that reviewer seems to have an inability to criticize. That is, I didn't see any cons in the few reviews on there that I read.

Edit I guess there are a few knocks in there against battery life on some devices.

can anyone help me understand what is so special about this other than being a BT headset that generally goes FAR or $5ish (not Logitech or Jabra, but LG, Samsung)?

I have no clue what you meant by that last part but this BT headset has a BT usb dongle that allows you to connect to your computer and use voip protocols to phone in, skype, etc. Being able to do that on top of bluetooth connectivity to your phone makes this pretty useful.

Also seems pretty comfortable and sturdy.
