Maybe for you but where I live I get better reception with Sprint than I did with AT&T or T-Mobile.

Sitting at my desk at work I would be between 1-2 bars on AT&T and had to go outside to get any reception on T-Mobile.

Been with Sprint for 2-1/2 years and right now at my desk I have 4 out of 5 bars on 3g and full bars on 4g. From what I've seen on google+ Sprint's LTE is pretty fast around here as well.

I might have to jump on this phone Friday.

I got this as an upgrade in December for 99$

aloharacing 02-12-2013 01:08 PM

Yeah tell me about it. I switched back to AT&T because I haven't had then in awhile and they were even much better...lol. 4G everywhere I am at instead of that slow 3G. :omg:

Different story for me. I am cell phone only and ATT barely worked from my house. Just switched to Sprint. Got a Note 2 and and Galaxy 3 for $139 total and now I can have a phone conversation without going on the front porch.

Edit: I just checked and Amazon/Sprint has the Note 2, back at $99, so I called and got $40 back.

Lol really? then 3 months after you get the note 3 the note 4 will come up and you will have wished you waited. Note 3 isn't even scheduled to be out until late summer or end of the year from what I hear. Technology pisses me off. You shouldn't release a new upgraded phone of the SAME MODEL just a few months after you released another, its just stupid. These companies really need to start concentrating on performance, not more processor, more memory.

It depends where you live. Sprint sucks in some places but not others.

Why do these threads turn into "Too bad X's service sucks." threads? Jesus, its a decent deal on the phone compared to the price its been for a while, so if its a good deal, say so, and if you don't like Sprint's service, go tell someone who cares in some other thread that maybe asks about their service.

just called them, cant do it online, i will have to go to the store to get the price match difference refunded.
has to be a return/re-purchase sort of thing.

On top of sprints etf, if you make certain changes to your account like moving the phone to another line within 181 days , Amazon may charge you an additional $400 etf on top of the sprint etf.

Many people have been able to buy at best buy pming amazon, to avoid the secondary etf.

If you're satisfied with the service, but are on the fence about the phone itself I would HIGHLY recommend this phone. I got it the day it came out and have never been more pleased with a phone. The performance and screen real estate is obviously top of the line. The battery longevity is pretty much the best in the world in terms of stock devices. (I disconect the charge cable around 730am and do not plug it in until midnight or after and it RARELY even gives me the low battery warning, even with heavy use, gps, pandora, maps, internet, games, netflix, etc. during the day without charging)

The only qualm I have is inconsistent 4G in my area, but otherwise I am completely satisfied and as a tech savvy, geek type I highly highly recommend this phone and suggest it to my friends and anyone I come across even if they're on other carriers.

inventix1136 02-12-2013 01:54 PM

Love the Note 2. Bought an unlocked version last month and could not be happier -- just make sure that you have large hands :-).

iamandrewz 02-12-2013 02:32 PM

I dont have "bad" service, but if I lived a city away from me, I would have close to the best. I live in Sacramento and I never had dropped calls and 3G everywhere I go. Thats the bad part, 3-F%%KING-G. If i was more towards the bay area, I'd have 4G.

Anyways, I get a nice discount with Sprint so I'm sticking with it.

About the deal... I might make my way into BB and getta PM later today.

Thanks for posting.

great price.. paid $300 for mine in jan from sprint.. UGHHHH

robrob777 02-12-2013 02:55 PM

I just want to mention that CDMA technology should be obsolete.
GSM ftw

This is why Verizon or Sprint phones are so cheap, compared to the unlocked GSM versions

waynebike 02-12-2013 02:56 PM

good phone and good deal, just getting tired of sprint. I'm in the Chicago suburbs and i drop calls every single day on my way home. I know exactly when I'm going to drop the call too, there are 3 specific spots on my way home very day that I've reported to Sprint multiple times but they've never done anything about it.

Just going to wait for my contract to be up and switch to AT&T as my wife never has any issues with her service where we are at.

I will say sprint's coverage has gotten better lately but there are still plenty of times where everybody around me has signal with other carriers and I've got nothing.

Ah that makes sense.
I am using the galaxy note 2 (just got it yesterday) and I have to say that it is a great device. I can barely hold it with large hands but it is very nice. If they increase the size to a 6.3" like the rumors say I won't be getting a newer one because that is just not managable. 5.5" seems right on the edge so to imagine it any bigger is just insane.

rumor has device size remaining close to the same. Reduction of bezel size is where the increased screen would come.

Sprint's 4G or LTE is a joke... I am suffering with SERO plan, will definitely jump off Sprint once my contracts are done

Pigeon 02-12-2013 04:24 PM

True that on sprints service sucking - I don't care where you live, there has to be a better option.
I have been using roam only for 2 months and they still haven't cancelled me - I think its time to step it up a notch.
I've been thinking of getting a couple of note 2's for me and my wife and make roaming calls from me to my wife every nite all nite.
Then use the note 2's on page plus after sprint drops me.

Californiaman 02-12-2013 04:53 PM

Best Buy has a $50 Gift Card deal if you buy a note2, anyone PM amazon and get the $50 Card? at Best Buy

inspron 02-12-2013 05:07 PM

If reception is an issue for you consider getting a T-mobile Note 2. It has "Wifi-calling" capability.

Basically you can use your home/office wifi as your method of connection. You can make crystal clear calls (better than cell), texts and browse where reception is an issue but you have access to wifi. "Potentially" if your plan allow it, you can even get unlimited calls via wifi calling if your plan support this feature.

shadowhawk2020 02-12-2013 05:21 PM

Or you could get a free airave with sprint and have perfect service at your house.

HomerJay 02-12-2013 05:36 PM

You should be able to do this regardless of whether your phone has Wifi-calling. Try GrooVe IP. I use it when I'm at my house. It uses Google voice, and works very well.

Very YMMV. One Best Buy mobile would not PM. My 2nd location did. I went in trying to get them to PM Dell - $129.99 + $50 gc, but they instead said they would PM Amazon at $149.99 and gave me a free case and screen protector. Not bad I guess. The difference in price was worth me taking the phone home right away.
Those are new prices for VZN btw, and my phone was an upgrade. They were PM'ing the new contract prices. How nice of them.

I wasn't aware of the $50 gc offer. I may go in tomorrow and with my receipt and see if they'll honor this.

Sprint is terrible in Sacramento. My brother was a manager for one of the busiest Sprint stores in Sacramento and quit (for a Verizon call center job) because so many people were returning their phones because of poor data speeds.
4G isn't everywhere, it's still slow when you have 4G, & it kills battery life (compared to faster HSPA+). 3G in Sac is dial-up speed. Sprint does plan to have LTE mid-2013.

I left Sprint for T-Mobile's $30 Monthly 4G (100mins, unlimited text/data) & get around 6-10mbps throughout Sac and the SF Bay Area.

I did the price match yesterday from this price...asked the rep if they price match amazon wireless...she asked the manager and was told yes...I then asked if I can apply the $50 best buy gift card deal on the phone...she had to ask the manager again and was told yes...I also had a $50 best buy gift card myself and applied it to the phone. She had to charge me a $30 activation fee...I walked out the best buy store with my new note 2 for roughly $90 after everything=one happy owner of a new phone. (math didn't work out...but I am not complaining) :-)

DITTO!! I'm in North Jersy and it blows@!!! No 4G service anywhere I go. Stuck in contract for one more year. Next Christmas its off to Verizon. Can't beat there service, but you pay for it.

Tried AT&T and that pretty much stunk w/ dropped calls and poor reception as well. Switched all house services to Verizon FIOS couple years back and never had an issue since. Can't beat Verizon quality. They have all my telecom business soon enough. I should buy their stock... I sound like a commercial. Do you hear hear me?? ;)

went to best buy this morning. had to do a return/rebuy to price match amazons $169 and use the $50 off best buy gift card for phone purchases. Was unable to use the reward zone points that i used previously, that will get refunded back to my reward zone account (sucks),.. and this is the best bit.. apparently, i will get charged another $36 activation fee from Sprint (really sucks!). Apparently sprint only waives the activation fee for 3 days after the date of purchase. (??)

I will fight it as i did not get a new phone, its still the same phone, i should not be getting another activation fee.

anybody else had to deal with this?

yeah, i had to recently, just call up sprint, and say your just going to return the upgrade and witch carriers or something, getting the fee refunded is rather easy for me (then again, i do have a line thats the contract has been up for a while now...)

either way, just call and try and complain, Sprint is good at keeping their costumers, let alone keeping them happy

90 and cumberland - Without fail.

I left sprint and took my 5 lines to ATT back in the iphone 3GS days. It was horrible. All five phones were dropping 80% of calls. It didn't matter what city, indoor or outdoor, etc. On day 28, I went back to sprint. I see sprint 3G data on my current iphone 4S is blah (1Mbps max down) but it's do-able for my on the road needs for now. Other phones on my line are iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3's and they don't have issues anywhere they go usually (Palatine, UIC campus, Schaumburg, etc) so I'm going to stick with Sprint for the UNL data if nothing else but the service isn't all that bad for me. ATT is comparable pricing to sprint but verizon is quite a bit more expensive when I compare my current plan to their comparable plan.

Anyone tried this yet?

Tried locally and online. Got declined.

Sprint rewarded my purchase today by turning 4g on in the tower closest to my house. Been averaging 13 down and 6 up inside.

You can upgrade with SERO, but not at $30. You need to pay $50/month (additional $10 for android phone and $10 data fee).

No go with sero for me. I have the $50 plan.

Thank the Lord i was able to price match with Best buy mobile. And i used the 50 buck promo gift card...Wife is happy and Happy V-Day to her..

Deal is dead, which sucks. From the time I left home, til the time I got to the store the price went from $169.99 to $249.99. Since I already paid the $50 early upgrade fee, I went ahead and got it and hope that it may drop a little bit before the 30 day prime match period ends.

After reading some posts, I walked into my best buy. Dude didn't even ask a manager for pricematch. Manager came at the end of process and adjusted price.

$169.99
- $50 GC from S3 bought last week with $100 deal
- $50 GC from current purchase applied to same purchase
- $5 leftover on my old GC
- $25 Reward zone points
+ Taxes

Walked out paying $58. Vday gift for the wife as well...so it made her night!

I live in Grapevine and work in Coppell. Maybe they upgraded our tower recently or maybe the Cyanogen rom has better radio than the stock rom?

I've never had a drop call but then again I don't really make a lot of phone calls.

I was with Voicestream until they were bought out by T-Mobile and had spotty service inside. After 10 years, we got into a "fight" over how much they wanted to charge me for a Blackberry so I jumped to AT&T.

AT&T was the worse. MMS would take forever to send/receive, text wouldn't come through at all, dropped calls, etc. I chalked it up on the iphone just coming out and their network not being up to par.

Either way, once that contract was up I jumped to Sprint because I didn't like Android phones on T-Mobile and haven't been happier.

I can't comment on Verizon because I would string together two cans and learn smoke signals before I give them another penny.

I prefer HTC over Samsung, but they don't have anything like the Note 2. I know they have the DNA on Verizon but the storage specs on that are very lacking and it's on Verizon, a company I can't stand.

I was more waiting for the price to drop. Paying $300 + 2 year contract isn't my thing. I'm pretty sure I'm going to order it tomorrow. The good thing is I'm out of contract and outside of the battery life on my 2 1/2 year old Evo, I don't really HAVE to upgrade. My Evo is rooted and still does things most of my friends new iphones don't do.

I am impressed with the size and S pen on the Note. I will just have to root it because I don't care for their Touchwiz and (hate to say it) iphone like feel. I prefer all my apps to be on one page where I scroll up and down over the side to side iphone style.

I went from the Touch Pro 2, the Hero (second hand), OG Evo (Great phone battery life terrible), Evo 3d (Gimmicky and terrible battery life slow updates), EVO4GLTE (better battery, horrible multitasking, non removable battery) to the Note 2. I am disappointed it took me this long to switch to Samsung. HTC has gone down in quality over the last few years qhile Samsung has improved.

I am not a huge fan of Touch Wiz, Just like I am not a fan of Sense. I bought Apex launcher pro so I don't have to deal with much of either.

The DNA is a nice phone, but with the screen and smaller battery it ends up being a problem, so despite higher resolution you get about half as long battery life as the Note 2. At the time the Note 2 had the best specs hands down, the DNA's resolution wins obviously but with the N2, battery life has been one of those unexpected bright spots. I can go ALL day without charging it, and I am not a light user. The lack of storage can also be a deal killer, but depending on your usage it also might not be.

The price WILL drop eventually, but that depends on your threshold for waiting, because as they say, there's ALWAYS something better 3-6 months away. The S4 and Note 3 will probably both hit in 2013. (obviously the S4 sooner). If you can get it for under $199 its a deal. I paid the original $299 and I am completely satifisifed. I've seen it as low as 129 for Verizon on Amazon/Dell.

I don't mind Touchwiz, after rooting and custom ROMing for a long time, nowadays I just leave everything stock unless a particular item really bothers me. If I was really into multi view I might root to be able to add Netflix.

I had the Touch Pro 2, and while it was pretty good build quality, WinMo 6.x killed it. The stylus was so so, I've actually still got it, and it FEELS sold, but I am not sold on FEEL over DURABILITY as you see with the glass iphones compared to the plastic galaxy series. The plastic FEELS cheap, but lasts a LOT longer and will survive drops a lot better.

TouchWiz is the best skin in my experience, after ROMING/ROOTING for years and all of the little quirks I keep most of my devices stock unless I run across something I really can't stand.

You might be able to get this through Amazon then drop sprint. I did it... I got 3 new Galaxy S3 assuming I was renewing my contract. But sprint tried to RAPE me with this plan. Unlimited family $169+30+30+30 for each "Smart Phone" . I called because I was paying $90 extra for 3G. I asked the magic question. What do I need to do to get out of this contract. Sprint rep.. Sir you arent on contract. I ask but I got new phones from Amazon. Sprint: It isnt our fault that Amazon hasnt submitted the new paper work. This was after 3 months. So.... Hmmm might be a good way to make some $$ but of course this is a definate YMMV

Thanks for the info. I was kind of hoping the DNA would have better storage/battery but you are correct, besides the screen resolution it's just average. Combine it with being Verizon only and I'm totally out.

I tend not to chase technology too much so I'm fine waiting another couple of weeks or so before grabbing the Note 2. I might look up some rumor sites and see what they are saying about Note 3.

As far as Touchwiz, I feel the same way about HTC's Sense. To me it becomes more of a pain than enjoyment. I guess I'm one of those that prefer the stock android rom over the individual phone makers enhancements.

HTC sense was awful on my inspire. Vowed to never go with an HTC after that experience. Nothing but crashes and FC errors and lag

man nothing spells nerd more than having a phone the size of a costco pizza on your face....I wonder if they are able to sell any of these to women?

onelord 02-15-2013 10:40 AM

I have not seen many men with this phone. Ive seen a lot of woman. That will now include my wife:)

calimom 03-07-2013 11:55 AM

I don't know what we're going to do for renewal at this point. I got off of chat this morning with Sprint and the first rep tried to tell me that I needed to be careful buying a phone from Amazon because they are not an authorized dealer or seller and that Sprint might not activate a phone purchased from Amazon because it might not have a Sprint logo on it. I pushed the rep and said really, Amazon is not an authorized seller/dealer and the phones might not be Sprint? The rep insisted Amazon is not an authorized seller. Sometimes talking to Sprint is more frustrating than it's worth.

I have been wanting the Galaxy Note 2, but maybe I will keep looking around.
