Oh, thought it was 2 for $130 or I'd be all over this. Just bought a 8910W for $65 on Amazon Warehouse like-new, came new in box with all accessories and works fine.

navyseal92653 02-08-2013 09:07 AM

Bought from amazon for $69. Best camera.Best camera. Setting is not easy. If you want to monitor remotely dnydns is
not free anymore. Use no_ip.org.

does foscam have any outdoor IP cams that are 720p and h.264?

thisisjj 02-08-2013 01:52 PM

I am trying to set access to Foscam from my andriod / iPhone.

Do you guys know cost of & how to?
I found that we need static IP which usually costs around $20/year.
Any better ideas? Thanks in advance

You can get a dynamic DNS host for free. Try dyn.com. Your router can be configured to keep dyn.com updated, then you have a permanent address that never changes. If your router can't be configured for this, there are windows programs that run constantly and they do the updating of dyn.com.

They do have outdoor cameras, they run about 80-120 per camera.

You can use No-IP.org or DynDNS if you don't have a static IP address.

Set the email function up with a gmail account first, and port forwarding. Once you reset the cam, it'll send the ip address(if you set it to do so), and you can just use browser to access by click the link. It works fine with my android tab. the no-ip ddns is free and doesn't need your credit card info, while dydns, when I tried, asked for a credit card, which I could just use a cash card but didn't bother doing that.

Now, does this have secure access? It becomes a concern for me now if it's just open with no security at all.

I'm not really sure why there are TDs. You can't get this camera for this price anywhere else right now.

Still, that said, with all the bad stuff said about it before the firmware update I'm going to hold off on buying it until there is a new set of reviews.

TouchMint 02-08-2013 02:14 PM

seems like a pretty good deal I got the indoor ones and plan on putting them outside under an porch. no rain should be able to get to them so hopefully they survive.

This is just my opinion, but I think it's because it's still twice the price of the proven FI8910W, and there does'nt seem to be much if any improvement in performance, and image quality.

Most are taking the wait and see approach to this cam, considering how foscam failed to deal with the previous model of this cam, FI9820W. Most with experience will tell you to go with the older one for half the cost.

Based on this Youtube video I saw a long time ago it looks considerably better. Frankly it's the only reason I considered spending more $ on it. Granted this is the older model but I'd expect the image quality to be the same right?

My opinion is that the two cams are very similar in image, and performance. Each having advantages and disadvantages. If they were the same cost, I'd go for the new one, but they are not.

FI9821W, Higher Resolution, H.264 Compression, SD Memory recording

FI8910W, Cost, Firmware Stable, Wider Viewing Angle, Better Low-Light w/o IR.

I'm really just looking for a baby monitor that I can check on my iPhone or computer so the 10w looks like it'd be a good fit. The other 10w videos I found on YouTube seem to show much better image quality as well. And for $70 or so less (when they're on sale) I'll bite :D
