Fixed, didn't attach one, SD just scraped the link and pulled the pic for the current combo deal

This looks like a strong deal! Wireless + Ethernet, DUPLEX, smartphone print, and scanner for $100! Thanks, I'm in for one to replace my 7 year old Samsung with a permanently jammed paper tray.

VorlonFrog 02-12-2013 04:11 AM

If this is anything like the earlier HL-2270W, it's going to be a GREAT printer.

ReverseHandedJO 02-12-2013 04:19 AM

hum, i got this last year around this time for $70

This is an alright deal, but its 121 on amazon, Free shipping with PRIME.

No document feeder. I guess for 100 bucks, you can't have everything.

Y'mean amazon's +20% price is better? (head scratch)
This price is intriguing, given Brother's recent history of pretty swell printers.

Back in the days of the $25 off Staples coupons, there were times it was on sale and also they had a printer trade-in deal going. I think I scored mine for about that price.

We've been extremely happy with it up until a couple weeks ago, when it stopped printing wirelessly. I just says offline until you hook it up via USB, at which point it prints out everything in the queue. I've tried all sorts of fixes but can't get it working right anymore.

This model only has Wireless B/G, so it's basically only WiFi. Android probably supports this, but not Apple. Amazon says mobile device is only "Cortado Workplace"

You got to have an AirPrint printer for that. Good deal, but not for smartphones across the board.

I tried the FAQ on their website but that got me nowhere. I also did a firmware update, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, etc. I just can't get it to work.

I've been pretty busy so I haven't called yet. Walking the laptop down to the basement works as a temporary solution since we don't print a lot, but I'll have to get around to calling soon.

You said uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, have you tried just removing the printer and re-adding it? Had this issue with a Canon printer and that worked well.

We have a 2270 that just had this happen to it as well. Only prints the queue when connected directly to the router.

Overall, though, it's an excellent printer.

borrillo 02-12-2013 05:39 AM

Got this printer a few months back from Staples I think for $89. Easily worth $25 more. I love it. Prints so fast and got the kids out of my office using my printer for their homework. My inkjet was having its cartridges replaced every other month. This printer takes a huge toner cartridge. I won't expect to replace it for a long time and replacments are cheap compared to Inkjet. My dual inkjet cartridges would run about $50 for both and barely last. One of these giant suckers costs the same and prints like 4000 pages. Perfect for homework or anything B&W. Still trying to figure out how to enable duplex printer though... Good deal, better printer!

i remember seeing a couple of those deals last year.

i ran into a problem with the wireless too. if the printer is offline long enough and another device takes that IP then the next time you go to use the printer it will say offline. the first time it did this i fixed it by reinstalling the software. the second time it did it i just used a very long USB extension cable and ran it around to the other side of the room. ideally if you want to use it wirelessly you should use an assigned IP so that no other device tries to take that IP from the printer.

I tried to remove printer and re-install, but that didn't work either.

I assigned it a static IP soon after I got it so I doubt that is the issue. Running the wireless report on the printer says that everything is working fine. The whole thing has me stumped.

ReverseHandedJO 02-12-2013 05:48 AM

something else i just remembered, you cant have symbols in your wireless password to set the printer up wirelessly.

was the printer itself showing the IP on the LCD readout?

Buckeyefan 1 02-12-2013 06:00 AM

Using this printer. Also have the 2140 which is now in the kids room. This printer if finicky. The tape trick doesn't work, but you can get the reset flag gear on Amazon for $4 that will get you another few months out of the starter cartridge. After that, toner is $14 - $18 if you can find it on sale at Amazon, Meritline, and Supermediastore. E bay always has a 2 for $28 deal for the TN450. Set up a deal alert for TN450 on SD. Sometimes Supermedia store will have them for $9.99. I've also had to reinstall the software numerous times due to glitches. It's easiest to install the software from Brother's website on each pc/laptop. It always seems to work doing it that way. The scanner works great, and print quality is fine. Haven't used the duplex yet. It will suck out some serious power from your fuse box, so make sure your flat screen tv isn't on the same breaker. Otherwise, use a UPS or power conditioner. The cheap power supplies they put in flat screens today aren't made as well as they used to be (Samsung).

Looks like a good AIO, but there is no fax. I guess for $100 you can't get everything. Ideally I would like to replace the Epson 610 AIO Inkjet and HP 1012 with just one machine...

Ideal replacemtn would be a AIO Color Laser with Fax...

The Brother 575 Fax usually goes on sale during the holidays for $9.99. Works great as an outgoing fax. But I agree, too bad the 2280 doesn't have that features. For as little as people use faxes, the 575 works well for us, and we get no spam faxes as we don't load the machine with paper.

This is a great printer. I still can't believe that I got this + 2 8GB SDHC cards from Staples for $86 shipped in Dec 2011 :D

$100 is a bit steep, but it hasn't been on sale lately. Used to be that you could usually snag it for $80 when it went on sale at Staples.

burticus 02-12-2013 07:39 AM

Saw this. I am more interested in a deal on the 2270, I want a smaller unit (don't need the scan/copy).

But if you need that, this is a good price. Looks like the toner carts are pretty cheap too.

Generic toners can be had for around $16 if you set up deal alerts for them. They work quite well (used 2 so far).

The IP address was back in auto-assign mode. After I re-installed everything it makes sense that it went back to default.

I set it back to a fixed IP and still haven't had any luck. I tried pinging the static IP address, which used to get me to the Brother set-up page, but it just gives me the standard "Cannot find the webpage".

I tried to add a printer using the static IP address, but that didn't work either.

it's been a while since I did it so I have quite forgotten the exact steps. It took me a while to find it online but if you have the time, try to search in brother support website for discussion about the ad hoc mode or to connect brother wirelessly without cd.

Dunno if that is an issue with the printer or your setup. It works great with my wife's Macbook Pro and has always printed wirelessly. Brother thankfully has good OSX support unlike my last Canon printer which required 3rd party Gutenprint drivers to work.

Yeah, I missed on that one.

I tend to keep mine for years and years, until the cost of repair is greater than the cost of new. HP1012 has been problem free. It replaced HP 5L which developed a drum issue, and it was cheaper to buy HP 1012 than repair the drum.

We stopped using Epson once the ink dried up, and just use it for scanning and faxing.

Yup, lots of places only do fax. One of the reasons we have a land line at home. I guess I could fax just from work, but sometimes it is just nice to have a fax at home.

jigwashere 02-12-2013 08:29 AM

I recently picked up a refurbished Brother 7860DW from Staples ($95 with tax after rebate) and love it. Comparing this deal with the 7860DW [findthebest.com], they look pretty similar except for faxing and document feeder. Anyway, Brother seems to make nice printers. I'm very happy with mine.

Wow -- are you my doppelganger? My Epson Workforce 610 died recently (I'm guessing some bad ink carts caused it), so I picked up a wireless Cannon printer. My HP1012 still works great, but even though I share it from my desktop PC, my wife has trouble printing to it from her Mac. I didn't want her continually printing on the inkjet, so picked up the wireless Brother laser printer. It's awesome and I couldn't be happier.

I did read your post indicating that you've been a little too busy to call Brother.
On the other hand, I've seen you try lots of different things and respond to several suggestions.
In that time, you might have called Brother and they might have had a solution for you.

AaronDotNET 02-12-2013 08:52 AM

This is the same price that I paid a while back. I think its a good deal because I haven't seen it this cheap in a while. The printer has performed great. My wife prints off a lot of coupons and she loves that she can do it wirelessly from her laptop. Setting up wireless is very easy with the given CD. She also uses the duplex feature to save on paper. The scanner works fine, but we don't use it a whole lot. As for ink, you will find a multitude of 3rd party generic options that make this printer incredibly cheap in the long run. Oh and compared to my old inkjets, this printer is FAST! In my opinion, get this if you need a good reliable printer, with cheap ink/tonner, and you don't mind the lack of color. Wireless, duplex, and scanning are nice extras on top of all that.

Nope, its black and white only. I actually see that as a positive since I don't have to mess around with multiple cartridges. We keep our old inkjet around just in case we need to print something in color. But that hasn't happened yet and its still gathering dust as we speak.

I may have to call customer service, my girlfriend has a 2009 Mac Book Pro upgraded to Mountain Lion with the latest drivers installed from the Brothers website. It still has issues finding the printer and printing from the printer. But everything Windows based in my house works perfectly fine.

Thanks.

Its Neweggs shell shocker. I believe the price doesn't come into effect until 10AM PST. That should only be in 30 minutes away. Just wait until then to purchase.

Thanks. I assumed it as central time. Sorry for the confusion. Does anyone know how is Newegg's how good is Newegg's return policy? Just in case something goes wrong?

Any return for a refund may be subject to a 15% restocking fee. This fee may be waived for the following reasons: Carrier damage (computer case) Defective item Item does not match what our website...

Also Newegg does not pay for return shipping on defective merchandise.

In general, I would much prefer to buy from Costco/Amazon especially large item such as this. And I believe they are only about $20 more.

One time it cost me $10 to ship a shoebox. Yes anything more than a few $ shipping is large IMO.

In the last 30 minutes, amazon price has dropped about $3. It's at $117 could continue dropping. Decisions decisions. 17 dollars Cheaper or the best customer service ever and no stupid restocking fees. What to do...what to do............

Sorry amazon. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger with newegg. I'll pay with AMEX to try and shield myself from b.s. I guess. I went on a rage last time I missed the $99 refurbished brother printer deal at staples and brother laser printers don't go on sale everyday. This is course means that a few hours after I order this, amazon is gonna have it for $99 because the Murphy Law.

I have the DCP-7065dn which uses the TN-420. I'm about 40% remaining on the starter toner. You're telling me that they ship a full toner set but handicap it to only print a lesser amount (thereby the customer and the company) are wasting toner? This kit will "free up" the toner left inside so I can print more?

I don't intend on refilling the toner cartridge (I'm just going to buy the generic cartridges), but if spending $3.xx can double my effective yield on the current starter pack, that seems worth it. I can let my generic one sit in the box for a little longer.

Are you supposed to use the gear stuff before you reach the warning message on the printer for low toner or afterwards?

Awesome Price. I got a 6-year old MFC-7820N, and still rocks!

This one has wireless + duplexing. For $100 it's a steal.

Ben61694 02-12-2013 10:46 AM

Wasn't the 7860DW two weeks ago for $85 after rebate better? Granted it was a refurb, but it had a fax machine too, trying to figure out if I bought the wrong one.

donnnster 02-12-2013 10:52 AM

Bought this printer during black friday 1.5 years ago. Still running great. I have only replaced the toner once(replaced with a TN450). Not the most compact printer but does the job well. Setting up to the wireless network was a breeze and I have a PC and MAC printing/scanning with no issues.

Only thing I haven't figured out is scanning multiple pages into one document using the brother software. The stock software will create a bunch of one page documents. I have in the past used a pdf binder program to consolidate the multiple pages into one document. If anyone knows how to do this in one step, let us know. Thanks!

I also have a 7 year old MFC-7820N that I bought refurbished for $200 on a deal. This thing is a beast. Back then almost everybody had ink jet printers and I convinced the wife the extra initial cost was worth it and we went for laser. I probably spend about $8 a year on toner on this thing. I Buy refill kits off ebay for about 4 bucks each with free shipping.

But my old and trusty printer has recently begun to show its age. I've got 4 paper jams in the last month whereas in the past 7 years I probably had 1, and the worst part, about a month ago, It also started disappearing from my network. Right now it's printing out of sheer luck because it doesn't even show up on the network anymore. I suspect something it's amiss on its aging network card. So I've had a deal alert on this wireless printer for a while and it finally poped up. As Rick James would say, a 100 bucks it's a hell of a price! :D

cequalspid 02-12-2013 11:07 AM

According to camel's Amazon price tracker, this printer was $50 on Amazon last June 2012. Yes, no such thing as a time machine I know, I only bring this up as a reference.

How much did you pay for it?

Sent from Slickdeals App for iPhone & iPod Touch.

Two BF ago got it for $50 + tax.

I seen em on sale for $75 on Staples using the $25 off coupon.

I like Brother bc you can put generic toner n not a problem.

You have to scan 1 page @ a time but you can scan a few pages by doing "No FInish scanning" and it will keep adding the file. No fax as I dont do landline.

I checked my history on staples.com and it appears that bought it on 11/24/11 for:

199.99
-125.00 coupons(I think it had a 100.00 coupon and I used a 25 off 75)
So it was 81.18 after tax.

Nobody mentioning that if you buy this from Staples.com with a coupon for $20 $25 off and then price match it, you can get this for about $75-80 with free shipping? Maybe since those coupons are hard to come by these days. FYI I price matched at Staples for the Brother mfc-7360n last year and also got a printer recycle deal and got it for about $30.
So, if you want to make this printer cheaper, check to see if you can PM to OD, STaples or OM and try to stack with another coupon/deal/bonus.

Yes.

I don't think the starter toner yields as much as a TN450, but possible a TN420. The flag gear will reset the toner cartridge into fooling the printer that its new. It's definitely worth $4. I was amazed how much longer the starter toner lasted after the warning light went off. You can use the TN450 as well as the TN420 replacement toners. Same thing - higher yield in the TN450.

Use the flag gear after you get the warning message.

Could you (or someone else) clarify this setup a bit? If you have all your devices run on the N network, you can optimize the wireless speed by having the router run in the N-only mode. But then you won't be able to add the printer to the network because its wireless card only supports B/G. If you don't want to degrade your main network, I suspect you can add another B/G/N router as an access point that runs in the B/G/N compatibility mode and plug the printer into this access point via a USB cable (assuming that the router has a built-in USB print server), but this kinda defeats the purpose of a wireless printer. Besides, from what I get, routers (at least, the ASUS models) do not support Brother printers (because of some interface issues). Another option would be to have a second dedicated B/G network (via a separate router), but then every time you need to print something, you need to disconnect from the N network and connect to the B/G network. Am I missing something? How do people have it set up (other than having the router run in the B/G/N compatibility mode)?

What I'm suggesting is that you get an N-capable router that can run one of the DDWRT or something compatible. From there, you plug your printer in (via ethernet or usb) and you set it up to join your existing N network.

The new software/firmware allows all sort of configurations, you'll basically turn it into a remote hub for your existing network.

So the printer will remain plugged to this N-capable router? Then what's the point of paying extra for wireless capability of the printer? Can't you do the same with a cheaper non-wireless printer? And as I mentioned, at least ASUS routers do not support USB-based connection to Brother printers (don't know if other makes do).

And that's exactly what I wanted to do with my ASUS RT-N13U router and Brother HL-1040 printer... before I learned that ASUS does not communicate with Brother (it does support HP, Canon, and Epson, I think). So if you go this route, make sure your router can talk to your printer.

Did you flash the firmware with DDWRT? It's USB2 according to this page and should be supported:
http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/...ed_Devices

Once you've got the new OS on it, it should be able to communicate with the Brother no problem.

You could also get a wireless N print server. Or even better, this printer has an eithernet port, just connect to via eithernet and then the rest of your network remains in N-mode.

Hrm; I'm getting old, I just did the math and it's 6 1/2

The new legacy GT is AWD/M/T and Turbo . . . suspension is not as good as the 6 though.

So upset... needed this for my brothers' new business. They need a printer and I was too busy @ work yesterday to yank it for them.

Congrats to those that got in on it! =/

Did you flash the firmware with DDWRT? It's USB2 according to this page and should be supported:

Once you've got the new OS on it, it should be able to communicate with the Brother no problem.

Thanks for the tip. I'll do more research on this.

Couldn't find a decent wireless-N printer server with good ratings. :-( The Ethernet port is actually a major plus for this model.

I found your post very helpful. I purchased the 2280dw model andI want to purchase the reset kit too. Can you please tell me when will I need to do this? Can it be done even before starting to print with the starter cartridge or after I get the message to replace the toner?
One more thing, can you please PM me a link to video on YouTube which shows how to fdo it? TIA.
