fooled into accepting fakes from their wholesalers. The *only* foolproof means to be sure you're getting the real thing is to go directly to the source. But yes, at least compared to other options @ Amazon (e.g., eForCity), it's less risky.

I've never posted a pic, but let's see if this works. Here's a screen grab from the order I placed that gives me the $12.97 promotion. I didn't take a screen shot of my actual order.

Hmm, maybe it's related to using Prime, I don't have Prime. Perhaps someone else who does can confirm it.

Nope. That's a credit you have on your account. I just did the same thing, and I have a promotional credit of $16.99 from a previous return.

ckayser 02-06-2013 08:58 AM

I've not made any returns and have no credits of any kind from Amazon that I'm aware of. And if I use the "Add both to cart" feature, I get a promotion applied in the amount of $12.97. I just ordered a second set for myself. The total on the first one was $9.99 and the total on the second order was $14.01. Weird.

Well, now that I think about it, it's not weird. On the first order, you received a $16.99 credit as that is the price of the cord and your credit balance exceeds $16.99. You can't apply your credit to the powergen product because it's sold by a third party. On the second order, the remainder of your Amazon credit is being applied to the cord.

nerfjames 02-06-2013 09:04 AM

For anyone who doesn't trust the authenticity of this cable (and don't mind a trip to Best Buy), $16.99 is the every day price for Best Buy Reward Zone customers if you order through RewardZoneMobile.com (in store pickup only) And if Amazon charges you sales tax, then its pretty much the same deal.

https://rewardzonemobile.com/deta...dCartItem=

You can get discounts on other flavors of Apple cables and adapters at RewardZoneMobile.com as well.

Exactly. That cables plug is too thick. Definitely doesn't fit through my iphone's case.

Even Apple is now selling fake Apple products now. You can't trust anybody. But I know this guy named Yu who works in an Apple factory in China. He and I visit each other from time to time. The next time I go to Shenzhen, I can have him swipe a few off the line for you if you want. He says that all the real Apple products are being sold in fake Apple stores in Africa. Apple just buys up all the knockoffs for their stores. Go figure.

ckayser 02-06-2013 09:13 AM

Ahhhh, nevermind guys I figured it out. I had a promotion from several month back when I bought a TV and got the 2% cash back after 35 days. It's been several months and I completely forgot about that 2% promotion. Disregard my previous excitement/posts and accept my apologies.

i believe you, open up the pictures and some people report that fake ones were sent. This seller can't sell fake cables, so he must of put it under it being an Apple product. Lot of people are wasting money on these right now i think.

It is amazon promotional credit you to when you bought one of those DSLR cameras or big TVs etc.

I have $61 on promotional credit and whenever I try to by something it applies that credit, I bet you also use Amazon.com chase credit card or chase freedom card points linked to amazon account.

Amazon does a poor job of separating products by seller. The bad reviews you are seeing are all the fakes sold by anyone other than Amazon themselves. They just lump all the reviews under the same "cable" real or fake.
