I bought one of these for my teenager's iphone last October. He complained about how hard it was to text certain words so I told him to stop using Qs and Ps in texts.

Other than that, it's a nice case.

Just an FYI. I work for Amazon in their fulfillment center here in Richmond, and I know we pulled a bunch of otterboxs off the shelves today to check to make sure they were authentic. A lot of fakes have been coming in and we are trying to prevent them from being shipped out.

not sold by Amazon...

nevergoodenough 02-06-2013 06:03 PM

fakes

We purchased one of the Otter boxes on Amazon, returned it. Either it was fake or had been a quality reject. Didn't fit right, holes not in the right places, just poor quality.

No issues with the return.

New seller with a really good price on an otterbox...ya, sounds legit.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OtterBox Defender Series Case for iPhone 5 - Retail Packaging - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I purchased this product about one week ago and the skipping was fine, but I received a fake otterbox defender. I know it is fake because I also own a real one which I bought from AT&T. The one purchased at AT&T has a TPU silicon but the one purchased on amazon does not. Also the real one is made in Mexico and the fake one in China. Throughout the whole case there are distinct marks that make me positive that it is fake. Also the holster is made of a super cheap plastic. I recommend that you buy at your own risk and if you don't care if it is real or fake then buy it on amazon, due to the cheaper price. However, if you want to be positive that it is real then just go to AT&T or Verizon, or just buy it off otterbox.com. I am extremely disappointed with the quality of the product.

Apparently they mix inventories from sellers, so if one seller is selling a fake you're probably going to get a fake.

Commingled Inventory
Commingling your inventory allows Amazon to treat your inventory as being combined with the inventory that Amazon or other sellers have of the same kind and condition. When someone purchases an item from your inventory we won't physically distinguish your inventory from that of other sellers. This enables us to process customer orders more efficiently.

For example, if seller Joe Smith sells brand new iPods with UPC 8590905343 and seller Jane Doe sells new iPods with the same UPC, then when a customer places an order from Joe Smith for this iPod, we will fulfill the order with an iPod that is closest to the person processing the order in our fulfillment center. However, we decrement inventory availability for sale from Joe Smith, so he always has up-to-date knowledge of his stock.

This is not true. When a seller sends in their inventory for us to store for them, they are required to attach their own assigned UPC to the product. We can track what product it is and what seller it belongs to via that special UPC/asin. Also when you purchase from a specific seller, you are prompted to leave them feedback, it would be unfair to leave negative feedback for a seller who didn't sell you that particular item.

since when is a UPC seller specific? I just quoted the Amazon.com site, so I'm not entirely sure how they handle these things.

When Jim wants to sell his cases on Amazon and have the orders fulfilled by Amazon, he is given a specific UPC code to attach to his products. This code helps keep track of his inventory in our warehouses. If he didn't have this code, how would we know when to pay him when his item sells?

Now, if the product is SHIPPED & SOLD by amazon, then yes, the inventory will get mixed up if we purchase from different vendors.
