I wonder how Publisher's decide what to allow Amazon and other site's to offer price wise. It doesn't seem to make sense to me that Origin would let Amazon have better prices than their own.

Origin's sales are always bad and riddled with restrictions.

I never know the rules about Amazon and Steam... like if they activate on Steam or not. It seems some stuff does and some stuff doesn't. I assume since it's EA, they don't?

They usually list what client is required in the System Requirements. In this case, the base game uses Origin.

Requires installation of Origin for gameplay.

Amazon has very recently taken great strides in getting DRM information clearly stated on the page of each digital download item. But be warned that if you're buying a bundle, you'll need to check each items individual page for DRM information as their bundles often have mixed DRM.

The rule of thumb with Amazon and EA is that it's always Origin.

It's not a bad game, but it has nowhere near the replay value as The Sims. It's amusing for a few play throughs, but it gets repetitive very quickly. At these prices it's worth checking out. But it's original price? no way.

Is there anyway to gift this?

Also notable for those considering this, according to the most recent Amazon reviews Sims Medieval is not compatible with Windows 8.

I played the first sims but kind of lost interest after that. One thing that has always shyed me away from the sims 3 is the MASSIVE amount of expansion packs. Is it ever possible to buy everything as a bundle, or can someone say what would be good for one playthrough?

Oh and thanks a ton OP, so glad you pointed out this sale. I'd put off buying Sims Medieval forever due to mediocre reviews but I am positive I will get at least $4.99 worth of enjoyment out of this. Stoked!

Now if only I could figure out which Sims 3 xpac to buy (been playing the main game since release but have yet to buy an xpac). Supernatural looks interesting.

The World Adventures pack says it comes with $10 of Simpoints for the Sims store too.

Thanks for posting this. I was able to activate Sims 3 in Origin with the code provided by Amazon, but I was unable to find a "serial code" to register my game and have full online access when prompted in game after I signed in. Has anyone else had this problem?

I went ahead and bought the sims 3. I figure it's a different kind of game I haven't played in a long time, and it should look decent on my triple monitor setup. Plus it's unique, and I get so tired of every PC game being a FPS.

because it is a EA game. no EA game can be activate on steam. you have to get origin and download from that and origin sucks big time because you can't choose where to install your game. it will only install all your game in the C drive

got sims 3 for mac, hope to enjoy it in 124 hours or so when it finishes downloading.

Can others confirm this? Because I was about to buy, but my C drive (where Windows is) is a small SSD and I don't have room to start installing games there.

I'd like to know the same thing because my SSD is getting low on space and I just bought a 1tb drive for my games like this that I won't be playing everyday.

I just downloaded the Command & Conquer pack from Amazon last week and installed them all through Origin. Prior to downloading I was able to go into the Settings > General tab in origin and change the path to my secondary drive for both downloads and game installers.

that is a issue when origin come out first and it wasn't fixed until mid of last year. i guess he haven't use origin for a long time.

I think they just give you a code for origin, so you'd just send the code to someone and do NOT use the code yourself.
Except EA has this weird notion about how pricing a good sale devalues their product. They may be wanting to keep origin higher for most people, and then people looking for a deal will see amazon and jump on it.
I don't think they EVER offered a bundle with everything for Sims 2, let alone sims 3. I feel the same way. Unless I can get everything sims 3 for under $100, I'm not much interested in buying a bunch of bits piecemeal. Even on the best steam sales, all the add-ons are close to $200.
Incorrect. First off you CAN get sims 3 and most/all of its add-on's through steam.

EA removed a few of their titles from steam, mostly because they weren't willing to let steam add the DLC to be available to be purchased through steam for some titles.
Valve basically said "look, you can sell stuff through your in game digital store, fine we don't care. But we want to ALSO be able to sell it through steam, so our users won't have to be bothered going through separate stores for each game if they don't want to"
EA basically replied "screw you, we are removing some of our games then"
Games that don't have in-game digital store exclusive only way to purchase things are mostly still on steam, such as sims.
There ARE a few other games that are origin only though. I think battlefield 3 and that star wars MMORPG are some of them. Those are origin exclusives mostly so EA can try and get marketshare for origin.
I don't know for sure since I'm not a fan of origin and rarely use it. BUT even if its true, with windows you can use junctions to make it think its installed on C when its really installed elsewhere. I did this with steam before they recently allowed you to install stuff elsewhere.

If anyone wants details on how to do this, quote this post and I'll post details.

I can confirm you can change where Origins games are installed . I currently have this done on my system with an SSD and a few platter drives . All my games are installed on a separate platter drive including my Origin games .(using Win7) .

i made a comment half-kiddingly about the slow download speed on my mac before, but i've gotta ask if anyone else is having an issue.

The Sims has to be the world's largest pyramid scheme...how people pay $300-400 for a single game and its expansions is absurd.

It isn't just you. I have been trying since last night to get this to correctly download and it just won't on my mac. The farthest I can get is on the "Sims 3 Installer" and It gets stuck on file 809 of 858.

Going to try and delete everything and start over, but I hope someone has a fix.

Thanks to those with comments re: changing drive to install Origin games. Bought Medieval and was able to install on my "game drive" and not my SSD.

I am so glad that I held out on Sims Medieval as this is the lowest price.

What is the difference between this "Sim 3 Refresh" download $7.49 and "Sim 3" download $29.96 ?

I've never downloaded a game and haven't purchased one for PC probably since the original Black and White. But now I have a new computer and I'm ready to give this a shot. In for Sims 3!

Since my wait time for EA support is 70 mins, maybe somewhere here can help me out...

I was trying to register for the Sims community and it tells me my serial is invalid and I've done it soooo many times now, even with copy and paste, so I know it's not on my end.

Any ideas of why this is happening? I downloaded the PC version.

EDIT: I actually just got through with someone. I'll see how this goes...

EDIT: Ok, so he gets into my account and then tells me to check and see that it is registered. It was, so I guess something did work, after all.

I don't know if it was him or I'm just dumb, but he told me to check my account and it was registered after all. He made me feel like I had messed up, but I'm not positive. I say check your profile for the Sims Community on the website and see for yourself. If it isn't there, do up a live chat. They will get into your account and check.

If I had to guess, I'd say it registered the game for me automatically and was trying for absolutely no reason. But, it for whatever reason yours isn't on the website, still get live chat help. Hope it works out!

ok sorry about origin, as of last april where i stop playing ME3 it wasn't able to install in other drives other than c: i guess it changed.

about steam you can buy sims 3 from steam but you can't activate it if you brought your copy elsewhere, here is the link of the list of games you can activate on steam if brought your copy other than steam. https://support.steampowered.com/...-wusf-3601, but you can activate all your EA game though origin some if u can't activate just contact the costumer service they will add for you

and steam only recently allow you allowed you to install stuff elsewhere is just you can install steam and steam game in a separate drive. actually before if u install your steam in your other drive it will just install all the game in that folder and you can copy paste that folder anywhere u want it will work fine. so not much changed for steam but for origin is a different story, in April 2012 i installed origin in D and my ME3 install though origin still installed in C and when i copy it to other drive game won't work anymore as register screw up, but this time i guess i will give origin a try later when i find a game i want.

Looks like yes the deals are only for downloads and most are only PC downloads.

This is simply not true. You can choose where to install your games. They all need to be installed in the same directory, but you can choose that directory to be anywhere on your computer.

Wow, so apparently the CD key through amazon will not register in-game for online play, anyone have a solution to this?

wow what a piece of junk game, apparently if you registered your product code through ORIGIN, it becomes INVALID to register in-game, meaning you have to contact origin customer support in order to get your online activation, bunch of rocket scientists at EA.

Damn really? I was hoping there was a easier way to get online registration done. Is there any reason to register game online?

yeah especially when I only paid 7 bucks for the original game. I figured get seasons, and pets or generations to add to the gameplay but looks like I'll have to change it up. Seasons seems like it adds a lot.

It always blows my mind how overpriced EA keeps this franchise. Honestly Sims expansions feel like you're playing $40 (new) for maybe just a little bit more than what you get for $10 DLC in other games, they add far less to the game than say a MMO expansion adds for the same $40 price. But the real annoying part is that EA keeps their prices so high YEARS and YEARS after release, $30 normal price for expansion packs that are 2-4 years old at this point, are you kidding? And then when they finally go on sale they only go down to $10-$20 at best usually... I can find pretty much any full retail game that is that many years old at better sale prices than these expansions. It's pretty unusual to find even a triple AAA full $60 title that is still sitting at $30 for PC download 3 years after it's release forget about a 3 year old expansion, yet EA does this with every Sims expansion. Meh.

I guess they are just used to milking the diehard sims fans for all their worth for so many years. I mean if people are willing to actually pay $10-20 for a few clothing items in their sims store constantly, I guess these expansion prices seem like a steal to them lol. Holding out for one day hoping they'll be reasonable and make all the expansion packs, maybe besides the newest one, less than $10, so it's not completely ridiculous to buy all the expansions at once for a game that is so many years old. Maybe if they ever get bored of milking Sims 3 and finally announce Sims 4, the prices on these expansions will finally drop.
