True enough. Who buys a high end GPU to play F2P games?

These games benefit more from high end GPUs than most retail games being offered. Planetside 2 is one of the most demanding games on the market and I wouldn't be surprised if it pushes a decent amount of videocard sales. Hawken even has PhysX support, great showcase for a top tier Nvidia card (Planetside 2 will probably add PhysX again too, it was disabled shortly before release due to stability issues).

Arguably this is a better deal than most recent videocard promotions, since it's not like F2P cash typically goes on sale (I bet you could even wait to use the Planetside 2 code during one of the 2x or 3x Station Cash days). It's actually pretty clever, since Nvidia gains the attention of the millions of people that already play these games while simultaniously promoting the games themselves to new videocard buyers. A person with $50 worth of currency for a game is probably going to at least try it.

You clearly haven't seen Planetside 2.. or Tribes: Ascend..

While at face value this deal can't compare to free games, this is great if you already play games like PS2. I'm not interested in any of the games AMD is offering, but in the future if I plan on upgrading my 560ti 448-core this will be a semi-incentive for me, since the only game I play is PS2 at the moment.

VreebieZ 02-13-2013 10:15 AM

Hawken (Meteor) and Planetside 2 (Sony Entertainment) is a very good game.
Hawken for smaller scale teamwork play. Planetside 2 for much larger scale battles (massive!).

IMO Planetside2 battles is what BF3 fights is supposed to be.
Try it: https://www.planetside2.com/ , join US-Connery server, choose Vanu :P

How long is this anticipated to be going on? I expect a nice check mid-March to build a new PC. Should I order the card NOW and just sit on it for a month, or wait until I can build my entire PC and order it?

mrtroll 02-13-2013 12:56 PM

Do these have any potential resale value? Might be worth getting in on this deal if you can convert that "in-game currency" in a few real dollars.

Of course they have POTENTIAL resale value. All it takes is one person that wants it. Quick ebay search didn't yield any attempts to sell them, so not sure whether that potential will turn to real resale value, though

hillean 02-13-2013 01:23 PM

I'd be all over it if it were $50 from the Blizzard store

Probably until sales go to shit.

Then they will replace it with real games vs. fake internet money.

for computer parts, almost always better to wait until you actually need it then look for sales. 4-5 weeks out would be right on the edge of "start looking for sales" and "too far away; market may change" in my opinion. so it's up to you...

borito4 02-13-2013 03:59 PM

If anyone doesnt end up wanting their WoT gold, PM me

Slomo4shO 02-13-2013 04:37 PM

Does this really need to be down voted? People complaining about free stuff...

Twistedshade 02-13-2013 04:40 PM

Nvidia must have some really good sales figures if they can offer this crap, while AMD offers some quality games.

icor1031 02-13-2013 11:47 PM

Buy an nvidia card, get $150 in-game currency .. WoT PS2 Hawken

icor1031 02-13-2013 11:53 PM

It's a great deal if you play those games. That's why I put it in the title.

I think you mean "fake games", since you're not getting any physical product with the free game bundles either.

nickus9 02-14-2013 01:41 AM

Galaxy GeForce GTX 670 319.99 A/$40 Rebate

I didnt see this posted yet but its not a horrible deal.

Price $359.99

319.99 AR and you still get $150 value in-game coupon w/ purchase, limited offer (if you play those games)

or here

Considering those games can be had for free it is kind of deceiving about the $150 in free games.

You should read about it before posting. Its $50 in game funds per game.

fvpawli 02-14-2013 08:25 AM

Are these monthly game fee type games? If so I will pass twice. Not a big fan of Galaxy or PNY but to each his own.

flashfir 02-14-2013 08:35 AM

This is potentially VERY hot. Even though 7xxx cards are better at the normal price points...This is a XFX 7970 or a higher end 7950 deal.

dederpes 02-14-2013 08:41 AM

ya i think you should be able to easily sell the $150 in game currency for at least $100...

GTX 670 360 (no tax TD) - $40 MIR - $100-125 if you can sell ingame currency = GTX 670 for 200-225

Yeah BHPhoto has the PNY 670 for $320 and the 680 for $410. The prices are good but that's if you are willing to gamble. If something goes wrong with the card...good luck with customer service. I'll pay 350 for an EVGA card before taking that risk.

fvpawli 02-14-2013 10:59 AM

PNY has had a bad fan performance record (for noise)

kevinh 02-14-2013 11:03 AM

You could argue "digital games" but "fake games" implies that they are not genuine products.

PlanetSide2 is a great game, and is very demanding on GPU's. While the game is free, it pays to use StationCash(real money) to purchase weapons, as it will take you entirely too long to unlock the weapon and attachments. I can say that I have seen SOE put more effort into making this game enjoyable than Dice/EA has put into BF3...

Also, saying that F2P games are not real games is ludicrous. Yes, you don't pay for the game upfront, but you end up with a game that is going to have a longer lifespan/support due to people feeling that they can justify the game over time by making ingame purchases. The F2P model can instill a much longer lifecycle, as well as attract gamers that may not normally play the game if there were an upfront cost.

Wait, last thing you want is to realize you have a card that's DOA and sat there for a month. You want to be able to test the parts that comes in, so you can make returns/exchanges as quickly as you can.

critofur 02-15-2013 03:58 PM

Heinous IGC? Sounds worse than VD :(

In game currency??!?@#!@??? :vomit:

That is about the lamest crap I have ever heard in my life, and I'm over 40 years old.

Any company pulling that sh!t should go out of business or worse, it's BS.

I could rage for 10 pages that upsets me so much!! But I won't intrude on your thread any further.

xveganrox 02-15-2013 04:16 PM

It would be cool if you got to *pick* which game you got the currency for... but $25 in 3 games or $50 in 3 games is pretty lame.

Planetside 2 is awesome, BTW, and I'd recommend that anyone who enjoys multiplayer FPS games (especially fans of Unreal-style shooters) check it out.

borito4 02-17-2013 01:09 AM

Would anyone want to trade their WoT credit for either PS2/Hawken? Im getting a gt 650 for a friend a gt680 for myself... so Ill have 75 for each

cheezr 02-27-2013 08:26 PM

I got my 660ti yesterday from Amazon. I'm hoping I get my code soon. I know the promo page says 7-10 days but I'm hoping it'll be sooner than that.

cheezr 02-28-2013 05:16 PM

I got my codes today. So that's 4 days from shipment.

Terrific deal. The f2p ignorance expressed in this thread is lamentable. Hawken and PS2 are some of the best looking and playing games on the PC.

Zarich 03-02-2013 05:32 PM

I would argue against ftp games, but I spent $30 on Tribes Ascend to buy stuff and don't regret it one bit.

hillean 03-12-2013 07:01 AM

I see a lot of people mention their codes got shipped to them... mine came in the box that was shipped to me with my graphics card and other parts.

Also, I'm willing to trade WoT or Hawken codes for Planetside 2 :)

Keyser_Soze_09 03-13-2013 07:21 AM

If anyone has extra WoT codes they're not using, I'll slide you $15 for them over PayPal if you PM me.

That's $15 for the higher code, not the lower one.

Having pay-to-cheat (like all the Zygna games) in games ruins them. I'd rather have a steaming pile of vomit on my floor to clean up than a trash pay-to-cheat game on my hard drive.

So... If it's "FTP" but you pay to "unlock" the rest of the game that's not so bad. But if you PAY to buy "stuff" in the game that makes you more powerful (pay to cheat), the people that make those games should be given the death penalty and thrown in a trash pile to rot. And I don't even think murderers should face the death penalty (it has been proven to be worse than ineffective in the research I've studied).

Jodiuh 03-14-2013 08:04 AM

I sold 2 of these $150 nonsensical promos for $25 each within hours of listing.

It's not pay to cheat. In Planetside 2, for example, you can spend Certification Points (earned in combat) to unlock new weapons or cosmetic armor/camouflage for your character, OR use StationPoints ($). You can't instantly unlock mods for guns, make yourself amazing, etc. You can also buy boosts that add more xp/hour for a certain time period or earn more Cert Points/hour, but these you can also buy with earnable money.
