Make sure you use SOAPY WATER with minimal bubbles to apply these screen protectors!

What I did was get a plate and put soap water it in and dipped the screen protector in. Then lifted it over the plate to let the excess run off and then placed it on the device and carefully slide it around to match up camera holes/sides. If you mess up simply re-dip it in the plate and try again.

Once everything is matched you and you're ok with the positioning, start squeegee-ing from the middle outwards. Most of the bubbles and whatever is trapped under will go away in a day or so.

Also when squeegee-ing the water out from under the protector, try not to press to hard as it will leave marks and the protector isn't very healing compared to other brands

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the great informative post. I have heard of the soapy water technique and several videos on it and a great method to get screen protectors applied

$4.60 for Nexus 4 and Transformer Infinity screen protectors.

Thanks!

geniv 02-11-2013 11:17 PM

I purchase from them before and just like everyone said.
the quality/material of the screen protector is sucky and they messed up my order also.
but at least they are quick to respond to any issues.

the actual material is kinda "soft" and "mushy" and kinda distort the image alittle. not hard and firm like all the other screen protector you see. I wouldn't put these on a phone with a nice display it kinda ruin the clarity alittle. and on top of that the material is not "smooth" . and the worst part is it scratches easily as it is not hard.

I would not pay full price for it. but the price is about right at 70% off. you are not getting a super deal just "u get what u pay for"

BTW: you dont really need soap and water to apply if you are careful (at lease for phone size screens) but it is still more pita to apply these screen protector material than most other common firmer material.

problem with these material is once air bubble is in. you really can't use a credit card to push it out like other protectors because this is kinda mushy material.

it takes about a week for the screen protector to "settle" in as oppose to about a day of other ones.

IMHO I won't put this on my phone as it is not as clear and provide less protection as others.

Only saving grace is the price...

I'm sorry, I do not agree with you at all. I love my screen protector from xtremeguard. I find that it takes a little experience to put on the screen protector perfectly though. The one that I have on my phone is not perfect since it was the first one I put on...but the one I put on my father's phone turned out perfect.

I used the soapy water method suggested by the company site both times but was meticulous the second time around. You have to make sure you wipe down the screen completely or you might get some dust particles on it. you might even have your best friend with you to wipe it down before you put on the soapy water soaked screen protector. just my suggestion, since I have a dust particle stuck in mine forever...or until I want to take it off.

It's all the same 3M developed product. It was originally created for the military, for Apache helicopter rotors so they wouldn't get nicked. Invisible Shield was the first mover.

I literally have installed HUNDREDS of these wet install screen protectors. Other brands I've tried include Skinomi, Best Skins Ever and now Xtremeguard. I do like Invisible Shield's HD line, those are what are on MY gadgets (iPad and EVO LTE). But those are expensive, and frankly most people lack the skill or patience to do a proper wet install, and screw them up. That's a lot of wasted money. I like to fix and resell electronics, and an installed screen protector adds A LOT to the value of the item. It also hides screen scratches! Well I'm not paying for Invisible Shields, but Xtremeguard is an awesome price point so that for $1.50--$2.50, sometimes up to $5.00 I have one shipped, way less than even the other IS knockoffs.

Installed properly, I don't see a lot of difference between Xtremeguard and the other brands.

I have a "professional" squeegee" (that makes a huge difference), and a spritz bottle I got from Skinomi. I fill this with soap and water. Just using what comes in the Xtremeguard pack is DOABLE but would be more difficult. Even just buy a spare spritz bottle and squegee kit off eBay that come from Invisible Shield, if you don't have one that you saved. Like this, and I re-use the bottle. I prefer a fine mist: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Zagg-Invi...3a6a868097 The squeegee is OK but there are harder ones out there which are better; Zagg doesn't sell them though. You can buy "turbo squeegees" on eBay for under $10 (made for car vinyl/tint installs) if you're going to be doing a lot of these and want better tools.

My big problem with Xtremeguard is their mistakes. I get packages with the wrong screen protector and missing screen protectors. They are nice about it and fix it, but geez... the rate is atrocious. For the savings I will continue to put up with the inconvenience, however.

Oh, and as far as tips go from a "pro" .... I do my applications in the bathroom after a shower. That way there is enough humidity to draw the dust out of the air. There is always so damn much of it and you just don't realize until you go to apply one of these! Keep your fingers WET, and spray the hell out of the screen protector. If it doesn't slide around once applied, it's not wet enough. Of course no water near the speakers, especially. Nice, light strokes to tease out the air bubbles, then harder ones to finish off. 90% of the work is done in getting the shield set down properly lined up the first time with no dust under it. If it's set well, your job is easy.

I must admit I don't wait 24 hours. I barely wait 24 minutes. But I also don't use a case for several days after. I do use a hair dryer, set on LOW.

Be patient. You may think you botched it but as long as it's aligned well and the major air bubbles are pushed out, the haziness and minor bubbles WILL magically dissipate over the next 24 hours. That's the beauty of 3M's engineering. They have truly developed a product with brilliant properties that are suited so well to application to and protection of consumer devices.

Got 2 fully body protectors. One for Note II and one SGSIII for $4.60. This is actually a great product. Been using this brand since SGS 1. My method: Remove battery first. I run the shower on hot in my small bedroom bathroom for about 5 to 10 minutes with the door shut. The steam gets the dust out of the air. Then I use glass cleaner to apply (dries faster). It will still take a little while for it to stop looking foggy but I feel the glass cleaner reduces drying time. You can't even tell it's on until you look at the edges. These tend to last a long time if applied correctly and when it comes time to sell you just peel it off and it looks like new!

lala3369 02-12-2013 01:04 AM

well for 5.50 for a case and screen protector-its woth the risk-and everything Ihave read about their customer service says it is great!! Thanks for the deal

By glass cleaner I hope you mean LCD cleaner. Never use glass cleaner on these products, it contains ammonia. :) But ditto, that's my trick too with the shower. Just wanted to clarify in case any n00bs get the wrong idea. I DO know someone who Windexed her TV, wrecked it. :shake:

I usually dilute a little bit of rubbing alcohol mixed with some water and clean the LCD but I hope that doesn't wreck my LCD :/

i vouch for xtremeguard. stand up guys with great customer service! protectors are easy to install as I have installed vinyl skins/screen protectors for years.

Isopropyl alcohol should be ok as long as its very dilute.

I clarified. You can use rubbing alcohol as long as it's very dilute, if that's how you are using it. I re-read what you wrote and that seems to be what you are doing; sorry initially I pictured you wiping it down with the stuff, it's late lol sorry - in that scenario yes it would be damaging. Rubbing alcohol is a great cleaner and I too use it on my expensive gadgets, very dilute, with a Q-tip. I'm a cheap SDer so of course I love that it costs under a dollar for a big bottle.

The key on the full bodies is to baby-sit the rounded corners. I don't know how rounded the corners are on the NEW iPod as I've only drooled over my friend's, but as the screen protector dries, I find over the next day that I have to keep pressing down on the edges. They will stick if done right though. My 3rd Gen had a full body I applied in 2010, and when I sold it 2 months ago (sniff) she looked as new as they day I bought her because of the full body. The corners DID have some lint they picked up and peeled a bit, and it was harder to find a case that worked (go with a soft case, a hard one could get stuck lol, it happened!), but it was well worth the expense of the Zagg, as the pretty, shiny metal back scratches if you even LOOK at it the wrong way. I buy used iPods to fix up and re-purpose and a lot of them are just ugly they are scuffed up so much.

raffstyle 02-12-2013 01:55 AM

I got this on my LG L9 2 weeks ago, I got 5 screen protector for $7.50 shipped.

I bought 1 for At&t GSII, 2 for Lumia 920 and 2 for my LG l9 (1 extra). I installed it with the water and soap and went very smoothly. both Nokia lumia 920 installation are easy looks really great after and same with GSII. my LG L9 is great too but a very tiny dust on the side edge, i didnt notice it when it was wet..so small and i can deal with it so i didnt redo it.

I used a blower to dry it fast, i guess it works my sister and aunt Lumia 920 is up and running in less than an hour.

Im very satisfied with xtremeguard, its cheap and it works!

I actually use glass cleaner for most capacitive screen phones and tablets. As long as it's actual glass, it's safe. I should have made that clear. These high end phones (ie: Galaxy S series and iPhone's) use actual glass capacitive digitizers which are on top of the LCD. You don't make actual contact with the LCD itself. Been doing it in my shop for years now for cleaning them. It is definitely not recommended for direct LCD contact or most TV's and laptops and some plastics and paint finishes. For noobs I recommend sticking to soap/shampoo method...:)

Hey all. Can anyone comment about use on a new 7th gen Nano? I'm a bit hesitant to use methods here other than a steamy room prior to application. Thanks.

HirenS85 02-12-2013 05:02 AM

I got their iphone 4s screen protector during the last promo and it's complete garbage. Not worth the $1.5 I ended up paying.

slayerizm 02-12-2013 05:30 AM

Anyone know how these compare to skinomi for the Nexus 7? I got the skinomi one but wasn't sure if I should order these also in case they're better.

shackle101 02-12-2013 05:34 AM

Hows the glare out in the sun light with these protectors? I noticed they don't say anything about anti glare.

avaire 02-12-2013 06:02 AM

I did use the full-body protectors for my 2 Nexus 4s, and admit it was my first time using their products. The price, and the reviews where people were swearing on it made me go for Xtremeguard. I followed the installation instructions from their web-site to the "T", but overall I am not too pleased with the finished look. Maybe it's me - not doing it right.

Some of the tips in this thread from game4life and Mariss716 seem really helpful - thanks guys!

One quick tip for the novice users would be to NOT use the squeege that they provide. Instead use some flexible card (non-paper / non-cardboard). If you use a cardboard card, it will get mushy after some use, and may leave some residue.

About the back protector - I had to re-apply when the first time didn't look good. When I pulled it off, I saw some black stuff stuck to it. Question to those who have used it - is it peeling off the paint from my phone? And after re-applying, it did not give a smooth look. Hence my initial comment about the finish.

m3nphls 02-12-2013 06:11 AM

I wouldn't trust in any liquid solution or soapy water method to apply these screen guards as they will can get into your phone and mess it up. As I have seen tons of customers coming to my store.

shizlefonizle 02-12-2013 08:06 AM

Thanks got for the Nexus 4. Dont know why many people are complaining, all of the wet installation ones from every brand are pretty much the same. The difference in "quality" is totally dependent on how the user applies it.

$9.20 shipped for a Motorola full body and Tablet full body. Amazing.Soo glad you posted. Thanks much!

bihari 02-12-2013 09:38 AM

Just a heads up. The quality of these screen protectors is not good. I've used it on my 4S and iPad3 and twice it came off in a matter of few weeks. Customer service is good though, but the product itself is not good. I prefer the best skins ever skins. They're much better in quality and hold for much longer. My 2 cents.

liquid_celica 02-12-2013 10:04 AM

A little warning to my fellow Nexus 4 Owners:

This thing WILL bubble/peel while using a bumper. Xtremeguard makes these things all the way to the edge. This proves problematic for the bumpers because they're pushing there.

Scissors have always helped me to solve that problem. I have a screen protector on my gs3 that was a little bit to tall and wouldn't lay flat due to the curves. A little snip snip later and it works perfectly.

I never got my order when they had 80% off. They sent out a replacement order which I never got either. Then they gave me a refund since I never got it. I'll order once more to see if it actually arrives this time.

talleddy 02-12-2013 01:52 PM

I've ordered from this company many times and for this price it can't be beat. I have had a couple that are miscut, where there was an obvious miscut like it had been stamped twice or something. Overall, I am very satisfied with their screen protectors just follow peoples instructions on here for a wet install or youtube a search for a skinomi sheild install they are pretty similar. I think they are almost as good as Zagg and they do a lot of great deals like this.

penguillama 02-12-2013 04:15 PM

you get what you pay for. not bad, but it's tinted blue and it's dents easily (leads to some pretty bad orange peel effect). the cutouts on my DNA weren't particularly intelligent (u-shaped cutouts instead of holes), and as a result it kept peeling off around the corners. the material is also a lot thicker than any other wet-apply protector I've used.

these Xtremeguard 70-80% off deals keep making front page literally every few weeks, does SD partner with them? in the last thread or two, there were some users who bashed everyone whose reviews weren't particularly positive. some guy must have posted like 30 times saying nobody knew how to properly apply it...

Geronemo3 02-12-2013 06:44 PM

got 2 for my GNex, 1 full body and 1 for screen only.

ralfjai 02-14-2013 04:23 PM

great deal, in for gs3 and nexus 4 set

dumon 02-16-2013 01:26 PM

Ordered two for different phones, but got just one. No response from them yet.

apyo 02-17-2013 12:28 AM

Received and applied ok.

Feels kind of sticking to your finger when sliding across the screen. And scratches easily. Not a good product to put on a screen. Its good for the back glass, it gives some grip. But the grip that is not good for the front.

FAL 02-18-2013 02:51 PM

For the price, these are worth a try for phone size devices. Its another story for 7 -10 inch tablet since it more of pain and higher rate failure to apply. It help to have better tools for the bigger applications.

There are glass and rhino glass (on amazon) for those looking for more impact protection with prices starting a $15. It seem there aren't many deal on the glass protector.

numbay 02-18-2013 09:42 PM

Got a pair for iPad 4th generation. Arrived fast, but it is not does not fit iPad 4. Home and camera button does not align and back is really for 3rd gen iPad--has log cutout, not for lightening charge port. Lets see if they correct the problem.
