I already have enough jackets, but IF I were in the market for one of these, I would actually get BOTH the Cole Haan (work) and Hawke Puffer (casual) jackets, and the topcoat if you need something to wear over a suit.

You could get several of these jackets for the price of one NF jacket.

I was not comparing them. But since you are, I strongly doubt that any of these jackets are even close to the protection and warmth of a triclimate.

If you live in a cold weather area, I would highly recommend a triclimate, that's all. Nothing against these jackets you have posted in particular.

I wondered why the price suddenly dropped while ordering one of these this morning. It only dropped by $7, because they were already on sale.

My TNF Triclimate isn't warm at all. The thin inner fleece just wasn't getting it done, so I ordered a TNF down jacket to replace the inner fleece. To be honest, I was even a little disappointed in the down jacket, because it's not really THAT warm for a down jacket. So while they're nice jackets, and I wear them both a lot, they're not always the warmest jackets out there.

While it depends on the style you want, I'd recommend looking at Eddie Bauer, Land's End or L.L. Bean for a good cold weather jacket. I had an Eddie Bauer system jacket, similar to the Triclimate, and even though it wasn't quite as nice, it was half the price, warmer and I actually liked the looks of it better.

You are correct that the question asked if any of the coats listed could be considered as good deals, but it's perfectly acceptable given the construction of the message to infer that the statement about needing a nice winter coat was not limited to the referenced items. In fact, by questioning if any of the listed items were any good at all, it seems to further open up the desire for outside references beyond the scope of the items for sale by Amazon.

And that is what you call...having too much time on my hands.

That ipod one is pretty cool... I'll see if I qualify for the 20% off and if so, might as well....

Coupon worked... about $25 after that. Even if I only use it a few times out of the year, kinda cool to have a unique jacket.

spectrum8 02-13-2013 02:57 PM

This might be a good deal if they all weren't sold out of normal sizes. Seems like 85% of deals consisting of any article of clothing are sold out of small and medium. How does America sell out of everything but XL/XXL/XXXL? I would think the proverbial mother's basement dweller would be the one buying up clothing slickdeals and getting all the XXXL but apparently not.

The one jacket here that's close to what I need and looks decent also has a terrible, grossly oversized logo on the sleeve.

Good decision. Free Country runs almost 1 or 1.5 size bigger. The good thing is its consistent. I wear Medium as standard and always buy Small FC jackets. And they work out well

That being said, this was the quickest 20% coupon I received and purchased with. Got me a KC hoodie. Thanks OP

Where do you buy clothes in general normally? I'm 6'6" 215 but I look skinny and long as well, with really long arms.

I'm also thin and long. Where I shop, depends on what I'm looking to buy, but I buy a lot from American Eagle and Eddie Bauer. Last year's Eddie Bauer slim shirts fit me great, but after they reworked the fits this year, I'm now having better luck by sizing down and going with relaxed and classic fits. Sizing down often works for me with better brands, as long as the arm length isn't too short.

Land's End is a good place for pants, since they'll hem them to whatever inseam you want. Old Navy is a good place to buy MT pajamas, sweat and lounge pants, which you can also find at Eddie Bauer and Land's End.

I probably have a suggestion for most anything you'd want to buy, because I'm always searching for this information, too.

rms777 02-13-2013 06:06 PM

beware the cheap zippers on a lot of stuff made in (fill in the blank) :shake: there are a few technical brands that make great stuff there and have good quality control but most "designers" don't.

Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody - pricey but worth it. I just got one and love it. Synthetic down, great for those on the go. Put on a warm fleece (or wool sweater) underneath and it's a perfect system. Jacket is very breathable, most down jackets are not. Rolls up small, into a ball. Great for travel, a big reason I'm keeping mine. If you live near Vancouver B.C. the Arc'teryx outlet is close by. Prices 30% off most stuff.

6' and the same weight - 175 lb. The jackets extend down the waist fairly generously unless you have a very long upper body. But if you are thin, definitely get the small size...the medium will be floppy

Yes, thank you. I've been living on the west coast for the last several years and am moving to to the great lakes area, so I'm looking for good deals on a winter coat. The ones I looked through on this deal seemed like they might be a bit thin for my needs, but I wanted to make sure and certainly welcome any recommendations for the best warm winter coats for a reasonable price.
