Sodastream syrups reg $4.99 sale $1.46 when you buy 3 Sears B&M

1 Attachment(s)
Sears B&M has their sodastream syrups for $1.46/each when you buy at least 3. Must have the $4.99 syrups, doesn't work for the $6.99 syrups.

Online link [sears.com] to some flavors for reference only

Looks like I'll be paying Sears a visit ... wish they would hurry up with that Sears-Visa thing though

AmishGuy91 02-08-2013 02:55 PM

Was there a sign in store or do they just ring up that way?

cougnole 02-08-2013 03:00 PM

They just rang up that way. Yes, they are $1.46 for each one ($14.60 for 10, etc). There is no link as you must purchase in store, that is why I added B&M

Don't worry - it's sort of hidden. You need to go to the Edit button like you probably already did. After that comes up, with the body of your OP, if you look in the lower right hand corner again, you'll see and "advanced" button. Click on that and you can edit your title as well. I'm wondering if they have a Raspberry that would work for my coffee, why I clicked on the thread.

Yes yes. I have a cabinet full of them, probably around 15 and many are months old and taste just fine still

You can click on the bottle and it will tell you what stores have it in stock.

Good price thinking about heading out to sears.

spycake 02-08-2013 04:24 PM

I would love to see some confirmation from other users, if anyone else gets this deal. Sears isn't that convenient for me, but I would probably go out of my way if I had some more confidence in this being widely applicable.

dubmang 02-08-2013 04:35 PM

how do u guys like these soda machines? are they still filled with high fructorse syrups like the real stuff or anything different? or is it just cheaper to make your own.

I was holding off getting Sodastream for a myriad of reasons. Cost effectiveness being one. However, due to a couple of things 1) getting Co2 dirt cheap using a 3rd party adapter 2) the constant sale of Soda stream flavors makes this a real money saver.

This Sears deal is similar to the Meijer buy 1 get 2 free. At that price, you are like .15 a two liter for flavoring.

I drink a lot of Soda, and another added benefit is not having to buy tons of Soda bottles and having the constant waste.

dogi 02-08-2013 04:52 PM

confirmed in maryland.

Worked in Florida had to ring up 4 to see the 1.46 price.

microkelvin 02-08-2013 05:56 PM

Confirmed.
I cleaned all they got at first sears. Then on the second one i only bought a couple. These expire very soon. The earliest is april 2013 and the latest is dec 2013.

I havent bought any flavors since using all my samplers. I find that crystal light and other powdered mixes taste better than the soda stream flavors. But maybe ill hit sears and try some flavors again.

Agreed. I like mixing other brands in, but I never finished my sampler and really only liked the energy one. Sad that sodastream makes mixes worse than powders.

gloriaintx 02-08-2013 07:51 PM

Confirmed in Dallas area. The crystal light, country time and tea flavors rang up $3.46

Cleaned out most of the non diet flavors at South Center Mall and Town East Mall.

I bought my soda-stream about 6 months ago, and never used the included sampler pack. After reading the ingredients, there was no way I could drink them. Instead, I have used real natural concentrates or home-made juices to flavor my soda mixes. This last time around, I used my juice extractor to juice 1 pound of fresh ginger. I then strained the concentrated ginger juice to remove all the pulp. What was left was a super concentrated ginger juice that I made my delicious fresh ginger soda. I also tried using fresh lemons which also tasted nice. The other sodas I made used organic fruit concentrates, such as, wild blueberry, tart cherry, and pomegrante. One other test I did was using True Lemons Orange powders, and those worked well also. To all my mixes, I add about 2-4 packets of stevita per bottle. The possibilities seem endless, and I have only just started to experiment. Before this, I pretty much had stopped drinking any soda for about 10 years. So, now I can drink my own home-made brews, and I am pleased with the results.

Has anyone else tried making up their own safe alternatives? If so, please tell what you have tried out.

Btw - I was surprised how long my first co2 tank lasted until getting a new one a couple of weeks ago.

That's an awful lot of work, but if it makes you happy, go for it. I don't even own one of these, I just sampled some from the machine I gave to my stepson for Xmas. I was not impressed with ANY of the Sodastream flavors.... and I can assure you HE'S not going to grind down a pound of ginger to make a bottle of soda. :)

Check out the SodaStream "Natural" soda flavors. No artificial sweeteners or corn syrup and natural flavorings. They taste better than regular premade soda, but cost more for "less" servings than the other mixes. These all do have a shelf life according to their website, and they do NOT recommend buying more than you need.

moosika 02-08-2013 09:27 PM

Thanks...I will be checking out Sears in the morning. Not a huge fan on many flavors so I hope that have something we like. Good price.

It's not really much trouble when you consider the enjoyment that you get from drinking a delicious, refreshing, safe drink. Plus, one pound of ginger gave me about a quart of stock to work with. This lasted me a couple of weeks. Some was used for soda, some for just water, some for food stuff. And probably the biggest benefit is the very low cost.

alexpais 02-09-2013 12:43 AM

Ever since reading about sodastream building illegally in Palestine with the help of Israeli military i find it hard to buy sodastream products....

I get my CO2 canister refills at Bed Bath and Beyond. Subscribe to their email and they will email and mail 20% off coupon periodically. Also there will be a $5 off coupon in their periodic mailer for $15 purchase - so I usually pay $10 for the CO2 refill

Btw - I was surprised how long my first co2 tank lasted until getting a new one a couple of weeks ago.

I take a bunch of mint, the juice of 2 limes 1.5cups of water and 2/3 cup natural sugar. Simmer for about an hour, strain the mix, reduce by half, and you have a great syrup. I mix with carb water for a clean refreshing soda, do a 25/25/50 mix with syrup, orange juice, carb water. The soda also makes a great mixer, very good with gin! I've also made a tamarind syrup using a simple syrup recipe and simmering fresh tamarind for about 2 hours.

Lots of great possibilities! Just start experimenting!

noobhere 02-09-2013 01:38 PM

thanks OP, bought 6 different mixer. They all seem to expire toward the end of 2013, nonetheless it's still a great price.

Lukeed 02-09-2013 01:40 PM

Also 50/50 carb water/juice mix is very refreshing and less calories then "light" juice (which is just watered down)

Lukeed 02-09-2013 01:43 PM

Lastly: a tablespoon of sweet cream in soda water makes an amazing cream soda (sub cream liquor for a great adult version)

LordAthens 02-09-2013 03:11 PM

(Semi) confirmed in Pittsburgh. It took four bottles before the discount kicked in, not three (TU none the less). Picked up 7 bottles for $12.63 out the door (one of the bottles was Peach Tea, which was $3.46, everything else was 1.46. Expiration dates are much earlier than I've seen at other retailers, May and December 2013 for what I picked up (Fountain Mist, Cherry Cola, Peach Tea Crystal Light). All of the Ginger Ale expired September 2012.

Clerk had no idea at all about any sale what so ever, including the one that was actually advertised (4.99 marked down to 4.79).

The "regular" sale price sign I believe said it went through the 16th. I'm not sure if the other sale that everyone has been scooping up, but I would guess that it does. Worth a shot to see if it's still valid tomorrow if you have a Sears not to far away.

deshwasi 02-09-2013 04:23 PM

thanks. the "glitch" sale may very well last until 16th as well then. its sears after all. will try tomorrow.

They do ring up with 3, it just doesn't add the 3rd one to the total salescheck to apply the discount until the associate hits accept for the item. Buy just 3 and it will work. It has been working with the 4th one because it automatically adds the 3rd one to the salescheck when the 4th one is scanned. Just the way their systems work, but you can get the deal with 3.

Stickboy46 02-09-2013 05:05 PM

Picked up 3 cherry cokes, 3 energy, 2 colas, a fountain mist and a orange for 20 bucks

MOkoFOko 02-09-2013 05:45 PM

Bought 21 bottles for around $45 after tax--should make good gifts. Half of the bottles in stock had expirations of March 2013 or earlier. A bunch of bottles (ginger ale in particular) actually expired in 2011!!! I didn't even realize these things were being sold back in 2011, let alone 2010.

Just an FYI... Sams Club B&M and online sell soda syrups for $15-$20 per gallon. LINK [samsclub.com]. They also sell big brand syrups for about $80 per 5 gallons. LINK [samsclub.com] 5 gallons of syrup makes 30 gallons of soda... which works out at around 60 2-liter bottles. Not great.

z281969454 02-09-2013 07:23 PM

It worked at the Wyomissing, PA Sears. Checked out with 3 bottles first to make sure, then went back for some more. The selection wasn't good but I can't complain for the price.

mwalt2 02-09-2013 07:24 PM

Guess I'll have to hit sears tomorrow and hope it's still going on.

FWIW, I just did the dry ice refill method and it worked great. Just go to Lowes and get the $14 strap wrench and use that with a crescent to take off the valve. It was really easy with the 2 wrenches. No banging on a log and not a whole lot of force required. I also used a scale to measure out the right amount of crushed up dry ice.

Wal-Mart. Publix. Probably Wal-Greens too. Should be in the freezer area. Tell an employee you want to buy some. 1.5-2 pounds should be sufficient to fill the original tank.

Best "deal" I saw on the refill was at Walmart. Guy brought in his empty with his receipt and said he needed to do an "exchange." Cashier didn't know anything about it, called over a CSM and they said to process it as a return and rebuy......so dude walked out with new canister for free!

After he left I told the cashier how it was supposed to work and she just shrugged and said "you heard what she told me to do....I've never even seen those things." Probably should have run home and grabbed my empty canister too, but we don't use it.

Probably the worst $70 I've spent. Drinks aren't that great. Cost is same (or more) than buying regular soda. And can be messy. Love pouring the syrup in and having it bubble up out of the bottle.

When I do drink soda, I drink more than the size of the bottle, so the whole "saving earth with a reusable bottle" argument doesn't work for me.

Bottle of syrup is $5 (normally). That makes 12 liters. I never pay more than $1 for a 2L bottle of soda, so the syrup is a little better price-wise. Add in the cost of the machine and the CO2 and it ends up being more expensive.

If I want to have more than 1 bottle (comes with 1/2 L IIRC?), those are $7+ per bottle.....and they need to be replaced.

Directly from Sodastream:

Quote:

Why does the carbonating bottle have an expiration date?
Since the bottle has to withstand recurring pressure from carbonation, it cannot be used forever. The expiration date on the bottle must be checked and new bottles purchased as soon as the former expires. The bottles must also be replaced if put in the dishwasher, exposed to a heat source, or if they have become scratched. All components of carbonating bottles are recyclable. Check with your local recycling authority for more information.

It's a nice racket......and good for those that enjoy it.

In my area (Massachusetts), Walmart and grocery stores do NOT sell dry ice.. I've had to get it from a dry ice/regular ice distributor about 20 minutes away.
fyi - regarding the video, I don't understand how he didn't crack his cutting board.. mine cracked instantly when i tried to crack the ice.. but otherwise, it works perfectly.

Thanks, I'll probably give that a try when my current tank goes dry.

I've got 4 of the 1L bottles (came with the 2x Jet/Genesis I bought for 50% off), and they're heavy-duty. You're not supposed to wash them in the dish washer. I don't care what the stream site says--I plan on using those bottles for a very long time--I'd be shocked to see those things crack or fail.

Most grocery stores are supposed to carry it--guess it's regional. But it can't hurt to call grocery stores in your area and find out!!

I've had my machine for two months and not once did it bubble out of the bottle. You are told directly in the instructions to pour the soda mix in sideways, not directly into the bottle.

This. I've experienced minor bubble-over because I shook a bit too much, but I always open over the sink after the first mixing. The issue can be avoided entirely by a controlled release of the screwcap.

This is only a pricy investment if you're paying retail for everything (machine, syrups, CO2 cannisters). If a dry ice refill only runs $2, I can avoid investing in one of those $50+ adapters for CO2 refills at paintball shops (around $5). That really puts the future price solely on syrups.

I've had mine for about a year and with certain flavors it always bubbles out of the bottle. I tried pouring half in at a time but I always end up making a mad dash to the sink, lol. I guess this is one of those times when I should have read the instructions. It makes sense now that I think about it. You wouldn't tap a beer without tilting a glass....

I have the FreedomOne from co2 doctor, while expensive, it has paid for itself over and over :

http://co2doctor.com/freedomoonespec.htm

I use a 20lbs co2 tank, which only costs $18 to refill. Almost the same price as a 1lb sodastream refill!

Yep, a 20lb refill will easily last a full year. I don't expect to recoup my investment ($120 freedom one adapter, $50 co2 tank, $19 refill) for more than a year, but I think it was worth it. It's definitely worth it to me not to have to go find a new tank ever month and swap them out.

I still haven't found a great camouflage for the tank, but a cheap plastic trash can has worked ok so far.

deshwasi 02-09-2013 08:54 PM

ha ha. nice camo there. can i see the naked canister as well? is it that big to be bulging out of the trash? we have lotsa kids around. is the 20lb canister (or any of the refillable ones) safe to be knocked around by kids?

Yeah, we know all about the whole process....

- don't fill the bottle to the top with water.

- tilt the bottle and pour the syrup slowly.

Still happens. And not much point of making a 0.5L bottle of soda if it really isn't a 0.5L bottle of soda.

Guess you could always just mix up a bottle then pour it into another bottle until you have enough soda to get you through the day. Then again, I'm not a science guy and the whole mixing and pouring into test tubes isn't my thing.

Makes perfect sense why the in-store rep refused to make more than half a bottle at a time, even when he had 8 people standing around and wanting to try the same flavor.....no sink for him to run over to to stop the mess.

Not sure why they never put a "spout" on the measuring lid - I'm sure it would make it easier to pour into the bottle.

Never figured out why the syrup includes artificial sweeteners in the non-diet flavors. The cola and orange soda flavors (and I'm sure others.....don't feel like digging those out of the pantry right now) both include Splenda and acesulfame potassium, along with regular sugar. Guess that is to cut down on sugar and calories, but not really keen on pumping my kids full of artificial sweeteners for the few cans of soda they drink each week.

Again, good for those that enjoy the system. Was great fun for the kids to show all their friends, but quickly died out for us. Kids seemed to prefer "regular" soda and within a week or two it was sitting around collecting dust. Good to see the syrup is coming down it price.....appears that it was closer to $6 ($5.79) when we bought the system......then again, we always seem to have 30% off at Kohl's, so it was closer to $4 per bottle.

The whole carbonated juice thing sounds kind of cool.

I assume they do it so that they appear 'healthier' and also because you can't concentrate real sugar as much. Their 'natural' mixes with cane sugar use twice as much syrup compared to the ones with artificial sweeteners (costs more per bottle and makes 1/2 the amount compared to the artificial sweetener mixes).

I think it depends a lot on the flavors you go with. Of the sodastream original flavors, I think the root beer and dr pete flavors are the best, and closest to the store taste. The countrytime flavors are just plain superb, and there's really no substitute at the store. I'm not a fan of their Cola flavor--though I haven't tried the more expensive cane-sugar version yet.

You're telling me your kids would rather drink milk and water--and would let the sodastream system sit in a closet? That tells me you must be doing something very, very wrong. And why don't you get 1L bottles instead of 0.5L--it'll obviously cut down on the number of times you have to refill. And I've had good experiences refilling the 1L bottles--cannot speak for the 0.5L. If you're really having that much trouble, it's either a problem with the smaller capacity bottles, or you're not doing it right.

I used to buy generic Soda's, and I can't count the number of times I got a bottle that was flat or semi-flat. Even if the sodastream syrup taste isn't quite as good as similar coke/pepsi products, it's still better than the generics--without a doubt. And as a kid, I happily drank the generic soda (which tasted like swill) when water was the other option--which is why I cannot understand why your kids would shun the sodastream concoctions. This may be another "back in my day" kind of argument, but kids are kids--they'll take whatever soda they can get.

It's 2.5 feet tall, so it sticks up. I have yet to find a cheap, tall, skinny black trash can with a flip top. You also have to make it kind of obvious that there's a tank in it so people don't use it for trash.

And you don't want your kids knocking over any sized tank with highly compressed gas, especially a 20lb one. Not to mention the fact that knocking it over would yank your sodastream off the counter, possibly breaking it and the co2doctor adapter.

Enjoralas 02-09-2013 09:39 PM

It's certainly not any cheaper, but this guy has some awesome syrups:

http://pittsburghsodapop.com/

Every one I have tried is better than anything I have tried from Sodastream, even the natural rootbeer. The energy drink on that site is about a dead ringer for Red Bull. I made Red Bull and vodkas with it at my Super Bowl party and people didn't even know the difference.

I have also bought flavor concentrates from this website which you mix with simple syrup, which is certainly cheaper than full price Sodastream syrups:

http://www.prairiemoon.biz/fulflavlissa.html

But I haven't messed with those yet. Made some bubblegum soda syrup for the kids at the SB party, but that's the only one I've messed with and refuse to even try it myself, lol.

Just some other options out there for SS owners, even if they aren't cost savers.

All the ginger ale at my store expired in 2011. A few bottles in December 2013, and maybe 10 bottles in the august/september timeframe. Most of the bottles were March 2013, and a few more were around September 2012.

The newest bottles they had were February 2014--all of them were Cherry Cola--and completely bought out those ones :bounce:

Are you sure it wasn't just off hidden in some strange area? You may have asked an incompetent Sears employee. In my store, everything was on a single rack in the home appliances area next to the bedding department. They had 2011 expiration-date bottles, so obviously it had been there for a very long time.

I was thinking the same thing when I read this persons post because it took me quite a while to find the little rack on wheels they were displayed on in my store. But I put in the zip for Columbia, MO on the sears website and it said unavailable there for 3 flavors, so looks like they don't have them.

Just picked up 15 to split between 2 house holds, thanks everyone...this is better than b1g2 crazy :)

LouTheJ 02-10-2013 12:02 PM

Went to two different Sears in Buffalo, one of them doesn't sell any and the other only had 2 or 3 diet flavors left. *le sigh*

kingaffiliation 02-10-2013 12:11 PM

Ann Arbor, MI Sears had a lot of expired syrups, some even expired in mid-2011.

I was able to get 6 of the $5 bottles for $1.46/ea, as well as 3 of the $7 bottles for $3.46/ea.

Good deal. Thanks, OP.

Wish I would've tried scanning 3 of the 1L bottles to see if they were on sale. Anyone try this yet?

lookitsmikel 02-10-2013 12:12 PM

I couldn't help myself, I went back and bought 14 more. It was such an amazing deal, I figured it would be worth a try to freeze it. I cannot imagine how it could hurt the product, and this way it will stay fresh past it's sell by date. I now literally have enough for a year!

kdogctown 02-10-2013 12:44 PM

Still working. Someone beat me to the regular flavored ones but since I drink diet it was all good. I got 10 for 14 dollars. Still some left at the Waldorf.MD sears but may go back for more since it is too good to pass up and use the 15% coupon.

Confirmed! Sears at the Solomon Pond Mall Marlboro MA. I just bought sooooo many!

I find most of the SS syrups to be garbage. Due to the sweeteners that they use they all have a diet / aspartame taste to them. That said, there are a few flavors that we're ok with.

Fountain Mist - Close enough to Mt Dew that I'll drink it and I'm a pretty die hard Dew guy

Dr Pete - Not as "spicy" as Dr Pepper, our household thinks that it tastes like mixing Dr Pepper and Pepsi. I like it

Energy Drink - Pretty close to Red Bull. I'm more of a Monster Import fan, but the cost savings on buying this has me switched (though I don't believe it is as effective as Red Bull or Monster as an actual energy drink. I believe it really only has a high dose of caffeine, none of the "extras")

Lemon-Lime - I'm a big fan of this. Doesn't taste like Sprite, doesn't taste like Sierra Mist. It has it's own taste that we're all pretty fond of.

Pink Grapefruit - Tastes like.. pink grapefruit.. Very light and refreshing.

Root Beer - This one is at the bottom of the "drinkable" list for us. We all pretty much prefer Pepsi products which tend to be sweeter than the Coke counterparts. IE, I really like Mug root beer. This is closer to Barq's or something, but is has a diety/aspartamey after -taste.

I haven't tried the ginger ale yet, but I want to. I would be surprised if it's possible to really screw that one up.

wakethewicked2 02-10-2013 04:30 PM

We went to the Sears in Albuquerque,Nm @ coronado mall and got 6 bottles of syrup for under 9 bucks! :whee:

They were ringing up @4.79 each at the little scanner things but when the employees rang up all 3 and hit subtotal it took them down each to the 1.43 each, and even less with the coupon in the sunday paper! I plan on hitting up our other Sears in town tomorrow. haha

Thanks OP!

You should have asked a sales rep if that store carries sodastream products...

LordAthens 02-10-2013 06:52 PM

For those having problems finding the SS products, I had a hard time finding them as well. I ended up finding a very small cardboard display near the pots and pans in the households section. The display was only ~4' tall by maybe 1.5' x 1.5'. Not large at all.

mnx12 02-10-2013 07:05 PM

I went to the store by me, and they didn't even have any of the machines, let alone any of the syrups. I asked one of the guys, and he thought I said sewing machines and sent me back to that area. I was seriously confused for a minute why they would have them in that area. Everyone there was clueless.

I'm going to check the one by my school tomorrow.

Nothing amazing. If you're in a time-crunch, keep an eye out for a 30% off kohl's coupon, or one of those 15%-20% BB&B coupons. A few weeks ago, you could have gotten a genesis for $50 at BB, but that was a one day promotion.

maybe the new one is a bit easier and quicker by the looks, not that the original was time consuming or anything but I'll tell you, i never use it anymore, it's so much quicker and easier and most importantly, less messy to just grab a can from the fridge.

Soda stream is a exercise in futility because if you aren't lighting fast between pouring in the syrup and feverously screwing on the cap you end up with a wonderful sticky mess spraying all over the kitchen. It's simply a bad design that is completly dependnt on how fast you can screw on the cap after dumping in the syrup because if you mess up once it's a friggen disaster....and yes, the grape and orange stain like a mofo, dont even think for a second you could let the kids use this.

Next time don't try putting on the cap. All you have to do is put your palm over the top to seal the container for a few seconds and then release and everything is golden.

A couple of weeks ago, a bunch of us found them clearanced for $29.99 at Target. With the mail in rebate they had (expired on 1/31), cost was $9.99. I doubt Target has any left, but might be worth a look. Here's the link to the thread with an inventory checker...

I'm not experiencing any of the issues you're having. You're following the directions, and pouring in at an angle? Are you carbonating to 3 buzzes, or beyond?

My only issue pops up when I first unseal after mixing/shaking the syrup in the bottle--but I quickly learned that I can control the release of the cap to avoid any bubble-over.

The problems that some of you seem to face completely baffle me--the sodastream process has been a relatively painless one for me.

It doesn't really matter how much of an "angle" you hold it on.....pouring sugar into carbonated water acts as a condensation nuclei, it's going to release the carbon dioxide, it's only a matter of time, less syrup and you might have a better chance but it's still going to happen.

I'm in the boat that i find the recommended amounts to be pretty bland and flavorless, I find i need to put about 1 1/2 times the recommended amount (depending on the flavor) and that in turn causes an even greater release of carbon dioxide when introducing the syrupy, it's a vicious circle.

Try just pouring half the syrup in and wait ten seconds then the other half to prevent foam overs.

This is what I do. Never had any issues. The syrup bottle cap makes for a slightly awkward pour, so sometimes I get a few drops on the outside of the bottle too, but nothing serious. I could see why you wouldn't want a young kid doing it, but this part of the process is trivial.

I'm guessing most of the users complaining about this actually take issue with the overall convenience and/or cost (which are two very real, valid concerns for some users), and it is just manifesting itself in these more petty complaints.

You are doing something wrong. Make sure to fill the bottle only to fill line, pour syrup in slowly and at an angle, letting it run down the inside of the mouth. I like a lot of carbonation, and the only time I had the problem you desribe was the first time I used it--user error, dumping it all straight in at once.

.

I don't shake the soda after I pour the mix in. I hold the soda in two hands and roll the bottle sideways a few times to get the mix shaken around.. never had any problems opening it doing it this way.

You are definitely doing it wrong. I have never had any of the issues you are experiencing. It's not a bad design at all if you follow the instructions correctly. I suggest you don't "dump" the syrup in. Just tilt the bottle sideways and pour the syrup in on it's side so it rolls down the top of the bottle and into the water.. It's really not that complicated.

gloriaintx 02-11-2013 07:45 AM

My 7 year old makes his own soda all the time without a problem.

ALForb 02-11-2013 07:49 AM

To avoid messes when adding the syrup the carbonator bottle with the water in it must be held at a 45 degree angle so that the gas can escape as you add the syrup

happy_mom 02-11-2013 07:54 AM

I like it I pour syrup in a glass and add the carbonated water. This gives me some flexibility as my kids wants different flavor

B2020vision 02-11-2013 07:55 AM

I am late on this deal. My store shows the flavors as in stock for pick up today. Do you think that is accurate?

After you buy 3 are they all the same price? Do you think the deal is still going on?

I don't care what the stream site says--I plan on using those bottles for a very long time--I'd be shocked to see those things crack or fail.

Most grocery stores are supposed to carry it--guess it's regional. But it can't hurt to call grocery stores in your area and find out!!

I had a bottle literally explode on me. Granted it was a little deformed from being near a hot stove but still. It felt and sounded like a bomb went off.

Starter kit only came with one bottle. I balked when I saw the price of the replacement bottles.....decided to wait and see how much we actually used it before making more than the initial $100 investment (machine and 6-7 bottles of syrup....with 30% off at Kohl's).

I really wish they'd drink more milk.....and they're all over that with the Bosco, but they aren't real big milk drinkers. Youngest will take water 90% of the time...always have a couple of cases of bottled water (yeah, we like killing the earth, one bottle at a time ;))

Orange or grape soda seem to be the requests, or Sprite, Mist or root beer. At least those are all caffeine free.....those little rugrats are hyper enough as it is, don't need to give them another reason to bounce off the walls!

Wish juice was an option, but can't seem to get the wife to buy that....other than OJ, which disappears faster than anything else (which I would think would tell her something!).

I won't pretend that the drink pouches are any healthier than soda, but we always have plenty of those in the house and that is what they grab.....and just heard about the potential for mold. Pass that on to the wife and she'll never buy them again!

When they do drink soda, youngest seems to have a hard time even finishing a can. Oldest will usually just drink 1 can and be done.

Oh, and not big candy eaters either. Their Halloween candy easily lasts a year.....we usually end up throwing it away.

Not sure what is wrong with them!

That is the definition of "shaking". No matter how gently you adjust that bottle, it is going to bubble to some degree when you undo that cap for the first time--unless you really want to risk not getting a proper mix. In any case, I never have the bubbleover issue anymore--it's easy to control the fume release with the cap.

There is a difference between shaking something and gently rolling it a few times.. you must be shaking it well beyond it's requirement. Again, I've never had any type of bubbling that you are having.. I would also suggest that you do not over fill the bottle past the dotted line.. that can contribute to the soda bubbling out..

If your bottle was deformed by extreme heat, not surprised it failed. Did the bottle shatter at all--ie did pieces break off and fly outwards?

That's your opinion--I've found a method that works for me, and results in zero mess. Rolling it is still shaking it. The instructions provided by sodastream are certainly open to interpretation. At the very least, I've guaranteed myself a better mix than you--with no ill effects.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have been using it. It didn't shatter, just explosively split in two. The noise was incredible though, sounded like a bomb went off. The seltzer sprayed far and wide and I had to check my hands to see if they were still in one piece.

That said, many times I have used bottles that were past the expiration date (not deformed) and have had no problems as long as they were in good shape and not damaged.

LOL, think about how violently you would have to shake the bottle or how many blasts of Co2 it would take to make anything more than a hissing noise when u crack the bottle. You would think that after the 14th blast of Co2 this person might say, "Too much, maybe?" These stories about the bottle blasting into a million bits after a couple of blasts of Co2 and rotating the bottle 3 1/2 turns are hard to believe!. This is the same person who swears the gas petal got stuck when they slammed on brakes!
