Anyone with experience using this compared to a Roomba 5xx series? This thing sure is ugly, but how does it clean?
Also, is it using crappy NiCads like Roomba, or is it using longer-lasting Lithium-Ion? |
Anyone know when this rebate ends. I won't be able to make it out to Costco until tomorrow.

I bought a neato on the last deal here. It runs for an hour or two then goes back to its base to recharge. it then goes back out to finish the job. I think it does a super job and even at the $280 I paid, I feel it is well worth it.
I got mine at walmart and paid $230 plus tax and an extra $30 for the 3 year warranty. This way I will know for sure it will last me 4 years. It (the battery) lasts longer on hardwood and tile versus carpet. Either way I do not mind because it gets the job done and the dust bin is always filled with crap that I do not want to breathe in or track around the house. My floors look great all the time now. |

Sticking with our roombas, I guess. |
I've had mine for 4 days and I just stare at it going around. I guess that defeats the purpose since I should be putting that extra time saved to good use, but it's just so cool. From what I can gather, the Neato is more efficient than the Roomba as it tracks its movement better and scans the room. Anyway, all I can say after owning one is that I was really missing out and wish I would have gotten one sooner.
I may just have to pick up another for my basement. ;) |
I returned my XV-21 because of poor battery life (15 minutes) and a sticky button (kept pausing). Will definitely be buying another though once I find it at a decent price again. I will probably opt for the XV-12 and then debate on whether to get the Pet kit as an addon. We had it running twice a week, and then once every couple of weeks we just went around the base boards with the Dyson. Even then, the Dyson wasn't picking up much, so the Neato wasn't really missing anything.
Once you have one, you won't know how you lived without it. |
Neato wins by a long shot
I have two dead room as in the closet. Even when working, they a random pattern vacuum, just bouncing randomly around with the presumption if you bounce long enough you will get all of the room.
The Neato is an engineered product... It scans each room it enters , and as it goes. It doesn't sweep the same spot twice. It runs until the battery gets low, and then beelines back to the charging station to recharge... And then goes back out to finish exactly where it left off. We have a very large home, and let Neato run at 9am every M W Fr, and its all done when my wife gets home at 5pm. Each carpet in the house has perfect lines of a freshly vacuumed carpet... It looks luxurious. NEVER had that with Roomba. And the boundaries are no comparison either... Roomba was these incredibly stupid little door stops that had batteries in them that you had to across doorways you wanted to block off. They weren't cheap, and who wants to keep swapping out the batteries and turn them on and off? Neato uses a simple magnetic strip... Lay it down if you want to block something... And can even put it under the carpet so you never even see it! The only downside is the lack of a side brush to vacuum right along the baseboard... But we find that this area doesn't really get dirty, and occasionally using the dyson for that is fine. |
I want one, but the fact they're made in China just kills me.

By being allowed to operate in this way they undercut the ability of US based manufacturing to compete (some of our own government regs are just as much to blame, too). Every time you buy something made in China, you are supporting their business practices. Of course it's near-impossible to completely stay away from Chinese-made products, but when given a choice, it's one more factor to consider when deciding whether or not to buy, right up there with price, quality, customer service, and merchant reputation. It seems like about 10-20% of our food is coming from China these days as well.... |

What's the minimum square footage your house should have before you don't feel like a lazy bastard for buying one of these? My house is below 2000 spread over 2 floors but the kids and cat make a huge mess.

Don't let this thing into your house. I had one, it banged my girlfriend, ran up my credit cards, and ran away with my toaster.

I bought the Neato XV-11 w. pet upgrade from Groupon for $280 2 weeks ago. After ~1 week of use I'm already 100% happy with my purchase. The Neato does an excellent job of cleaning our small living room and attached kitchen and manages to pick up a shocking amount of dog fur every time.
I love the fact that it trundles under the sofa and merrily makes its way over pieces of wood, laptop chargers, etc. without skipping a beat. I'm pretty shocked that my dog just ignores the Neato as it goes about its business (whereas he's semi aggressive towards regular vaccuums) Versus the Roombas. I don't own a Roomba, but I have researched them. The most surprising fact that I don't see regularly advertised is that Roombas clean by following a random walk, this means there is a lot of redundancy in the areas of carpet they go over; it takes a Roomba a lot longer to cover the same area a Neato can cover. That's not to say that the Neato does not demonstrate any carpet redundancy, it is obsessed with the underside of my sofa for some reason! While the Neato doesn't have a side brush for baseboards, it does an admirable job of following along the edges of the baseboard and all furniture. The brush spans most of the width of the Neato so it seems to do a fine job of picking up dust along the edges. On a different board someone made the reasonable observation, if you are running a Neato or Roomba everyday you won't accumulate dust and hair at the carpet edges in the first place. The other thing I see regularly mentioned is that the Neato has superior suction power when compared to the Roomba, but you need the pet brush to really see the benefits from that. There are somethings about the Neato that truly astound me. I had a heavy dog toy that was below the height of the sensor so the Neato only knew about it by banging its bumper as it navigated around it. About 25 minutes later it finished cleaning (in the kitchen) and it drove back into the living room, deliberately circumnavigating the toy! This means 25 minutes of cleaning later, having gone into a different room, the Neato still remembered exactly where this toy was relative to itself. That is a feat of fantastic engineering and software if you ask me. So far the only down sides are: 1) 1/4 times it won't dock, it goes close to the dock and then somehow gets disoriented, I believe this is because of slightly awkward dock placement. 2) My mum called me idle! |
i've seen it for about the last week at this price in myrtle beach, sc

Can someone please post a scan of the price or the receipts so i will get a price match?

I tried the neato for six weeks. I just took it back to Costco and ordered the roomba online. The neato will go through its barrier and get into rooms you do don't want it in. The neato website says this is a known problem. The "wall" for the neato is really objectionable. It is a thick piece of black magnetic strip. Neato suggests you glue it to your floor to keep it from pushing through. I'm not gluing a black strip to my tile floor.
Other neato problems were that it only returned to its base 1 out of 7 times it ran. It does not handle throw rugs well at all. It will get stuck under dining room chairs. I'm a roomba owner as well. It has its problems. The neato cleans better than the roomba. It does not nick you furniture by constantly bumping into it like the roomba does. Given the pros and cons. I will take the roomba. The price reduction does not matter. Having owned both, I would not take the neato even if it were free. It required more attention than vacuuming and sweeping. I'm not anti neato. It was just more trouble than it was worth. |
I do not have the problem alanand indicates, we have granite floors in our kitchen and adjacent family room . The only time you would have an issue in returning to the base is if someone actually moves the thing while it's cleaning the floor - I think that's when it gets confused.
We have started using painter's extendable polls to create barriers for other areas because the magnetic strip provided doesn't cover all the opening in our kitchen. Just got the price adjusted at Costco, we had bought it more than 6 weeks ago. Thus far, despite high level of decibel we are happy with its performance. |
thanks OP, just picked it up at the costco in Michigan. What I wish it would do is run for a set number of hours then return to its base and finish the rest of the floor during its next session. Guess none of the vacuums do that.

Houston area does not currently have the Neato in stock. If this changes please post.

Do you know if this deal is still going on? Anyone found it for the price in DC metro area? Thanks.

For anyone around NYC, these are available at the Lawrence, NY location. There's no instant rebate listed on the price tag but it comes up at the register. They had ~15 more there this morning.

Thanks for the information. I'm gonna go check out my Costco, hope it comes up at the register. Will update. |
Well, it's not stocked at my local store; they've just got the Pet Roomba 595.
And it's $279.99 online so... I guess I'll have to wait it out. |
Any one got one from DFW. $200 for this or $250 for Rooomba 630.
|
Called a couple nearest stores and none have it in stock and some say it's been deleted from the system.
Still available online but at $280... |
There were a bunch of these at Costco yesterday so my wife and I decided to try one out. We have an old crappy vacuum that sufficed in our 1 bedroom apartment but we just moved to a house and was hoping to supplement our vacuuming with a Neato.
We ran it last night for the first time. I was impressed with the amount of hair and dust that it picked up. We were not impressed with how it operated on hardwood floor, it left a lot of little things on hardwood that were easily visible. We also woke up to what seem like really random lines in our living room in the carpet. We'll give it a week or two to redeem itself, otherwise we'll probably return it and get a nicer vacuum. |
Just spotted this at Costco in Winter Park.
