Your thread should say "Triple Thrill pack" not "Triple Pack"... the way you have it makes it seem like you're getting 3 game codes for $3.99.

Thanks OP, repped.

pkim1230 02-11-2013 05:58 PM

is this better than the first one?

Macgyver2484 02-11-2013 06:05 PM

Way better. Same gameplay style (unlike RCT3), but with more rides, shops, challenges, etc. They took the first game and just made everything better.

ruok 02-11-2013 06:07 PM

Dammit, I'm buying this, ty OP. I have a lot of respect for GoG, they suckered me in with a free fallout giveaway and now they are the only place I will buy digital games other than steam (and occasionally and begrudgingly amazon).

Love that they bundle the appropriate emulation software with old games for dummies like me so they run on new versions of Windows. I never would have bought anything like Theme Hospital before because I was too intimidated by words like dos-box, but these guys make it easy.

Nope, RCT 1 was better. While 2 added plenty of great things, many of the small changes (such as how the land tools/etc worked) got worse.

RC2 was exactly the same game w/ tons more scenery objects and new rrides. The only pitfall of the second one was that lots of the scenarios already have half built parks. 1st one let you start from scratch more often.

I remember in the first game, one of the scenarios gave you infinite money and a huge ass sandy landscape to build rides. I had over 40 roller coasters by the end... If only I can get that save file off of my Pentium 1 machine back at my folk's home... I'd play it again.

I played through all the original parks as a kid and am currently halfway through corkscrew follies. It's fantastic!

I don't care what anyone says... RCT is still a beautifully crafted game.

ProContra 02-11-2013 09:09 PM

This game is amazing, remembered playing it when I was small.

geost 02-11-2013 09:22 PM

Dang. So I downloaded it, but I can't even get the game to start correctly. As soon as I launch it, my screen starts flickering mad crazy. It's almost as if I'm hitting alt-tabbing out (ctrl-tab? lol) between my desktop and the game. wth? I updated my video drivers, and it's still doing it like crazy.

This is on my Thinkpad T410 with Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. Anyone have any ideas? I tried compatibility mode, run as admin, and nothing has worked. :(

Kaessa 02-11-2013 09:34 PM

If you have problems running it in Windows 8, it runs perfectly in Windows XP Compatibility Mode.

Game is boss.

Does it go to high res? 1080p or 1600p ?

According to the RCT wiki... the answer is no.

Quote:

If you want to play RollerCoaster Tycoon in a widescreen resolution, you will need to edit the RCT.exe with a Hex Editor [1] (create a backup first!). You need to search for these two hex values: "58 02 00 00 68 20 03 00 00" and "20 03 00 00 c7 45 f4 58 02 00 00". In both of them you have to change 20 03 to the new width and 58 02 to the new height. In the game, you need to switch to Fullscreen 800x600 in the options menu, as that is the resolution you customized with this method.
Working ResolutionsEdit

1280 x 720 (16:9): Change 20 03 to 00 05, 58 02 to d0 02.
1280 x 768 (15:9): Change 20 03 to 00 05, 58 02 to 00 03.
1280 x 1024 (5:4): Change 20 03 to 00 05, 58 02 to 00 04.

Higher resolutions won't work, though lower resolutions should be possible. Ensure that the wanted resolution is compatible with your video card settings, otherwise it will be set to 640x480.

The hexadecimal values are calculated by converting the width or height number from decimal to hex, then inverting the order of the bytes. For example, 720 in decimal is 2D0 in hex (this can be converted with the Windows calculator in scientific mode). Adding a zero to the left we get two bytes, 02 D0. Inverting the order we get d0 02.

Another example: 800 (decimal) -> 320 (hex) -> 03 20 -> 20 03 which is the width value to be changed from the 800x600 resolution.

I think 2nd was my favorite because it improved an already great game. Ended up buying both just for old times sake. Too bad the first wasn't sale as well.

rholler 02-12-2013 03:50 AM

Hmmm, when I click the Buy Now link from SlickDeals, the price is $9.99, not $3.99. (?)

bdholton 02-12-2013 04:21 AM

Seems like it is 9.99 now.

Its been a long time since I played. You think suitible for a First grader?

No go on XP compatibility. It still does the same thing. I'll try to take video to show what I'm talking about.

You got it backwards, the first had half built parks while the 2nd had parks to build from scratch. BUT the 2nd also had the SIX FLAGS parks that were completely built. i didnt really like the 2nd one for all of its empty parks, it was like doing the exact same thing over and over, and i was already getting tired of it after playing through the first and its expansions. i really liked building off of a park that was already patially started and themed. it didnt have to have 10 roller coasters, just 1 to go with the theme and work around. the designers got a bit lazy with loopy in that all of the new coaster designs didnt have pre-built designs for you to wor with, not that it mattered to me much as i was already a master designer :) the pre-built water coaster in loopy landscapes was always a favorite as well ad the flying coaster in the martian themed park. or was it a vertical coaster? lol oh the memories. i love roller coasters, been riding since the cradle.

for those who dont know, there are websites to download user submitted parks and coaster tracks, for the parks you might have to download a trainer and update the version number to whatever it requires but its fun to look at people's crazy theme jobs. some people spend 100 years (rct time) designing them, they are true works of art.

I played the 2nd one way back in the day. Don't have it anymore. The third isn't as good?

Matt8 02-12-2013 05:32 AM

Great deal, but it seems that it is $9.99 for me, and therefore dead.

Sneke_Eyez 02-12-2013 05:34 AM

Aww, come on! I looked at it last night but wanted to go to bed, so I didn't download it. I figured, eh, this will still be around tomorrow. Now its $9.99 again. SD effect, I tell yah.

I found RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 to be a bit disappointing.

I played the original RCT quite a bit back in the day. Even at the time it came out, its graphics were a little dated-looking, but the game was very well done and nicely polished. Sure it didn't have fancy 3D ridable rides or anything, but what was there worked well. I didn't play RCT2, but from what I gathered from reviews, it was simply more of the same, with mostly reused graphics and only minor tweaks, and was considered more of a standalone expansion than a proper sequel.

RCT3 was a big upgrade in terms of graphics, but the gameplay felt subpar compared to its predecessors, and it had plenty of rough edges and missing features. The first-person coaster-cam was a nice touch, but many other parts of the game felt somewhat lacking. The developer of the first two games had little to do with the development of RCT3, and the lack of attention to detail showed. I never really got into playing it much, though I may revisit it eventually. It's probably worth getting it with the expansions though, since they restored some of the features that had been stripped out in 3.

Did a little research on google :D. I found that running it in compatibility mode for Windows 7 solved all my problems since the GOG installer is set up for Windows 7 anyway.

You are running Windows 8 as well? Dang, what gives? I changed my compatibility mode to Windows 7 and I still get the same "Alt-Tab" effect. I even posted on GoG's website and no one knows. How frustrating.

Yeah, windows 8. That's odd I can't find much about that either. Sorry. Maybe it's some display issues. Try running in different colors and check run in 640 x 480 under compatibility.
